    - Extender Provider I want implement an Extender Provider in my form that stores an object, implemented in a class, that stores n properties(string, integer...). I would like edit every properties at design mode too, in the same way of size property, location property etc, in order to extend my form' s controls with custom properties my application need to work, without develop customized controls. I' m looking for sample code... I found only code with Extender Provider that stores a string value...     - ListBox, DataReader, ID and Description I would like using a DataReader to fille a listbox with descriptions, on the other hand i need to store somwhere an ID (to the respective Descriptions), that i can use as a key when a listbox item has ben selected. I know i can use a second invisible listbox that stores the ID's in it, but are there alternatives to solve this problem (with a DataReader) more elegant? Maybe using the Tag property?     - Proper way to change bound form when biz object changes rec I have an app written in vb.net 1.1 and am learning how to bind the form's controls to its business class properties. The business class is not an item in a list of business objects, but rather each record is retrieved separately from the database. I've seen lots of examples of updating the controls on the form when the datasourse is a list, but in this case its just a single instance of a business class which may fetch a different record from the database and populate its properties with the value from this fetched record. I want to know the most proper way of having the bound controls in form refresh with these new values. I figured out a way, but it seems like a hack.     - ShowDialog and Thread Hi, A probably trivial question but i can't figure out the answer myself. When you call ShowDialog() on a Form to display it modaly, the code located after the ShowDialog call is not executed until the Form is closed. So it looks like the thread in which the form runs is frozen or asleep. Of course, it is not as the form still processes events and you can call mehtods from this Form, etc. So what really happens when you call ShowDialog? How come the code after it is not immediately executed? If the ShowDialog method was just waiting for the form to be closed, the UI thread would be frozen which is not the case.     - PasswordChar on TextBox in DataGridTextBoxColumn I have used PasswordChar on a TextBox that is on a form and it works great. You see * instead of the password and you can't cut or copy the password out. It doesn't work as well for a DataGrid. If you want to look a list of users it would be the natural thing to want to hide the password. The setup seems to indicate you can set the PasswordChar propery even on a TextBox in the DataGridTextBoxControl so I assumed it would be ok. When you go to edit the value for that column it will show up as the character you provided and it won't let you cut the value out...but it will let you copy it...that is unless you use the context menu to do it. Is this a known problem? Will it be fixed in the next release? What do I do? Also...this isn't as big of a problem because I have the columnstyle overridden and I was able to fix this myself...the chosen character only masks the value when you are trying to edit it.     - Is it possible to enable/disable scripting in IE programmatically? I am using the embedded ActiveX IE WebBrowser component in my C# application. I want to be able to Enable/Disable javascripting programmatically. I was wondering if there was a way to achieve this? I was hoping maybe there was a registery entry I could modify directly. Isn't it strange? Also these programs are taking the snapshot of other windows based application. I am able to take the snapshot of my application (which is not visible to above programs) using "PrintScreen" and pasting it in the paint.Also I am able to take the snapshots of some of the forms of application (using above 4 programs), which have a label to display the message and some background image setup at runtime. Let me tell you that my windows application uses the skins which can be changed dynamically using XML and there are few background images setup at runtime for the forms. I think that the problem is because of some property of the application or windows form. I believe that I have described the problem well enough to understand. Now the ball is in your court.     - How can I catch the bool values changing in a DataGridBoolColumn? I have datagrid with 5 items. Out of which 1 items is checkboxe. The bool column(checkbox column ) in added in datagrid. The rest of Data is binded dynamically to the datagrid Based on some values from the database I have to check or uncheck the checkbox in the datatgrid.i have done Till check or uncheck the checkbox at runtime in datgrid.     - Crystal Reports SetDataSource Method takes a long time! I've been developing a VB .NET Windows Form app that utilizes the built-in Crystal Report Viewer. When I create typed instances of my report document and my ADO.NET dataset and then apply the dataset to the report document, it takes up to 5 minutes to process the single line of code. Here's a code example: Dim rpt As New TypedReportDocument Dim ds As New TypedDataSet ' this next line takes up to five minute to process! rpt.SetDataSource(ds) Some other information: the dataset has approx. 20 tables without any built-in constraints or links. It's just a simple definition of the data. My only thought is when you apply the dataset to the report document, the report document is going through the entire linking process to link the tables together. Perhaps if I link the data tables in the dataset in the dataset designer, I can cut the execution time down. Any other ideas? Or has someone found a solution to this problem? Thanks in advance!     - How to specify width of each of the columns of a DataGrid? I am feeding a class as the DataSource of the DataGrid. When the processing is done this data grid then displays the data in four columns. Now, I know you can specify table styles for a data grid, but what about being able to specify the width of each and every one of the columns of the datagrid rather than as a whole (same width for all columns which is easy)?     - Forms in Class Libraries - Beginners Question Hi I am just beginning learning Dot Net, though I am a fairly experienced VB6 traditional developer. I have a Solution which contains of libraries of classes which I want to reuse widely in multiple projects , including some forms which I want to inherit.     - OpenDialogBox.ReadOnlyChecked has a weird behavior The ReadOnlyChecked property of the OpenDialogBox class does not always report the correct value. If I select more than one file, the ReadOnlyChecked property reports that it is checked even if it is not. There is one except to this weird behavior which is if I select one file and uncheck the "Open as read-only" checkbox then all subsequent calls to ShowDialog will work correctly.     - Get bitmap from clipboard problem I have a program where I'm copying a bitmap from the clipboard and displaying it. It seems that after I perform this operation a few times (3-4) even after confirming there is bitmap data on the clipboard {if (iData.GetDataPresent(DataFormats.Bitmap))} when I get the data it returns null. I have made a simple test case in MSVC.NET File->New->Project->Windows Application. Afterwards it will be null. I can only imagine that there is some sort of resource limit I'm coming up against (This is my first C# project). What I am after is the following: Form1 instantiates Form2 using SHOW, which is always on top. Form2 is a clipboard, where the user can copy and paste information into it and into Form3 which will filled with Textboxes. In Form2 (The clipboard) there is a button that says "Send Data To Form3". Background Info: Form1 has a button that say's "Add New Data". When the "Add New Data" button is clicked, From3 is displayed using SHOWDIALOG. Here the user can add new data to a database. When Form2's button is clicked ("Send Data To Form3"), I need Form3 to be displayed using SHOWDIALOG so that only one instance of the form is being used at a time.     - Print Preview Prints Blank pages.... Hi Im trying to print out contents of a panel. I use the Graphics object to draw what I want to print and the print preview displays everything OK but when I print the contents the printer prints out blank page? here is a little description what this class does; I have a Panel that consists of other panels. Each of the inner panels consists of other controls that I have to print out. I create an enumerator to print the panels in reverse order. here is my code.. most of it I found on the net...     - Form Inheritance and missing controls Ok, I know this is going to sound odd but this is what I am seeing. I have a form inheritance chain that looks like this: baseform --> childform -- > two seperate endforms (endform1, endform2) When I open the designer for childform I only see the controls that were laid out in baseform. When I open either endforms I only see what was defined in baseform + childform. Attaching to the vs process and attempting to debug into InitializeComponent when opening the designer for endform1, it never hits the breakpoints in endform1 even in the constructor. It does however hit the breakpoints in childform's constructor. So essentially I now have a bunch of forms that I cannot edit in the designer. Does anyone have any clue as to what is going on?     - Serial Communications - Threading I have written an winform application (c#) that uses serial communication to transmit and receive data to a device that users respond to by pressing various proximity sensors. The data is transmitted and received correctly and all works well. A part of the application is to flash LEDs on the device when the it has not been used for some while, in the meantime the UI goes into a form of a Screen Saver. The device then waits for a sensor to be touched and if so, then returns into life. Unfortunately, when i transmitt the commands to flash the LEDs the application hangs until the transmitt has completed and as it transmits upto 10 flashes, this is very slow (app does not respond until transmits are complete). Can anyone reccommend a method for transmitting (perhaps on a thread) and not having to wait for the transmitt to complete i.e. so that UI does not freeze. I have almost everything done except for one part. I need to allow the user to move the window by clicking and dragging anywhere in the window (the window has no title bar.) I have found that when I do this, I don't get any of my form's mouse events. I am doing a lot of hand-work here, so I have MouseEnter, MouseLeave, and MouseDown events coded. These perform various functions that simulate functionality I would normally get by using controls (buttons, linklabels, etc.) but chose not to use. My reasons for not using them is because of the functionality I am trying to simulate: 1. The form fades in to 20% transparency when it's shown. It then begins a timer for fade-out (time set by the user, with an application default provided.) 2. If the mouse moves into the form, it goes to 0% transparency (opaque). 3. If the mouse leaves the form, it returns to 20% transparency. 4. The form will fade away at the first opportunity - either when reaching the fade-out time, or when the mouse leaves the form, whichever happens *last*. Using controls caused MouseEnter and MouseLeave events to fire on the controls and form multiple all over the place, and I wasn't able to handle them in any sort of satisfactory way. So I dumped the controls and wrote it all by hand. Since I don't get the mouse events, nothing happens when the mouse moves within the form. The form does not go opaque, and the fade-out will happen even if the mouse is within the form. I suppose I could re-create the functionality within the WndProc() method, but I don't understand why I have to - since my custom WndProc() is not trapping mouse events, and the first thing I do is call the base method, those should still fire - right?     - Forms pseudo MDI support While trying to implement a MDI Application I found that the Windows.Forms classes that implement this functionality don't actually use the WIN32 MDI API. Using Spy++ I found that the MdiClient class does not use the 'MDICLIENT' window class. Wie kann ich dem Feld UKID einen Wert im Code zuweisen, damit ein neuer Satz im DATAGRID akzeptiert wird?     - Control layout problem with system large fonts I have seen many people stating that they have the same problem. I have the font DPI setting set to 125% normal size (from the Display Properties dialog when you right-click on the Desktop). If a Windows Form is more than simle (has many controls), then the most chance is that when the Form is shown in runtime, the layout is somewhat in right condition (Some controls might position beyond the visible client area). I am not sure if Microsoft noticed this problem. I think it is a very *BAD* problem, based on that Microsoft/Windows have been strong in user friendly GUI since their beginning. My $0.02. If the clipboard is double clicked, another window is displayed, the event is handled inside the main app. What I would like to do is have the clipboard use the main thread of the application that called it to handle the new window. Basically, I want to make a textbox automagically adjust it's height to show all the text it contains. So, if I add text then it grows, and it shrinks if I remove text. Hi,

I have this nasty problem with richtextbox control. I use one in my
program which is a kind of chat program. When i minimize my window and
add a text to the richtextbox control, when i restore the windows, the
control is blank. I have to manualy scroll or resize the control to
make it show the content. It's the pretty a weired thing. Hope someone
can help before i go crazy.

I use VS 2003 with .NET Framework 1.1
