    - Displaying cells in the DataGrid with their original formatting Hi, I've noticed an unexpected behavior with the DataGrid control. Cells that have special formatting only display their special formatting (such as diferrent bg color, text wrap etc.) when the user clicks on them. Is there a way to somehow make the datagrid display the all cells in their original formatting automatically, rather than only when clicking on them? I'm mostly interested in this behavior because i want the cells that span over more than one line to wrap text. I've already found a way to change the rows' height (using the help of the incredible SyncFusion site!), so i thought it would be nice to also have text wrapping in the cells when the height is right. I wonder if it can be done using reflection, because i didn't see any public or prortected properties for changing this behavior.     - 1 Build Error Task shown (after upgrading to VS 2003) After upgrading to Visual Studio 2003 I have been getting the following Build error message when starting up a session. "At least one element in the source array could not be cast down to the destination array type." There is no file associated with it and refers to line 0.     - Problem loading a windows form. Please help. I have created a .net windows form in vb.net and compiled it as a .dll. I then register the .dll with regasm. I then call the form in a vb 6 application using the following code. dim c as object set c = createobject("LaborOrg.form1") c.show It works great on my developer machine. I place the .dll and the .tlb on the client's server and regasm the dll. I check the registry and it shows LaborOrg.form1. When I click the button to display the form nothing happens. The app and the winform dll are both on the server and I am trying to run it from the server. I do have .net framework on the server. Any suggestions?     - Form's KeyDown delegate not called when in DropDownList ComboBox I have a form with a delegate set up for the KeyDown event. I have set KeyPreview=true and the delegate is called correctly whenever I press a key, except if the active control on that form is a DropDown ComboBox. If I change that ComboBox to be DropDownStyle=ComboBoxStyle.DropDowList the delegate fires when I press a key in that control, as I would expect. The problem is I don't want to restrict the ComboBox to a fixed list of options. The user needs to be able to select, or type their own option. I have reproduced this in an extremely trivial app - one form, two comboboxes, one delegate, and no databinding etc. Does anyone know whether I could be doing something else that has created this problem, or whether this is a known bug?     - Empty value in binded combo box Hi all. I have to display a dialog adding a new DataRow into the DataTable (say, dtMain). One field (say, "Location") of dtMain is a reference to the "ID" field of the other table (say, dtLocations) and I want this field to be shown on the dialog form as a list of values of all "Name" fields of dtLocations, not as a list of "ID" numbers. I bind as follows: // Making referenced data displayable by their names dlgEditor.comboBoxLocation.DataSource = dtLocations; dlgEditor.comboBoxLocation.DisplayMember = "Name"; dlgEditor.comboBoxLocation.ValueMember = "ID"; The other requirement is that initially I have to display the empty Location field on the dialog form. dtLocations does not contain a row with empty "Name" value. Of course, I would be glad to do dlgEditor.comboBoxLocation.SelectedValue = "" or something like this but I get a natural exception. This is what I do. Before I show the adding dialog form, I add the temporary DataRow into dtLocations with empty "Name" field: DataRow rowWithEmpty = dtLocations.NewRow(); dtLocations.Rows.Add(rowWithEmpty); dlgEditor.comboBoxLocation.SelectedValue = DBNull.Value; // or "" Then I show the dialog, everything looks fine. After the dialog isclosed, I delete this temporary row from the dtLocations: dtLocations.Rows.Remove(rowWithEmpty); This works (the only thing I don't like is that this temporary empty value is available among combo box values) but I am not sure I did what I had to do in this situation (I am a newcommwr in .NET). I mean, when a user uses my application, it can create a personal profile (e.g. last files opened, custom settings, etc...). What is the best place to save them? Currently i can set the collate member to true, and when i display the PrintDialog the checkbox will be checked. But, regardless whether the user leaves the check box checked or uncheck it (or if i default the collate to false), ALWAYS the value after the dialog is closed is PrintDialog.PrinterSettings.Collate = false.     - How to capture UserControl mouse events in it's container Hello, I want to be able to capture UserControl mouse events by the container of the UC. My final goal is to be able to move at run-time the UC in the container. I have been able to do this with regular controls, by capturing the MouseDown,MouseMove and MouseUp events. But when it comes to UserControls, the mouse events are captured by the UC's different controls and not the container. I have tried setting the Capture property of the container to True but it does'nt help. If someone knows the answer to this, please let me know.     - MDI Child From Problem Our team is working on an MDI application. When we create a MDI child form in the normal fashion, assigning MdiParent property to the reference of the main form. The child form displays ok with the maximize and minimize button. But, when the child form is maximized the control buttons for the child window are not displayed in the menu bar of the main form. This makes it impossible to restore the sizeo of the child form. Does anyone have a hint or idea what may be going on here?     - Using LogonUser to authenticate a user Hi, I need the ability to authenticate a user within my application against a specific domain. The machine where the application is running might be part of this domain, another domain or no domain. I am trying to use the LogonUser API which seems to work fine when the machine is part of the target domain, but it does not work when the machine is not part of a domain. The ultimate goal is that once the user authenticates, I impersonate the user and connect to a database using SSPI. Is there some way that I can achieve this functionality? Thanks.     - Is there an event after form activation? I am trying to run a method on a class in a wondows application(C#). The application has only one form(let's say frmMain). The method on the class has some event handler and I want to print the messages from those events on to the frmMain. I have tried to run the method under from activation event.The method runs ok but I can't see the messages until the method call is completed (and it defeat the purpose).     - Coping in .NET I have a ListView control with several columns and rows worth of data. What I wantto be able to do is to allow the user to hit copy and it will copy this information to the clipboard. Then I would like the user to be able to open up any of the following application; Excel, Word, PowerPoint or WordPad and be able to paste the data into these applications. In Excel it should obviously paste the information into the different columns and rows. In Work and PowerPoint I would like to be able to create a table put the information into the applications this way. Ideally pasting into WordPad would also work and just provide the data, in neat format, like tab between the columns and enters between the rows. Basically I want it to act similar to if you copy information from Excel and try and paste it into these other applications.     - DataGrid: Real-Time Updates using a DataSet I have a SystemData class (Singleton class extends the DataSet) which has one Table (Trace: 4 Columns). I start a thread in its constructor which keeps on adding data to the table (simulating Real-Time data). I have a form (Form1) in my C# project which has a DataGrid (DataGrid1). I have set the DataSource property of this grid to the "Trace" table created above. I can see the data being added to the grid instantaneously but after some time the system hangs up and I see the following Stack Trace. It also hangs up if I try to change the Column width in the grid.     - Slow Form Controls Drawing Hi together, my first test with C#.NET (MS Visual Studio 2003; .NET 1.1) was very disappointing... The display of a dialog looks like in former days... so slow! Yes I know the JIT compiler ... but this is not the problem (it occurs even if you display the dialog more than once). The display process of painting the controls is very slow (even with a 2Mhz PC)! I searched the whole newsgroups and can't find any other user who has this problem... and this I can't understand. I tried it meanwhile on 3 different PCs (all about 2 MHz and about 512 MB). Here my (very simple) scenario: a. I simply created a new C# windows application and defined the main form as MDI container. b. I added a main menu which contains one option for displaying a dialog form. c. I created the dialog form and put only 5 controls on this form (one group box and 4 textboxes). This means no special overloaded user controls! d. So now let's start this "big" application. I select the menu option and the dialog appears (ok...) But if you look how the form will be displayed you can see that first of all the form will be drawn, and at all locations where the controls will be displayed, a rectangle with the (dark gray) background color of the MDI form is shown through. After this the controls are drawn. Ok, this goes fast but nevertheless you see these dark gray rectangles for a short time and this looks very unprofessionel... If you rebuild this scenario with former C++ or VB6 applications, it's not the case. First I thought there are different window styles for .NET forms defined (e.g. difference with WS_CLIPCHILDREN or WS_CLIPSIBLINGS) but the "Spy" tool shows me the same settings... This means there must be different implementation for erasing the background or drawing the controls????? Is there no .NET developer which is annoyed by this behaviour???     - Problems Adding windows forms in a managed mfc project Hello! We have a pretty large application written in VC6.0 (MFC). To be familiar with .NET we began to use .NET 2003 version, and still write our code in C++. I tried to select the "Use Managed Extensions" to Yes. With a lot of error during link - I fixed this - and we are now using Managed Code. I inserted a new Windows form into the application - how can I use this class - or form - in my original code? It's a simple "click on button (in MFC) and get the new Windows Form". THere are no classes as I'm used to. Just add the class into the cpp file and do a DoModal to that class.     - Multithreading and Creating new controls I'm trying to dynamically create a set controls in a Threadpool and then add them to thte Controls collection of a Form (the main thread). The controls seem to be created in the thread an get passed back successfully via an derived EventArgs class, but I get "invalid handle" error messages when trying to work them back on the main thread.     - Control designer for custom user control property I have a control that I've created and it exposes several formatting properties through a "Format" member. I've created a control designer that gets activated in Visual Studio through a designer verb. The designer gets activated and is able to read and write to the special Format property of my control. However, when I run the program all my changes are lost. My Format property doesn't show up in the properties area of VS for the control, but I know my property has been changed because when I reopen the designer it reflects the changes. I suppose that this behavior makes sense because Visual Studio doesn't know anything about my Format property which I create from a custom class. Do I need to provide some special serialization routines in my designer to save my changes in the form? If so, how do I go about doing that. I have a book that taught me how to create the designer but the only properties it ever changes in its demo are ones that show up in the properties window.     - Problem w/ .RESX files (MR) I've created a custom control. And now I've something that prevents me from using the designer to layout controls on my custom control. I tried deleting the .resx file, thinking the VS would just regenerate it, but did not. Here's how I got the problem: I created a new user control. I called it BaseControl. I created another new user control. I called it DerivedControl. After VS generated the .cs file, I changed the base class to BaseControl. EG: public class BaseControl : System.Windows.Forms.Control public class DerivedControl : BaseControl Now I am unable to add controls to DerivedControl using the designer. I have to manually create the code in .cs file. This gets really hard to lay things out. So, what I can do so that I can use the designer?     - PrintDocument and PrintPreviewDialog I have a PrintDocument which is passed to a PrintPreviewDialog. The format looks exactly the way I want it when the PrintPreviewDialog comes up. When I click on the printer icon and actually print it, the paper comes out with everything moved down approximately 1 inch.
