    - Hide Contextmenu in treeview I have a treeview with which I want to use a context menu for certain nodes to fill a memo property of the node. So when I add the nodes I set a property 'ItemNode' to either true or false. If the ItemNode is true I want the contextmenu to pop-up if not I want to prevent it from popping up. Here's my code which won't work...     - Custom Radio Button with Transparent Background Hi All, I have created a control that inherits from RadioButton and I have overridden it's OnPaint method. It looks great, draws the background with every color except with Color.Transparent. When I make the controls Background color transparent, it draws it black! Is there anyway to fix this? Inside the OnPaint method, my first line is: e.Graphics.Clear(Color.BackColor); I have also set the control style SupportsTransparentBackColor to true. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!     - Looping through checkboxes in datagrid Hi all. Coming from ASP.NET, surprised to see that the WinForms DatGrid is a totally different animal :( Need to create some small form. Got DataGrid bound to some source. First column displays CheckBoxes. All boxes are unchecked by default. How do I iterate through all checkboxes and check if the box is clicked??     - Help with multiple forms functionality We have a unique situation where we need to speed up the activation of our MAIN form. We have put a splash page before the main shows up and we pre-load most of our stuff (user profiles). Then we bring up the MAIN form, but we need to continue loading our other stuff (data sets, list). We want to do while inside the SPLASH, but minimize it and let the MAIN form come up as fast and quickly as possible. At this point, we'll HIDE the SPLASH page and just continue loading items in it.     - tabPage need the correct event I have an app with a tab control and on the second page of the tab control is a dataGridView control. I cannot find the correct even to sucessfully hide columns in this DGV. I've already tried the form load and activate events, and the tabPage Enter event but none are working. Strangely enough if I use the tabPage enter event, then enter the tab....then leave the tab....then enter it again, the columns are hidden.     - Copying Directories System.IO.Directory class Is there a way to copy directory contents using the System.IO.Directory class? I want to make a full copy of one folder (files and subfolders) to another folder. I'm able to move the folder using Directory.Move but that removes the files from the source folder.     - Help wanted for RichTextBox I noticed two problems with .NET System.Windows.Forms.RichTextBox object: 1. While firing ContextMenu.Popup event from a RichTextBox object, the ContextMenu.SourceControl is always null. 2. If I want to set a menuItem Enabled or not (e.g.: Cut, Copy, Reverse, etc.) according to whether there is selected text in a RichTextBox object (I test SelectionLength > 0 or Selected{Text||Rtf}.Length > 0 during Application.Idle event and then update the command and menuItem state), I get a problem with DBCS input: the Chinese IME doesn't work anymore, the Korean IME works letter by letter instead of composing hangul characters, and the Japanese IME works randomly. As soon as I take off the test of those Selection related properties, I can do DBCS input perfectly within RichTextBox objects.     - DataGridTextBox not text wrapping when not focussed I have a standard Windows Forms DataGrid and wish to display a 300 characters of text in a DataGridTextBox. I have made the data grid table style rows deep enough so that all the text can display. I have added the following code to the constructor for the form which contains the data grid:- ((DataGridTextBox)dgActPurpose.TextBox).WordWrap = true; ((DataGridTextBox)dgActPurpose.TextBox).Multiline = true; ((DataGridTextBox)dgActPurpose.TextBox).ScrollBars = ScrollBars.Vertical; but this only has an effect when the cell has focus. I need all the text to be visible at all times when the data grid is displayed, not just when the cell has focus.     - Drag & Drop multiple from ListView I have a problem with the ListView control. I want to be able to drag and drop multiple items, much like in Windows Explorer. I can do the drag-drop fine, but the problem is the MultiSelect property. If I enable this, rather than just having Shift and Ctrl selections with the mouse, it gives me a multi-select where you drag over the list with the mouse. I don't want this.     - MenuItem - Am I missing something obvious? I've got a pretty standard menu at the top of my main form, and the MenuItem's have event handlers for the "Select" event to update the statusbar text, but what I can't seem to find is a way to know when the user has cancelled the menu without clicking anything so I can clear the statusbar text.     - treeviw problem Hi, I'm using Windows.Forms.TreeView control (.NET Framework 1.1). When a user select a a node from the tree, the text of the selected TreeNode object is displayed in a Bold font. The problem is that when the text is displayed in Bold font some of it dissapears. It seems as if the space allocated for the text of the TreeNode is not wide enough. I added a splitter to change the width of the TreeView control but it didn't help, the space allocated for the text remains the same and still not wide enough .     - DataGrid - Editing row causes additional null row to be added After inserting a new data row to a DataTable that is bound to a datagrid, I am unable to change data in a row that is after the newly added row without getting bizarre results.     - Taskbar operation and irregular shaped forms I have created an irregular shaped form using regions and the FormBorderStyle set to none. I am having trouble with the taskbar button for the form not showing the popup menu when right clicked or having any control over the form when left clicking.     - ColorDepth Would there be a problem if I set the ColorDepth of an image list to 24 or 32 bits? It seems to be working OK in my computer but I am wondering if other people will have a problem.     - All capitals by Key Press Hi I am trying to build a windows forms control which derieves from TextBox. The added functionality that i want is that I want every character that appears on the TextBox should be in Capitals.     - Slow WinForm 1st launch I've got a simple winform app written in C# that takes almost 5 seconds to start after a reboot. The from was previously written in VB 6 and took less then 1 second to start. I've tried NGEN but it didn't seem to make a difference. Has anyone been able to solve the slow first launch problem?     - Controls in a panel are shown in incorrect order Hi, I've got a graphical application where some child controls are rendered inside a panel. This controls are user drawn and are transparent. The transparency works OK, I've been using Bob Powell tricks (http://www.bobpowell.net/transcontrols.htm). However, there's a big problem: child controls are drawn BACKWARDS its order. For example, if I add two controls and then I execute BringToFront() in one of them, it draws behind the other, but when I click, the mouse events are fired on it (so it is really in front). Below is the most important code from the control, the panel where controls are added is just a simple Panel with a transparent background, I hope if someone could help me.     - Datagrid - Windows Forms - Can't see what is in the grid The grid has rows but you can't see them. You see the grid but all rows are completly blue but when you click on a column in the row you see the text that is in the row. I sprinkled datagrid.refresh and application.doevents around but it did not help. It seems like it's memory or video card related. Each filename in the list corresponds to a PDF file. On double-click, the corresponding PDF file should be displayed. The catch is that the PDF viewer needs to be embedded *inside* my WinForms app, as opposed to being externally launched. The user needs to be able to scroll through the PDF and optionally print it.     - Access 2002 like Combobox in .NET 2003 We are trying to rebuild a current Access 2002 (XP) mdb program to VB.NET with a SQL database - we are having problems with a suitable combobox. There are many threads discussing multiple column comboboxes in .NET. We are having success with the multiple columns similar to the combobox from Access 2002 (XP). Our biggest problem is speed. In a form in Access 2002, our combobox is able to load data in a table in separate Access database file in a fraction of a second. This table is already sorted in the proper order, and has 65,000 records (almost the limit of items in the Access combobox). For this speed test, the table consists of one field. The records are just integers counting from 1 to 65,000. The Access combobox is filled with data by setting the combobox.RowSource property to equal a SQL Select Statement: SELECT field1 FROM table1 IN 'c:\pathto\database.mde" We tried to do a similar test using the VB.NET combobox with Microsoft SQL Desktop Edition 2000. Same table as above. We tried several approaches including binding to a DataSet, binding to an array (filled the array with DataReader), and using the combobox.Items.AddRange(array). The best result we could get with the 65,000 records was to use a DataReader to fill an Array, then use the combobox.item.addrange - but this was approx. 7 seconds - still slow compared to Access, and too slow for our purpose. This 7 second was during the AddRange step, not during the looping through the DataReader to fill the Array. Filling the Array was very quick. All of our tests indicate the the slow down is getting the information into the combobox, not get the data from the database. Is there a Microsoft suggestion get a large list of data into the combobox quickly the way Access could do it? Is there a third party combobox that can work in VB.NET and load the data quickly, preferable with multiple columns? Any other suggestions? VB.NET solutions are preferable, but we do have VS.NET Pro 2003, so we can support other languages as well. Thank you for all that took the time to read this long message. The purpose of this list to allow the patient to select a client/patient from a large and growing list in a medical lab setting. Now I've decided that it needs to check that the user is a member of certain groups as it's opening and close if they're not. A bit of research suggests that I won't be able to close the application before it's finished loading. this.Close() doesn't work in these situations. What's the recognized way of achieving this? I like to do things properly. If I was starting from scratch, would I create the project as a Console Project and use something like: Form1 form1 = new Form1(); form1.ShowDialog(); to display the form? (And find some way to hide the Console window.)     - Interthread communication? Hi, I'm fairly new to C# and .NET. I'm trying to write winforms app that simulates a piece of hardware that our company develops. The hardware behaves as a TCP server and processes commands received from clients. The winforms allows a user to change the state of the simulator, to simulate faults, state changes etc. What I've currently got is a simulator class that will run in its own thread and processes client commands. When the user makes state changes in the winform I need a method to inform the running thread that it needs to reload its internal state. I was hoping to avoid using semaphores by invoking an update method on the simulator thread, but I can't seem to find a way to do this (only from a thread pool thread).     - Crystal Viewer Control Bug ? Hi, I've used the crystal report viewer in Window forms several times and have got the hang of logging into servers and passing parameters at runtime. I've written this new crystal report which works fine in the Crystal design editor during preview but on the same dataset it dosen't work in the dotnet windows form control. The report loads fine into the control it's just the Crystal scripts I have put against events inside the report EG suppress group and suppress fields don't run if I view the report through the viewer control.     - Problem Solution Explorer and forms I just noticed a very bizarre situation. In Solution Explorer, some of my forms did not display their forms icon, but rather a class icon. (This particular solution is under VSS control.) Therefore, I cannot see the form in the forms designer. Most of the forms are inherited from FormBase, which only contains a status bar with panels. Most of the forms are locked. I checked-out one form, and immediately its icon changed to the regular forms icon in Solution Explorer.     - Issue w/ Property Grid and unhandled exceptions I am having an issue with the Windows Forms Property Grid control. Unhandled exceptions that occur in my custom TypeConverter are being suppressed. Example, I have created a custom TypeConverter that inherits from System.ComponentModel.ExpandableObjectConverter. I have a coding error in the ConvertTo function. When the Property Grid control fires the ConvertTo method, an unhandled exception should be raised, but it isn't. The only thing that happens is that the ConvertTo function stops executing at the point of the exception and the next statement on the call stack is executed. Now obviously, if I have no coding errors, this wouldn't be a concern, but I am human and do make mistakes (rarely, LOL) so this does concern me because I could look over coding errors during testing since the IDE/debugger is not reporting the unhandled exception.     - RichTextBox manipulating the client area Hi I am trying to create a code editor using the RichTextBox as a base. One objective is to implement a "gutter" in which line numbers can be displayed. From much searching of the web it would appear that this should be possible by modifying the size of the client and non-client areas within the control. I have foud some examples (in various languages) that implement similar behaviour on different base classes. When I try to apply the logic within these examples to the RichTextBox I am getting "out of memory" exceptions. The code I am working with is as follows... Why don't you make an ActiveX control and host it on Active Desktop?

Making managed ActiveX controls isn't supported so you may have to use
another language, but it still seems like the easiest solution.
