    - Evalute String If I have a string such as "1=1" or "True And False And True Or True", for example, is there a way in VB.Net to evaluate this into a true or false boolean? I have been using the script COM control with the Eval statement to do this, but is there a way to do this purely in .Net? Maybe using reflection or some other technology?     - MainMenu and MenuItems Hello, I am developing a security component for a windows forms application for my company. I want to be able to apply security to MainMenu objects and their associated MenuItems using a generic function. My problem is that I cannot seem to get access to the collection of MainMenu objects on any given form. I generally have 2 or 3 MainMenu objects on each form. However, I can only can access to the one that is currently set as the Form's Menu object using the Menu property of the form. How can I do this???     - How to size the form onOpen Hi, I would like to open the form with the maximum amount of screen available without setting it to maximized. In other words, I would need to know what is the resolution of the screen to properly resize the window to fill the screen.     - Selecting field from DataGrid when using a Context Menu I created a context menu and bound it to the data grid this.dataGrid1.ContextMenu = this.contextMenu1; This works fine when I right click. What I am trying to do is to capture the data that is in the specific DataGrid box that the context menu was created on. I am then going to pass it to another winform. The functionality that I am looking for is if you left click on some code in Visual Studio and then right click and select copy. Do a paste somewere else .     - Drag/Drop question I have an MDI app where I'm trying to drag things from one MDI child to another. The problem is that the drop target never gets any event notifications because it never has the focus. What I'd like to do is drag over this item, and then when the mouse moves over it, give it the focus. But I can't figure out any way to have the MDI parent handle MouseMove events.     - Thread Question -=> System.NullReferenceException after exiting main() I have created an application that will dynamically load other DLLs (plugins). The new plugin is a winform with an embedded IE Browser. I am wanting to have the form to run in its own thread. This would allow for other plugins and the main application to be free to do other work. I have written a little TestDriver for the plugin and am having some difficulty. If I don't use threads everything works just fine. If I do use threads, upon finishing the thread.Join() loop, I step to the end of main and I receive the same exception 3 times. Any help would be appreciated.     - Unable to delete controls. Hi, For some reason I appear to have lost the ability to delete controls in the designer (VS.net 2003) When I right click on any control all the options are blanked out apart from 'View Code' at the top. The Del key doesn't work either. I can still drag controls around the form but deleting them is impossible. I don't really want to go hack out all the definitions from the code... Any ideas?     - Form, CancelButton, Escape, prevent Form close Hi, I have a form that has a Close button. I set this close button to be the CancelButton for my form. When the close button is pressed, if there have been any changes made to the form, I popup a MessageBox asking the user if they wish to save their changes, using the YesNoCancel message buttons. If the user hits cancel obviously I do not want to close the form. If the user hits close I call Close on the form. This works fine for when the user clicks the close button, but when they hit escape the form closes whether they hit cancel and I call Close or not. How can I get around this?     - How-to create user control replacing main application form Hello all, I'm wading my way into .net by writing some custom controls. I would like to provide a parent class to these controls to give them easy access to common information. Initially tried this as a panel, but find that I can't drop non-visual components onto panels (they fall through to the main form). So now I am wondering is it possible to override the main application form with a user-authored form? I tried to do this by inheriting from System.Windows.Forms.Form, but when I instantiate such a control in the IDE, it actually appears to spawn a new thread consisting of an independent windows form which can't be accessed using the normal designer interface.     - Simple problem with the AxWebBrowser control Hello, I am using a AxWebBrowser control in a VB.net windows form. In the form, I also have a TextBox where the user enters the URL he would like to navigate to. I want the TextBox to change it's display (to reflect the new page address) when the user clicks on an hyperlink on the web page (like in Internet Explorer).     - Using Control.Invoke I want to programatically invoke a KeyDown event to a control that has the focus. Maybe you guys know a better way to do this anyway. In my MainMenu I have an Edit sub-menu that has Copy and Paste items. Each of these menu items I setup to use the Shortcut keys Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V. However, I want the Form window that is handling the main menu messages to be stupid about it and just notify the ActiveControl of a KeyDown event to let the controls handle copying to the Clipboard themselves. Going with this scenario how, in C#, do I invoke a KeyDown event to another control programatically? Or is there a better way to notify the ActiveControl?     - .NET thin client I want to develop a "thin client" using C#. The idea is that most possible information to dynamically create and show forms comes from a server. Dynamic data to be shown on these forms should also come from a server. The forms must contain many windows controls (user controls) which are not statically known by the client assembly (preferably). I think that using aspx is not a good solution due to the poor user interface without complex scripts to show the controls. I want to use web services both for loading info to create the forms and for accessing dynamic data to be shown in the forms. Is this at all practical ?     - improper exception thrown (Error creating window handle) this took me several hours to find a bug and fix it. I have a complicated form with several combos. After adding few more, I suddenly started to get famous "Error creating window handle". I started to dig through the net, looking for solutions and meanwhile did a lot of experiments. guess what turned out? it turned out that when an object is added to the Combo, the ToString() method of the object fails and you set the global thread exception delegate to your own (to catch all exceptions) you get "Error creating window handle" instead of "Object or reference not set to an instance of an object". this is to warn anyone who gets "Error creating window handle" and does not know why. maybe there are other scenarios when the exception is thrown instead of another, more proper. If I create the full menu, its structure will be like this: Main Menu - File - Printer Setup - Logout - Upgrade - Transaction - Load Truck - Physical Inventory Now, if you run this sample application, and click in this sequence "AddMain" - "AddFile" - "RemoveFile" - "RemoveMain" all the menu items will not be destroyed and you will have a reference in the memory and it will not be collected by GC. BUT, if you change the sequence to "AddMain" - "AddFile" - "RemoveMain" - "RemoveFile", now it will remove everything from memory and its clean. I don't understand a bit why this behaviour. Now the LAST and the most important: Earlier I added only one submenu and it gets removed completely if I use the second click-sequence, BUT if I add two submenus, there is no way I can get rid of all of them in any way. By doing different permutation and combination the most optimum that I found was the following sequence: "AddMain" - "AddFile" - "AddTransaction" - "RemoveMain" - "RemoveFile" - "RemoveTransaction".     - ListView control functionality issues Hello, I have a few functionality issues with the ListView control that I'm hoping someone might be able to shed some light on. 1) I need to be able to hide the vertical scroll bar but still allow scrolling programmatically. The Scrollable property hides the vertical scroll bar but also prevents the items in the list from being scrolled programmatically. 2) I want to display the horizontal scroll bar at all times. I can kludge a work-around for this by forcing the combined column widths to always exceed the width of the control, however, this isn't aesthetically pleasing and I'm hoping there's a more elegant way to accomplish this. 3) Set the foreground and background colors for a selected item in a control that doesn't have focus. If I set .HideSelection = False then when the control losses focus it continues to display the highlighted item(s), however, the background color is gray. I need to be able to set the foreground/background colors to a different setting. If anyone can provide any assistance on these items, it will be greatly appreciated.     - Help - Can not change form designs after localization Hi, We have just localized our application (to Chinese). One developer did on his machine. After that, it still runs well on other machines. We can debug it too on other machines. The problem is that any change to the form layouts on the other machines will cause the forms layout screwed up. You can design a form, but when it runs, it does not display what we see in the design mode (with same lang setting). Properties such as 'anchor' are lost when we reopen the form in design mode too. All those shapes on the map are not just images, their properties can be changed at any time, they can be resized, shifted and deleted. The underlying map is not just an image either, it will have attributes that will govern the look of the map dynamically. That's what I am trying to write. To display the fax I set the Image property of a Picture (using FromFile()). I also let the user switch pages in a multipage fax and rotate faxes that were transmited upside-down.
