    - Responding to clicks from a WebBrowser control in a Form Any way I can write a Windows Form that generates some HTML (to view in a WebBrowser control) that responds to mouse clicks?     - Enter and Leave events I am trying to understand Enter and Leave events for a user control. I am using Visual Studio 2005, using VB, for a Windows Forms application. I am showing and hiding (by changing visible property) user controls on my main form (within a panel) based on NavBar links being clicked on. I put code in the Enter and Leave events to simply show a message. Here's what happens... The first time the contol is shown, the Enter event fires. The first time I click on another NavBarItem, the Leave event fires. However, the control associated with the clicked on NavBarItem doesn't show. After that, the Enter and Leave events no longer fire when control's visibility is changed. So, I guess it's not the change in visibility that fires these events. Then what does cause them to fire? What if I want to check for certain conditions being met before I allow a user control to be hidden (Visible=False) and, if they're not met, I disallow the change (i.e. keep it visible and don't show the new user control)?     - Data Source drag/drop not allowed on inherited form In VS 2005 I have a base form that is designed to be inherited by many other forms within an application. This base form contains a tab control with two tab pages, among several other controls. The second tab page (lets call it TabPage2) has the Modifiers property set to Protected so that any inherited forms can add controls to the tab. When I create an inherited form, I can drag new controls from the toolbar to TabPage2 without a problem. However, what I would really like to do is drag a table (or selected fields) from the Data Sources pane so that the data bound form fields are created automatically. That would be a wonderful convenience. The only problem is, when I try to drag a field over TabPage2, I get the "not allowed" cursor symbol and the drop operation does nothing. As another point of interest, this base form was brought over from a VS 2003 project that is being converted and upgraded using VS 2005. I'm not sure if the version change is affecting the outcome or not. The base form and its related code are a little complex. In an effort to isolate the problem, I started a new project and created a very simple form with the same tab control design. When I inherited this simple base form and tried to drag from the Data Source window, it worked perfectly. Very mysterious. Something in the old base form is preventing the drag and drop operation from working (although not for regular toolbar controls). Any ideas on how to isolate or debug this?     - WinForm Single Instance App errors out with AccessViolationException I have a couple of windows form applications that I am wanting to integrate and have been playing around with the Single Instance Application setting. I have tried this with my own app and the sample SingleInstance05 that I got from MSDN. I can run it, but if I go to a cmd console and go to the bin directory and try and run the app again to trigger the SingleInstance functionality, I get a System.AccessViolationException of {"Attempted to read or write protected memory.     - Scroll bars and docking Hi all, I've managed to simplify my problem down to its bare roots. I have a Form that contains three panels. All three panels have their docking set to Top. Inside these panels I have a single UserControl. The UserControl's right side exceeds the width of the Form, but the bottom scroll bar does not appear. However, I can increase the size of the Form and I can see the remainder of the UserControl. I know how to bind data to display on the controls, but Can I also bind the 'enable' or 'visible' properties according to some fields' values, such as when 'OrderStatus' field is closed ('C' value) will set all input controls' enable to false.     - Form initial display issue I have a form display issue that surely others have encountered and have resolved. I couldn't find any posts about it, which I attribute to my inability to describe it well. I have an MDI application that opens every MDI child form maximized. These child forms generally contain a DataGridView control with the associated Binding Navigator at the top of the form. The navigator is anchored Top,Left, and the DataGridView is anchored to all sides. When the form opens, the DataGridView does not fill the entire form, rather there is a line about 1/2 inch from the bottom of the application window. If I resize the application window at all, the deformity goes away and my form looks as it should. How can I get my form to appear as it should when first displayed (with the DataGridView filling up the whole form except for the Binding Navigator)?     - Really annoying Invalid Resx file when building app Hi, I am getting a really annoying Invalid Resx file when building the app. This is happening in a class library DLL form that references a DataSet in the same assembly. If I exclude the form from the project, build the project, include the form, open it up in the designer, then it will work again. Any ideas why this is happening? Here is the exact error. TIA.     - Rendering super/subscript text I was wondering if anyone has come across the problem of needing to render text as partial subscripts and super scripts. Meaning that I have a control with text displayed and I want parts of the text to be superscript. Think chemical formulas or mathematical equations. I was going to look at using some kind of markup to tell the renderer to use the script version of the font. I was just wanted to see what other folks have done before I go about inventing a wheel.     - MouseMove & BorderStyle I just encountered a strange behavior of a custom control compiled with .NET 1.0 and used from .NET 2.0: If the newly inherited property BorderStyle is set to Fixed3D, the coordinates returned by MouseMove have an offset of 2 pixels (the border thickness), i.e. (2,2) is returned for the upper left pixel of the client area. I think the coordinates should be relative to the client area. Indeed, a test control created with .NET 2.0 returned (0,0) for the upper left pixel of the client area when using Fixed3D.     - Double Buffer panel within SplitContainer to avoid TreeView flicke I have a treeview derived control placed within Panel2 of a SplitContainer control on a form. The TreeView flickers during updates so I set the DoubleBuffered attribute to true (in the constructor of my class derived from TreeView). It still flickers so I was thinking that it could be that DoubleBuffered also needs to be set within the parent panel that contains this TreeView derived control. However, in this case, the parent is a panel that belongs to a SplitContainer. Of course, I can't directly set the DoubleBuffered property of Panel2 and I was wondering if there is some other way to do this or if I'm on the wrong track altogether. Also, I'm using C++/CLI and the tree view nodes are user-drawn, does this for any reason automatically rule out the use of double buffering on the related tree view?     - Need help with ContextMenuStrip in a DataGridView I want to offer the possibility for the user to right click a row in a DataGridView (Where the selection mode is set to entire row) and make a ContexMenuStrip object appear. This works well setting the ContextmenuStrip on the DataGridView (to avoid the weight of setting one for every row) but I'd like also for the underlying row to become selected. I tried to control the mouse events but that led nowhere. Anybody did this before or is it even possible ?     - Question about fetching a GIF image from assembly I use reflection to get a GIF image that contains a transparency mask (the white background should be transparent) that is part of my C# project build. The problem is that the image's transparency property disappears when I render it making it look as if were a JPEG image. The code I use is: Assembly assem = this.GetType().Assembly; Stream streamTransPic = assem.GetManifestResourceStream("MyProject.images.transPic.gif"); transPic = System.Drawing.Image.FromStream(streamTransPic); It is rendered with Graphics.DrawImage method in gObj.DrawImage (transPic, rect); where gObj is an instance of Graphics and rect has already been defined. If I read the image from a file rather than storing it in the compiled assembly, its GIF transparency property is present when I render it. I would like to create a small app with a "explorer" like panel which can contain icons for a number of items in my own collection class.     - access the calling user's config info from a dll? Hi, I am using C#. My WinForm project has a config file created by VS2005 containing some user scoped properties. It has setup as the config file as follows: <userSettings> <MyNameSpace.Properties.Settings> <setting name="MyProperty" serializeAs="String"> <value>"aaa"</value> </setting> </MyNameSpace.Properties.Settings> </userSettings> I can easily access the property value in a type-safe manner in my WinForm via: Properties.Settings settings = MyNameSpace.Properties.Settings.Default; MessageBox.Show(settings.MyProperty); My WinForm uses some BO's from a dll. How can I access the config properties from within the dll? The class which contains the property specification is marked internal to the WinForm exe. I have read the helptext regarding ApplicationSettingBase and ConfigurationManager classes. These are both new with .Net 2.0, so they most be both current technologies. Neither sections of helptext refer to the other. I can't understand what job each of them are trying to do, or how they relate to each other.     - crystal reports Why would using crystal reports run fine from one pc but not anpther? I disabled filewalls, had admin rights, selected the install prerequsits. I get a log in screen that won't accept any login. Logged in as the same user from another pc, it works fine. It seems on the pc that worked a warning run app screen came up that didn't come up on the one that failed. This makes me think something is stopping the crystal reports viewer form installing correctly?? the viewer does come up though, but it cant connect to the database.     - Moving childs within a MDI parent area Hi, I am developing an application using VB.net (2005) and I would like to know if there is a way for allowing MDI childs just to move within the borders of the MDI parent. Now the MDI childs are able to dissapear for a part out of the screen, and then scrollbars appear. I would like to prevent that. I've tested a little with the Move event, by changing back the MDI childs position at a certain position, but this results in a nasty flickering effect. Hello all, After programming in C# and VB.NET for 4 years, it finally dawned upon me that something Very Fishy is going on when you create a second form. Why does it stay in memory when the form-variable goes out of scope? In FormMain I have a cmdOpenFormTest with this event handler: cmdOpenFormTest_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { FormTest frm = new FormTest(); frm.Show(); //for this test we do NOT do frm.Close() or frm.Dispose() //you may leave next line out, doesn't make a difference frm = null; } FormTest is a form with nothing on it, not even a button. I could even have done, with the same effect: Form frm = new Form(); A second button on FormMain allows me to do GC.Collect(); GC.WaitForPendingFinalizers(); GC.Collect(); Now the questions: * why does FormTest stay visible when its variable has gone out of scope a long time ago? Even after GC.Collect()? * Why doesn't the garbage collector kick in? * Why doesn't base.Finalize() run, that is, the base-base-base class's destructor? * Why don't we see .Dispose(false) running? ---------- There is a lot of interesting talk in the newsgroups about what's going on after frm.Close() and frm.Dispose(). frm.Close does a this.SendMessage(WM_CLOSE), just like in a Charles Petzold C Windows program. This comes back to the form in the WMClose() handler. Here, if I'm not mistaken (can look it up in Reflector), after some work .Dispose() is called, leading to Dispose(true), leading to the cleanup of all the unmanaged resources, underlying windows & window handles, and the like. There is also interesting talk about mem leakes related to a static hashtable with MenuItem's and references that don't go away. But in my case I do NOT call Close() or Dispose(). Who is keeping a root reference to FormTest? In the old days, using Access 95 and 97, the behaviour was as expected: if you created a second form with a local form-variable, the newly created form would immediately disappear after the local var went out of scope. I tried to figure things out with the CLR Memory Profiler from the msdn website, but I saw a lot of colourful lines and no clear call stack. Any ideas?!?!?!?!?     - SHDocVw in Separate Process I am using the SHDocVw.InternetExplorerClass in a windows console application. I assign this as my Webbrowser1 and call methods and properties from this (like Webbrowser1.Visible) and it works fine for what we need so far. However, when we start another instance of the application on the same machine, the 2nd Internet Explorer instance runs in the same process in task manager although the application grabs it's own PID with each instance. We are using Windows XP Pro (SP2). Is there a way to use the SHDocVw.InternetExplorerClass and run IE in it's own separate process with each instance of the application? Help appreciated.     - load an .exe (windows) programmatically I'm trying to write a windows Forms VB application which takes other windows applications (i.e. .exe file) as input. It then loads the .exe programmatically and looks for the Windows Forms in the .exe.     - Question about MDI child form... I have an MDI main form that shows a child. WHen the child is shown it maximizes to fit in the space available in the main form. FOr some reason when I set the window property of my child to maximize when the app runs it shows the controlbox buttons (minimize,maximize). I have disabled all the properties that would allow this to happen yet it still occurs. If i set it to run as a normal window it does what it is suppose to but that is not what I want, I want it to be maximized, is there any explanation for this?     - ProcessCmdKey up to parent form Hello, I have an MDI application which manages smaller tool windows (implemented as separate, modeless Forms), sort of like Adobe Photoshop. The menu items in the main app form can be activated using shortcuts. When I do something in one of the tool windows, keyboard focus changes to the tool window. Is there a way I can have the shortcuts for the menu items in the main app work when keyboard focus is in the tool window? I was hoping there would be a solution like overriding ProcessCmdKey, and calling the tool window's ParentForm.ProcessCmdKey(), but obviously I can't.     - Limit to range of colors displayed by Label control? Hi, I was just curious to know if there was a limit to the range of colors a label control can display. For instance if I set a label control's ForeColor to 28, 23, 15 it renders black (on my system, at least - but I'm running an nVIDIA GeForce 440 MX 64MB card running in 32-bit color, which should be plenty able to render that properly). After I have added the DataTable to the DataSet and, set a DataGrid to refer to the DataSet and display the DataTable I setup, can I still change stuff then? If I do, what is the proper way to update things? Should I call DataGrid::Update()?     - Windows Service and Threading What is the proper way to terminate a Thread in a Windows Service? I have a windows service which starts up three threads which run in a while loop as long as a boolean flag is set to true. These threads each sleep for X ammount of time then start processing again. Since this is a service it's basically running in an infinite loop. When the user goes to stop the service, I have been calling the Thread.Abort() method, which throws a ThreadAbortedException. I've also tried using the Thread.Interupt() method to wake any sleeping threads, but that too throws a ThreadInteruptedException. What is the proper way to kill these threads in the 30 second timeframe that the windows service framework gives a service to respond back? If catching these Exceptions are the correct way to stop the service, what is the correct way to know if the service actually dies on it's own for some reaon (i.e. god forbid locking)?     - TLB using problem I created very simple Class Library in VB 2005 (let's call it COMInterop). I set Register For COM Interop property to true to make it accessible by VB6 program. After I compiled it, I got COMInterop.dll and COMInterop.tlb files, I have no problem with using both of them on the machine where the project was compiled - TLB with VB6 clients and DLL with VB 2005 clients. I copied the tlb and dll files onto another machine and registered TLB file with regtlib.exe. I've got a message about successful registration. I created a new VB 2005 Windows Form project, added the reference to COMInterop.dll and it works fine. I created VB6 project, added a reference to this TLB. I'm trying to use it with the simple code which works with VB 2005, but produces an error in VB6: Run time error '429': ActiveX component can't create object The code in client: Private obj As COMInteropTest.COMInterop Private Sub Command1_Click() Set obj = New COMInteropTest.COMInterop 'The error occurs on this line MsgBox obj.myFunction End Sub What am I missing?     - Interacting with modal and modeless forms Hi all I am writing a piece of control software that monitors data from a data source and controls the data source peripherals. I am using a Modeless Form to monitor the data and to change the data source parameters in real time. I am using Modal Forms to control the peripherals, because these are popped up, used and closed again when required. My problem, is that whenever I open one of the Modal Forms, the Modeless Form no longer responds to input. I could do this in C++ / MFC by giving the Modeless Form a NULL owner, but it seems as though in DotNet a NULL owner impies the Main Application Form.     - Cached Configuration Data Hello, I have stored some new values in the .config file of my app. They were stored using a configuration object. If i read the value from the config object i can get the lastest values. But if i read the items using ConfigurationManager, i get old 1.1 behaviour, in that values appear to be cached. Hi ,
Im making a localizable GUI with windows forms using the designer of visual
studio 2005 and im having some troubles.
I configure the colors and disposition of the elements for the GUI in the
default language option and then later in the spanish language ang english
language.
But sometimes when im for example in the english or spanish language and
come back to the default language option the colors and some properties of
some of my elements have gone!!!!!!!! Why visual studio changes me
automatically the configuration i have put? And i cant bother on putting one
time after another the same configuration because vs have changed it!
Someone can tell me please how can i solve this problem?
