    - Losing icons from .resx file I'm losing icons from a .resx file, and I'm not sure why. I'm adding the icons using ResEditor (the resource editor that ships unbuilt with VS.Net). I add the icons, save the .resx file, and all seems well. If I reopen the .resx file, the icons are there, just as expected. But after a couple of compiles, the icons are gone. It I reopen the .resx file, they are no longer there. My code doesn't do anything with the .resx files-- it just reads the resources: System.Resources.ResourceManager resources = new System.Resources.ResourceManager(this.GetType()); this.Icon = (System.Drawing.Icon)resources.GetObject("Folder.Icon"); I'm using EnableVisualStyles() in the Main() method, like this: // Enable XP visual style Application.EnableVisualStyles(); Application.DoEvents(); // Start the application Application.Run(new FormMain()); Can anyone shed any light as to what's going on?     - .NET Framework form creation/swap-space problem? Hi all, I have a really odd problem with some Visual Basic .NET 2003 code; I have a program that creates a number of windows which contain RichTextBox, Timers (disabled) and menus. The code runs fine and creates the windows as required, BUT if the program is left to do nothing for several hours, when it is brought back into focus it generates an exception error (Object reference not set to instance of an object - this always coincides with a LOT of disk activity) when it tries to access a window handle. The really odd thing is, if the excepton is trapped with a breakpoint, examining the values it's trying to manipulate (and which presumably causes the exception) reveals nothing wrong. The code is: Dim NewForm As New Form2 Dim MyWindowHandle as System.IntPtr NewForm.Show() Try MyWindowHandle = NewForm.Handle ' this occassionally goes "bang" Catch ex As Exception MsgBox("Exception") ' by this point, NewForm.Handle has a valid handle in it. End Try If I put a breakpoint on the MsgBox line, when the code generates an exception, NewForm.Handle has a valid value; I can see absolutely no reason why this code causes an exception. The NewForm.Show() works without a problem. I wondered if my code was hitting some resource-limit in XP (like the limit on the number of window handles that existed in Windows 3.1) so I tried running my "create window" code 1,000 times via a loop, and it worked fine. In general ("real") use, the code doesn't get called more than about 30 times. The code is far more likely to crash if it's run in Debug mode via VS itself; if it's compiled in Release mode and run outside of VS, the crashes are less frequent. My theory is that if the program is left doing nothing for several hours, XP or .NET swaps the code to disk and when the program's brought back into focus, it's retrieved from disk but (I'm guessing here) the code starts executing _before_ all the bits and pieces are restored to RAM, hence the exception. By the time the breakpoint is activated, everything's in place and that's why my VS 'watches' on the variables show nothing amiss. If my theory is correct, is there some way a program can test whether it (and its objects) are all present and correct before accessing things like window handles? A couple of other programs I've written also exhibit this problem. Since things like MS Word and Excel don't go horribly wrong when brought into focus, surely there's something Microsoft & others are doing that I'm not (like not writing programs that use the .NET Framework, I suppose ;-) ). Changing the code to look like the following seemed to confirm my theory: Dim NewForm As New Form2 Dim MyWindowHandle as System.IntPtr NewForm.Show() Try MyWindowHandle = NewForm.Handle ' this occassionally goes "bang" Catch ex As Exception MsgBox("Exception") ' This gets called fairly often Thread.Sleep(10000) ' sleep 10 seconds Try MyWindowHandle = NewForm.Handle Catch ex As Exception MsgBox("Exception #2") 'This rarely gets called End Try End Try The first "MyWindowHandle = NewForm.Handle" crashes more than the 2nd one, yet they are both the same thing. My PC is running Windows XP Home Edition SP1 with all the latest fixes, I'm using Visual Studio 2003 Standard Edition, with the latest patch (the 75MB one released last year to apply "documentation updates" (75 megabytes of them??)).     - hlp ContextMenuItem text not being updated I'm updating the text of certain context menu items on right clicking over a DataGrid, like: 'On right click with me.bindings(table).current miMenuItem.Text = .Item("MyName") end with cmContextMenu.Show(Ctrl, pnt) All should be fine you might think, it updates the text on the first display but following that the text remains the same.     - Form Loading very slow Hi All I have a Winforms App writing in vb.net IT has a Main MDI Form called frmMain. When ever I create a new object of an existing form and then show it , it takes a long time to render when a child form creates another form object. All I?m doing is calling the form object's show or showDialog methods. This looks very ugly and unprofessional. As a result I?ve had to develop a 'pre' buffer for the forms on startup with a loading sequence as the next time they are called they show instantly. eg.     - Need help with a Virtual ListView I have a need for a virtual ListView control in C# -- one that allows very large numbers of entries in it, without a linearly increasing penalty for adding more items. I found a suitable example at http://www.windowsforms.com/ControlGallery/ControlDetail.aspx?Control=214&tabindex=9 It has come in extremely handy for one of my C# projects. One of the problems I am facing is that I am unable to draw an image in the first (or any other) column. I can set the text (in any column) just fine. But I have been unable to set an image, despite implementing the QueryItemImage callback, in which I set the image index to 0. A blank image is displayed. Image lists (small, large, and state) are all set. Any ideas on how one might get around this, or if there are any workarounds/hints for this?     - Problem in Zero Deployement Hello Folks, I am trying to develop a Proof Of Concept for a Zero Deployment Created a simple winform. Created a simple WebService. Call a method from WebService on a button click and display results in the TextBoxx So far so good, Everything works as expected but when I try to deploy it over the web I am gettingh the following error. An Exception 'System.IO.FileLoadException' has occured in IEExec.exe This error happens first time when I click on the Exe(http://servername/appdir/appname.exe) It asks me if I would like to debug I decline and next time I try to load the application works fine. This happens also when I try the same on my local machine(I got everything on the same box). And goes away when I try for the second time. It happens after everytimg I compile the application. I have a work around as I explained but I would like find out from the Great Minds what is causing this error.     - Listview Item.Selected not populating Listview.SelectedItems collection Hi, I'm having some trouble getting the Listview.Items[0].Selected = true to populate the SelectedItems collection. The code that I'm using is: CtrlTransferSettings tester = CtrlTransferSettings() if (pos < tester.lstStrings.Items.Count) { tester.lstStrings.Focus(); tester.lstStrings.Items[0].Selected = true; tester.lstStrings.Select(); } What's happening is that the SelectedItems.Count is staying at 0, even after setting Items[0].Selected to true. While in debug mode, if I go look at the "Autos" listing and drill-down to the lstStrings.SelectedItems.Count property it updates itself and then lists the count as 1 and everything works correctly. But, it will only update if I drill down the 'autos list' in debug-mode. If I just run the code, the count always stays at 0. Is this a bug in the ListView control? Or am I missing a step?     - transparencykey + png's I'm writing a little calendar/to-do/etc application like rainlendar ( http://www.ipi.fi/~rainy/index.php?pn=projects&project=rainlendar ).     - 2 comboboxes with the same datasource act as 1. Help I have 2 instances of a user control on a windows form. Each user control has a combobox. I have set the datasource for each combobox to the same collection of objects. I would expect these two comboboxes to act completely independently, but with the same selections available. What I am seeing, however, is that if I change the selected value of one combobox, that the selected value of the other combo box changes as well. Does anybody out there know what is going on?     - Winform app not opening from browser Hello, we are having a strange problem and thought I would see if anyone could provide some insight. We have a winform app deployed via the "No-Touch Deployment" model. The problem is that we have 1 user (so far) who is navigating to it from a web page (we actually do a window.open from the web page), and they just get a blank Internet Explorer page. Now, if you refresh the page, it actually seems to display the binary characters of the exe. It appears that IE is not handing off to IEExec.exe, because if the user actually runs IEExec.exe <URL to the exe>, the application starts up. I have no idea what to do in this situation except re-install either the Framework or Internet Explorer. Any ideas? I couldn't find anything on google.     - how to pass DataSet to modal form? Hi, My main form shows a datagrid with data and I want to open a modal dialog with bound controls on it when the user double-clicks a row. Both forms have an instance of my typed dataset and the controls on the dialog are bound to its dataset. I pass the row I want to the dialog and use DataSet.Merge to add the row to the dialog's DataSet. At this point the row is Unchanged, which is OK. As an example, let's assume a column holds the value "11". After typing "22" in the bound textbox, the value is "22", but the RowState is still Unchanged. It gets just a null value, but if I remove this row and insert new one (in DataGrid) then it starts to calculate rows correcly and gets the correct "ProductNro". It's not a problem if there is no rows already in DataTable but since you have to add new Products in old invoices then you get again the null problem. How this is possible that the first row gets null but rows after first one gets correct values? I have tested and found out that when first row is added DataTable seems to be empy (row.count) but it still shows correctly rows on my DataGrid.     - Datagrid Issues I'm currently trying to develop a solution containing a bound DataGrid that allows insert and update functions. I'm having 2 problems that i'd appreciate some help with. The first problem is where I have a primary key field that I don't want users to be able to modify. The obvious solution is to configure the column to be read only. However, then when a user tries to insert a record, that column is still read only and so nothing can be entered. The second problem i'm having is to do with validation. I have a RowChanging event on the underlying DataTable that validates the data and if there are any problems uses SetColumnError to flag the issue to the user. I also have a Validating event on the DataGrid that I use to confirm that there are no errors before a user can leave the grid. The problem is that the RowChanging and Validating events both fire at the same time. So that if a value is changed to an invalid value and then the grid is left, the value has not been flagged as an error when the Validating event runs.     - Data Binding Bug I have started a new Windows form project, and added to the Form1 constructor the following: Form2 form2 = new Form2(); form2.Show(); Form2 is just a new form with a checkbox added to it. in the Form2 constructor I've added: this.checkBox1.DataBindings.Add("Checked", this, "TopMost"); So, I was expecting that the Form2 wasn't hidden by Form1 when the checkbox was checked, because i have bound Checkbox1.Checked property to Form2.TopMost property. However, this doesn't work? Why??? I'm completely lost :( If I change the databinding to: this.DataBindings.Add("TopMost", this.checkBox1, "Checked"); it works as expected, but i can't understand why. isn't databinding supossed to be conmutative?     - Read only project in solution Hi All, Is there a way of adding a project into the solution as read-only? I have a project which is common across all the applications. I am writing a small application which makes use of this project. Instead of adding the project binary as a reference I would like to add the whole project into my solution, but I don't want myself editing this common project if I am doing something in the little application.     - Datagrid, disable single cell selection Hi As newbie I am stuggeling with the datagrid. What I want is that if I select a cell the entire row is selected. This part I have figured out.     - using cycling 2 forms hi, I have a problem with using 2 forms.In FormA , there is a button which calls FormB & in FormB there is a button which calls FormA . Imagine , FormA has been loaded , user click a button to load FormB .So , FormB is showing on the FormA ,& FormA is under this form. Now User click a button on the formB to show FormA .     - Scrolling in ContextMenu Hey all, I've got a problem with a slightly bigger contextmenu. Let's say I have 100 MenuItems then the context menu gets a little arrow on the very top and the very bottom. The one at the very bottom is black to suppose it is selectable, the one at the very top is grey (not selectable). By clicking on the bottom arrow I would expect I would scroll down my list of MenuItems. Instead the list of items is closed (quite slowly, looks somewhat strange). Shouldn't this work for itself? The aforementioned control "AxABC" is then subclassed as MyABCControl. The inheritance chain now goes like this: MyABCControl -> AxABC -> AxHost -> Control ... Hi all,
I am not sure if this is the right forum for this message but here goes,
I have some XML date(at present I have it held within a string and saved
to a file on my local file system using the streamwriter object)

I have an XSD that defines the relationship between the data in the xml
file and tables in my SQL server (i know this works becuase I have used
this using SQLXMLBULKLOADLib3.0)

I need a .NET way (NOT USING ANY 3rd PARTY COMPONENTS) to get the XML
data into SQL Server? Can anyone help? I don't really care about the
type of solution so longs as it is pure .NET and no external references.
