    - datagrid edit not saved on exit I have a bound datagrid on a form, with a close button. All the close button does is call me.close. If I edit a cell, then click my close button, the edit can be seen in the grid, as expected, when I enter my form_closing event code. However if I edit a cell then click the "X" in the top right corner of the form, the form_closing event fires, but the grid shows the "old" value of the cell, thus the change to the cell is not saved. I am working around this currently by preventing the user form using the "X" to close the form, but there must be a better way ?     - ActiveX ruins Validation events. Hi. I am using an ActiveX control in a .NET application which I put on a form. I have another .NET control on that form that handles the Validating event. The method that handles the Validating event, shows a message box and sets e.Cancel = True. When I click any other control in the form, the message box shows and the focus returns to the control that handled the Validating event. The problem happens when I click on the ActiveX control. The ActiveX control gets the focus and the focus doesn't return to the validated control and no message box is displayed. With a different ActiveX control the message was displayed, but the focus didn't return to the validated control. I reproduced the bug in a small application. In that application I wrote an ActiveX in VB 6 that has an edit box. In a c# .NET application I put on a form the ActiveX and 2 text boxes. One text box is validated and is called textBoxValidated and the other one is not vaildated and is called textBoxRegular (the regular text box is used to demonstrate regular validating behaviour) .     - problem in context menu Hi, I'm using a context menu on a treeview control in VS 2003. The problem happens when displying the context menu for the first time, the tree node for which to display the context menu needs to be right clicked twice (not a double click but two distinct right clicks). After the first time a single right click is enough for any tree node. Any ideas how to fix it? Another problem, when right clicking a tree node that is not in focus the context menu won't open. It first must be in focus by left clicking it. How can I force it to open? (like the behavior of windows explorer).     - Create custom cursors in vs2005 Hello, I've tried to find something on this in the newsgroups but came up with nada: I'm trying to create a custom cursor in VS2005. I have a .cur file that I have put in my "Resources" folder. The resource manager does not recognize the .cur extension and puts it under the generic "Files" category (vs. "Images", "Icons", "Strings", etc.) When I try to refer to the cursor, like: Properties.Resources.arrowTrans, apparently it comes out to a byte[]. How can I convert this into a Cursor object? I used to have code in 2003 that used the GetManifestResourceStream method, but that doesn't work. And how does the "BaseApplicationManifest" option work in the "Build Action" item (vs. "None", "Embedded Resource", "Compile", and "Content") in the file Properties window?     - URGENT: VS2005 Text Rendering Issue First up, sorry for cross-posting. I have what is (to me, at least, an urgent issue) with the look/feel of my applications. I have been using VC# EE Beta2 until about a week ago and I have just bought VS2005 Professional RTM. All programs I've written in VC# EE now do not render text correctly. The labels and controls render much the same way as they do with .NET1.X, ugly and about 1.5 spaced. New projects look fine, like a native Windows program and don't suffer the rendering issue.     - Application window gets smaller than MinimumSize Hello, I am writing an application in Visual Studio .NET, C#. Application is set to maximize after start. I set in Form properties MinimumSize to 800; 600. Everything is OK - I can't resize application window to be smaller than 800 x 600. But, when I set screen resolution to 800 x 600, set task bar to be always visible (and also has height of a few heights of standard task bar height - that working area of the desktop is maybe 800 x 500), application window is smaller than 800 x 600 (which was set as minimum). Application window fit working area of screen (screen size minus area of always visible task bar) which is smaller than minimum size set in Form properties. When I click on Maximize Box, application window gets bigger and fits all the screen size (some area of my application's window is then under task bar) -- it is what I want. I tried to manually set form Height to 600 on Resize event, but it did not help. How to cause that application window is always not smaller than 800 x 600 ? When the widget is used, it displays the list of files in a mangled format. The format appears to be the first character of the filename followed by the creation date of the file: So for a file named "survey.srv" it would show up as: "s11/12/17". This works fine on the Dell Axim 50, which does not use Mobile 5.0. Are there any known issues with this? Should I be using something else for the Dell Axim 51? But when I click web page Install button the web server just returns the content of the .application file as XML to the browser on my own client.     - Toolstripmenu and -items don't use menu system color setting I've got a customer who has set his menu text to white on black. When using a new VS2005 toolstripmenu (tsm) we run into all sorts of problems, because the tsm doesn't automatically use the menu system backcolor. The menu's all have white text on light grey backgrounds and are totally unreadable. Is this a bug? Seems like it, since they *do* take over the menu text system color as forecolor. I've tried using a small routine to walk over all toolstripmenuitems (and since they're not members of the forms controls that's tedious as well) and set their backcolors, and it works, but now the highlight color and the checkmarks remain stubbornly purple. It looks awful and annoyingly there are no properties available to set those. This way the entire toolstripmenu becomes utterly useless. Has anybody got a clue how to fix this?     - TabPage Alignment property change at runtime problems/bug Hi! When TabPage.Alignment property is changed at runtime tabs are not displayed correctly i.e. text is not displayed and visual style changes to something not seen with any of the available styles. It has been reported many times by different users. After googling for some time (can I use this word on MS forums?) I found short explanation for a reason. Setting Alignment property causes control to be destroyed and recreated with new handle and setting it with container causes the whole mess.     - Question about IComponentChangeService - OnComponentAdded() I am trying to create a service that will hook to the events fired by the IComponentChangeService. I will use this new service to automatically position controls based on their size and location, the controls have to stay for example within an area of 300, 300. So if anyone created a control outside this area the control will automatically be moved to the new location within the 300, 300 area. When you listen to the event ComponentChanged of the IComponentChangeService you get the components name, the property that changed, the new and the old value of the property. Thus when a user changes the location of a component or the size and its bounds are outside the 300, 300 area I can successfully roll back to the old property value. But now for new components you can hook to the ComponentAdded event but there is one big problem. When this event is fired the component does NOT have the location property set yet. Therefore I am wondering where or when is the Location property actually set? And why doesn't the ComponentChanged event get fired when the location property is set afterwards because that would have also fixed my problem.     - Handling the Windows "No Disk" MessageBox I have a Windows application that reads images from a CD or DVD. If the media is removed from the drive and the user selected an image to in the DataGrid, then Windows will display a MessageBox informing the user that no media exists. This MessageBox also prompts the user to Cancel, Retry, or Continue. I don't know anything about this MessageBox except that my application crashes a horrible death if the user selects Cancel or Continue. I would like to be able to handle a Cancel selection if possible. Does anyone know what this MessageBox is that Windows (XP) displays automatically? If so, do you know how to read the DialogResult from it? The crash comes when my application proceeds with trying a call that will absolutely NOT work without the media.     - Transparent label flicker when drawn on form I am having troubles with forms that have a large number of labels with transparent backgrounds causing a good deal of flicker while originally drawing the form. I have created a new label class which inherits from Label and has UserPaint and DoubleBuffer set in the control styles, and this makes no difference. In 2.0, I set double buffering on the form and this also made no difference. Anyone have any suggestions on how to deal with this? A form with 100 transparent background labels should not flicker the way it does on my PC (Athlon 64 3500, 512MB) - you can see each label being drawn individually.     - RadioCheck Menu options Hi, I have an application (written in c#) where I am using a context menu for some custom objects on the screen. The context menu has a sub-menu which consists of 4 options, on which I have set the RadioCheck option to true, as I want these items to function as a group of radio buttons.     - MSVS Forms Design View Problems Hi I am getting some unusual problems with Visual Studio design view and I assume that as an inexperienced user I am doing something wrong: 1) tabPage control page order randomises after edit -- no matter how hard I try to get the page order I want it keeps jumping back to a random order. This seems to occur only after a reasonable number of pages and added controls on each page but I have done quite complex tabPages without any problems also. 2) intermittent deletion of custom user controls from the main form after edit (usually graphical edit in the surrounding area of the user control -- even simple things like nudging adjacent standard controls for better alignment can have this effect). The worst part is Designer does this without warning and sometimes the code will build but throw an exception on run. 3) Design view lock up - on certain windows forms apps Ive attempted the design view locks for up to 60 seconds on opening the solution in VS with the form in design view or after edit + change to selected viewed document. I would be grateful of any suggestion for any of the above -- Im pretty sure Im not editing any Designer generated areas of Form1.h, however there may be other stupid little things that Im doing wrong.
