    - Exception blocked in Application.Run() Hi, I have a very strange strange problem. All the exception that are thrown in my Windows Forms do not thrigger the display of the traditional exception dialog box that is usually shown. Instead, it seems that the Application class, or any other class that manage the unhandled exception in Windows Forms, catch it and silently continue program execution. Three questions: 1) Is there anyone here that had the same problem? 2) How can it be corrected? 3) Am I missing a property or a setting somewhere?     - How to make Win32 controls transparent? Hi, I found that checkbox, label and groupbox have painting problem with their background. I create simple frame with background picture and add checkbox, label and groupbox on it. I set transparent background on controls to see whole picture. Yes, it works. But, if I set controls style to System (to get correct XP Visual Style): checkbox and label background lost transparency!!! groupbox doesn't repaint background (group box is like window throw the frame) So, I think that these three controls in not implemented correctly in .NET. So I start to implement my own Win32 controls. I create the "static" control (label is based on it). But the problem is the same: "static" control is not transparent. So, question is: "How to make Win32 controls transparent?" I think, that it could be done successfuly, because checkbox and radiobutton is the same Win32 class, and radiobutton is painted correctly, but checkbox is not. Thanks for any advice.     - How can I do this? Hello, I am using a AxWebBrowser control in a VB.net windows form. In the form, I also have a TextBox where the user enters the URL he would like to navigate to. I want the TextBox to change it's display (to reflect the new page address) when the user clicks on an hyperlink on the web page (like in Internet Explorer).     - Shared properties across instances I have a console app running that references an Class Library. The console app runs fine, but I want to be able to run a windows form that will let me poll properties of the Class and reset them. As my console is running, it checks these properties, if one of the properties gets set, then my console app knows that it is supposed to do something, like shut down. I have setup a Shared property in my class: Private Shared sTest As Integer Public Shared Property Test() As Integer Get Return sTest End Get Set(ByVal Value As Integer) sTest = Value End Set End Property As I understood it, Shared properties are available to all INSTANCES of a class. Granted that the Windows form is probably a different process than the Console...is there anyway to create a truley shared property across all instances in all processes? IS there another way to do this? My console App is running through records in a DB, so I could just update the record it is working on, but that would be tedious since it would require me to poll the DB way to often.     - DataGrid Updating DataSource I have a datagrid that displays a few columns from a table. I need to be able to update a process date on each row if any of the displayed columns get updated. The process date ("UPDT_DT") is not in the datagrid. I put an event handler on the textboxes in the grid so I can capture when a change occurs, but I can't seem to get the process date column updated. Here is the code I tried: CType (Me.BindingContextdgLists.DataSource, "UW_LISTS").Current, DataRowView).Row.Item("UPDT_DT") = Date.Now The line of code executes but when "UPDT_DT" is updated it resets the row in the data grid.     - app.config I have a solution with 2 projects: a class library(my.dll) + a windows application (mine.exe). In exe project I have a reference to the dll. In both I have app.config files, BUT only mine.exe.config file is generated in \bin\Debug\ folder of exe app. What can I do to generate my.dll.config from app.config ? Thnx for any advice.     - How do I enable Add button in custom collection editor? Hi all. I am developing PropertyGrid runtime support for a custom class. One of my attributes in this class is an ArrayList that holds instances of another custom class. I have derived a custom collection editor for this list attribute. When this collection editor is invoked, it does display the correct caption which I assume means it knows the type of objects it is managing. My problem is the Add/Remove buttons are still disabled. From all the research I have done, I believe it is necessary for me to derive this custom collection editor because I am not working with a collection that provides access to an Item attribute for type discovery, right? I have no further enhancements that need to be made to this collection editor, so do I need to be overriding the EditValue method? If so, what should my implementation of EditValue be doing? Also, I do not have a custom TypeConverter written for the EmbeddedObject type. Is this a problem? If anyone out there can help me, I would be more than grateful. As it sits right now, I am as clueless as top management at a software design conference when it comes to collection editors. MSDN is of no help. There are a few article for the picking out there, but none explain the inner workings of the CollectionEditor in any detail. If anyone can point be to some good articles, I would love to see them. The problem is, how do i put a listbox into a textbox ?? i tried to TextBox.Controls.Add( ListBox ), but it doesn't have the wanted effect. Any hints ?     - Datagrid navigation I have a datagrid bound to a datatable that has two relations defined on it. I enabled the 'AllowNavigation' so that I have that little '+' sign to navigate to child records. I wish I could disable one of the relations to be shown when I click on that '+' sign.     - MainMenu and MenuItems Hello, I am developing a security component for a windows forms application for my company. I want to be able to apply security to MainMenu objects and their associated MenuItems using a generic function. My problem is that I cannot seem to get access to the collection of MainMenu objects on any given form. I generally have 2 or 3 MainMenu objects on each form. However, I can only can access to the one that is currently set as the Form's Menu object using the Menu property of the form. How can I do this???     - How to size the form onOpen Hi, I would like to open the form with the maximum amount of screen available without setting it to maximized. In other words, I would need to know what is the resolution of the screen to properly resize the window to fill the screen.     - Selecting field from DataGrid when using a Context Menu I created a context menu and bound it to the data grid this.dataGrid1.ContextMenu = this.contextMenu1; This works fine when I right click. What I am trying to do is to capture the data that is in the specific DataGrid box that the context menu was created on. I am then going to pass it to another winform. The functionality that I am looking for is if you left click on some code in Visual Studio and then right click and select copy. Do a paste somewere else .     - Drag/Drop question I have an MDI app where I'm trying to drag things from one MDI child to another. The problem is that the drop target never gets any event notifications because it never has the focus. What I'd like to do is drag over this item, and then when the mouse moves over it, give it the focus. But I can't figure out any way to have the MDI parent handle MouseMove events.     - Thread Question -=> System.NullReferenceException after exiting main() I have created an application that will dynamically load other DLLs (plugins). The new plugin is a winform with an embedded IE Browser. I am wanting to have the form to run in its own thread. This would allow for other plugins and the main application to be free to do other work. I have written a little TestDriver for the plugin and am having some difficulty. If I don't use threads everything works just fine. If I do use threads, upon finishing the thread.Join() loop, I step to the end of main and I receive the same exception 3 times.     - Unable to delete controls. Hi, For some reason I appear to have lost the ability to delete controls in the designer (VS.net 2003) When I right click on any control all the options are blanked out apart from 'View Code' at the top. The Del key doesn't work either. I can still drag controls around the form but deleting them is impossible. I don't really want to go hack out all the definitions from the code... Any ideas?     - Form, CancelButton, Escape, prevent Form close Hi, I have a form that has a Close button. I set this close button to be the CancelButton for my form. When the close button is pressed, if there have been any changes made to the form, I popup a MessageBox asking the user if they wish to save their changes, using the YesNoCancel message buttons. If the user hits cancel obviously I do not want to close the form. If the user hits close I call Close on the form. This works fine for when the user clicks the close button, but when they hit escape the form closes whether they hit cancel and I call Close or not. How can I get around this?     - How-to create user control replacing main application form Hello all, I'm wading my way into .net by writing some custom controls. I would like to provide a parent class to these controls to give them easy access to common information. Initially tried this as a panel, but find that I can't drop non-visual components onto panels (they fall through to the main form). So now I am wondering is it possible to override the main application form with a user-authored form? I tried to do this by inheriting from System.Windows.Forms.Form, but when I instantiate such a control in the IDE, it actually appears to spawn a new thread consisting of an independent windows form which can't be accessed using the normal designer interface.     - Using Control.Invoke I want to programatically invoke a KeyDown event to a control that has the focus. Maybe you guys know a better way to do this anyway. In my MainMenu I have an Edit sub-menu that has Copy and Paste items. Each of these menu items I setup to use the Shortcut keys Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V. However, I want the Form window that is handling the main menu messages to be stupid about it and just notify the ActiveControl of a KeyDown event to let the controls handle copying to the Clipboard themselves. Going with this scenario how, in C#, do I invoke a KeyDown event to another control programatically? Or is there a better way to notify the ActiveControl?     - .NET thin client I want to develop a "thin client" using C#. The idea is that most possible information to dynamically create and show forms comes from a server. Dynamic data to be shown on these forms should also come from a server. The forms must contain many windows controls (user controls) which are not statically known by the client assembly (preferably). I think that using aspx is not a good solution due to the poor user interface without complex scripts to show the controls. I want to use web services both for loading info to create the forms and for accessing dynamic data to be shown in the forms. Is this at all practical ? I am trying to display a RoboHelp HLP file using .NET Help and the
HelpProvider. All of the commands display the help file, but none preselect
the Index or Seach tabs. Nor can I display a preselected topic. What is the
Keyword supposed to be set to?

Based on my research, if you add a HelpProvider control "helpProvider1"
onto your form, the control will create a extend property "ShowHelp on
helpProvider1" for each controls on the form. Therefore, you can set the
value of a control to "false" to avoid help window while pressing F1 button.

You can also set it by programming. For example, the following code demos
how to disable F1 help function for a editbox:

helpProvider1.SetShowHelp(this.textBox1, false);
