    - Source for multi-track editor? Hi, I need to build a testing scenario generator that will create binary messages for an application we have built. The UI would look like a movie editor in that it would have parallel timelines for the actions of several people and several machines. The user would be able to lay down action icons on the timelines to show what was going on at any given time and specify the some properties of the action. At some point the user could click <Make Scenario> and all the corresponding input for testing would be generated. What I'm wondering is anyone knows of some source code in C# for a similar kind of editor that might serve as a starting point.     - Disable Task Manager I'm trying to figure out how to PROGRAMMATICALLY disable the Task Manager while logged in as a "non-administrator" user (only belongs to the "Users" group). I know I can programmatically disable the Task Manager by having my app write a 1 to the registry key HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System. Unfortunatley this only works, though, if the user who is running the app is logged in as an Administrator. When I try to run the app as a just a regular "non-administrator" User I am not able to write to the registry! So... Is it possible to do this? If so how?     - Detecting idle time from a .Net application I'm having a lot of trouble finding a universal and stable solution to the problem of detecting a session's idle time. I have a .Net application that runs in the system tray, much like many of the messenger services out there. From what I've read in the newsgroups, there are several mechanisms that I can try, but the biggest problem is that I have to get it working on Win98, WinME, Win2K and WinXP. The options I've found are: 1) On a timer, use GetLastInputInfo to check the last input event No good. This requires Win2K and up - I need to run on 98 and ME 2) Add a low-level mouse and keyboard hook in my .Net application using SetWindowsHookEx specifying the hooks WH_MOUSE_LL and WH_KEYBOARD_LL Again, works great in XP, but WH_MOUSE_LL and WH_KEYBOARD_LL are incompatible with 98 andME 3) Add a global mouse and keyboard hook in an external DLL using SetWindowHookEx and WH_MOUSE and WH_KEYBOARD This work fine accross all platforms, but for some reason whenever the screensaver kicks in, my hook stops receiving events. So my question is, is there another solution I should try, or is there something I should be aware of that could get any of the above solutions to work?     - delete selected rows from a datagrid I have a datagrid whose datasource is a datatable. I want the user to select (multiple) rows in the datagrid, press a button and have the selected rows deleted. Iterating through the rows in the datagrid and testing to see if each is selected and then deleting the associated datarow from the datatable is probably inefficient but nevertheless doesn't work because the selected rows in the datagrid are reset as soon as the first record is deleted from the datatable.     - Newbie: Dataset - ComboBox synchronization Hello, I have two questions involving Datasets and populating ComboBoxes and other controls with them. 1) Two cmbboxes are populated by two different fields of the same table and, of course, synchronized. However the second field is not required in the DB and missing contents sometimes. Ex: Field1 Field2 john 1990 mary paul anna mario 1967 james .....,etc. So when the user scrols through cmbField1 there is no problem, however if you want to scroll through the year there are big gaps that you go through because there is no contents there. Is there a way to get around that and STILL keep the cmb Boxes synchronized? 2) Now, after having the above from the same table and trying to get *Related* info from another table in my DB (of course still synchronized with the other two controls) I added a second table to the dataset with the INNER JOIN info. I access the new field by : Table1.field3. But field3 belongs to Table2 !!! not Table1! Is this normal? People say it's not a good idea to add more than one table in the same dataset. If this is true how can I get Relational information that is still synchronized? (i.e. fields 1 and 2 from Table1 and field 3 from Table 2) The fact that I get what I want is not enough.     - Combo Box Display Member is reset Context: setting a collection of business objects as the DataSourceof a ComboBox. The collection itself extends CollectionBase, and has public properties exposing the desired display and value members. In this particular case, the display and value member is "Value". Prior to setting the combo box datasource, the display member and value member properties are set, then the datasource itself is set. So, before setting the DataSource, the DisplayMember = "Value", but after setting the DataSource, the DisplayMember reverts to "". To put a twist on the issue, the second time that the DataSource is set, everything works as it should...     - MSComm doesn't fire OnComm event in a User Control Iâ??m developing a user control (in C#) that encapsulates the MSComm control. MSComm control is available as a COM component. So, Visual Studio.Net automatically prepares an Interop wrapper for this component. I want to use my user control in a C# windows application. Iâ??m able to send the data through this user control. But the problem is that my user control doesnâ??t catch the OnComm event. Iâ??m sure that there is no problem with the settings of MSComm control. This is because when I put an MSComm control in a separate windows application and then tried to catch the OnComm event, it worked fine and I got all the data from the Input property within the event handler. To Summarize: MSComm control doesnâ??t fire OnComm event in a User Control application. MSComm control does fire OnComm event in a Windows application. Of course, I know the exception was thrown somewhere within the context of my whole application, just not the actual line number. Yes, there are a number of clues provided in the stack trace, but nothing half as useful as an actual line number. My guess is that for this to happen, the actual line number must not be wrapped in a try-catch block. Now, for the most part, I have try-catch blocks everywhere throughout my application. Upon recent review I discovered I was doing something unusual -- I have try-catch blocks wrapping calls to events that are handled in turn by the even subscriber. When I wrote this logic it was my understanding that such a try-catch block would still do the trick.     - Newbie: Aligning Labels and TextBoxes on form Hi, When I design forms, I frequently have a lower-right aligned Label to the left of a TextBox. For example, I might have a Label with the Text property set to "Name:" and a TextBox to the immediate right where the user types his name. It's very hard to get the bottom of the label to align with the bottom of the text box. I discovered that VS.NET will perform the alignment for me if I select both items and use Format | Align | Bottoms. When dealing with long forms containing dozens of Label-TextBox pairs, I run into problems when I try to select ALL of the controls and, for example, move them all down an inch or two. I might do this if I realize that I forgot to include a particular label-textBox pair at the top of the form. When I move everything down (or up), I lose my alignment. The Labels and TextBoxes no longer have aligned bottoms. They are close, but not a match. This means I have to re-select each of the pairs and align them one by one EACH and every time I decide to change the form in a way that moves these pairs around. This is getting frustration for me.     - MouseEnter MouseLeave BUG - form caching? Hi all, I have been told of a mouseEnter mouseLeave BUG, that I have experienced (wich I can't find in the KB). For a brief introduction I'll explain it: The first time you show a form, mouseEnter/mouseLeave events of child controls fire correctly. When you close the form and show it the next time, only the first mouseEnter event (for the controls that had previously fired it) works, then no more mouseEnter/mouseLeave events are fired, no matter if you close the form and show it again. I have experienced this the first time with a picturebox, but lookig for other ways to do what I wanted to, I notice that the problem is at least with labels, buttons and pictureboxes. So I guess it is a bug of the framework for windows forms. My question is... I want to cache objects that include forms. I don't want to instantiate them all the time... is there a way to "clear" event wiring/messages of the form (remember that the first time the form is showed everything works fine)? Hi All, I not sure where to ask this question so I will start here. I have a piece of wireless hardware that streams music from my PC to my HiFi. Running on the PC is a windows service that the wirelss device talks to. I would like to find out how they communicate with one an other. When I select an album on the wireless device and press play it must send a message or raise an event which the aforementioned service traps or responds to by looking in its database and streaming my selection. I would like to knock up a little catch all app which I could use to try and track what was going on and any pointers would be much appreciated (VB6 or VB.NET).     - How can I suppress ScrollActiveControlIntoView? I have developed a control which contains two other controls (much larger than itself) and scrolls over them. When one of the child controls has focus, and I resize the window, the scroll bar in the containing window jumps to the top. This is unacceptable...I want to keep a particular part of my control (where the selection is) visible. By intercepting WM_MOVE in my WndProc, I have been able to determine that this is happening in an undocumented Framework method called ScrollActiveControlIntoView. Apparently when you resize a ContainerControl, it thinks the active control should be visible, and it also appears that it thinks 'making it visible' means making the TOP of it visible. I tried changing the base class of the container from UserControl to Panel, so that it wouldn't inherit from ContainerControl, and doing my own focus management. It didn't help. There is another window (further out) that is a container control, and it apparently digs down through the hierarchy, finds the active control, and forces it to be visible (i.e., changes the scroll position of its container to show its top). By default this also happens when my control gets focus. I was able to defeat this by overriding WndProc and not calling the base method for WM_SETFOCUS. (Is this dangerous?)     - Crystal Reports for .NET is crashing, can you help me out? I have a multi-threaded C# desktop application that is run 8 hours a day under fairly heavy load. It prints hundreds of reports to a printer and to pdf files. The application is CTDing several times a day with no error message. The crashes appear consistently during the generation of reports to either the printer or a PDF file. Because the reports can be quite extensive and time consuming I run the reports in a background thread. I use invoke to signal the main thread on progress. I have monitored the memory and CPU on the machines and have not noticed any problem there. Environment: Windows XP SP 1, .NET Framework 1.1 SP 1, most recent Crystal .NET patch, SQL Server 2000 My questions are as follows: 1. Has anyone seen this problem and do you have any suggestions? 2. Is there a way to generate a log within the managed crystal reports object so I can see internal errors? 3. Is there a more stable option for reporting than Crystal reports?     - Keyboard Remap I want to remap the ENTER key on the numeric keypad to the TAB key for the duration of my application. I realise I can do this globally using Scancode Map in the registry but can it be done within an application? I have also tried using SendKeys within the KeyDown event but this has the folloiwng problems... 1. Cannot diffrentiate between the QWERTY ENTER key and the numeric keypad key. 2. We just installed our stub exe (the one that pulls the assemblies from a web

server) on a Windows 98 machine.

I ran the stub (all it does is an assembly.loadfrom pointing to a url) and

got all kinds of strange thread exceptions.

I looked in the assembly|download folder and it's empty.

Anybody had any experiences with NTD and windows 98?
