    - datetime picker problems Hello we have encountered the following problems with the date time picker control A : datetime picker control gives focus to last entered field when moving back and forward with focus how do we reset this to the first field ? B : datetime picker in DD-MM-YYYY default format ( europe , NL-NL localization ) refuses an entry of 31 on the DD filed cause the month is already chosen to the current mont ( (02) februari wich only has 28 days ) steps to reproduce these problems A : can be reproduced on any system Throw a datetime picker control , and a textbox on a form ,set the Datetime picker format to short , start the project , now enter a date , move the focus to the textbox with the tab key , move the focus back with the tabkey , you will notice that the when the focus is given back to the datetime picker control it will select ( highlight ) the last entry box instead of the first that we expected B : can only be reproduced on a system with DD-MM-YYYY settings , when the form is started the Datetime picker will start with the current month ( 2 ) however if i want to enter 31-12-2006 i need to change the month part first Why is the above a problem ? Well we are currently building a production system , and for data entry this behavior is verry unwanted as it will take extra steps for the operator to enter valid data in the system .     - Do we have a better approach? Hi, friends, I am using .net 2005 to develop a window form application. It has about 15 buttons (with icon on them) which need to be visible/invisible dynamically based on user's selection and rights. I know I can create 15 buttons and handle them individually, including moving their positions around if its neighbor buttons are invisible. But, do we have a better appoach to do this?     - Remove last row in a unbound datagridview Hi All, I have a undound DataGridView. That is, I am populating the DataGridView using the DataGridView.Rows.Add() call and by setting the values to individual cells in the row. When I am adding data to the DataGridView using such a method, I am getting an unwanted row at the bottom of the DataGridView. I want to avoid this row. Any help with respect to this is highly appreciated. I am not planning to use databinding for the DataGridView. Since, the DataGridView has 7 columns. I should be able to sort the DataGridView using any of these seven columns. If I use the databinding, it will be difficult to sort the view. Hence, using the Default sort of the DataGridView helps me in this case. But the presence of last row in the DataGridView should not be supported.     - How to improve performance for stock exchange data display received from third party com component Hi, I could not get the answer on the Performance community hence forwarding the same issue here... I am using a third party COM component to get very very fast data stream. I have dragged the com component on a windows form. Now we can request the data for specific symbols on this com component and in turn it will start pouring in data in form of continuous events for the requested symbols. The problem is that data stream is too fast and can easily make the CPU go to 100%. The tricks which I am thinking to tackle the issue are ... 1) Instantiate the com component form on the new thread and put the data in alternate generic dictionaries (We have 2 side by side dictionaries. One dictionary start filling with data then other dictionary is being accessed by the consumer module) . So a dedicated thread of consumer class with poll in the alternated dictionary after a certain time interval, set the flag on 1 dictionary and start copying the data from alternated dictionary to another datastructure BindableDictionary(It is a wrapper arround 2 data structures - 1 BindingList<> and 1 Dictionary<>. As the name suggest, as soon as the consumer module copies data in BindableDictionary, it start displaying it on UI.) [STAThread] private void InstantiateCOMComponent(object state) { _comManager = comComponentForm.GetInstance(); Application.Run(new comComponentForm()); _comManager.Visible = false; } but as soon as we try to instantiate the COM component on the new thread, it gives the error - Message "ActiveX control '7b0deade-e17b-11d2-93e6-00a0c91827c9' cannot be instantiated because the current thread is not in a single-threaded apartment." 2) Because of the com component error, Another alternative could be to apply the com component on a windows form in a new exe and make it a server.     - Binging custom objects to the DataGridViewComboBoxColumn Hi, I have bound a collection of type IBindingList to a DataGridView. Each object in the collection contains various string properties, Customer Name, Contact Name etc. It also contains a property 'MyOrder' of custom type 'Order'.     - FindRows() doesn't find last entered row in a DataGridView... Hi: I'm using FindRows() to locate rows in a DataGridView. When adding new rows consecutively, the last row added is not found when calling FindRows(). It's not until you shift focus away from newly added row by selecting other rows will it find it. I see no reason for leaving it as a web based application and many good reasons for making it a windows forms based application. I know that by using an XBapp (XAML Browser Hosted Application) you can create a wizard like application that goes from one page to the next. I want to be able to use some of the functionality that will not be allowed however if I go that route, i.e. saving to the local file system.     - IDE BindingSource error message I used the Data Sources window to drop a custom object onto the designer surface. It created a BindingSource and BindingNavigator as a result. When I open the Properties window on the BindingSource, I see DataSource property set to the object I created. However, when I try to dropdown the DataSource property, I get the message: "Object reference not set to an instance of an object". The title of the messagebox is "Microsoft Visual Studio". So I cannot change the DataSource! I went into the designer file and removed the DataSource property of the BindingSource and went back into the designer. It showed the DataSource as (none) as I expected. But the same error message occurs when I try to change the property with the dropdown box. What is going on?     - Tooltip on Combobox disappears - Windows Forms bug? I am using .NET 2.0 forms and running on Windows XP SP2. When I have a tooltip on a combo box, and the combo box is expanded (?dropped down?) using the arrow, then collapsed, it will no longer display it?s tooltip, no matter how long I hover. Even if I move off the control and back it will still not display its tooltip. If I then go to another control that has tootips, then back to the combobox, it will again display its tooltip, until the next time it is expanded. Below is a small sample that has this bug (on my machine anyway.) It is simply the standard VS8.0 generated code, condensed. Strangely, if I remove the EnableVisualStyles() line, then the tootips seem to work correctly. I could not find any information about this bug. I am curious if anyone else has come across it, and if there is a solution?     - Prompt to save changes I have a winforms app with a tabbed interface. I would like to prompt users to save their changes when they switch from tab to tab and don't click the Save button. I have tried using the Tab Validated event to prompt them, but it fires when they click Save, and when they don't. It also fires when they just click in a field. Is there an event, or something I can look at on, say, the Leave event of the tab to see if they have made changes to the data?     - Displaying a selected ListViewItem Hi~ I'm writing an application that displays a list of files in a ListView control and updates their status while filtering and copying processes happen, i.e. - I copy a file, that file's status is displayed as being transfered. I filter a file, it then shows the result of the filtering, etc. The thing is this - If I use labels to display the "currently worked-on" item, the program can't keep up the pace for small files since they get copied and scanned so fast, so the messages coming in from the BackgrounWorkers just plug up the system. Is there a way to set the ListView to show the currently selected ListViewItem, so I can just focus on it as I go along with the copying and filtering?     - .Net 2.0 Pb with multi threads and DataSet dataBinding Hi, I've build an application that use several threads in background. These threads are managed by a manager object and store control data in a dataset. I've also bound the DataSet to a GridView control. When I run the application, althought I "see" the gridview control to be filled and updated byt the actual values filles from the background threads, the application is blocked. Hi, I'm trying to implement APM (Asynchronous Programming Model) API by myself - I mean: IAsyncResult BeginMyFunc(AsyncCallback, object @object); void EndMyFunc(IAsyncResult result); functions pair. The problem is that my working thread has to report updates to the GUI by System.Windows.Forms.Control.Invoke(Delegate method) invocation. How to implement my EndMyFunc(IAsyncResult result) function? It should be something like this inside: result.AsyncWaitHandle.WaitOne(); where AsyncWaitHandle is ManualResetEvent or something like this. Unfortunately, this approach will prevent my GUI thread from handling SendMessage calls coming from working thread invocations of System.Windows.Forms.Control.Invoke(Delegate method). Deadlock is about to happen. The same problem is about terminating phase. I cannot just call this by GUI thread: workingThread.Join(); because of System.Windows.Forms.Control.Invoke(Delegate method) invocations coming from the working thread. The deadlock again. What I need is some kind of .NET replacement for MsgWaitForMultipleObjects + some necessary message pumping.     - Topmost form loses the topmost status when VS2005 is run Hi, I've created a sample project in C# (both in VS 2003 and 2005) that uses just one form and sets its topmost property to true. I run the application and I noticed that everytime I run VS 2005 it loses the topmost status (it is hidden by the VS 2005 IDE). I noticed that the value of the topmost properties continues to be true, even if the form is no longer visible on the screen (covered by the VS2005 window) The only way to make it topmost is clicking on it. I noticed that this behaviour happens also in other occasions (but I couldn't figure out to which they were related). I need the form to be topmost all the time.     - Strange concurrency error Hi I have a perfectly working vs 2003 winform data app. All the data access code has been generated using the data adapter wizard and then pasted into the app. I had to add a new field in the backend access db which I did. I then dragged the table to the dataset and deleted the old table from the dataset it so the dataset can see the new field as well. The problem is that when in update command code I add these two lines Me.updcomCompanies.Parameters.Add(New System.Data.OleDb.OleDbParameter("Web_Enabled", System.Data.OleDb.OleDbType.Boolean, 2, "Web_Enabled")) and Me.updcomCompanies.Parameters.Add(New System.Data.OleDb.OleDbParameter("Original_Web_Enabled", System.Data.OleDb.OleDbType.Boolean, 2, System.Data.ParameterDirection.Input, False, CType(0, Byte), CType(0, Byte), "Web_Enabled", System.Data.DataRowVersion.Original, Nothing)) I startgetting a data concurrency error on mydataadapter.update() method.     - WPF v Windows Forms Hello all, I am just trying to get up to speed with WPF (and .Net 3.0 in general), and trying to decide whether it is worth using WPF for a new business application (job tracking) which will be used by small businesses on windows Pcs (XP/Vista). Hope to have it ready by late 2007. The only reasons I can see to use WPF instead of WinForms are: Built on direct X and not win32 subsystem for graphics rendering (but what precisely is the benefit of that for a business app?) XAML may be easier for designers (non coders); Possibly can acheive a new look which Winforms cannot (but not sure what that is - any examples?)     - Combo box in DataGrid Hello - when I create a datagrid and select the combobox as the column type, the application won't allow me to type freeform text into the combobox when the application is run. It will only allow me to select items from the drop down list. As far as I can tell, a normal combobox will let you select items from a list OR allow freeform text to be entered.     - View - Controller Question for Windows Forms I have an app that has a MainWindow with a menu and toolbar. On the form, I have a SplitContainer with 2 vertical panels. The left hand side panel has an Outlook navigator bar and the right hand side will hold user control forms, which will change depending on which form the user wants to see, ex. customer, invoice, inventory. I have a controller class for each of the different forms, CustomerController, InventoryController etc. All events will be passed to the controller class by the view. Now the question that I have is which view should receive the events from the menu, toolbar and navigator bar. The MainWindow which is holding them, the panel that the navigator bar is in or the user control which represents the form. Regardless of who gets the messgage, it will get passed to the appropriate controller class. The application deploys correctly to the web server but when we attempt to down load the application to the client it gives an error that indicates we don't have the rights to it. I'm an asp.net programmer, but am working on a windows form for this app. I have 1 form and 2 user controls, Say UC(A) and UC(B). UC(A) has a datagrid, UC(B) has a ListBox. When I click on the Datagridrow in UC(A) , the Listbox in UC(B) should Update based upon an ID in the Datagrid, but It wont. I have Tried using RaiseEvents first, then I tried just making a Public Method, and then I tried a Public Property. The code in UC(B) is Fired properly, and the Dataset is retreived from my DataClass, but When I tell my listbox what the data source is, it wont rebind or redraw or something. I also tried the declaring a public event in UC(A), and then Delare UC(A) in UC(B) and setting a method to handle it. But that does not work It fires the event, but nothing at all happens in UC(B). installed. When I try to run the install for this assessment tool, the
application installation begins normally, but stops quickly into the install
with the error: "Unable to install or run the application. The application
requires that the assembly System.AddIn.Contract Version 2.0.0.0 be installed
in the Global Assembly Cache (GAC) first." I have no idea how to get this
assembly installed. Can anyone help me on this?

This sounds like the installer of that application is doing something
wrong. The assembly System.AddIn.Contract is a part of Microsoft's Managed
Addin Framework (MAF), but it shouldn't be your job to install it manually.

Sorry, no real help here - I guess you'll have to find the right contact
or a better newsgroup for a solution.
