    - How to show fields from related tables in the same datagrid I run VS .Net 2003. I have a distributed application with sql server 2000 and windows front end, written in c#. I have a number of tables in a dataset with relations between them. In one single read-only datagrid I would like to display child rows from a child table as well as one column from the parent table. Can I fix this with DataViewmanager as source for the datagrid? I need some example code. The Datagrid insists on showing both parent and child records in the same datagrid, with the child rows following the parent row. I dont want this behaviour. How can I switch it off?     - ColumnChanging event and boolean data type in Datagrid, BUG? Hello everyone, It's not getting better, the more I delve into it, the more frustrated I get. But it should be a simple thing, after all, all I'm trying to do is put some data validation code for a column of a table. To understand the problem more clearly I used 'Products' table of the Northwind databse. I made a simple form that shows all the column of the table. There is a 'bit' field in the table called 'Disontinued'. I wrote the following code to incorporate some 'business logic' in the ColumnChanging event for the table. --------------------------- if (e.Column.ColumnName == "Discontinued" && (bool)e.ProposedValue) { if ((short)e.Row["UnitsInStock"] >= 0) throw new Exception("You can not discontinue this product"); } ---------------------------- Several things happen when I try to do the change in the datagrid some of which are more severe than others. When I 'tick' the corresponding field with a mouse and istead of taking the mouse focus from the field press 'tab' to take the input focus somewhere else, the whole thing crashes. Am I supposed to handle the exception that I threw? Apparently not! When I use the mouse to take the focus somewhere else, a message is shown with my exception and the grid behaves properly. Again, when I use mouse to go to another row on the same column (i.e. Discontinued), the grid behaves exactly the way I want, the column gets reset to its original 'unticked' state after I answer 'No' to the question asked by the grid. But if I click on some other column on the same row or in another row and give the same 'No' answer to the same question, the column value does not get reset, it takes the newly 'ticked' state, even though I threw the exception.     - Dataset Merge Issues When marshalling changes into a dataset and calling the update on this dataset, you want to merge the result back into the orginal dataset. This appears not to work when you modify any of the Primary Key columns (please no lectures on modifying the primary key :-) ). By not working, I mean I get duplicate rows. When I do not modify the PK, I do not get duplicate rows. The below are two sets of results from tracing through a modification of tblPackageProduct. The first four columns make up the primary key. By looking at the original and current values of the first set, you can see the Original values are different so that should explain that. However, on the 2nd second set of results there is no reason the changes dataset and original dataset should not merge correctly (no duplicates). The only explanation I can come up with is dataset merge will not work when the PK is modified -- even if the values match up perfectly. Can anyone explain this? I thought a solution might be to drop the PK before marshalling the changes of the dataset and then reestablishing them after the merge and accept changes. This way I could verify the PK is a factor or not. I could not test test this since tblPackageProduct.PrimaryKey.Clear while hopeful did not work for me.     - Multiplied MdiChild caption entry while restoring MdiParent from SysTry Hi All! My MDI application can be minimized easily to system try with use of NotifyIcon but I encounter two strange problems. Wrong caption settings is subject of this message. Problem description: when I do restore main form (MdiParent) to its original state through one of NotifyIcon events, setting Visible property to true and last non minimized WindowState causes form to restore properly, however, on the caption there are multiple entries for the only existing MdiChild i.e.: "MdiParent Text" - ["MdiChild Text"] ["MdiChild Text"] ["MdiChild Text"] Obviously it's very easy to correct this by setting right text in MdiParent and clearing MdiChild text every it's needed, however, this breaks handling of MdiChild Text property in menus and many other places. This problem or bug occurs only in .NET v1.1 while .NET v2.0 works fine. Unfortunately I have to support old runtime for some time in future, as many of our customers will not move to .NET v2.0 very fast.     - webbrowser synchronous navigate We are using the webbrowser control, and we need to synchronously load a page. I don't see anything that does that. Is there any kind of cues for me to be able to do that or some function I'm missing? Basically we're writing out a temporary file (pdf) and then having it displayed in the browser. And then when a particular method is called, we want to unload this file and delete it. I'm calling navigate to "about:blank" but it doesn't seem to happen immediately so the delete call on the file is failing because it's still in use. Anybody know of how I should go about this?     - Modal Forms Hi Everyone, I am working in VB.NET, Framework v.1.0. I have tons of forms in my application. I have a situation, where a form starts another form as a Modal Dialog. The Modal Dialog then possibly starts another form as Modal Dialog. Thus, if the main form is frmMain, and the other two forms are frmOne and frmTwo, then frmMain calls frmOne.ShowDialog(me) and frmOne calls frmTwo.ShowDialog(me). My problem is that when frmTwo is closed or hidden, frmOne also closes or hides. I would like to prevent this from happening. I tried setting the forms TopMost. I tried using the SetWindowsPos API call to mess with the Z-Order of the forms. I tried to just use the frm.Show() method and attempt to emulate a Modal dialog with trickery. I add one row by keying in some data in a column: normal behavior. At this point I do not call DataAdapter.Update because I have a second row to enter. I tab to a new row in the grid. I've found this type of functionality in some of the third pary control suites, but I don't need anything as complex / expensive as these look. If I have to write it myself, I'm open to sugestions as to how I can do this and still use the .Net localization features. My current thought is to... 1) Make a custom textbox class that has a static string value that contains a regex pattern that each keystroke should match. The pattern to match will be determined by examining CultureInfo.CurrentCulture.NumberFormat.CurrencyDecimalDigits and CurrencyDecimalSeparator. I'm hoping the total number of regex patterns is pretty small ( I only know of decimal and non-decimal currencies overall, and only "." and "," as decimal separators - that only gives me four total patterns if I don't consider fractional inputs) Plus I can always build my regex pattern dynamically). 2) Validate the input string against the regex pattern on each keystroke.     - VS .NET 2003 - Cannot create items in Enterprise Framework projects VS .NET 2003 Hello everyone, I have made a few templates for all sorts of items (forms, usercontrols, components...) and added them so I can pick them up from Project\Add\Add New Item... menu. I have also made some changes to DAP.TDL and VSIDE.tdl policy files. Everything was fine until yesterday when I have tried to change one add-in that adds a few items automatically from templates. I do not really know what went wrong but now I cannot add any item to Enterprise framework projects. I can only add a DataSet in simple windows project. for example, when I try to add a form to project I get message: "Could not run the 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003\VC#\CSharpProjectItems\LocalProjectItems\..\CSharpAddWinFormWiz.vsz' wizard." I assign text that I want to display to WebBrowser control by using DocumentText property.     - Framework 1.1 /2.0 Controls Hosted in Internet Explorer Hi All, I have a windows forms controls hosted in IE via the object tag method. The control was built to run on 1.1 of the framework and works fine whilst version 2.0 is not installed on the machine. When version 2 is installed the executables are downloaded to the 2.0 temporary directory, even though the assemblies where build under 1.1 and are referencing the 1.1 framework. That is, when 2.0 is installed they are downloaded to Documents & Settings\<CurrentUser>\Local Settings\Application Data\assembly\dll3 instead of Documents & Settings\<CurrentUser>\Local Settings\Application Data\assembly\dll2. In order to become more familiar with the Model-View-Controller pattern, I have written a demo where each View is a plugin and the plugins are loaded at startup from the plugins directory. When the View's are loaded they add themselves to the DataModel View list... ViewChanged(this, e); This all works fine as long as I only have 1 instance of each type of view. So in this case I have a Pie Chart View and Bar Chart view of the data ( as well as the usual DataGrid view all as plugins ). Then the delegates correctly fire and everything works as advertised. The problem arises if I instantiate a second instance of say the Bar Chart. When that happens the first Bar Chart stops responding/refreshing while the second Bar Chart updates correctly. The visible item in the combobox corresponds to the job classification of an employee: accountant, manager, etc. Due to data entry errors, some employees do not have a classification in the db.
