    - Determining color on initial load of TreeView I have a TreeView control where I am populating the Node list from a database. In the population routine, I am setting the backcolor and forecolor for each node. However, on the initial TreeView load, the first node is "selected" using what appears to be the default Windows "selection" color. I would like for the node that is selected to be the inverted colors that I have set (so that if a node's backcolor is red and forecolor is white, when selected it would be backcolor white and forecolor red).     - MDI Maximized children forms without controlbox I have been searching the web and everywhere I asked the= question, the answer is that it is a Microsoft Bug=2E Well instead= of telling me that it is a bug, how do I fix this? My situation: I have a parent form (frmMain), a welcome/startup (or background)= form (frmWelcome) and other child forms for data capturing=2E The= idea is that when the program runs, the welcome form is= displayed and stays displayed as a type of "background page",= displaying outstanding jobs and other system info=2E All forms, when opened, must be maximized, thus eliminating the= need for the minimize box or maximize box but still having the X= button to close the form=2E In theory this task is easy, but sure= enough it's not=2E I have created the same interface in VB6 but C#= has problems with it=2E When I load a child form, it is maximized but then the minimize= and restore bown buttons appear with the close (X) button=2E When= I click the restore down button, all the forms (including be= "background form") is reduced in size=2E How can it be that when I= set the property in code and in design time that it still shows= it?     - Binding property with CancelCurrentEdit Hi, I have a text control bound to a column that is of type Decimal. I am doing the validation myself to see if the user typed in something invalid, calling CancelCurrentEdit and cancelling the validation event. If the user typed in something that is not a number, such as 'abc', then doing this works. The old value stored in the data source is popped into the control. However, if the user typed in something that is a legal number, but outside the set of legal values as I have determined, and I try the exact same thing, the data source retains the old value, but the control is not refreshed to match the datasource. So if the user types in '11', but due to business rules this is invalid, and I would like to cancel the edit, the datasource retains it's previous value, but the input control on the screen still says '11'. What is going on here? Any ideas on how to fix this? Other then manually changing the text of the control, which I would like to avoid since it will mean reparsing the item, and committing it as a change to the row - when in fact no change took place.     - New to WindowsForms Hi I am learning windows fomrs and started with the sample in the quickstart tutorials and I am not able to display the control on my aspx page. I created a control library with one simple control having a panel and a button. panel's visible property is false by default and I added color to panel. On the button press event , I set the visible property of the panel to true to show the panel. This control is created as test1.dll and then added to a web application and added to aspx page as an object and calling with the classid property to display the control. I have also set the objects property "VIEWASTEXT' . The problem is that the aspx page does show the placeholder but does nto display the control. what am I doing wrong?     - RichTextBox hi, In VB6 we usedt to have property called selBold,selItalic etc on RichTextBox.In .NET , we no longer have such properties . Setting SelBold etc to true/false did all our work. How can we achieve such in .NET.Main problems occur we want to format text of mixed fontStyles. for example,Some part of selection are Bold , then Italic then Underlined+Italic and nowI want to bold them all. Obviously , there is no single step to achieve this in .net. So,Do I am required to traverse each character of the selection and change their fontStyle ? that will consume a lot of time.. please give me some insight on the same.     - problem with updating data source Hi folks, I've connected to the SQL backend using OdbcConnection. After fetching data I present it in DataGrid control. When I want insert a row, I create DataRow and pass it into DataSet.Tables[tabIndex].Rows.Add() method directly. Database is updated (previously established InsertCommand is called) and everything looks good. But in what way should I update a row? I can change its fields in DataGrid but when i call DataAdapter.Fill(DataSet, "tabName") method, nothing happens. Of course I defined proper UpdateCommand. Is there a need to create some special connection between DataGrid and DataSet? Currently the only connection I have is set up in class constructor manually: DataGrid.DataSource = DataSource.Tables["tabName"]; I use above class names instead of names of my objects, of course. When I used VS 2003 .NET, I can set up everything automatically and I saw there appeared some mappings. But I even don't know between which objects they were. Currently I work in Visual C# 2005 beta 1 and many parts of my work I have to accomplish in code editor. In what way should I update my database while working with DataGrid object?     - Context menu and keyboard hooks Hi, in my application I want to react to certain keys when a context menu is showing. So I installed a keyboard hook, but now whenever a key is pressed when the menu is showing, the application crashes and sometimes throws a NullReferenceException in system.windows.forms.dll. I assume that the hook somehow messes up the context menu's message loop or something like this.     - VB6 DLL versus VB.NET DLL Hello, I would like to know the following: In VB 6 I could create a dll file, place it on a server and register the dll file on each client computer, so all client computers know that the dll file is on the server. This way, I could make small changes to the dll, without having to reïnstall components on the client. In VB.NET, each dll is automatically being copied to the /bin directory in the directory where the executable file is located. This means that the dll file also is located on the client machine. When I have made small changes to the dll, I have to recompile the executable file and install a new version of the executable and the dll file to each client. Isn't there a way to make changes to a dll without having to recompile and redistribute to client machines?     - HELP !!! Focus() always return false if a child control is Focused already I am writing a user control which contains a some child controls (all TextBox controls). When the user control is loaded, I could set it as focused, but non of it's child controls is focused. THen I could click on one of the child controls to make it focused.     - TabControl and Transparency (Notes: This is with DotNet 1.1, Windows XP SP2) I have a tabcontrol located on a form where the form has a background image. Ideally, I would like to have the background near the upper-portion of the tabs be transparent so the image of the form will show through. Initially, this seemed to work fine without modification. However, after using it briefly, it is apparent that the tabs flicker immensely when you move the mouse over them. To solve this, I assumed I would be able to owner-draw the tabcontrol, however by specifying this the entire top-section of the tabcontrol remains the drab gray color and draws the rectangle to the right of the tabs. So, this seems to work even less than had I let the control draw itself. Doing a quick newsgroup search, I found two threads where this has been reported back in 2002 and a Microsoft representative posted that this was a bug that would be addressed. Being that this is almost three years later, I am hoping there is a known workaround other than overriding OnPaint and OnPaintBackground (or at least an example of how to sucessfully override these, as this can be a daunting task).     - Adding Reference to User Control I added a custom control to my project (Project -> Add User Control) and it won't show up under 'My User Controls' in the Toolbox. How do I get it to show up? (I know I could get it to show by right-clicking over the Toolbox, choosing 'Add/Remove Items...', and then browsing for my project's executable - but if I added the "debug" executable, say, I fear I'd have to redo this every time I build a "release" executable.)     - Parse event of Binding Hi, Reading the documentation, the Parse event of the Binding for the control is supposed to happen after the Validated event, after EndCurrentEdit is called or when the Position changes. I have breakpoints in Parse, Validating and Validated handlers. In my case, I am typing something into a field, then switching focus to another control. So reasons 2 and 3 do not apply. As soon as I switch focus to another control, Parse runs. Validating and Validated run later. Why is this? The documentation says that Parse is supposed to run *after* Validated, not before.     - DataGrid simple question It is probably a very simple question, but I can't find a right DataGrid property that prevents the user from adding new rows. Of course the 'ReadOnly' property does it, but the grid cannot be read only, since the user should be allowed to edit existing rows. However, when I leave ReadOnly set to false, that an empty row is appearing on the bottom of the grid so that the user can add new rows, which is what I don't want. I have a file system watcher which is looking for the creation of a file but clearly I want wait until the file is completely downloaded before I start trying to use it. At present I'm trying this...     - Datagrid row-specific tooltips Anyone know how to get a tooltip on each row of a datagrid ? The tooltip text must be configured depending on the row that the mouse is hovering over, and the hover timer must be reset when the user is moving the mouse over the rows of the grid (but not necessarily moving off the grid). Then I have put some DataBinding to the Controls with control.DataBindings.Add(...); Know there is some strange Behaviour: Fist: When I change to the UserControl (by clicking in the control), it doesn't cause validation on the other control. Only if I change to another Control the validation is occurs. The UserControl has a Property CausesValidation wich in the Designer is set to true. Second: I've got some problem to put the Changed value back to the DataSource. How can I get sure that the changed value of the DataBound Property is put back to the Control?     - Custom Control Sizes in constructor *and* parent form If I create a custom control that's 200x200, then drag it into my main form, the designer adds code to set the size. This means if I open the control, and change its dimensions, I have to also remove the ".Size = x" line in InitializeComponent of the parent form! Is there any way to stop properties like size, font etc. being duplicated in the form, when they're all already present in the controls constructor?     - Bug with Owner Drawn Context Menus and ComboBoxes Have a look at the code below. It's a really simple example where I have added two controls to a form, a textbox and a combo box. Both add owner drawn context menus to the controls, but the combobox will NOT draw custom drawn context menu item. I have tried EVERYTHING (deriving from MenuItem and even tried calling TrackPopupMenuEx directly), but it just won't work! What I need is to change the default application icon (the one that is seen in windows explorer) to my icon. I tried: - Look for 'application icon' in project settings - no luck, suppose this option is available only in C# or VB projects. - Changing app.ico to my icon: this works fine, but this changes only 32x32 icon, but in list view in explorer this changes to default 16x16 icon - Using /win32icon:myicon.ico as an option of compiler (set in project settings) - it does not recognize this option as known option. I want to put code that executes only once at the first available point after the MDI parent form is visible so I can give feedback to the user while the application is retrieving configuration data from a database and doing other setup work. The _Load is too early because the form is not yet visible, and _Activated seems not well suited because it fires too frequently. The closest I've come is to use _Activated with a Boolean set after the first call so the setup code doesn't execute, but it still seems ill-suited. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. The application uses GDI+ which forms the basis of the System.Drawing namespace...anyway here goes: I am trying to create a 1 bit per pixel mask to use as an overlay. The data for the mask i generated dynamically based on user input and is available as a byte array.     - CheckedListBox::SetItemChecked will not display properly on TabCon Hi all I have this checkedlistbox that appears on a winform that has a tabstrip control. The tabstrip control has say more thatn 2 tabs. On the first tab there is a checkedlistbox. The checkedlistbox first loads all possible items from a database; say 10 options total for a user to select. I then make another call to a database table that has the previously selected options for the checkedlistbox. All the data comes back from the database fine. I am able to use the SetItemChecked method to set which ever items in teh checkedlistbox as checked, but when it finally is rendered on the screen, none of the checked items show as checked. If I move the checkedlistbox to another tab that is not to display at the time of rendering for the form, I can select that tab and the items are checked.
