    - CRYSTAL REPORTS VIEWER - URL REMOTING HELLO THERE. I have a problem with a crystal report. I hope you can help me out. I have a windows forms application that is running on a server and is invoked from client computers by using url remoting (the application assembly has been given execution permissions by using the Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Configuration tool). The application gets data from a database by mids of a web service. When it comes to generate a crystal report, if the application is launched locally (on the server machine) the crystal reports are loaded correctly, but if the application is launched from a client computer by the url (e.g. "http://192.168.10.11/MyApp.exe"), then one of the crystal reports(not all of them) shows a pop up dialog box to enter database login information such as "user name", "password", "server name" and "database name". I was debugging it, and it comes out that there is no connectivity with the crystal report object that feeds the crystal report viewer. This problem ONLY comes out when the application is launched remotely. I hope you can help me out pals. I think the problem is due to the report viewer..this object seems to love working locally...     - Drag & Drop Folder Name from Windows Explorer to a Windows Form The title says it all. What I would like to be able to do is drag a folder from Windows explorer on to a form and just capture the full path and folder name. Failing the fully qualified path, I absolutely need the folder name (which I could find by iterating throught the folder structure) All the doc I can find refers to dropping the data associated with an object - and the Help topic "Performing Drag-and-Drop Operations in Windows Forms" Has not done much for me.     - Embedding IE inside a windows form, is it any sample code? Hi all, I'd like to use html/xml/xsl for rendering views in a windows form client. I assume I should embed IE inside a windows form in order to show the form inside a MDI form. I should also capture events from the IE at the windows form level.     - ListView "small icon" display badly formatted I use the ListView. Seems like when using the view sometimes the "small icon" display the formatting gets all screwed up...I mean when items are draw across the rows, they overlap one another.     - Permission Exception for Strong Name membership but not Zone I have a WinForm control hosted in IE. I've set up a JavaScript event handler to close the window if a button in the control is clicked. I have a permission set which grants my assembly execute permission for unmanaged assemblies and I have created a Machine Code Group which uses the permissions. The problem is that if I set the membership condition on the code group to Strong Name I get a PermissionException when executing the JavaScript event handler, but if I set the permission to Zone and then set the Zone to Local Intranet the code executes and does not throw the exception.     - Date comparison in rowfilters for dataviews feeding datagrids I have a datagrid attached to a dataview attached to an SQL Server table that uses datetime columns among other types. The user gets to filter on various things in the table including the datetime columns. I'd like to be able to use the rowfilter capability of the dataview. However, I've run into t he well documented problem of the fact that datetime columns include a time and therefore can't exactly match a date. As near as I can tell there is no provision for a calling functions in rowfilters. Is that correct???? Thus as near as can tell, if you want to exactly match column dat for date 1/1/2005 regardless of the time you have to write dat>= '1/1/2005' and dat<'1/2/2005'. Is this correct????     - Offered functions of the run32.dll Hi guys I would like to play a little bit with the system menu of a window. I found already code that allows me to add items to the system menu. It uses a function from the run32.dll. I am sure that there are other interesting functions but I really do not know where to search for it.     - Instanciate reflected form without constructor... I need to scan a directory full of .net assemblies and list all Form subclasses found in a grid. This part is easy using reflection. I then need to allow the user to double click and modally display the form. Obviously I wouldn't expect anything to actually work; I just want it to be visible. Just like what Visual Studio does when you design a form. Unfortunately I cannot guarantee that the forms have default parameter-less constructors and even if they did, I cannot guarantee that those constructors could be successfully invoked (could have some static dependencies, etc). So I can't simply instantiate them. Since the forms have been built using Visual Studio, they should all have an InitializeComponent method. What I really need to do is only invoke this. Is there an easy way to do this? If it was possible to create an AssemblyBuilder from an already compiled Assembly, then I could just add the parameter-less constructor (or remove the IL from an existing one) and disassociate all the event handlers. I'm thinking that I need to create a new in-memory form subclass and dynamically transfer the InitializeComponent IL from one to the other. How hard would this be?     - Hide Contextmenu in treeview I have a treeview with which I want to use a context menu for certain nodes to fill a memo property of the node. So when I add the nodes I set a property 'ItemNode' to either true or false. If the ItemNode is true I want the contextmenu to pop-up if not I want to prevent it from popping up.     - Custom Radio Button with Transparent Background Hi All, I have created a control that inherits from RadioButton and I have overridden it's OnPaint method. It looks great, draws the background with every color except with Color.Transparent. When I make the controls Background color transparent, it draws it black! Is there anyway to fix this?     - Help with multiple forms functionality We have a unique situation where we need to speed up the activation of our MAIN form. We have put a splash page before the main shows up and we pre-load most of our stuff (user profiles). Then we bring up the MAIN form, but we need to continue loading our other stuff (data sets, list). We want to do while inside the SPLASH, but minimize it and let the MAIN form come up as fast and quickly as possible. At this point, we'll HIDE the SPLASH page and just continue loading items in it.     - tabPage need the correct event I have an app with a tab control and on the second page of the tab control is a dataGridView control. I cannot find the correct even to sucessfully hide columns in this DGV. I've already tried the form load and activate events, and the tabPage Enter event but none are working. Strangely enough if I use the tabPage enter event, then enter the tab....then leave the tab....then enter it again, the columns are hidden.     - Copying Directories System.IO.Directory class Is there a way to copy directory contents using the System.IO.Directory class? I want to make a full copy of one folder (files and subfolders) to another folder. I'm able to move the folder using Directory.Move but that removes the files from the source folder. If I want to set a menuItem Enabled or not (e.g.: Cut, Copy, Reverse, etc.) according to whether there is selected text in a RichTextBox object (I test SelectionLength > 0 or Selected{Text||Rtf}.Length > 0 during Application.Idle event and then update the command and menuItem state), I get a problem with DBCS input: the Chinese IME doesn't work anymore, the Korean IME works letter by letter instead of composing hangul characters, and the Japanese IME works randomly. As soon as I take off the test of those Selection related properties, I can do DBCS input perfectly within RichTextBox objects. I have made the data grid table style rows deep enough so that all the text can display.     - Drag & Drop multiple from ListView I have a problem with the ListView control. I want to be able to drag and drop multiple items, much like in Windows Explorer. I can do the drag-drop fine, but the problem is the MultiSelect property. If I enable this, rather than just having Shift and Ctrl selections with the mouse, it gives me a multi-select where you drag over the list with the mouse. I don't want this. I want to disable the drag-over selection, because it interferes with my drag & drop operations. Anyone know how to do this?     - MenuItem - Am I missing something obvious? I've got a pretty standard menu at the top of my main form, and the MenuItem's have event handlers for the "Select" event to update the statusbar text, but what I can't seem to find is a way to know when the user has cancelled the menu without clicking anything so I can clear the statusbar text.     - treeviw problem Hi, I'm using Windows.Forms.TreeView control (.NET Framework 1.1). When a user select a a node from the tree, the text of the selected TreeNode object is displayed in a Bold font. The problem is that when the text is displayed in Bold font some of it dissapears. It seems as if the space allocated for the text of the TreeNode is not wide enough. I added a splitter to change the width of the TreeView control but it didn't help, the space allocated for the text remains the same and still not wide enough .     - Controls in a panel are shown in incorrect order Hi, I've got a graphical application where some child controls are rendered inside a panel. This controls are user drawn and are transparent. The transparency works OK, I've been using Bob Powell tricks (http://www.bobpowell.net/transcontrols.htm). However, there's a big problem: child controls are drawn BACKWARDS its order. For example, if I add two controls and then I execute BringToFront() in one of them, it draws behind the other, but when I click, the mouse events are fired on it (so it is really in front). You see the grid but all rows are completly blue but when you click on a column in the row you see the text that is in the row.     - Access 2002 like Combobox in .NET 2003 We are trying to rebuild a current Access 2002 (XP) mdb program to VB.NET with a SQL database - we are having problems with a suitable combobox. There are many threads discussing multiple column comboboxes in .NET. We are having success with the multiple columns similar to the combobox from Access 2002 (XP). Our biggest problem is speed. In a form in Access 2002, our combobox is able to load data in a table in separate Access database file in a fraction of a second. This table is already sorted in the proper order, and has 65,000 records (almost the limit of items in the Access combobox). For this speed test, the table consists of one field. The records are just integers counting from 1 to 65,000. The Access combobox is filled with data by setting the combobox.RowSource property to equal a SQL Select Statement: SELECT field1 FROM table1 IN 'c:\pathto\database.mde" We tried to do a similar test using the VB.NET combobox with Microsoft SQL Desktop Edition 2000. Same table as above. We tried several approaches including binding to a DataSet, binding to an array (filled the array with DataReader), and using the combobox.Items.AddRange(array). The best result we could get with the 65,000 records was to use a DataReader to fill an Array, then use the combobox.item.addrange - but this was approx. 7 seconds - still slow compared to Access, and too slow for our purpose. This 7 second was during the AddRange step, not during the looping through the DataReader to fill the Array. Filling the Array was very quick. All of our tests indicate the the slow down is getting the information into the combobox, not get the data from the database. Is there a Microsoft suggestion get a large list of data into the combobox quickly the way Access could do it? Is there a third party combobox that can work in VB.NET and load the data quickly, preferable with multiple columns? Any other suggestions? VB.NET solutions are preferable, but we do have VS.NET Pro 2003, so we can support other languages as well. Thank you for all that took the time to read this long message. The purpose of this list to allow the patient to select a client/patient from a large and growing list in a medical lab setting.     - Interthread communication? Hi, I'm fairly new to C# and .NET. I'm trying to write winforms app that simulates a piece of hardware that our company develops. The hardware behaves as a TCP server and processes commands received from clients. The winforms allows a user to change the state of the simulator, to simulate faults, state changes etc. What I've currently got is a simulator class that will run in its own thread and processes client commands. When the user makes state changes in the winform I need a method to inform the running thread that it needs to reload its internal state. I was hoping to avoid using semaphores by invoking an update method on the simulator thread, but I can't seem to find a way to do this (only from a thread pool thread). Any suggestions on a simple/elegant way of doing this? Are there standard .NET patterns that might help?
