    - ClickOnce after MSI Deployment I have a customer who wants to leverage ClickOnce for a WinForms app deployment from an IIS server. Some of their users are remote and only occasionally connected to the internet. As a result, they would like to have an alternate MSI installer for the app for those users who cannot get to the IIS server. My question: is there any way to take an app that is deployed via MSI and then point it at a ClickOnce publication after the fact? (and be brought up to the latest version of the published app?)     - VB.Net Calling VB Form Hello All, I have a application that has a VB.Net form with search text box, a listview and a button. Once the user clicks on a button, it will populate the listview with some results. Once the user double clicks on a result, it will open up a VB6 form. The form is still VB6 because the .Net piece is not written yet. Anyways, the VB6 form has a "Tab Control" on it. Here is my problem. Once I click on the tab control on my VB6 form. Then if I click back to the .Net search form using the bottom task bar. Once I try to enter in a new search. My VB6 form will set focus back to itself and appear on top. Any Suggestions!!!!!     - OnClosing event doesn't close form Hi Group, I raise OnClosing event in a handler of a menu item. It invokes the OnClosing registered delegate but it doesnot close the form. But if i click on the close icon [X] of the form it invokes the OnClosing registered delegate and then closes the form.     - Command Line Paramater Is there a way to add a paramater to opening the application? For instance. If I have a windows form that will modify a registry value, and I'd like to set it up so that it either closes after it runs, or it stays open. What I'd like to do is add a paramater to the command line that will indicat this. Like: c:\editreg.exe -close and the "-close" paramater would be passed into a variable somehow that would allow me to program it so that the program would automatically close when it's finished running...     - UI Cues not updating in designer Got a custom container control that contains other custom subcontrols that have a custom designer. The subcontrol's designer has a couple verbs that fire off events that changes the order of that subcontrol in the parent custom control. It's another version of the collapsible panel bar, where in designer you can right click on a panel and move it up or down in the panel bar. The problem I'm having is that when I move a panel, the UI cues don't get updated. The panels will move, but the selection highlight will not move with the panel. It appears that a different control is selected than actually is. Clicking on a different panel will update the cues (except when you click on the control that is highlighted incorrectly -- the cues already indicate it is selected, so no change appears to have been made). I can't find any information on how to refresh the cues. I've tried Invalidate and Refresh in the custom container control, but they don't work. TIA.     - Asynchronous Drag and Drop I am trying to implement Asynchronously Drag and Drop from my windows application developed in c#. I 'd like a behavoir like winzip i.e. : when I drop on the target (a folder or the desktop) my file is not yet available and I want to start an asynchronous filetransfer managed from my application.     - Form validation problem Hi, i'm trying to force validation of each control in a form by setting focus explicitly on each control prior to calling this.Validate(). The idea is to ensure that the data is validated when the user presses the ok button on the form. The problem is that setting focus on some controls alters the state of the control. For example, setting focus on radiobuttons sets the checked state to true. Is there anyway to force control validation without altering the state of the control? I saw one eample using reflection, forcing the control's validation event to occur, but i dont want to reflect into the private methods of the .net framework for future compability.     - No-Touch Ent Lib I am getting an error with no touch deployment using Enterpise Lib. in my project. The error is: Invalid section name. The section 'dataConfiguration' does not exist in the requested configuration file myapp.exe.config or machine.config. Make sure that the 'enterpriseLibarary.configurationSections' configuration sectino exists in tone of the files and that th esection 'dataConfiguration' is defined'.     - Single instance of an app I'd like to prevent my app from running more than once. In VB6 this was simple using PrevInstance. MSDN Library describes using Diagnostics.Process.GetProcessByName to see if the the currently running thread has another instance running.     - Resolution? I have a strange bug that I can't seem to figure out. I have a VB.Net application that is deployed on 100 different computers. On two of the machines the controls on one of the forms seem to "hang" off the edge of the screen when the form is maximized. The window resizes itself perfectly fine when maximized but the controls in the form itself seem to think the form is bigger and hang off the edge of the screen and can not be reached. Changing the monitor resolution does not solve this problem. Now, keep in mind, only two of the deployments are having this problem. Every other machine that uses the application resizes the controls properly. Has anyone experienced this before?     - More questions about client areas Similar situation to other posts, but I hope I can get a better answer to mine. I have a control derived from System.Windows.Forms.ContainerControl. I do all my own painting. Consequently, the area that I wish to allow users to place controls is smaller and has a different location than the ClientRectangle. Setting the ClientSize doesn't work, as this only changes the size, not the origin. ClientRectangle is read only, and cannot be overridden. DisplayRectangle can be overridden, but it only affects child controls that are docked. If they are just anchored, they can still be placed outside of the DisplayRectangle. Essentially, all I want to do is what could easily be done by changing the size and origin of the ClientRectangle. Right now, the only way to do it is to override the OnLayout event and make sure the control is within the correct area. is there a simpler way? And if not, why can't ClientRectangle be overridden?     - About that new app.config Hi, I just started looking at this new typed app.config in Visual Studio 2005 and I must admit I'm very confused. I Googled quite a bit to find more information but could not found anything usable. I have a few questions and I appreciate if some of you could take the time to answer them. 1. How do I encrypt connection strings in Windows Forms apps. I read that it can be done automatically for ASP.NET apps, but this feature seems to have been left out of WinForms. Am I right? Do I need to manually code this or there's an automated way? 2. It seems that the config file is stored in a path that ends with the version number of the application (ie: c:\......\v1.0.0.0). What happens if users upgrade to v1.0.0.1 for example? Will they lose all their settings? How can I prevent this from happening? Can I store my app.configs in a version independent path (user settings and application settings)? 3. How can I access my UI project's settings from class libraries (other assemblies)? 4. How is app.config deployed with ClickOnce? 5. Why is Visual Studio 2005 creating app.configs for all the projects of my solution?     - Client specific localization I've read a lot about language localization, but I'm not sure how I can apply all of that to the following problem. I have an application that I would like to "brand" for various clients. Some bitmaps and icons, labels throughout the application, etc. I would like to be able to deploy the same application at each client, and then create a unique resource file for that installation. This would also allow me to update the application and resources separately as needed (with some care to handle new resources). If possible, I would like to embed the default localization in the main app itself (so that the app could run without any external resource). If this was localization for different languages, I think I understand how to do that. To do that for the same language and just different installations, I just don't get it.     - Capturing mouse, key events Hello, I'm trying to modify a C# sample app (Scribble) such that the user can draw w/o holding the mouse button down -- first mouse click turns on drawing, moving the mouse draws, and the second mouse click turns it off. In the MouseUpHandler, I set the Capture property: this.Capture = true; Some TRACE output in the MouseMove handler shows that when the cursor leaves the mdi child window, it stops getting the mouse messages. Also, after setting Capture to true in the mouseup handler (after calling base.OnMouseUp()), Capture is _false_ in the mousemove handler. While I'm just experimenting with this app, eventually I'll be drawing rubber band shapes and I need to have the rubber band drawing track with the mouse, even when it is outside the client window. Is there a way to accomplish this? Also, when a window has 'captured' the mouse, should it get all the keyboard input as well, or does something else need to be done? For example, in a differnt app, when I am drawing a rubber rectangle with the mouse button held down, my shortcut key to bring up the Open File dialog still works. TIA for any ideas.     - Breakpoints not working multi project solution Hi, I have a solution which contains 3 projects. (The main GUI, a WebBrowser component and the Cassini web server). Occasionally an exception will occur in my application. I cannot narrow down where the exception is occuring because VS.NET says "no source code is available for this location" (or similar). Why is VS.NET not available to debug all parts of the application? It seems that I also can't set breakpoints in the other projects - they are just ignored. All my projects are set for debug build and PDB files are generated when I compile. Could it be because parts of the code are executing in a separate thread? Can VS.NET not debug multi-threaded applications?     - Wrong DialogResult values I have defined a base form for all dialogs in my application. For some unknown reason, when I'm calling the ShowDialog method on my dialog forms (which ared derived from the base class) I keep getting the Cancel value for the DialogResult property (and return value of the method) no matter what button I clicked.     - MouseMove not fired after control re-position! Hi I've implemented a custom control that forms part of a video timeline (like the slider in WMP). This control represents a marker that I can place on the timeline to indicate an event within the video. I can move (drag) these markers left and right along the timeline to re-position the event. I have a tooltip that that gets activated when the user positions the mouse over one of these markers which displays the marker's current time. It updates dynamically when I drag the marker left and right... no problems so far. My problem is that the tooltip disappears when the drag slows to a stop and the mouse becomes still. When I release the mouse button the tooltip pops up again fine. So it's fine when the mouse is over the marker, fine when the mouse is down (both at the start of the move operation and during the move), but it disappears when the mouse stops moving and before the mouse button is released. When the tooltip has disappeared it does not return until I release the mouse button, even if I move the mouse again! It's as though MouseMove is not being fired just because the mouse is still down and it has become still! This is bad for my application as I want my users to be able to drag the markers to a new time, stop, check the time on the tooltip and re-position if necessary. I am setting the tooltip text on the control's MouseMove event. My tooltip has the following properties: AutomaticDelay = 0; AutoPopDelay = 300000; InitialDelay = 0; ReshowDelay = 200; ShowAlways = true; It would be nice to know the way that events are fired for the sequence: 1. MouseEnter 2. MouseDown 3. MouseMove [which moves the control] 4. [Mouse becomes still] 5. [Mouse moves again - but no MouseMove event] 6. MouseUp Anyone seen this before? Any thoughts on this?     - PRB with UserControl and OBJECT/HTML/CLASSID I have a simple "Hello World" UserControl I wrote with VS.NET 2003 (C#). I added a method called "Hello" to return a string "Hello". I made a virtual directory that allows Script (and only script), and put the DLL on it, and then made a simple HTML file that uses an OBJECT tag to deply the DLL, where it has script to run the UserControl as show hereafter. But it does not run, saying the OBJECT does not have the method. Now I've done UserControls before, and barring the trick that IIS must be setup to run "SCRIPT ONLY", there were no problems.     - How to allow app to interact with desktop I have a VB.Net windows application that has a system tray icon as the only interface to the app. The system tray icon is visible if the app is executed via the logged in user. However, when I schedule the app to be launched by a SQL job the system tray icon is not visible. I have a system tray app that makes visible a windows form based on a
timer. I want to override the timer and not have the windows form pop
up if a user is in full-screen mode, i.e. a Powerpoint Presentation or
a full-screen video. Does anybody know how my application might detect
when the user is in full-screen video mode? Other popular windows
programs do this effectively, like the Outlook incomming message pop-up
and Instant Messenger. Thanks in advance.
