    - Hosted Winforms control in Internet Explorer Hi All, I've got a WinForms control that I host in IE to allow certain people to upload a directory structure to my Intranet. The control is signed, strongly named and the web site it's running from is Trusted and Trusted sites have been given full permissions in the .Net configuration tool. It works perfectly if I only have Framework 1.1 installed, as soon as I install 2.0 - it stops working entirely, the placeholder on the page never disappears. It's the same behaviour that I get when I try and run it from a non-trusted sites, but I've made sure that it's setup in 1.1 and 2.0 I've tried it on my bosses machine so he doesn't have Visual Studio installed and it's the same, install 2.0 it stops working, uninstall 2.0 and it starts working again.     - Text looks bold when i manually double buffer to a bitmap Hi Thanks for taking the time to read this post and offering any suggestions/advice. I have an owner drawn control that uses the standard setstyle method to double buffer my painting. Everything works fine and looks as intended. I am now in the process of expanded my rendering class to support internal scrollable sections. I decided to do this by creating a wrapper class to handle the painting. The wrapper class creates a new bitmap and passes the graphics object from it to the original paint event of the renderer. It then works out what section of the paint needs to be blitted onto the real canvas and does so using the drawimage method. It all works great apart from any text that is rendered to the new bitmap looks really bad. It almost looks like it is bold but it is also nowhere near as smooth as a bold font would be. I believe I have ruled this down to the new bitmap being created with a transparent background using black pixels. If I change the background to white using the setpixel method and make it transparent using this colour (a straight fillrectangle and anything other than white does not work) then everything looks like it should. Obviously this is a very slow method and totally unacceptable in the final product. Can anyone shed any light on the standard practice used to eliminate such problems? My current code in the paint method of the scrolling wrapper class is as follows ....     - Smart Client - always slow Hello, I'm facing a problem with the smart client technology. We have a smaller application (around 5mb) which we want to deploy with smart client technology. This works but the problem is, the exe and dll are downloaded each time the applicaiton is started. It's logical that the very first time the whole stuff has to be downloaded. But without any assembly change, the exe and dll are downloaed every time the applicaiton starts. The tool 'gacutil /ldl' shows the correct version of the exe and dll and the entries are there before I start the application for the x. time. What's the problem? ANY help is appreciated.     - asynchronous method calls hangs/takes time with other workstations i have this windows app running smoothly at our development and test machines which suddenly hangs/takes very long time to process on client workstations. the culprit is a routine which calls the same method asynchronously. client workstations are running windows 2000 sp3 and windows server 2003 (no service pack). could this be a problem with their OS and this issue has been fixed with their latest service packs? anyone?     - Adding a common componet to multiple pages... Hi, I have a common control that I want to add to two tab control pages. When I do this it only shows up on one tab page (ie. the last page it was added to). I've noticed in the C# code that the control count for the page is correct when added to the first tab page, however when I add it to the second tab page, the control count is decremented, which is why I am not seeing my common control on both pages.     - Display deleted rows in datagrid Hello, I'm trying to make the System.Windows.Forms.DataGrid to display all rows from a DataTable (even deleted ones). I'm using the following code snippet: dataGrid.SetDataBinding(myDataSource, myDataMember); DataView dataView =(DataView)( (CurrencyManager) dataGrid.BindingContext[myDataSource, myDataMember]).List; dataView.RowStateFilter |= DataViewRowState.Deleted; The code works as I a expected (I mean it keeps deleted records in the datagrid), but it always remove the last row (exactly like the bug described here http://www.dotnet247.com/247reference/msgs/29/145143.aspx ). When i click the column header, all deleted rows reappear, and everything looks fine. I'm using .NET Framework 1.1 with Sp1. I'm wondering if this is really a bug, or am I just missing something?     - Exception Running App under NTD I have a .NET 1.1 Winforms application I am running via no touch deployment (HTTP link from web app). On some workstations we get the following error at launch: "Application has generated an exception that could not be handled." I have already increased Intranet trust to Full, and even signed the assembly and granted it Full trust as well (via .NET wizards). The app does work if the currently logged in user is given admin privileges on the domain, so this issue seems to be permissions related.     - Alpha blended, Double buffered non-client areas. How? Please help! Hi, I am deriving from Panel and I paint the client and non-client area of the panel myself. I am drawing a bitmap in both the client and non-client area. The bitmap has an alpha channel so the edges are neatly anti-aliased. I am using the WM_NC* messages to distinquish between the client and non-client area. I set the ControlStyles to both OptimizedDoubleBuffered and SupportTransparentBackColor and set the BackColor to a transparent color. All of this works fine, except for the fact that the non-client area does not use double buffering or transparency. It seems that the control styles are used for the client area only? I have read Bob Powell's faq on Windows Forms and he also has a section on transparent forms. However, if you set the WS_EX_TRANSPARENT style, you will never be able to use double buffering, since Bob's technique will invalidate the parent's window, causing flickering. Microsoft's approach for copying the parent's background into an offscreen surface, and then copying your own graphics over it sounds like the only possible way to deal with double buffered transparent controls. The frustrating thing is that .NET has everything in place with the background painting. I've checked reflector and OnPaintBackground indeed paints a piece of the parent control into the graphics object, when SupportTransparentBackColor is set and the backcolor alpha is not opaque. Great, but it seems that OnPaintBackground only paints the client area and not the non-client area... Did I miss something? Bottom line is: does anybody know how to handle double buffered, transparent, alpha blended non-client area's? I'm counting on you, Bob :).     - propertyGrid display filedialogbox Hello all, I am trying to use a propertyGrid control which will display custom made properties. I have therefore created a class (properties.vb) that i have assigned to the propertyGrid.selectedObject property and that keeps the properties that i want to display. What i am trying to accomplish is the following: I'd like to have a property (in the propertyGrid) that when clicked it would open an openfiledialog box (like the one that is used when we select an image for a control) but i want it to be able to select any type of file. A second thing is that i want to have a property that would be a collection so when the ellipsis (...) is clicked an add/remove collection items box is shown. This is easy to do (declare the public property to be of collection type). But i'd like ,when pressing the Add button (on the add/remove collection items box) an openfiledialog box to appear and the item selected to be added to the collection. It would also be great if i could create the properties that appear on the right side of the add/remove collection items box.     - Getting NullReferenceException setting ReadOnly property of a DataGridViewCell Using .NET 2.0 Release: I get the subject exception when performing the following sequence of events. 1. I manually select a cell in a DataGridView. 2. via a ComboBox I change the cell's column's state to ReadOnly=False. 3. this causes the selected cell to enter edit mode because I've set the grid's edit mode to EditOnEnter (which is the mode I want to use). 4. Before anything is seen I handle the CellFormatting event where I color and set the ReadOnly property of cells base on their value and other cell values in the row. Result: If the selected cell is to be read-only, I get a NullReferenceException when trying to set ReadOnly=True because the cell is apparently in edit mode.     - Getting Caret Position from another process Does anyone know how I can get the caret position in terms of screen position from the currently active window? By currently active window I don't mean just mine, rather any window. Basically the end result I want is to position a floating tooltip style window next to wherever the user is typing (their caret) regardless of what app they are using. I've tried calling GetCaretPos, however this only seems to work when my app currently has the focus. At all other times the POINT returned by GetCaretPos is 0,0.     - Exporting data, how to set output order, ala View Tab Order My app has to export data from SQL Server tables, along with other data (data about the data being exported) into a text file. I have several checkboxes on my VB.NET 2003 Winform, which allows the user to select wether or not to export that peice of data, ie, Export Sum Total. I also have a user control that allows the user to select SQL Server columns in one list box and move them to a "selected columns" listbox. This allows selection of the data from the SQL Tables to export. I need to be able to allow the user to select the order in which the items should be exported to the text file. I was thinking about some mechansim similar to Visual Studio's UI where you can set the tab order of the controls on the form. Any ideas, solutions, sample projects would be greatly appreciated. I have successfully included the cursor resource, and I have confirmed that the name I am using is correct. Below is the code I am using to try and load the cursor - which always returns null.     - Activate multiple windows? I have an app with two windows, neither is shown modally. One is a main window, one is a tool window. The main window is being shown by Application.Run(). The tool window is subsequently shown by Show(). When I minimize the main window, the tool window disappears. The tool window is by design, not shown in the taskbar. What I want is to have the tool window (As well as any subsequent tool windows) activated when the main window is activated, but not draw focus away from the main window.     - MDI layout problem Hi I need to build a windows application with a main window which has on the left side an area with fixed controls and on the right side an area which serves as parent container for MDI childs. If I simply set IsMdiContainer=true on the form, the MDI childs will be partly hidden by the GroupBox on the left which contains the fixed controls. As far as I understand (sorry I am a .NET newbie) only a Form can be a MDIContainer and there can be no forms within forms (right?). So what would be the best way to solve this problem?     - Form resizing problems (HELP!) So, I have the following setup: * A form which is fullscreen (let's say 800x600) - Containing one PictureBox the size of the form's client area * Another form (details not important) The fullscreen form's PictureBox gets a snapshot (WM_PRINT) of 'Another form'. Then it rotates the image 90deg clockwise and displays it in it's PictureBox. Mouseevents received by the PictureBox are sent (with co-ordinates translated) to 'Another Form'. All of this is fine, until I want to make 'Another Form' 600x800, in order for it to display 'fullscreen' when it is rotated. The problem I have is that I can't force 'Another Form's size to what is effectively bigger than the desktop. The best I can get is a 600x600 (or whatever).     - Flexible data grids I'm looking for a type datagrid control that will allow me to have more flexibility in the layout of each record that I display. So, similar to a continuous form in Access, I can have multiple text boxes for each, so increasing the height of each 'row'. I've just installed VS 2005 and, at first look, it still doesn't seem to be a feature of the datagridview. (Am I right there, or is there now some way of doing it?) If it's not available in the standard package, then does anyone have any recomendations on a good third party control? The ability to change the layout as described is the key thing I'm looking for, but something that ironed out some of the other quirks and limitations of the datagrid would also be nice.     - datagrid current row Gday, Am new to using datagrids so if anyone could assist or point in the right direction in terms of resources - that would be much appreciated... I have a form that has: - a datagrid that displays summary data - other controls (eg textboxes, comboboxes) that are editable What I would like is when a use selects a row in the datagrid that the all corresponding fields for that row of data shows up in the other controls from where they can be edited. I dont like the idea of depending on the datagrid position attribute to return the selected row, as I would like to allow the datagrid to be able to be sorted on any column - hence the position would appear to be useless...unless you changed the form's dataview everytime the datagrid gets re-sorted? I believe what I need to do is get the key of selected row in the datagrid and use this to synchronise the data that is getting displayed on the rest of the form but am not sure of how to go about this... I have a windows forms application (.net 1.1) and I want to have a msgbox like window blocking the main thread while a long operation completes in a background thread. Is there a way to do this using MessageBox.Show() and somehow closing it from the other thread? Or will I need to make a basic form and have an event on it to do a this.close() from the other thread? When I open any other forms, I call the frm1's add-form-point function through the parent class. So I can use frm1 to control all the opened forms.     - Winforms Repeater Container Hello, I'm developing an application using the 2.0 framework, and I am in desperate need of some kind of WinForms Repeater Control. I have a user control which contains a number of textboxes, buttons, labels, etc. The control represents one line item within a quote (which could contain up to 150 line items). The user control has an expanded view and a collapsed view (both views still show controls for which the user can edit the underlying data). The collapsed view contains about 1/3 of the number of controls that the expanded view contains. I need these controls to repeat vertically inside some kind of scrollable container. It would also be nice if the container would autosize each of the "rows" of the container depending on the size of the contents within (ie: if there are 10 repeated controls and the user collapses control number 8, then control 9 and 10 should "snap up" to the bottom of control 8 automatically). One automatically thinks of a datagridview in this situation, since it will scroll contents and has the capability to programmatically change the row height. Unfortunately, I'm finding it extremely difficult to host my own user control within a datagrid view. I can get it to show up in edit mode, but I need my controls to always be visible and editable. Is there some kind of WinForms repeater (analagous to the ASP.NET repeater control) that I can use to accomplish this feat? Each time I add an item, I create a new object which contains both the the original object and its associated listitem.     - AutoScale in .net version 2.0??? I have an app created in VS 2003 which I am trying to upgrade to .net 2.0 and VS 2005. I have read all the new documentation I can find but I can not get the auto scale to work correctly no matter what I try. AutoScale is true, AutoScaleMode = Font, however, AutoScaleFactor is always 1.0, 1.0 on machines where it definatetly should not be (I am checking before and after the call to InitializeComponent).     - Troubles with associating a Toolbox Bitmap with a Custom Control.. Hi everybody, I have a problem with a custom control developed in C#, and the bitmap which I want to associate with it. The custom control is functionally complete and working well; However, I now wish to associate a bitmap other than the default "gear wheel", when the control is placed on the VS toolbox. I have tried to use the following declarations namespace MyNamespace { /// <summary> /// Summary description for MyClass. /// </summary> [ToolboxItem(true)] [ToolboxBitmap(typeof(<bitmapfilename>)] public class MyClass : System.Windows.Forms.UserControl { . . . etc... I specified the <bitmapfilename> _without_ the .bmp extension. I have made a bmp file of 16x16, with 16 colors - this bitmap file is placed in the _same_ directory as the .cs source file. Furthermore, I _have_ defined the build action for the bitmap as an "Embedded Resource" as I have been told to. The only way I can get the bitmap displayed correctly is to specify the absolute path to it, in this way: [ToolboxBitmap(@"<the complete bitmap path>")] In that particular case, the bitmap shows up on the toolbar. However, this creates problems when transferring the tool to other locations/machines. Does anybody have a clue of what can be wrong?? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.     - Child form controls not displayed when using Show() Hi there, I have a form that when you click on a button it does some work that can take a lot of time. I decided to create a new form with a progress bar that would keep the user updated that the application is actually doing something. The problem I have is that none of the other controls (labels, buttons) on the progress form display until the parent form has finished doing whatever it was doing. The progress bar on this form does update itself everytime PerformStep is called though. This is how I create the form in the button_click(): ProgressDlg dlg = new ProgressDlg(); dlg.Owner = this; dlg.Show(); The function then continues to do its work and it's not until the end of processing that the modeless progress dialog actually fully displays. Installed framework 2.0 on the machine and now the main menu doesnt
appear...

sorry I wasnt clear enough.
the application was written in vs2003.
it was not converted to 2005 and therefor I never even opened it in the IDE.

the main menu disappears from the running application at run time.

this happened after I installed framework 2.0 on the machine (not vs2005).

if I uninstall framework 2.0 it runs just fine again.
