    - Total Loss of control in VS.net 2005 code window I'm now consistently having a problem (shortly after SP1), that, heretofore, only happened once in a while. Now, I bring up the code window in VB.Net 2005 - and I loose total control - I type in a letter or two (most of the time, it's only one), and the intellisense seems to think that's all I need - the code window loses focus, sometimes thinking I'm finished, and adds parentheses at the end. Then, no matter what, I click in the code window, and I can't type in but 1 letter - then it does it again. When it first started happening, I could just shut down VS.Net - then re-open it, and it would be OK for a good while - - I'm loosing my mind with this - Does anyone have any ideas on what may be causing this?     - Help! How to embed a "windows explorer" into a form? Hi everyone, I'm working on a program contains two "Windows Explorer" in one form which allows people to copy files from one to another. I searched in CodeProject and Google but only got some messages about how to make a fake "Windows Explorer", not embedding one into a winform.     - "default" Desktop and Ctrl+Alt+Del Hello, I'm currently programming an application which is started replacing the userinit.exe. The code does the following. When the user logs on the application is creating a new desktop "newDesktop", then the original userinit is created at "newDesktop". So the shell uses "newDesktop" as its desktop, too. The same is with the other applications, that are started when the user logs on. After starting the original userinit the program creates another desktop "formDesktop" where the forms of my Desktop are displayed, while the system configuration of the logged on user is loaded in the background. In this form the user has to solve some tasks and when this is done correct the "formDesktop" closes and the "newDesktop" is set as visible Desktop and the program exits else the user will be logged off. For sure you ask why "newDesktop" for the shell process? The answer is that when the user logs on the visible desktop is "default". If I don't use "newDesktop" the user can manipulate the desktop before the form is displayed and this cannot be allowed. If the application sets the "default" desktop visible before exit the hotkeys and trayicons and so on are still registered to the "newDesktop" and not the "default" desktop, so "newDesktop" stays the user's desktop for the session. What is the problem I have? Well, the ctrl+alt+del event opens the taskmanager in the "default" desktop, thus it's invisible to the user, although the process exist. Making the long story short, here is the question: Is there a way to make the taskbar appear in the "newDesktop" when ctrl+alt+del is pressed?     - DataGridView: last column can be made smaller but not bigger Hi, I have a DataGridView control where the user can resize the columns. The control is embedded inside a Panel. When clicking on and dragging the column seperator to the right of the rightmost column, I can make the column smaller when I move it to the left. If I try to move it to the right however, my cursor is halted against the edge of the control. So the column can't be made bigger. This can be reproduced in the sample at http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/1x64c23x.aspx by clicking Customer->View Orders in the main form and doing it on the table that appears. In that sample, it is possible to make the last column bigger again by making the whole window bigger, until its length is more than the total length of the columns, creating an open space between the columns and the edge of the window. Then the right seperator of the rightmost column can be dragged freely, up until the edge of the window. However, this trick isn't practical in my own control, since the control is too small and the total column length too long.     - Datagridview and the Enter Key Hi all, I have a datagrid that doesnt allow the user to edit. When the user clicks a row, the whole row gets selected. I'd like it so that when the user has a row selected and presses enter, a new form is opened and passed data from the row. At the moment, when I press enter, I can get the window to open, but the selected row moves down one. Is there any way I can surpress this behavior when pressing enter?     - Child form focus problem Hi all, An application I am woking on consist of a main form. On the main form there are several possible ways for the user to open a non-modal child forms to display even more information. The problem I am encountering is about loss of focus. Let's say here, that initialization of the child form takes about =BD second, from the point where the window is first shown to the point where all controls have been rendered and set with data. Now, on the main form there is a datagridview which is updated on intervals. The problem occurs the user clicks a button to open a child form. The child form is created. But before initialization of the child form has finished, the DataGridView on the main form is updated. Seemingly because of this, the main form gets focus and is moved to the front, and the child form is moved to the back. The user can manually put focus on the child form again and continue working, but tuhis is a behaviour that is very anoying to the end users. Have any of you encountered something like this before? The non-modal strategy is by design. The users want to be able to go back to the main form, without closing the child form. Therefore, I'm searching primarily for any help on the focus problem, and will only use a modal child form strategy if no resolution to the problem can be found.     - Windows Form App and VPN I have some clients who have users who reside outside of the company's network. The company is going to allow remote access through a VPN on the server for access to the SQL Server database. I want to have my forms app which will run on the client machine to automatically open the VPN when the program starts and close it when the program ends. That way, the clients doesn't have to set anything up and they don't have to worry about how the data is accessed. That means, the string "Test" should stay on screen if the form is not resized/moved/covered by other windows. However, in reality, the OnPaint do the e.Graphics.Clear() automatically. I'd like to know if that is possible for me to stop that behavior. In my application, my form contains many individual text strings. The strings are updated periodically individually.     - Filtering key strokes Hi, having a card reader attached to the PS/2 keyboard interface, I would like to filter the keyboard input, so that the input from the card reader does not reach the GUI controls. I tried setting KeyPreview=true on the form and catched all input with the KeyDown event. In order to detect, if the input comes from the card reader, I need to check a sequence of at least 10 keys. So I collect the keys in KeyDown and if it's a card reader sequence, I trigger a special action for it. If it's normal user input, I need to "forward" the collected key strokes to the form. The second part is the complicated one. Having a sequence of key strokes in an array of type System.Windows.Forms.Keys, how do I resend these to the application? Sendkeys only accepts a string and seems to not support all values of the System.Windows.Forms.Keys enum. We are experiencing difficulties deploying in certain corporate environments: clients that use proxy authentification simply cannot install unless they disable the proxy which is usually not an option.     - What are my options in this Windows App? I am creating a Windows Forms app that will use SQL Server as the database. The app will be used in the following ways. 1. It will be used in the Clients office where the app will sit on the clients desktop pc and connect to the database on the server. 2. It needs to be used by those outside of the office network. ex. a remote office that is not a part of the network where the database is residing. 3. I might have users on the road that with wi-fi access need to connect to the office database. I don't want to create a browser based app using ASP.Net. I don't want to use Citrix. Here's what I think are my options. Am I missing any? which would you recommend? 1. Create a windows forms app that sits on the client and a web service that sits on the server that connects to the database. The user does something on the client and a call is made for data to the webservice which returns data to the client. 2.     - ReportViewer and Terminal Services I have an application with vb.net using reporting services local (rdlc). When I run under windows, it prints fine. When I run under Terminal Services, sometimes it takes 3 times to print. Print, and it looks like it did, but it never appears. Notepad, office apps seem to print fine. I was able to trace it. I click the Print button on the dialog box. I see the print entering the print queue, but it immediately is deleted. I print a second time, and it works. It is reproducable under terminal services.     - copying an event handler in vb.net I am using vb.net and basically I am trying to build a series of buttons at runtime based on menu entries created at design time on a ContextMenuStrip What I would like to do is make the Click event of a button created at runtime execute the same event handler as the Click event of the ToolStripMenuItem. so in pseudo code newButton.OnClick = menuItem.OnClick I wondered is this possible via reflection to get the event handlers address to use in an AddHandler call for the button, but I am not sure how to go about this.     - Prevent a window from moving when taskbar gets autohide disabled. I have a windows form that shifts position when the taskbar autohide property is disabled. The windows does not move back to the original position when the autohide property is turned back on. I have not been able to catch the position changing anywhere in my code and so I am thinking that it is taking place inside the Form class.     - DGV CellValidating event not letting new forms be focused I have a form with a DataGridView in an MDI application that handles the CellValidating event. If I set DataGridViewCellValidatingEventArgs.Cancel to true, I can't navigate off the cell within the form as expected. However, If I use the MDIParent to create a new instance if the child form, the focus remains on the error cell in the first form even with the new form in the foreground. The behavior that I would like to create here would be for the focus to remain in the error cell when that form is in focus, but for new forms to be able to be created and focused on their own.     - DataGrid Binding / Threading Slow Updates I have a VB.NET Windows Form that contains a datagrid control that uses databinding to an object. I have tried using threading and updating the databound object (by marshalling to the UI thread) by using a separate thread however there are still delays when 32000 rows / items are added. It stops other windows from responding for a brief second. I also have an animated gif on the form and that stops responding. Is is possible to have the datagrid run completely within a separate thread, or have two UI threads run in the form so that the form and animated gif is not affected when the datagrid updates?     - Validating bound text box I have a windows form (.net 2.0). On this form I have a BindingSource. I set the DataSource to a dataset that is created in code then "built" using the ReadXMLSchema method. I have have bound a textbox to one of the fields in that BindingSource that is of type int. If I type anything but an int, I cannot do anything. I cannot close the form, I cannot set focus on another control. No exception is thown. The DataError event on the BindingSource doesn't fire. The Validating event on the TextBox fires and in fact I have had to check the value so that I can raise a message if the item is not a number.     - System.Configuration.ConfigurationErrorsException saving config file after encrypting with RsaProtectedConfigurationProvider Hi, One of my users is getting a System.Configuration.ConfigurationErrorsException when my Windows Forms application tries to encrypt and save the application config file, but it only happens for him and no other users!? I don't really know anything about the security classes so don't have any idea where to start looking, but would love some suggestions. He gets the exception when running the application on other users' machines for whom it works fine, and other users are able to log in on his machine and use the application. So I'm guessing it's something to do with his profile but I have no idea where to look. He and all other users have the same .NET version; I installed it as part of the application install and noone had previous .NET runtimes on their machine. In my live application I get a standard windows box saying the program had a problem and had to be closed, do I want to send info to MS. (That's despite having set a ThreadException handler which normally logs and shows a message for all unhandled exceptions, which is slightly odd in itself.) Hi there,

While searching for answer to another question i stumbled onto a trail of
forum type posts where people were discussing MdiContainer support being
phased out. They never actually got around to saying what they replacement
model would be and i couldn;t be bother signing up for yet another website
just to get an for the question.

So im asking it here. Is MdiContainer model now not recommended practise and
if so what hsas replaced it?
