    - Autocomplete with custom filter behaviour Hi all, I'd like to have a textbox column in a DataGridView with autocomplete functionality, but the default behaviour (get with AutoCompleteMode, AutoCompleteSource and AutoCompleteCustomSource properties) filters the items from the initial letters (e.g. if I press 'A', in the AutoComplete list I can see only the items starting with 'A'), while I'd like to filter by searching inside the whole string (pressing 'A' show all items containing 'A' and so on).     - Prevent ContextMenu from closing and menu item size Hello, I have a context menu (not ContextMenuStrip) with a couple of menu items. For one of the items, when it's clicked, I want to do some work but not close/hide the context menu after the click. Is there a way for me to keep the menu open?     - Microsoft XP Pro 64 Bit..Title Bar is gone.. How to fix without re Microsoft XP Pro 64 Bit Title Bar is missing. I have no Minimize, Maximize and close option. On a Maximized page for Internet Explorer, the Title Bar is black above the: website, locked site, refresh icon. On a Maximized page for a Microsoft Word Document, the Title Bar is black above the: File, Edit, View... and I can not minimize or maximize on any window I open including my Microsoft Outlook e-mail. On a Minimized page I see the Title Bar just fine but have to use "Alt, Space-bar" in order to get the minimize, maximize, close option. I am trying to figure out if there is a way to fix this without having to do a system restore to a date prior to February 10, 2008 when my son somehow messed up the Title Bar on all applications I run. This problem is through out my system on anybody's page, we all have our own log in pages with our own desktop and such. The problem occurred on my sonsâ?? page and when I opened mine, my page was messed up as well. The Start Menu Tool Bar was missing I had to bring it up from way down on the bottom of the page. It took a while but I got it back. Then I went to use a Word Doc. and that's when I noticed the "Title Bar" Missing and no options to: Minimize, Maximize or close my Word Pages.     - Creating Smart Tag Designer I'm trying to create my first Smart Tag designer in VB 2005 but am unable to create a class derived from System.ComponentModel.Design.DesignerActionList. Public Class xx Inherits System.ComponentModel.Design.DesignerActionList gives on the Inherits line the error: Type 'System.ComponentModel.Design.DesignerActionList' is not defined. In the Object Browser I can see DesignerActionList, along with 17 more items that begin with DesignerAction. When I type: System.ComponentModel.Design. Intellisense doesn't show any items that start with DesignerAction. I do see the other items in System.ComponentModel.Design. This must be something stupid I am doing wrong, but I can't see it.     - DataGridView Column Headers from First Row of Excel DataTable I'm sure this is something ridiculously simple or just not possible without custom coding: How do I tell a DataGridView NOT to create column headers from the first row of a data table using an Excel datasource? All I want to do is have the first row of data from the Excel worksheet be the first row of data in the DataGridView and NOT be the column headers.     - Concurrency error deleting record with vs 2008 generated code Hi I have a very simple db app that was created by dragging a couple of fields onto a windows form. No additional code was added. The problem is that app gives a concurrency error while deleting a record even though no other user has access to the app. Steps to create problem 1. Create an access table Clients with only two fields; ID Auto number and Company: Text(50). 2. Make a connection to the access db in vs2008 and add the data source to the connection. 3. From data source, drag the fields ID and Company onto a windows form. This will create the binding source, binding navigator etc. 4. Click on new (+) icon on toolbar to create a new record. 5. Type XYZ in Company text field and click on Save (disk) icon on toolbar to save the record. 6. Click on Delete (x) icon to delete the record and then Save icon on toolbar to save the record deletion. At this point the error is generated with the stack trace given at the end below. What is the problem and how can I fix it?     - Build custom save dialog under VB.net 2005 I'm trying to build a custom Save Dialog, using VB.net 2005. The reason I cannot use the regular save dialog, is the "path" that it needs to save to isn't actually in the file system, but rather is a system accessible by calls to an already-existing assembly and web server. Getting the data from the assembly and web server I can handle. However, I'm having difficulty with creating the custom Save Dialog. Part of the thing (and maybe part of the problem) is that I decided to start by creating a "Browser Form" type of form, and I figured I'd modify it from there. I especially like having a left pane for the "treeview" of the folder structure, and the right pane for the "listview" of the files/folders in the selected item on the tree. I also like the built-in functionality (that comes with that "browser form" object) that allows me to resize the treeview or hide it altogether. Here's the problem: in order to be a "save" dialog, I also need a text box at the bottom for the destination filename. I also need a drop-down for the file-type (for the browser, to filter the contents in the listview). It'd be nice to also have a "description" textbox too. Here's the problem: with the "browser form", it has a status bar at the bottom (which I really don't even need), but even if I remove it, I cannot resize the space to accommodate two text boxes and a combo box. Any ideas? Part of the idea is I was hoping to avoid coding it from scratch if possible (and if I do that, I'd probably lose the ability to resize the treeview side) Thanks!     - Reformed access user needs advise for future Hi Many a times I have been told off here for asking question on a backend other than sql sever. So I have finally seen the light and have decided to take up my next project with sql server backend (vb.net front). So here is my question; What are the recommended db development guidelines to achieve both a) a good user experience of being able to scroll to any record using record navigation buttons and b) the db efficiency requirement of not loading too many records in dataset at one time. If there is such a strategy to which many agree then there should be a sample code app somewhere. It would help me enormously to see the guts of an actual well written db app - no matter how trivial as long as it covers the necessary detail - instead of advise like don't do this or that without the coding specifics.     - Control Size? Cache Maybe? Greetings all. I'm having a very strange (not to mention frustrating) problem. I'm developing a Windows Forms C# application in VS 2008. On the bottom of the form, I have four controls. Originally they were all set to one size - 206, 74. I'm trying to change them all to be 180, 60. I've used the various toolbar buttons (make all same width, make all same size, etc.) to no avail. Although the controls will appear to be the same size in the designer, when I debug the program, three of the four controls will be the new size, but the last one reverts to the old size. I've saved the project with all the controls appearing to be the same size in the designer, closed VS 2008, reboot my machine...and when I reload the solution, the fourth control is stuck at the old size. I've even gone so far as to modify the Form1.designer.cs file outside of the development environment with the solution closed to set the new size manually, however, upon reloading the solution, again, it's the old size. Is form information cached anywhere? Is there something obvious that I'm missing? This seems like such a simple problem to overcome, yet I'm about to go postal.     - Prompt characters in a MaskedTextBox The MaskedTextBox only allows a single prompt character to be displayed upon user input. I need the ability to display different prompt characters for certain character positions. How can I do this? Also, due to the nature of the text being inputted, I suspect that I will need to use a regex to validate this properly. So I'm assuming because of these two limitations, that the MaskedTextBox isn't the way to go. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can go about this? With "perfect size" I mean the width and height a form needs to have to perfectly fit all the components (buttons, labels, text fields etc) with respect to the margins, paddings and layout constraints WITHOUT being too big or too small. Even if start counting the pixels for each component it is a waste of time because if a different system font a system theme or screen resolution is used, the size (in pixels) changes. In Java/AWT, there is function pack() which does exactly this. Is there an equivalent in C#/.NET/Winforms? It is also important that this function can be called during runtime. Some of my forms have a dynamic content based on user selections. Thus, the "perfect size" needs to be recomputed now and than... Thanks for any ideas!
