    - How to lock CheckState in CheckedListBox? I have a CheckedListBox where some of the items are checked and some are not. I want the CheckState to be Read Only. Unfortunately, the Locked property doesn't seem to prevent the user from changing the CheckState. The CheckedListBox is on a Tab Control if that makes any difference.     - gdi+ book? Hi, there doesn't appear to be to many books on the topic. A couple of books had bad reviews on amazon. Im not wanting to get into really advanced gdi+ programming. I probably just use it to create controls. Nothing really advanced. Does Chris Sells book on Windows Forms go into enough detail with GDI+ Or do you need another book?     - Console window appear when starting a win forms inside IE We have a winforms application that is started from IE. When we start the application with the URL (like www.myapp.com/OurApp.exe), a console window appear before the first form of our application. The console window stay until the application is close. Why this window is here ? The project property of the exe is -Output type --> Windows Application -Startup Object --> CoucheClient.ApplicationEit (this is a class within the assembly.     - *insert curse here* Hi I have a simple app where the user is prompted with a password dialog. When the password is being entered, the cursor is hidden as I assume is default XP behavior. The problem is when the user closes the dialog pressing the enter key (without any mouse movements done) the cursor will only reappear again when a mouse button has been clicked, not only by mouse movements. I have tried putting a Application.DoEvents() after the dialog closes but that only solves the problem when the cursor is located above the parent form.     - MAPISendMail Hangs Hello Group! MAPISendMail hangs forever. It only works if in the VS.NET debugger I hit a breakpoint anywhere *after* MAPILogon and *before* MAPISendMail. Without breakpoint the app hangs forever on MAPISendMail. Funny thing is, if the app starts a minimised Notepad just before MAPISendMail, it (MAPI) will continue after which the app kills the Notepad proces. This is a very ugly trick. This problem occurs in a large MDI app but not in a small test Windows.Forms app! (If the MAPI calls are put on a separate thread then MAPILogin fails). What could be the reason and fix?     - Adobe Acrobat won't close I have the following code in VB.Net 2003 to open up a PDF document using Adobe Acrobat 5.0. It opens up and closes pdf document and Acrobat application fine at the first time but the second time Acrobat's File->Exit or clicking on X to close Acrobat won't close application. The document is able to close and I have to use Task Manager to close application. Any suggestions?     - Serializing changes made to control via custom designer to source Got a custom designer that changes the arrangement of subcontrols in a custom control. It works fine, but if I save the form/rebuild the solution, exit out, and re-open the form, the subcontrols are back to their original place. I know I have to change how the custom control is serialized back to the code, and I believe it has something to do with Type Converters, but all I can find is information on how to serialize properties.     - How can I remove the System Menu? I have a mdiparent form without any controls. It contains one midchild form. When the mdichild form maximizes, its System Menu appears (in upper left and right corners) and the system menu occupies part of the mdiparent form.     - Siziing UserControls via a custom ControlDesigner We need to know which edge of a UserControl is being stretched when in design mode. We've created our own CustomControlDesigner, derived from ControlDesigner for our UserControl. We can't find a way to determine which edge of the Designer/Control is being stretched when the control is being resized in design mode. We want to resize different fields within the UserControl, based on the edge being dragged.     - .NET - MDI - Container - (Internet Explorer) ActiveX loses parent Hi everyone, We are currently developing an application in C# which has MDI forms. Each MDI form has a detach-button which removes the form from its parent and displays it as a regular form. In .NET, you can use the System.Windows.Forms.Form.MdiParent property. Everything seems to work when regular .NET controls are part of the MDI form. However, if there's an ActiveX control on the form, it loses its parent and gets drawn somewhere on the screen, floating, not part of the MDI parent and not part of the MDI form. This is the case with for example the Internet Explorer ActiveX (shdocvw), the Remote Desktop ActiveX (msrdp) and probably a lot of others. We did not have that problem with a third-party component, which seems to remember its direct parent. I guess we forgot something in the approach on how to handle the microsoft ActiveXs. Has anybody a clue for this problem? We already checked every property of the AxHost and Form (container, toplevelcontrol, toplevel, parent, ...) but they're all updated correctly after the detach. We also tried to toy with the SetChildIndex function... Here are the important snippets of a sample application, full source upon request. Cause of this bad performance I inserted "Debug.Writeline(Datetime.now.ticks)" and found that most of this time (80%) will used for running the Controls.Clear() statement.     - Not sure of the subject... I have an app that allows users to supply custom values for various calculations; about 43 of them. I use checkboxes to identify the use or lack there of, of a custom value. I need to be able to tell when the check state changes. Instead of coding for each one of the 43 check boxes and text boxes, I'd like to have one sub that checks. I thought I would just add the name of the textbox to the checkbox tag and ctype it but I get an invalid cast exception.     - Validating grid data Hi, I am using the winforms datagrid and want to validate the data in the cells as I leave them. If the data is invalid I want to notify the user and focus him back on that cell. I have a number of textbox columns and one combobox column. I configured those fine with the column grid styles and have validation code hooked up to them. My problem is getting back to the cell that was just validated. I use the CurrentCellChanged event to capture the cell change but the CurrentCell property indicates the new cell. I would like to set the focus back to the cell that failed validation but I can't seem to figure out where that information might be saved. I can kludge the recording of the cell prior to the cell change, but it isn't convenient. Also, the validation event doesn't get triggered unless the column changes. Is there a way to get the validation event going in this case? I'm brute-forcing a call to it from the CurrentCellChanged event. It seems to me that there must be a better way.     - REPOST - How to Detect Windows is in Fullscreen Mode? I still haven't found an answer for this. I'd thought I'd try the group again. I have a system tray app that makes visible a windows form based on a timer. I want to override the timer and not have the windows form pop up if a user is in full-screen mode, i.e. a Powerpoint Presentation or a full-screen video. Does anybody know how my application might detect when the user is in full-screen video mode?     - ClickOnce after MSI Deployment I have a customer who wants to leverage ClickOnce for a WinForms app deployment from an IIS server. Some of their users are remote and only occasionally connected to the internet. As a result, they would like to have an alternate MSI installer for the app for those users who cannot get to the IIS server. My question: is there any way to take an app that is deployed via MSI and then point it at a ClickOnce publication after the fact? (and be brought up to the latest version of the published app?)     - VB.Net Calling VB Form Hello All, I have a application that has a VB.Net form with search text box, a listview and a button. Once the user clicks on a button, it will populate the listview with some results. Once the user double clicks on a result, it will open up a VB6 form. The form is still VB6 because the .Net piece is not written yet. Anyways, the VB6 form has a "Tab Control" on it. Here is my problem. Once I click on the tab control on my VB6 form. Then if I click back to the .Net search form using the bottom task bar. Once I try to enter in a new search. My VB6 form will set focus back to itself and appear on top. Any Suggestions!!!!!     - OnClosing event doesn't close form Hi Group, I raise OnClosing event in a handler of a menu item. It invokes the OnClosing registered delegate but it doesnot close the form. But if i click on the close icon [X] of the form it invokes the OnClosing registered delegate and then closes the form.     - Command Line Paramater Is there a way to add a paramater to opening the application? For instance. If I have a windows form that will modify a registry value, and I'd like to set it up so that it either closes after it runs, or it stays open. What I'd like to do is add a paramater to the command line that will indicat this. Like: c:\editreg.exe -close and the "-close" paramater would be passed into a variable somehow that would allow me to program it so that the program would automatically close when it's finished running...     - UI Cues not updating in designer Got a custom container control that contains other custom subcontrols that have a custom designer. The subcontrol's designer has a couple verbs that fire off events that changes the order of that subcontrol in the parent custom control. It's another version of the collapsible panel bar, where in designer you can right click on a panel and move it up or down in the panel bar. The problem I'm having is that when I move a panel, the UI cues don't get updated. The panels will move, but the selection highlight will not move with the panel. It appears that a different control is selected than actually is. Clicking on a different panel will update the cues (except when you click on the control that is highlighted incorrectly -- the cues already indicate it is selected, so no change appears to have been made). I can't find any information on how to refresh the cues. I've tried Invalidate and Refresh in the custom container control, but they don't work. TIA. Tag: Graphing tool Tag: 89966

    - Form validation problem Hi, i'm trying to force validation of each control in a form by setting focus explicitly on each control prior to calling this.Validate(). The idea is to ensure that the data is validated when the user presses the ok button on the form. The problem is that setting focus on some controls alters the state of the control. For example, setting focus on radiobuttons sets the checked state to true. Is there anyway to force control validation without altering the state of the control?     - No-Touch Ent Lib I am getting an error with no touch deployment using Enterpise Lib. in my project. The error is: Invalid section name. The section 'dataConfiguration' does not exist in the requested configuration file myapp.exe.config or machine.config.     - Resolution? I have a strange bug that I can't seem to figure out. I have a VB.Net application that is deployed on 100 different computers. On two of the machines the controls on one of the forms seem to "hang" off the edge of the screen when the form is maximized. The window resizes itself perfectly fine when maximized but the controls in the form itself seem to think the form is bigger and hang off the edge of the screen and can not be reached. Changing the monitor resolution does not solve this problem. Now, keep in mind, only two of the deployments are having this problem. Every other machine that uses the application resizes the controls properly. Has anyone experienced this before?     - More questions about client areas Similar situation to other posts, but I hope I can get a better answer to mine. I have a control derived from System.Windows.Forms.ContainerControl. I do all my own painting. Consequently, the area that I wish to allow users to place controls is smaller and has a different location than the ClientRectangle. Setting the ClientSize doesn't work, as this only changes the size, not the origin. ClientRectangle is read only, and cannot be overridden. DisplayRectangle can be overridden, but it only affects child controls that are docked. If they are just anchored, they can still be placed outside of the DisplayRectangle. Essentially, all I want to do is what could easily be done by changing the size and origin of the ClientRectangle. Right now, the only way to do it is to override the OnLayout event and make sure the control is within the correct area. is there a simpler way? And if not, why can't ClientRectangle be overridden? What happens if users upgrade to v1.0.0.1 for example? Will they lose all their settings? How can I prevent this from happening? How is app.config deployed with ClickOnce? 5. Why is Visual Studio 2005 creating app.configs for all the projects of my solution?     - Client specific localization I've read a lot about language localization, but I'm not sure how I can apply all of that to the following problem. I have an application that I would like to "brand" for various clients. Some bitmaps and icons, labels throughout the application, etc. I would like to be able to deploy the same application at each client, and then create a unique resource file for that installation. This would also allow me to update the application and resources separately as needed (with some care to handle new resources). If possible, I would like to embed the default localization in the main app itself (so that the app could run without any external resource). If this was localization for different languages, I think I understand how to do that. To do that for the same language and just different installations, I just don't get it.     - Capturing mouse, key events Hello, I'm trying to modify a C# sample app (Scribble) such that the user can draw w/o holding the mouse button down -- first mouse click turns on drawing, moving the mouse draws, and the second mouse click turns it off. In the MouseUpHandler, I set the Capture property: this.Capture = true; Some TRACE output in the MouseMove handler shows that when the cursor leaves the mdi child window, it stops getting the mouse messages. Also, after setting Capture to true in the mouseup handler (after calling base.OnMouseUp()), Capture is _false_ in the mousemove handler. While I'm just experimenting with this app, eventually I'll be drawing rubber band shapes and I need to have the rubber band drawing track with the mouse, even when it is outside the client window. Is there a way to accomplish this? Also, when a window has 'captured' the mouse, should it get all the keyboard input as well, or does something else need to be done? For example, in a differnt app, when I am drawing a rubber rectangle with the mouse button held down, my shortcut key to bring up the Open File dialog still works. TIA for any ideas.
