    - String Comparing in Debug\Release modes Hi, I have some code wich looks like so.. s1= "1.1.4" s2="1.1.4" if s1<>s2 then myfunc end if Problem, is myfunc is being called in "Release" mode on one particular developers machine, but above code work as expected in Debug mode or even in Release mode on entire different machine. So what the hell cause illogical code flow, and I have tried string.copare and string.equal. I have also deleted \din and \obj folder and also "cleaned" project but that did nothing as well.     - Seeking Textbox with "popout" for longer text - like Vis Studio 05 Project Settings Still a newbie at this: I'm trying to find a ways to get a textbox control to behave similar to the beahvior of the control seen in the Visual Studio IDE > Project ? [Application Name] Properties > Settings tab. On that page, the 'value' column is normlly displayed as a single line. However, it is possible to click the down arrow in the cell to pop-out a larger editor to accomodate more text. can something like this be easily accomplished with a standard textbox (i.e., without a grid?)? I'm far from making my own controls at this point, and this functionaility is just the thing I need for cases where 90% the data fits a single line, but ocassionally is much longer. thanks in advance d.     - No data appearing in my report I'm putting together a REALLY simple report for my WinForms app. I use an object data source. I see the three of them listed there. When I added the ReportViewer control to my form, I used the smart tag to associate it with the RDLC file I created.     - Simple Rich Text Parser/Painter? I have a DataGridView with a column that needs to display text that may be normal or bold, has user specified color and can handle hyper text links. The obvious solution was to derive from RichTextBox. I figured out how to get a real RichTextBox control to handle the edit functions but I have not been as successful in displaying the results once the edit control has been disposed of. Any suggestions how this might be accomplished? I can think of two approaches - display the RichTextBox editor's contents as a bitmap or write a simple RTF parser and paint the results on the cell. I'm leaning towards the parser but have not found sample code on which to base my own implementation.     - DataGridView custom cell - losing first character on edit I've created a RichTextBox DataGridView cell but the first character entered when the cell is in display mode is lost when the cell makes the transition to edit mode. What is the sequence of events that happens behind the scenes when: a) RichTextBox cell is displaying data and has focus. b) User enters a keyboard character. c) Cell transitions to edit mode. When the edit process starts, the editor control collects the data that is present in the cell and sets its own value to it. Initially, of course, this is an empty string. Any subsequent keystrokes are properly handled by the RichTextBox control but the initial keystroke that triggered the display of this control is lost. I did do one odd thing - I got tired of having that stupid page show up that said design mode was unavailable for the RichTextBoxEditingControl so I encapsulated the RichTextBox itself into a User Control.     - Empty NumericUpDown Hello, I have a small problem ; I have found an alternate solution but I don't like it. The problem is simple, let's take a form, a numericUpDown inside and a button that will show the value of the numericUpDown in a MessageBox (or elsewhere, whatever). Let's say you put '5' in the numericUpDown, click the button, "5", ok. Now, erase the '5' in the numericUpDown, click the button, still "5" but _nothing_ in the numericUpDown. My problem is that I would like to catch when the user erases what's inside the numericUpDown in order to put in the MinimumValue or just display the actual Value. Of course, I don't want it to be ReadOnly. My alternate solution is to use numericUpDown.UpButton() then numericUpDown.DownButton() but as I said, I don't like it.     - Export from Datagridview I must be doing something seriously weird as I can't find anything on what I need to do. I have a form that imports an Excel file into a dgv (to preview the data) I then want to export this into an existing table in a sql server database.     - Total Loss of control in VS.net 2005 code window I'm now consistently having a problem (shortly after SP1), that, heretofore, only happened once in a while. Now, I bring up the code window in VB.Net 2005 - and I loose total control - I type in a letter or two (most of the time, it's only one), and the intellisense seems to think that's all I need - the code window loses focus, sometimes thinking I'm finished, and adds parentheses at the end. Then, no matter what, I click in the code window, and I can't type in but 1 letter - then it does it again. When it first started happening, I could just shut down VS.Net - then re-open it, and it would be OK for a good while - - I'm loosing my mind with this - Does anyone have any ideas on what may be causing this?     - "default" Desktop and Ctrl+Alt+Del Hello, I'm currently programming an application which is started replacing the userinit.exe. The code does the following. When the user logs on the application is creating a new desktop "newDesktop", then the original userinit is created at "newDesktop". So the shell uses "newDesktop" as its desktop, too. The same is with the other applications, that are started when the user logs on. After starting the original userinit the program creates another desktop "formDesktop" where the forms of my Desktop are displayed, while the system configuration of the logged on user is loaded in the background. In this form the user has to solve some tasks and when this is done correct the "formDesktop" closes and the "newDesktop" is set as visible Desktop and the program exits else the user will be logged off. For sure you ask why "newDesktop" for the shell process? The answer is that when the user logs on the visible desktop is "default". If I don't use "newDesktop" the user can manipulate the desktop before the form is displayed and this cannot be allowed. If the application sets the "default" desktop visible before exit the hotkeys and trayicons and so on are still registered to the "newDesktop" and not the "default" desktop, so "newDesktop" stays the user's desktop for the session. What is the problem I have? Well, the ctrl+alt+del event opens the taskmanager in the "default" desktop, thus it's invisible to the user, although the process exist. Making the long story short, here is the question: Is there a way to make the taskbar appear in the "newDesktop" when ctrl+alt+del is pressed?     - DataGridView: last column can be made smaller but not bigger Hi, I have a DataGridView control where the user can resize the columns. The control is embedded inside a Panel. When clicking on and dragging the column seperator to the right of the rightmost column, I can make the column smaller when I move it to the left. If I try to move it to the right however, my cursor is halted against the edge of the control. So the column can't be made bigger. This can be reproduced in the sample at http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/1x64c23x.aspx by clicking Customer->View Orders in the main form and doing it on the table that appears. In that sample, it is possible to make the last column bigger again by making the whole window bigger, until its length is more than the total length of the columns, creating an open space between the columns and the edge of the window. Then the right seperator of the rightmost column can be dragged freely, up until the edge of the window. However, this trick isn't practical in my own control, since the control is too small and the total column length too long.     - Datagridview and the Enter Key Hi all, I have a datagrid that doesnt allow the user to edit. When the user clicks a row, the whole row gets selected. I'd like it so that when the user has a row selected and presses enter, a new form is opened and passed data from the row. At the moment, when I press enter, I can get the window to open, but the selected row moves down one. Is there any way I can surpress this behavior when pressing enter?     - Child form focus problem Hi all, An application I am woking on consist of a main form. On the main form there are several possible ways for the user to open a non-modal child forms to display even more information. The problem I am encountering is about loss of focus. Let's say here, that initialization of the child form takes about =BD second, from the point where the window is first shown to the point where all controls have been rendered and set with data. Now, on the main form there is a datagridview which is updated on intervals. The problem occurs the user clicks a button to open a child form. The child form is created. But before initialization of the child form has finished, the DataGridView on the main form is updated. Seemingly because of this, the main form gets focus and is moved to the front, and the child form is moved to the back. The user can manually put focus on the child form again and continue working, but tuhis is a behaviour that is very anoying to the end users. Have any of you encountered something like this before? The non-modal strategy is by design. The users want to be able to go back to the main form, without closing the child form. Therefore, I'm searching primarily for any help on the focus problem, and will only use a modal child form strategy if no resolution to the problem can be found.     - Windows Form App and VPN I have some clients who have users who reside outside of the company's network. The company is going to allow remote access through a VPN on the server for access to the SQL Server database. I want to have my forms app which will run on the client machine to automatically open the VPN when the program starts and close it when the program ends. That way, the clients doesn't have to set anything up and they don't have to worry about how the data is accessed. That means, the string "Test" should stay on screen if the form is not resized/moved/covered by other windows. However, in reality, the OnPaint do the e.Graphics.Clear() automatically. I'd like to know if that is possible for me to stop that behavior. In my application, my form contains many individual text strings. The strings are updated periodically individually.     - Filtering key strokes Hi, having a card reader attached to the PS/2 keyboard interface, I would like to filter the keyboard input, so that the input from the card reader does not reach the GUI controls. I tried setting KeyPreview=true on the form and catched all input with the KeyDown event. In order to detect, if the input comes from the card reader, I need to check a sequence of at least 10 keys. So I collect the keys in KeyDown and if it's a card reader sequence, I trigger a special action for it. If it's normal user input, I need to "forward" the collected key strokes to the form. The second part is the complicated one. Having a sequence of key strokes in an array of type System.Windows.Forms.Keys, how do I resend these to the application? Sendkeys only accepts a string and seems to not support all values of the System.Windows.Forms.Keys enum.     - ClickOnce & proxy authentification We have developed a VisualStudio 2005 smart-client application which we deploy using .NET framework 2.0 ClickOnce. We are experiencing difficulties deploying in certain corporate environments: clients that use proxy authentification simply cannot install unless they disable the proxy which is usually not an option. Apparently this is a known issue with ClickOnce and Microsoft has released a HotFix for it: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/917952/en-us Could we please receive a copy of this HotFix?     - What are my options in this Windows App? I am creating a Windows Forms app that will use SQL Server as the database. The app will be used in the following ways. 1. It will be used in the Clients office where the app will sit on the clients desktop pc and connect to the database on the server. 2. It needs to be used by those outside of the office network. ex. a remote office that is not a part of the network where the database is residing. 3. I might have users on the road that with wi-fi access need to connect to the office database. I don't want to create a browser based app using ASP.Net. I don't want to use Citrix. Here's what I think are my options. Am I missing any? which would you recommend? 1. Create a windows forms app that sits on the client and a web service that sits on the server that connects to the database. The user does something on the client and a call is made for data to the webservice which returns data to the client. 2. The app creates an opens up a port upon startup and accesses data directly and then closes the port upon exiting the app??????????????????? Any other suggestions or recommendations?     - ReportViewer and Terminal Services I have an application with vb.net using reporting services local (rdlc). When I run under windows, it prints fine. When I run under Terminal Services, sometimes it takes 3 times to print. Print, and it looks like it did, but it never appears. Notepad, office apps seem to print fine. I was able to trace it. I click the Print button on the dialog box. I see the print entering the print queue, but it immediately is deleted. I print a second time, and it works. It is reproducable under terminal services.     - Prevent a window from moving when taskbar gets autohide disabled. I have a windows form that shifts position when the taskbar autohide property is disabled. The windows does not move back to the original position when the autohide property is turned back on. Hi,
Has anybody had any experience with DesignSurface and design time
controls?! I have a UserControl with a Splitter on it that i want to
'pass through' the UIOverlay so it can be dragged at design time...
I presume i have to create a customised service, but i cannot find
which one i need.
