    - ThreadStateException when show the OpenFileDialog in the windows Hi all: In my windows services project, I add a windows form to the project that act as the service control monitor, the form (frmInvestorProfile) has a method to launch the OpenFileDialog, when run in the IDE it will raise the following exception ThreadStateException: Current thread must be set to single thread apartment (STA) mode before OLE calls can be made. Ensure that your Main function has STAThreadAttribute marked on it. This exception is only raised if a debugger is attached to the process. If running in WinXP (outside the IDE) the service control monitor form can show the OpenFileDialog, but in Vista it will hang. I remember it work on Vista before, but after install the VS2008 and couples of Vista update (I'm not sure it is cause by these reason) it no longer work. 2.     - graphic Drag/drop challenge I have to develop a program that will have two panes. The left pain is a Tiff of a Loan Form. the right panel has a bunch of text boxes that are populated from a database with text data. I have to allow the user to drag the contents from the text boxes on the right and drop a rendering of the onto the form. So, for instance, I drag the name of the loan applicant onto the form and when it gets close to the place where name goes it will have a snap capability that will make it easy for the user to drop it in exactly the right place and it must be in the right font and point size. The problem is that I dont exactly know how to create controls at runtime and place them on the SkinForm so that they can be selected and the properties show in the propertygrid. The controls typically would be loaded from a database when the form loads.     - usercontrol garbage collector Hello everybody! I have a strange "bug" with my usercontrol : Here what I try to do : I instanciate my usercontrol to put it in a tabcontrol Then I call a function of this usercontrol passing some parameters like a dataset In debug mode, when I try to access the data into the dataset (any table) from the parent form, no problem. BUT if I try to access data into the dataset (any table) from the usercontrol, it keeps telling me it cannot evaluate the value since the thread is stopped where the garbage collection cannot run ( and so on, the real message is in french so...)     - Closing a CAB application Hi, I have an application based upon Microsoft's CAB. There is a shell application comprising ui extension sites, deck workspace etc. plus several modules which are listed in the profilecatalog. In general the modules are nothing more complicated than UserControls containing DataGridViews, this kind of thing. What I want to do is to trap when the user decides to close the application, and when this happens for the modules to be able to do some "tidy up" work. (For example, in one module I want to persist the widths/presence of the datagridview columns, for the next time.) However I am having a great deal of trouble hooking into any kind of "close" event. Simplest of all, I couldn't find anything off the UserControl or the DataGridView which told me when they were being destroyed. Other things I have tried so far have included trapping the WorkItem's Terminating event. This fired, but only after the ui had been destroyed, too late to write any data from the screen. Also, I hooked my module into the Workspace's SmartPartClosing event, but this event didn't fire. I can't help thinking that this should be really obvious, and that maybe I'm missing something.     - Odd behavior with WindowState I have a WinForms application in .NET 2.0. I'm trying to set the WindowState property of my form prior to it being visible, but it's doing some weird stuff. My code looks something like this: private void Form1_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { this.Visible = false; this.WindowState = FormWindowState.Maximized; } However, when the form finally shows, it is not maximized -- it's still set to normal. On the other hand, if I don't set this.Visible = false, then it will maximize the form, but it will also immediately make the form visible when the this.WindowState property is set. Neither of these are the desired results. I am performing some operations based on the form size after it is maximized, so I need the form's size to reflect the maximized state, but I don't want the form to be visible until after these operations are complete. Question 1) Why does it behave this way? Is this intended, or was this just an oversight (or even a bug)? Question 2) Are there any workarounds to this? I have tried some other things (setting Opacity = 0, which resulted in a weird flicker) but nothing is producing a clean, flicker-free result. Thanks in advance.     - Keyboard problems with embedding controls using SetParent Note: I'm unfortunately restricted to .NET 1.1 for this application. Workarounds involving .NET 2.0 are still interesting to me however, if only because they may suggest a way forward... I've got an application which acts as a wrapper for other plugins. The plugins are UserControls which are hosted via SetParent calls, due to living in separate app domains. They're all running within the same thread, however. I'm seeing the current issues: 1) Pressing tab to cycle focus around doesn't work within a plugin - it appears to try to pull focus out into the "host" form, but will never go *into* the plugin or cycle within the plugin 2) Drop-down lists don't respond properly to keyboard up/down (the drop-down list just closes) Now, I've been trying to work out how much of this is due to using SetParent instead of adding the control "properly", and how much of it is due to running in different AppDomains. The code below creates a parent form with two textboxes, and a child control containing a textbox and a dropdown. The behaviour I see with the example isn't *quite* as bad as with different AppDomains, but it's still not perfect: 1) Tab from the parent won't go into the child, it cycles between the textboxes 2) Tab within the child goes from textbox to dropdown, but then won't go anywhere else.     - Rendering issue when using AutoScrollMinSize and AutoScale Hi, I'm running into a scaling issue. I'm having a simple form. I have some control in that form (2 group boxes, one dock to the left , the other set to fill, with some misc. controls in them). I set the AutoScroll = true on the form and set the AutoScrollMinSize to 700 (which is good at design time). On XP system, the default font is set to Microsoft Sans Serif, 8.25 point), everything looks good. Now if i run this on a different os (say a chinese os, the font used is different and i'm getting a font of size 9 pt). Then it looks like the AutoScale is not doing its job properly as it does not change that 700 value. Ami i missing something? Should i avoid using the AutoScrolMinSize? OR #2 I can clear the "CheckOnClick" property and then regardless of whether I click the label or the checkbox, it gains focus but no action is taken until a second click. In Windows Explorer, when I bring up Choose Details to determine which columns are shown in an explorer window, their CheckedListBox behaves differently. If I click on the checkbox, focus is not given but the checkbox checks/unchecks. If I click on the label, focus is given but the checkbox is not checked/unchecked.     - ComboBox SuggestAppend not picking correct item Hi, The situation: .NET 2.0, Windows Forms: A comboBox with AutoCompleteMode = SuggestAppend. The problem: When you click on the little triangle on the right of the ComboBox to show the ListItems, and than you enter a letter in the Textbox-part of the ComboBox, the Suggest-list will apear. But: You can't select an item of the Suggest-list! If you click on it, it picks the underlying value in the ListItems.... The Suggest-list seems to work fine if you don't 'opn' the ComboBox, this annoying behaviour happens only when the user clicked on it before to see the ListItems.     - ListView display problems after migrating app to .NET 3.0 We've been using the WinForm ListView control on various forms in a large .NET 1.1 app for two+ years without major problems. We migrated the app to .NET 3.0 recently, and it appears that since then the ListView control doesn't get redrawn/repainted correctly ON SOME SYSTEMS (on other supposedly identical XP Pro SP2 dev systems, it never fails). On those systems where it fails, the font that we specify for the ListViewSubItem is initially ignored (ie, the default font/color is used), but then displays properly (with the specified font/color) once the ListView is hidden and then made visible again. In fact, ONLY the portion of the control that was hidden by another form gets redrawn correctly, leaving the part that wasn't hidden still displayed as the wrong font... if the dividing line between hidden/not-hidden is mid-way through an item in the ListView control, then part of the item changes font and the other doesn't !!! Here's a code fragment showing how we set the SubItem font in one of the forms: Dim displaySubItem As ListViewItem.ListViewSubItem = lineItem.SubItems(Me.uiDisplayCol.Index) If Not displaySubItem Is Nothing Then With displaySubItem .Text = Space(3) & Trim(.Text) .ForeColor = LineStations_AllRequest_Color .Font = New Font(.Font, FontStyle.Bold) ... etc Regardless of where we use the ListView (and regardless of who implemented the control and the code that populates it), it now seems to have the same problems, at least on those systems where it fails. For instance, if another control is in focus and I press an arrow key the last scrollbar that had focus gets focus and it's value changes with each press. I am new to .Net. I am developing a module for scanning passport
copies and extracting the text. Can anyone guide me on this ? I heard
about MODI and got a sample source code. I downloaded
mdivwctl.dll. Where should I copy the dll and how can I use it for my
application. I am currently running MS Office 2007.
