    - Access 2000 Data Transfer I am writing an application using VB.Net 2003 and MS Access 2003. I have two database having one table in each database with the exact same table structure (TableA: FN, LN, Address, City etc..). The data in tablesA of first database (db1) has already been populated while the second database (db2) is empty. How do I write code in VB that will transfer TableA data from db1 to db2?     - 3rd try:Minimizing modal form does not minimize it's owner in some cases This is the 3rd time I post this problem, previous attempts unfortunatelly remained without any answer. I think the problem itself is important enough to solve, so I try once again: I have a main application form. (mainForm) I show a modal dialog passing the main form as the the parameter "owner" like this: dialogForm.ShowDialog( mainForm ); In my development environment when I minimize the modal dialog, the mainForm is minimized too, correctly. However in the production environment, the same executable behaves erratic: When the user minimizes the modal dialog, the mainForm is not minimized, and it is still on the screen. The other difference that the modal for is minimized not to the taskbar, but the left bottom of the desktop area, as a small rectangle. As anyone can imagine the effect is terrible: The main form does not react any user interaction but beeps, and the user reports: The application is freezed. Development Env: XP Prof. SP2 English, .NET Framework 1.1 SP1 Production env 1: XP Prof SP2, Hungarian, .NET Framework 1.1 SP1 other Production env 2: Windows 2003 Server SP?, English, .NET Framework 1.1 SP1 The application was installed with the VS.NET 2003 generated Setup.     - strange complation issue I want to be able to call my forms from all over in my application, usually that is easy to do, but I am running into this. One form I can add in my #include header, and in my button click event it will allow me to declare a reference to it, and even intellisense picks it up, but upon compilation, the statements error out. Anyone run into this? This only happens with this one particular form. The app is being done in vc++.net if that matters. Thanks for any help.     - Click Event problem Hi [ Using C# in .Net 1.1 ] I have a usercontrol with a number of nested controls (listviews, etc... ). When the user clicks *anywhere* on the usercontrol I want the event to be handled by the usercontrol. At the moment if I click on the listbox, then the listbox grabs that click and it is not seen by the usercontrol. Is it possible to easily make the listboxes not grab the click ( I know I could forward the click on, but this would mean I would need to make every control on my form handle this which would be a pain ), so that I can have a single event handler in my usercontrol ?? regards, Rich.     - WinForms Designer Prob: Change control Location at design time Hi, I am implementing a windows form designer that is based upon the designer sample from microsoft (http://support.microsoft.com/?id=813808). The problem that I have is that i would like to change the size and location of a certain control when I drop it on the form. In the IContainer.Add method of the DesignerHost I am able to change the size of the control that is to be added but I am unable to change the location of it, e.g. set it to the top.     - Prevent user from changin page Visual Studio 2003 .Net, C# windows based: I have a tab control on my main page, on the first page is a datagrid displaying records, on the second page is a detail page showing the record details for the record selected on the first page. The second page is for adding and updating the records displayed on the first. Once in add/update mode, I dont want the user to be able to change the page. I am new to the world of .Net, so I am not sure waht can and cant be done. In my previous language I could disable and enable the tab pages, is this possible here?     - menu shortcuts Hi I have an app with datagrids in it. Although you can directly cut, paste, etc elements from the grid using Ctrl-C and the like, I would like to provide the standard Edit menu of most Windows programs. The Cut, Copy, Paste and Select All menu options will perform the expected operation on the data grid. I have tried implementing this by focusing on the datagrid, and sending the shortcut keys for the operation using the SendKeys method. For example, this subroutine is called when the Cut menu option is clicked Public Sub Cut() myDataGrid.Focus() SendKeys.Send("^x") End Sub Alas, this doesn't work. The very first time I select a menu item, it freezes the program. Pressing Ctrl-Alt-Del unfreezes it, and then any other menu selection performed after this will not freeze the program, but it still does nothing.     - Windows Form Application - Always on Top and other stuff Does anyone know how to make a Windows Form based application be optionally always on top? Also, I need to remove everything except a single text box which I want to make available from any application by poping it on top via a hotkey. The two addresses are always the same. After closing error message window, a second error message window appears. It says - programName has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program. An error log is being created. The log file is a huge binary file. No exception gets written to the console. No difference if try/catch included or not. When I ran the test program under Windows 2000, it crashed on the first time I tried to display the FolderBrowserDialog (Ctl-S) 4 times out of 10 times. The times it did not crash, if I kept bringing up the FolderBrowserDialog, it always eventually crashed. I ran the tests immediately after rebooting the computer. No other problems with the computer, and I have executed lots of other .net stuff without any such crashes. The test program has not crashed on my Windows XP computer. The Windows 2000 computer says Version 5.00.2195 The Windows XP computer says Version 5.1.2600 *** Has this problem been reported before? *** Anyone know the cause? *** Anything wrong in source code that might cause crash? *** Any suggestions how to track down what is happening? *** Does this program crash on other people's Windows 2000 computer? Since I have not found any other reports of this problem, maybe there is something different about my computer, but as far as I know it is plain vanilla. Can readers test on their Windows 2000 PC? *** Is there a way to make the FolderBrowserDialog work on Windows 2000? If not, is there an alternative suggested way for selecting a directory? If this is a known problem with .NET on Windows 2000, please do not suggest users upgrade to XP. As far as I can tell, FolderBrowserDialog is advertised to work. And I think it is the responsibility of Microsoft to write software that does not crash, not customer's responsibility to buy something new in the hopes they will get it right this time. If there is a official statement somewhere from Microsoft that FolderBrowserDialog does not work on Windows 2000, I'd be interested to know.     - How to save data to datasource on click on the pencil Hello, I'm trying to allow saving data to datasource when user clicks on the "edited" pencil. The pencil is automatically shown by the datagrid when given row is edited and it is hidden when user clicks on it, so it looks like an obvious why to trigger saving modified data.     - Analyze https page activity Hello group I have a winforms client application. The customer now wants to have access to information that is on a web page via https. We have all the necessary account and password, but the problem is when we need to confirm some data, the user have to leave his application go to the web site enter the password and read the result and then confirm the information. What I want to do is all the manual steps of getting to the web site and get the information at run time from the main application. The main application is a c# winform, I have some classes to get the response from a http but the page have a button and I don't know how to analyze what is happening. Is there a way to analyze what is doing when the user click the bottom from the web page, and of couse the way to simulate that action from the main application. It's obvious that I don't have any experience with http protocol, and sorry for my English to.     - print button on printpreview dialog I just added a print and printpreview capability to my app. It's printing a nasty datagrid with hidden columns that may be filtered and sorted. Everything seems to work, but I'm having trouble with printing from the printpreview form. The preview looks right, I get the right number of pages, and the lines look right, but there is no text.     - winforms weirdness with context menu mouse up I'm seeing some weird business going on and I'm wondering if there's an easy workaround or if I have to go into hack mode. In non-winforms apps you must have a right mouse down followed by a right mouse up in order to get a context menu. One specific example is the tool bar which brings up the standard (Restore,Move,Size,Maximize,Close) context menu. However, it seems in winforms you only need a mouse up. Now in the control I'm creating I capture the mouse on mousedown and do seperate actions on mouse move depending on whether the right or left mouse buttons are depressed. But when I've pressed the right button, capturing the mouse, and then released over the toolbar(in order to release control) I get the context menu popping up. Oddly enough, after dismiss the context menu the mouseup event for my control fires. Obviously this is not the behavior I want. Seems weird the winforms team decided to raise context on mouseup alone. But fine. Do I have any options besides installing a message filter?     - ShowDialog, SEHException and Timer control I know the SEHException when calling ShowDialog is quite a common problem, generally associated with EnableVisualStyles, but I've just been having a problem with it, and I'd already added the DoEvents call before Application.Run, so it wasn't that. I'm working on an application which uses a timer to poll a database at regular intervals. There is also an override button to force an immediate check. When a dialog box was shown from the Timer control's Tick event, I got the SEHException, but when it was shown from the manual override, I didn't. Strange, thought I. As an experiment, I replaced the System.Windows.Forms.Timer control with a System.Timers.Timer object, and the problem went away. I post this in the hope that it might help others in the future.     - VB.NET problems displaying custom dialog box I added a form to my project to use as a dialog box. The form is simple, 2 text boxes, 1 checkbox, 3 labels and 2 buttons. It will eventually allow a user to reset a password, but I haven't added the functionality yet. I have the dialog created when the user selects Tools - Reset Password from my main menu control. When Reset Password is clicked I execute: Dim frmResetPassword As New ResetPassword frmResetPassword.ShowDialog() Where ResetPassword is the name of the new form. When launched it's generating an error: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. The error is generated from an unknown module. Now here is where it gets weird. If I add a button to the form and run it again I don't get an error. I don't put code behind the button or change anything else (I still execute from the menu item), I just add it to the form.     - How to get rid of scrollbars in datagrid? I have windows form with datagrid control. I don't want the datagrid control to display vertical and horizontal scrollbars. I wonder whether there is a way to get rid of scrollbars without deriving my own class from System::Windows::Forms::DataGrid?     - PropertyChangedEvent I read this article called "Windows Forms Data Binding and Objects" by Rockford Lhotka wich in an MSDN article. It makes a custom class that can be bound to. If a value in the class changes from code or an other control it needs to be updated in all bound controls. ThatÂ´s where the PropertyChanged event comes in. The article says that de bindingmanager listens for those events. Now, the sample code (I didnÂ´t run it) is in VB.Net. I would like to do the same thing in C#. And guess what, it doesnÂ´t work.     - ListBox component and underlying Items objects Hello, I've run into a brick wall in working with a standard ListBox. I'm loading lightweight objects into a ListBox component - call them Elements. The Element class has an ElementName property and an overridden ToString() method that displays the ElementName. When I load Elements into my list box Items collection, the ElementName displays and all is well. My problem occurs when I change an ElementName property programatically. The underlying Element does indeed change, but I can't get the text displayed the list box to reflect it! I can delete and re-add the Element and the change will show up, but neither ListBox.Update() nor ListBox.Refresh() change it. I've considered a custom draw method (which I may have to implement anyway). But is there another way of changing the text I'm overlooking?     - Is "colspan" in ListView possible? I am working with MS Visual studio C#.net, .net framework 1.1. Do you have an idea, how can I use the ListView (details display mode), that it does similarly as an html table do? Or there is a better container which would fit my needs? What I need in the ListView is: 1. Above some subitems, a common header should appear (above the actual column headers). 2. In some rows I don't have all details (texts for all subitems), but instead I have a commentary, common for some subitems. So, I would need a kind of "colspan" in a table.     - How? Using a custom TypeConverter in custom grid column style. I have bound a grid column to an enumeration data type. I derive from DataGridTextBoxColumn and override GetColumnValueAtRow and call a function I wrote to convert the enumeration value to a descriptive text for display in the grid cell. This works well. Even though the grid is not editable, and the column is readonly, when one clicks on the cell I get a type conversion exception. Looking at the stack I see Edit calls GetText which uses an "EnumConverter" to convert the descriptive text to an int32, which ultimately tries to parse the descriptive as an int32, and of course fails. I see that DataGridTextBoxColumn has a PRIVATE type converter member. I am seeking any pointers to examples, or samples, or explanations of how to intercede the conversion of the descriptive back to an enumerated value for my custom column type. I think I need to implement a type converter, but I don't see how to tie it in. Or even just to know "it can't be done" would be helpful.     - No Touch Deployment and web server authentication Our app is No Touched Deployed from a web server. We leave the default Anonymous Access set on the web site. So far, 4+ client installs, no problems. I did an install on a client's web server last week, leaving Anonymous Access checked. I did some tests, all worked fine. Today, the app is crashing. I asked the client what's different on the web server. Per the client they can't leave anonymous access enabled so they unchecked it. So, now I am seeing 401 Returns Codes in the IIS log file for our files. How do folks work around this? It's a 2000 server box so this client cannot create another web site.     - WinForms and AppDomains I have an application where I'd like to be able to run multiple instances of a Windows forms application. Due to a heavy hit in our application startup code it would be beneficial to be able to have a single process with multiple instances of the form. Additionally, it would be useful to be able to partition off each instance in it's own application domain. The current plan is for a module to handle starting a new thread which will fire up a new app domain and then load the form. This module will also handle firing up any new instances by creating a new thread and application domain. My concern is any issues surrounding the UI thread. I'm aware that only the thread that calls Application.Run should access any of the UI components. Typically you would only have one per process. In my situation I'll end up with multiple UI threads. However, each application domain will only have a single UI thread and only this thread will access any UI components.     - Change value in bound ctrl when value of another bound ctrl change I have been developing WinForms apps in .NET for several years and have never discovered a good solution to this newbish problem. I frequently encounter a situation where I want to change the value of a control when the user changes the value of some other control and both controls are bound to the same row in a DataTable. For example, say I have a combobox of statuses and a textbox for comments but comments are not applicable for certain statuses. When the user selects one of these statuses I want to set the text of the textbox to an empty string. So I add a handler to the combobox's SelectedValueChanged event and set the TextBox's Text property to an empty string. Doing this seems to cause unpredictable behavior. Sometimes I get an empty textbox but the combobox is changed back to its original value and other times the textbox is not cleared. I assume one change gets pushed to the dataset and triggers a refresh of the controls from the dataset but I'm not really sure. I have worked around this by clearing the textbox when the combobox loses focus but users are never happy with this solution. Try as I might to have the DataGrid receive focus when the MDI child Form is displayed, the PropertyGrid always grabs it. But some of those columns do not allow null. (On 21 March I posted the following query. Not only did I not collect any
replies, I can't even find the original note in this group. So here goes
again.)

I have seen this problem posed several times in these newsgroups but I have
not seen a solution!
I am hosting a PropertyGrid in a dialog in a runtime application and giving
it one of my application objects. I am subscribing to PropertyValueChanged
and using it to know when to save the state of my object. One of the
object's properties is a Stringcollection for which the PropertyGrid invokes
the default colleciton editor.

The problem is that changing the collection contents in the collection
editor does not cause the property grid to raise PropertyValueChanged for
the collection property, and I have no way to know the property has changed
and I must take appropriate action.

This is a show-stopper problem for us. Has anyone found a solution?
