    - smart client .config file downloading to desktop Hi, I have a windows form which I am launching from a browser link, nothing overly fancy. But my .config file is being downloaded to the desktop of the user who clicks the link to launch the app (I can still get to values in the .config file from within my app which is a good thing). Is there any way to determine where the .config file gets downloaded? Obviously for security reasons the user's desktop is not a good place.     - Newbie: Label display not updating on callback I have very basic WinForm with a few Labels, but I don't understand why their displays are not updating when invoked from a (Indigo)Callback. The Code below executes through each step. But the Controls don't refresh their displays to the corresponding text? - As you can se I tried calls to Refresh and Update against the control and its parent Form. These controls refresh OK when updated as a consequence of Button events in the Form itself. So am I missing something wrt threads and callbacks and controls refresh ?     - SplitPostion during Form Load event I'm trying to save and restore a window position that has a splitter in it. When I close the app, I save the splitter's current SplitPosition, but when I reload that durigd the Form Load event, the splitters overrides what I tell it. Whenever I try to set a splitter's SplitPostion during the form load, is tries to rethink what I meant, enforcing the MinExtra value, even though it doesn't make sense until the Form is displayed. The code all works fine if I put it behind a button, after the form is already on screen. Any thoughts? Is this a bug in the framework, or do I need to do a layout trick? Thanks.     - Converting RTF I have an Access app/db with a memo field that contains RTF (from a rich text control on a form in the app). I have a C#/Windows Forms app that I need to take the RTF text and convert it to "normal" text. If I lose things like bolding, italics, I don't care. I'm really just interested in getting the raw text out of this. Also, there are no images in the RTF. The only reason RTF was used was so users of the Access app could markup the text where emphasis was needed (e.g. bold, italize). I thought I could use a RichTextField control to do this for me. I would pull out the RTF contents from the Access db (via ADO.NET) and set the rtf property on the RichTextField control. Then I would use the text property of the RichTextField to get the raw, clean text. Well when I try to assign the RTF contents from the Access db directly to the rtf property I get an ArgumentException where the message is "Invalid file format". Any ideas what could be causing this?     - Problem with .net framework 1.1 german language pack Hi, I use the 'System.Windows.Forms.KeysConverter.ConvertToString' method to convert keystrokes to german text and display them into a textbox. For a lot of keys it works without any problems e.g. Ctrl (Strg), Shift (Umschalt), Alt (Alt), o PgUp (Bild-Auf), PgDown (Bild-Ab), Ins (Einfg), Del (Entf) and Home (Pos1). But for Left, Right, Up, Down, Clear no translation is done. Does anybody know if this is a bug in the German Language Pack for .net framework 1.1 ? or/and some workaround to solve this problem.     - app to use ftp to download a file I created a windows app written in vb.net that uses a shell command to use ftp to download a file. It works fine. I want to pipe the results of the ftp to a text file to analyze for errors. I can't get that part to work. If I do ftp by hand at a command prompt this works: ftp -i -s:ftpcommands.txt > ftpresults.txt This uses the commands in ftpcommands.txt to download a file and it pipes the results from the ftp to ftpresults.txt. When I try to do the same thing in vb.net code, it doesn't pipe the results to the file. I don't get any errors or anything. There's just no ftpresults.txt file there. I'm doing all this in the same directory that works using the command prompt directly. I tried doing a similar thing in a Windows form application but it didn't work. Here's what I tried: 1.     - MultiLine DataGridTextBox cell problem I have a standard Windows Forms DataGrid and wish to display 300 characters of text in a DataGridTextBox. I have made the data grid table style rows deep enough so that all the text has space to display. I have added the following code to the constructor for the form which contains the data grid:- ((DataGridTextBox)dgActPurpose.TextBox).WordWrap = true; ((DataGridTextBox)dgActPurpose.TextBox).Multiline = true; ((DataGridTextBox)dgActPurpose.TextBox).ScrollBars = ScrollBars.Vertical; but this only has an effect when the cell has focus. I would like to have all the text visible all of the time, not just when the cell has focus. The DataGrid is set with ReadOnly = true.     - Admin framework - advice needed I am looking to build (or utilize) an administration framework, We have many admin (back office) tasks that manipulate data that affects live web sites, Currently we have web forms, windows forms, scripts, etc. I would like to rationalize these into a single high level way of applying administration, My first idea was to use a "snap-in" type approach. For all admin tasks the following "concepts" need to be applied Authentication and Authorization (roles and groups) Auditing All admin forms should be easily accessible, different functions on each form may be restricted to certain users / roles / groups I have had a quick look at using MMC but I can't seem to find out what type of security model this offers.     - Need Help This is the description of my problems. I used three ways to develop irregular-shaped WinForms : 1. Firstly I set the form's FormBorderStyle property to None. I set the form's BackColor property to Color.Black and the Transparent key property to the same color, then I drew the form's background using Graphics.DrawImage Method. 2. Like Method 1, I first set the form's FormBorderStyle property to None, then I changed the form's Region property. I built the region by building a GraphicsPath Object from a background Bitmap I used in the application and stored it in my assembly to use it in the future. 3. I used a different way to draw the window. I drew the background image by using Win32 Function UpdateLayeredWindow and set the form's style to LayeredWindow. I got different results on them but none of them satisfied our requirements. a. By using the first method, I could draw the form fast but there was black margin around the shape and when I change the background Bitmap in runtime the screen would flicker even though I had used DoubleBuffer. b. For the second method, the flickering shrinks a lot, but the process of dragging the window cost a lot of system resources and there was still a black margin around the Bitmap object. c. The last method maybe the best of all, and the margin disappeared , the problem of resource consumption did not exist, the window didn't flicker any more. But there was a big problem on it : the controls on the form just "disappeared" but still could be used when I click the controls' region(or area), the system just ignored the images of the controls. The last solution seems fit us well and I want to know if there is some way to eliminate the problem of the last solution and make my controls visible.     - TabControl and Form. Dispose() - Strange Behaviour Dear Group I wonder if you can help me with the following. I have a form (Form2) that contains a tabcontrol. If I click 'Tab2' Form3 should be displayed and 'Form2' closed. The instruction to close Form2 is in the Load event of Form3 but it actually doesn't matter where I put it. Every time I get this error: An unhandled exception of type 'System.ObjectDisposedException' occurred in system.windows.forms.dll Additional information: Cannot access a disposed object named "TabControl". Interestingly, If I have a button on Form3 to close the Form, Form2 closes just fine. However I want to close Form2 when Form3 has loaded. Also, if I place a button on Form to to open Form3 and don't use the SelectedIndexCHanged TabControlEvent, I also don't get this error. It's almost as it's looking for the TabControl when the error comes up. clsForms is just to keep track of my forms instances. Any ideas. Please let me know.     - report solution suggestion Hi It's a windows application and internet connection is not always available for users. The data is saved locally. I am thinking about using XML file because there is not much data involved. For report, we can use Crystal Report. For .net it should be 10.0 version and above, right? Other solution can be ActiveX report. The downside is it's not managed code. I have thought of use XSLT and XML to create html file and load report in browser. However I am not sure if there is any hidden problems for example, the format of the report is not rendered exactly for each user because he may set the font size differently. Is it a concern?     - CRYSTAL REPORTS VIEWER - URL REMOTING HELLO THERE. I have a problem with a crystal report. I hope you can help me out. I have a windows forms application that is running on a server and is invoked from client computers by using url remoting (the application assembly has been given execution permissions by using the Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Configuration tool). The application gets data from a database by mids of a web service. When it comes to generate a crystal report, if the application is launched locally (on the server machine) the crystal reports are loaded correctly, but if the application is launched from a client computer by the url (e.g. "http://192.168.10.11/MyApp.exe"), then one of the crystal reports(not all of them) shows a pop up dialog box to enter database login information such as "user name", "password", "server name" and "database name". I was debugging it, and it comes out that there is no connectivity with the crystal report object that feeds the crystal report viewer. This problem ONLY comes out when the application is launched remotely. I hope you can help me out pals. I think the problem is due to the report viewer..this object seems to love working locally... What I would like to be able to do is drag a folder from Windows explorer on to a form and just capture the full path and folder name. Seems like when using the view sometimes the "small icon" display the formatting gets all screwed up...I mean when items are draw across the rows, they overlap one another.     - Permission Exception for Strong Name membership but not Zone I have a WinForm control hosted in IE. I've set up a JavaScript event handler to close the window if a button in the control is clicked. I have a permission set which grants my assembly execute permission for unmanaged assemblies and I have created a Machine Code Group which uses the permissions. The problem is that if I set the membership condition on the code group to Strong Name I get a PermissionException when executing the JavaScript event handler, but if I set the permission to Zone and then set the Zone to Local Intranet the code executes and does not throw the exception.     - Date comparison in rowfilters for dataviews feeding datagrids I have a datagrid attached to a dataview attached to an SQL Server table that uses datetime columns among other types. The user gets to filter on various things in the table including the datetime columns. I'd like to be able to use the rowfilter capability of the dataview. However, I've run into t he well documented problem of the fact that datetime columns include a time and therefore can't exactly match a date. As near as I can tell there is no provision for a calling functions in rowfilters. Is that correct???? Thus as near as can tell, if you want to exactly match column dat for date 1/1/2005 regardless of the time you have to write dat>= '1/1/2005' and dat<'1/2/2005'. Is this correct????     - Instanciate reflected form without constructor... I need to scan a directory full of .net assemblies and list all Form subclasses found in a grid. This part is easy using reflection. I then need to allow the user to double click and modally display the form. Obviously I wouldn't expect anything to actually work; I just want it to be visible. Just like what Visual Studio does when you design a form. Unfortunately I cannot guarantee that the forms have default parameter-less constructors and even if they did, I cannot guarantee that those constructors could be successfully invoked (could have some static dependencies, etc). So I can't simply instantiate them. Since the forms have been built using Visual Studio, they should all have an InitializeComponent method. What I really need to do is only invoke this. Is there an easy way to do this? If it was possible to create an AssemblyBuilder from an already compiled Assembly, then I could just add the parameter-less constructor (or remove the IL from an existing one) and disassociate all the event handlers. I'm thinking that I need to create a new in-memory form subclass and dynamically transfer the InitializeComponent IL from one to the other. How hard would this be?     - Hide Contextmenu in treeview I have a treeview with which I want to use a context menu for certain nodes to fill a memo property of the node. So when I add the nodes I set a property 'ItemNode' to either true or false. If the ItemNode is true I want the contextmenu to pop-up if not I want to prevent it from popping up.     - Custom Radio Button with Transparent Background Hi All, I have created a control that inherits from RadioButton and I have overridden it's OnPaint method. It looks great, draws the background with every color except with Color.Transparent. When I make the controls Background color transparent, it draws it black! Is there anyway to fix this?     - Help with multiple forms functionality We have a unique situation where we need to speed up the activation of our MAIN form. We have put a splash page before the main shows up and we pre-load most of our stuff (user profiles). Then we bring up the MAIN form, but we need to continue loading our other stuff (data sets, list). We want to do while inside the SPLASH, but minimize it and let the MAIN form come up as fast and quickly as possible. At this point, we'll HIDE the SPLASH page and just continue loading items in it.     - tabPage need the correct event I have an app with a tab control and on the second page of the tab control is a dataGridView control. I cannot find the correct even to sucessfully hide columns in this DGV. I've already tried the form load and activate events, and the tabPage Enter event but none are working. Strangely enough if I use the tabPage enter event, then enter the tab....then leave the tab....then enter it again, the columns are hidden.     - Copying Directories System.IO.Directory class Is there a way to copy directory contents using the System.IO.Directory class? I want to make a full copy of one folder (files and subfolders) to another folder. I'm able to move the folder using Directory.Move but that removes the files from the source folder.     - Help wanted for RichTextBox I noticed two problems with .NET System.Windows.Forms.RichTextBox object: 1. While firing ContextMenu.Popup event from a RichTextBox object, the ContextMenu.SourceControl is always null. 2. If I want to set a menuItem Enabled or not (e.g.: Cut, Copy, Reverse, etc.) according to whether there is selected text in a RichTextBox object (I test SelectionLength > 0 or Selected{Text||Rtf}.Length > 0 during Application.Idle event and then update the command and menuItem state), I get a problem with DBCS input: the Chinese IME doesn't work anymore, the Korean IME works letter by letter instead of composing hangul characters, and the Japanese IME works randomly. As soon as I take off the test of those Selection related properties, I can do DBCS input perfectly within RichTextBox objects. i've vb application and i migrated it to vb.net application and it is
working

fine when i run this in windows 2000 professional where am having

dotnetframwork 1.1 and visual studio 2003.
but when i run the same application in XP home edition which is having only

framwork 1.1 i am getting the following error.

Application Has generated an exception that could not be handled.

click ok to terminate the application
click cancel to dubug he application

in my bin directory there are several dlls.

Can anybody tell me why am geting this error. how to solve this problem.
its very very very urgent please help me out.
