    - How to make controls expand to fill screen in fullscreen mode I design my forms in Visual Studio, which has limited screen space for the form. After compilation, I run the project and expand the form to fullscreen mode, but the controls and other elements on the form remain fixed -- they don't expand to fill the entire screen.     - A Framework for Datadriven Forms for VB Dot Net Hello All, I am currently in the middle of creating a 'Framework' for my latest VB.Net project. I have always created such a tool for previous lauguages. This time I am basing it on n-Tier architecture. I will probably continue and develop my own version, but have any of you people developed your own version, or used and 3rd party tools. What I am referring to is a set of code that can be used for most forms in the application, they will display data, allow for additions, deletions, updates, will support record selection, etc. I typically then add error logging, application logging, and a few other minor features. The only problem is it is a little labourious creating all the code for each layer, and the stored procedures required, and the stored procedures for the combo's also. I am attempting to use .Net 2003's data adapter to generate some of the sql for the updates and deletions, but I still have to hand write a reasonable amount of the code myself. Any thoughts?     - Window with another window on top of it. I have a situation where I have a window and I want to put another window on top of it that opaque at 50%. That works fine. But I'd also like to have it that when I move the main window, the opaque one moves with it. How can I do this? Do I need to go to an MDI which I really don't want to.     - using console with a windows app I have a VB app with a form under FW 1.1, sp1. In sub main, I do some setup processing that may or may not result in some calls to: Console.Writeline(...) eventually, I do: Application.Run(New Form1) All this works. If the app is run by clicking the app's icon, the console writes are discarded. If I run from a command prompt window via app arg1 arg2 | more I will see the console writes in the command window. But if I run via app arg1 arg2 the console writes are discarded. I would like to avoid piping to 'more' if possible. I guess what I want to do is flush and close stdout before I do Application.Run(New Form1). But Console.Out.Flush() and/or Console.Out.Close() don't help. I'm looking for a .net solution - not api's. Also, I have read some info about making a console app and starting forms from it. I'd rather not go that way - this app is a windows gui app that has a couple of troubleshooting command line features.     - Can't Read App.config with No-Touch Deployment and .NET 2.0 My application uses the no-touch deployment model. In .NET 1.1, this works great. After I installed .NET 2.0 (and subsequently uninstalled it), the application can no longer read the app.config file. Example: ConfigurationSettings.AppSettings.Get(...) always returns Nothing.     - migrate project from .net 1.1 to 2.0 Hello, I'm developping a program for over a year now and this is based on the framework 1.1 Release date is scheduled by the end of this year and I wish use the framework 2.0 I figure the sooner the better. I have installed vs2005. This nicely converts my vs2003 projects and solutions to the new version. But I think it still uses the framework 1.1. What do I need to do to make it use framework 2.0. Without a lot of trouble (or work). I think I could always recreate every project and then import the files, but I think there should be an easier way.     - context menu Hi all, I have a context menu and I wish its contents to be displayed in a ToolStripMenuItem. I simply assign the context menu to toolstripmenuitem.dropdown. This works fine, but it seems if I right click to open the context menu, the first time it opens is under ToolStripMenuItem rather than the mouse pointer. After this everything works as intended. If the ToolStripMenuItem is opened first, then the contextmenu always appears where it should. I use this technique in another form and the context menu always displays correctly. Is this a bug?     - Sub Main() declared twice? I have a Windows Forms application I'm trying to starup with a startup class. Here's the signature of my main in the class: <STAThread()> Public Shared Sub Main() I have application framework disabled, but when I compile I get: 'Sub Main' is declared more than once in 'Foo': Foo.My.MyApplication.Main(Args() As String), Foo.Main.Main() The app was originally running with a Startup form, but I'm trying to move to starting from Main(). Before I had it declared as shared and the <STAThread()> designation (ie, before .Net could find my Main()), the project would build, but I would get a "NoStartupFormException". I have no Idea what's going on here. How do I get rid of the Main() in MyApplication? I would have assumed that disabling the app framework would do it, but apparently not.     - Ideas on Themes selection for the Form??? I have two to different sets of themes for my windows form. Selecting each form should change the Images, color sets and other appearance related properties for the controls on the form. What could be the best way to approach this problem. I was thinking of saving these setting in different XML files and read from them on fly when theme is changed by the user. But any other ideas or suggestions would be very much appreciated.     - Smart Client takes Ages to Start Hi I have created a windows form in Visual Studio 2005. I have use the publish function to create an Executable to install on Client Machines. Now, i have installed this on both the development machine, and my personal machine. Once installed, the version on my personal machine takes ages to open.     - Hiding and Showing a modal form Hi , all In non .NET world(WIN API) i could have a hidden modal dialox box. But ShowDialog in .NET is dependent to Visible property !!!     - Me.Invoke - Incorrect behavior I have encountered an odd behavior when using Me.Invoke and any help would be great. I am using a standard Me.InvokeRequired followed be a Me.Invoke to make sure a method runs on the UI thread. This logic has worked for me countless times but for some reason I have a problem with it in one circumstance. The Me.Invoke is called but it does not create the delegate on the UI thread. Instead it creates the delegate on the same thread which then gets caught by the Me.InvokeRequired which call Me.Invoke and this continues until I get a stack overflow. So my question is what would cause Me.Invoke to not use the UI thread but instead the thread that it is currently on? Below is a code snippet....     - control validation problem I have create a control which CauseValidation=true (let's call it ValidatingControl) I have created another control reacting to user action.(let's call it GuiControl) Now my problem is: If my ValidatingControl is not valid and I click on some other gui element, such as a CheckBox or the close button of my window, nothing happen: which is fine and expected.     - Round edge panel: edges not smooth I am creating a round edge panel by inheriting from the panel. What I do is create a graphics path with desired shape and in the Paint method I fill the graphics path and draw the graphics path border with desired color. This would look as if the panel has round edges. So far I have not set the region. Bounds of the panel is still the rectangle. But the problem come when I set the region of the panel to the Graphics path region. It would not draw the borders( especially left and bottom) properly, it would not draw the curves properly. Also if I set the background image , the image is not smooth along the borders even though I set smoothing mode to AntiAliasing . Any ideas on why it is behaving this way would be greately appreciated.     - Strange behaviour of Form.WindowState.Maximized in Form.Activate event Hi, I am experiencing problem with changing the Form.WindowState property of the Child form in the MDI Winform Application. If I change the 'WindowState' property to 'Form.WindowState.Maximized ' in the Form Activate event of the MDI child form I will get double Control/System menu box for this form. By closing the form there is Control/System menu box left behind. If I repeat the process the number of Control/System menu boxes grows. I am expecting that each form can have only one Control/System menu box. Is this a defect or did I forget to take something into account? Is there known hot fix for this behaviour e.g. another way to maximise MDI child form in Activate Event? I am using VS 2003, .NET 1.1 with SP1, PC is W2K with SP4. Please see my demo below.     - Problem with CenterParent property Hi All, I have a windows application that has a form that gets sized based on the content of a rich text control. I've set the StartPosition of the form to CenterParent. In design mode the form is about 700 pixels wide. I've handled the SizeChanged event of the richtextbox to set the width of the form. Now the problem I'm facing is that when the form is displayed for the first time the left/top position is calculated on the basis of the original dimensions of the form and not the changed ones. Due to this it does not appear centered in the parent form, though .NET thinks that it positioned the form in the center as it is used the original dimensions to calculate the left/top position. After dismissing the form and opening it again will correctly center it within the parent form, because the width got changed the first time and now the CenterParent is calculated properly.     - How to use MaskBlt operation in GDI+ Hi, I want to copy some portion of a bitmap(source bitmap) to another bitmap(destination bitmap) using a reference mask bitmap. This task can be acomplished in GDI using MaskBlt function. Is there any such function in GDI+ for doing the same? I saw Bob's "Extract a region from a bitmap" article. In that we are creating region based on the given color and setting it as the region for the form. But in my case, I have the reference mask bitmap. If a particular pixel in the mask bitmap is "WHITE", the corresponding pixel value available in the source bitmap should be copied to destination bitmap. Otherwise, it should be ignored. What I'm trying to accomplish is to enable custom fonts (likely embedded into my application as a resource) in the WebBrowser control (2.0). It works just great to add fonts using AddFontResourceEx, providing a path to the font file in question, but because of both legal and technical reasons I would prefer to be able to only just add the font in memory, from an (encrypted) embedded resource. Must the WebBrowser control (Internet Explorer) be able to enumerate the fonts or is there another reason AddFontResourceEx works when AddFontMemResourceEx doesn't?     - ListView, Removing items. I'm having an issue with ListView control. THe list view contains items that are dynamically added and removed at run time. The problem comes when I try to remove an item. Whenever an item is removed, the ListView seems to automagically 'select' the item which sits in the same spot the recently removed item did. This only causes a problem when removing the last element in the Items collection, because there is no element to select, so it throws an index out of bounds exception. Is there anyway I can have a curved edge on a window - to round it out.
(Kind of like the top edge of a window that hasn't been maximized).

I have a window with no border and a back ground image that has curves on
it. The image itself has the corners transparent but the form doesn't appear
to be transparent.

Any suggestions?
