    - override maximize event I'm looking to execute a function when the Max button is clicked. I'd like to override the maximize event on an MDI child form so that instead of maximizing, it just fills the MDI area. I've found the code to max the form to the mdi size, but no luck on how to execute my function on the Max button click. I've been looking for a solution, but still no luck.     - FontDialog Only Allows Integrals? I've noticed that the FontDialog only allows positive integers as input when you show the dialog. Is there some reason for this? The font that it returns allows singles and I can't really find anywhere that explains why this might be. We're writing our own FontDialog (due to some other limitations), and we're trying to find out if there is a practical reason for this or if we should allow any positive decimal number. Thanks.     - Help with form.treeview control? Using C# I want to know if it is possible to limit the user to only being able to see the path of the current node. In other words I dont wan't the user to be able to see any expanded stuff that isn't part of the path of the selected node. So I need some kind of function that will CollapseAll() except the part of the tree the user is currently working with...     - drilling down in a datagrid I have a datagrid with a dataset as its datasource. Its datamember is a table that has 3 datarelations defined in the dataset. I would like to capture the click event on the plus sign to avoid allowing the user to select which datarelation to use to view child records. Can I do this without subclassing the datagrid? If not, what is the best way to grab onto the plus-sign click (since datagrid.hittestinfo doesn't distinguish the plus-sign click from any other rowheader click)?     - Detecting application close hi, A friend is configuring windows in a way that he's not using explorer shell, he's using something else (I hope I wrot this corectlly :) ).     - Transparent controls on UserControl Hi all, I have a variety of controls that I'm adding to my UserControl.Controls. I want to have them and all their contained controls to be support transparency. I've overridden my UserControl's OnPaint event - but the graphic I paint only shows up if I set each individual control's backcolor to Transparent. Is there another way of doing this.     - Unhandled exception ignored? In the simplified code below, shouldn't the thrown exception cause the app to terminate since it is unhandled? It doesn't seem to do anything in Debug or Release mode. I do get a first-chance exception message in the debugger but that's it.     - Bug in SaveFileDialog Hello there, I found a bug using SaveFileDialog and I was not able to find any similar issue on the web. This seems to apply to any .NET Applications using SaveFileDialog. To perform the bug: 1. Open a SaveFileDialog and save any File, e.g. TestDocument0.txt: This should create a document named TestDocument0.txt 2. Call once again the SaveFileDialog, select the TestDocument0.txt you created in the File Window: The name of the File appears in the Text Box, left of the "Open" Button. (Notice, the Selected File is still grayed in the File Window) 3. Rename the Text in this Text Box, e.g. TestDocument1.txt: (Notice, the Selected File is still grayed in the File Window) 4. Click in the File Window, but not on a folder or a file. The previously selected File is not grayed anymore, the focus is set on nothing. 5. Press the "Save" Button, you will get the following Waning: "File TestDocument0.txt already exists. Do you want to replace it" The error is obvious, it should save my file as TestDocument1.txt, and not TestDocument0.txt, as it appears on the Text Box. Could you reproduce such strange behaviour?     - usercontrol with readonly property that can be set at design time Can someone tell me if it's possible to create a property for a usercontrol, that is essentially readonly, but able to be set via the designer before runtime? I have a property for a control that I want to set essentially one time. This property is basically a static property that can change at the developer's wish, but only one time. I need to be able to reference the property later. I've tried setting the property to readonly, but that hides it from the designer properties window. I've tried various attributes to no avail (i.e. DesignOnly(true)). When I do this, I cannot set the property at design time(the value doesn't hold).     - Accelerator keys broken in Winforms I'm having a problem with accelerator keys (also sometimes refered to as shortcut keys or mnemonics) on Winforms. To reproduce, simply do this: 1. create a new C# "Windows Application" project (I'm using VS2005) 2. Add a button to the form and change its default Text from "button1" to "&button1" Now run the app. Press the alt key on the keyboard and the keyboard cue is displayed (the 'b' becomes underlined) as it should. Press the alt key again and the underline does not go away. You will also notice that pressing the 'b' key fires the button's click event regardless of whether the alt key was ever pressed, or whether the cue is visible. Surely this isn't "by design" (Menus don't work this way! OS supplied dialogs don't work this way!) Any pertinent suggestions on how to work around this would be welcome.     - Smart Client Deployment I hope this is an easy question to answer. In developing a smart client application, I'm lead to beleive that only assemblies that have changed get updated during the next time the application runs. But if you have a assembly that is referneced by other assemblies, don't they need to get recompiled which changes there version which in return everything needs to get downloaded again.     - Getting Icon of Files All - How can I get an icon associated with a particular file extension and then get the icon displayed in a picturebox? I have an app with a picturebox. The picturebox displays pictures and other files stored in SQL. If the SQL data is an image, it displays the image but if it is, say a word doc, it displays an image I created that says "Not an Image". I would like to display the icon associated with the particular file type inspectead. So, when a user adds a word doc, the icon is shown in the picturebox or adobe or whatever else the user might save to the database.     - hiding form from alt-tab In the 1.1 version of the framework setting ShowInTaskbar to false and FormBorderStyle to none was enough to stop a form from showing up in the alt-tab list.     - How to create responsive drag and drop experience even if lots of processing is required I have a winforms application that can encrypt and unencrypt files. I want to support drag and drop files out to Windows Explorer. In my current version I unencrypt my files in the MyListview_ItemDrag Event, build an array of files and call DoDragDrop() with DataFormats.FileDrop. This works, but I'm concerned about this architecture. If a user starts to drag several files from my listView and all of these files are really BIG. It can take some time to unencrypt these files and place them in a directory. Meanwhile the application thread is busy and the application seems unresponsive to the user. As far as I know, no DragDrop-like Event will trigger in my code when I drop in an external app like Explorer. So is there no way to postpone the time-consuming part (unencrypting files) to the DragDrop part when the user releases the mouse button?? I hope I'm wrong. Any tips, suggestions?     - Null reference issue Hi, I am creating a multi-winform project. Everything has been working fine, except after I perform an update to the database and decide to Exit the winform after the update operation is complete. I have error handling in my code but not on the dispose method. I call the dispose method exiting the application using the code below but results in this error message "An unhandled exception of type 'System.NullReferenceException' occurred in system.management.dll Additional information: Object reference not set to an instance of an object."     - User control life cycle in VS2005 editor Hi, Can someone tell me what is the user control life cycle when its dropped in to a visual studio designer? I mean, I have a new windows application project created in visual studio 2005 and a new form added. Now I create a new user control extending it from UserControl. Add few properties in user control and few events. Now when I drop this user control in form, i want to know what designer does to display it on the form and what event's would be fired and which events wouldn't fire . Reason of asking such question is, I have a user control and when i drop it on a form, it fires its load event and I was under impression, it would not fire load event when control is in design mode. It must fire it when its in RunMode. I do check DesignMode property but it seems like its not giving me right value.     - Wizard generated code doesn't display data from database. I am sure this is an FAQ but I could not find it and I was wondering if someone could help me. I wanted to quickly generated a view of a couple of tables in our database. I pulled up the wizard and generated a couple of data sets and data adapters. The wizard inserted for the DataGridView the following code: Me.AmazonOutbound2TableAdapter.Fill(Me.TestServiceBusDataSet.AmazonOutbound2) I look at the dataset and the dataset is indeed getting populated (I stepped into the debugger and examined the data after this line was executed). The problem is that the data grid view does not show the data. How do I make the data grid view show this data? Also I would like to display only a subset of the data maybe by adding a where-clause constraining the data returned by one of the column values. I see a command set but it seems to be read only.     - Resizing a form to shrink or grow according to the controls that are added Hi all, I realize this should be obvious, but I don't know what I'm not doing. I have a form to which I add a variable number of controls. All I need the form to do is to shrink or grow according to the size of the controls added. I suppose I could manually calculate the dimensions that the controls occupy and then manually set the Form's dimensions. But there has to be a more automatic way - I thought the AutoScale property being true would handle this, but I think that only scales the controls as the Form is resized - not vice-versa. You should have a page footer section in the report designer, insert a "special
field" named "Page N of M".
