    - OnPaintBackground vs. Scrollbar Hi, I have a user painted backgrounf form. When form has got a scrollbar I run into trouble with drawing. I get the ClipRectangle in the EventArgs. It is depends on the graphics face, not the virtual (I mean that if I have a from with 400px of height and have a control at 600px and I scroll to the control I will get a ClipRectangle with Y like 25px, not 575px with 200px height). Even I cannot ask the virtual clientsize of the form, only the displayable face through Form.ClientSize. There is a PrefferedSize property, but it gives the form.Height value, not the ClientHeight... So I have determine the "border" of the form... But even complicated with scrollbar... So the real question is: Do I miss something or missunderstood with OnBackground paint + ClipRectangle + Scrollbar.Value and Scrollbar.Maximum (which does NOT gives the PrefferedSize.Height if it is the VScrolllbar.Maximum property)? Or what is the nice solution to handle the scrollbar value and draws the exact face of the background (if the face of the background as big as the virtual size of the form)?     - Add satellite assemblies to a signed assembly??? Hi all! Is it possible to add a satellite assembly containing resources with localized strings to an existing assembly that has been signed with a unknown private key? My problem: I have a third party product with Windows Forms controls that uses resource files. There are however no resource file for Swedish included. So would it be possible to create a resource file with the Swedish translation, compile it to a satellite assembly and have the third party assembly (that is signed with an unknown private key) use my new resource file? (Note: I'm not interested in sending my translations to the third party manufacturer and ask him to sign my satellite assembly) Maybe it is impossible for security reasons??? Or could there be some nice solution to this problem? Question 2: Lets say that I'm about to create a WindowsForm gui controller that I would like to distribute in a signed assembly.     - track app activation I want to know wether the application is active or not. I have inspector/tool windows, not attached to a particular window. and I want to hide/show them wether or not my aplication is active. I've tried to setup an IMessageFilter listening for: const int WM_ACTIVATEAPP = 0x001C; but it's never dispatched!     - Invisible combobox.     - passing sql server 2000 values with visual basic.net In a visual basic.net 1.1 windows application, I need to pass required and optional values from a sql server 2000 table for a windows application to process. Each of the 250 columns in the sql server 2000 database table are options on how a windows application with process. The user will pick all the options they want and then hit a submit button. I am trying to decide how to pass all these options to the business logic layer that will do the acutally processing. Each row in the sql server 2000 database contains the 250 optional ways for processing. Would it be better to pass these values in a collection, struct, serialization, and/or some other way?     - Plugin Architecture Question - Best Practice For Forms Update Plugin Architecture Question - Best Practice For Forms Update I have an application that follows a simple plugin architecture. Yes, it is my first plugin app, so please bear with me. There is an interface defined, and followed by the host exe and plugin (or client) dll. The plugins reach out into the world and get bits of information (stock prices, new mail, disk space, rss feeds... whatever) these bits of information end up as treenodes in a treeview in the host app. My question is: When a plugin is ready to deliver updated content, say perhaps by use of a timer, what is the preferred way of notifying the host app? (assuming that my plugin will be in a seperate thread) Should I pass a reference to the form? Do I raise an event? I know that you should operate on winforms in the originating thread only , so they don't play well with refreshes sent from timer threads (or any other thread).     - Dragging and rearranging images in a ListView control Hi I am trying to use a ListView control displaying large icons in a View = LargeIcon. I want to be able to move around the displayed icons with the mouse by dragging the icon within the ListView and rearanging them. I was trying this by playing with different properties in the ListView control itself or with the Items properties and the elements of the ImageList. However, I could not find a properties combination that would allow me to do this.     - Problem with DataGrid and an array Hi, I'm binding an array to a DataGrid. I only want some of the array's data to show up. So I used DataGridTableStyle and DataGridColumnStyle. But whatever I tried, my DataGrid shows all of the array's data, and non of my custom settings seems to be working at all. Are DataGridTableStyle and DataGridColumnStyle only for DataTable?     - SelectedIndexChanged not firing on mouse click I'm running into a strange problem (or at least it seems strange to me). I have a standard list box (System.Windows.Form.ListBox) on a form and I'm trying to trap for activity on the SelectedIndexChanged event. It works fine if you change the selected item via the keyboard (arrow keys), but if you click on a different item, the SelectedIndexChanged event is not getting fired. Has anyone else experienced this weird behavior? If so, is there a solution? Or am I just looking in the wrong place and should be concentrating on a different event?     - MainMenu disappears Hello, I'm trying to add a MainMenu to a form. I add it and it shows up, I create my items but if I click anywhere else on the form, the menu disappears. I have to click it at the bottom of the Design form and it will show back again until I click on anything else in the form. More importantly it doesn't show up when I compile and run the code. All I have on the form is several text boxes and a datagrid. I created a new form in this project and don't have a problem. I've tried matching up it's properties with the form I'm having problems with and I can't find any differences.     - .NET 2.0 problem with owner drawn listview Ok whats going on here... got a couple problems... this is relevant now to this group since .NET 2.0 is finally RTM 1) draws really slow when making it a large form (resizing speed is jerky) to a res from 100x100 to 1280x1024 once it gets above 500x500 it starts jerking you can see the screen refreshing as it paints 2) sometimes the background selection when you select multiple items then move the mouse around on the screen dissapear (turn white) mainly column 0 background 3) the focus selection rectangle is black only, it should be inversed of the selection color shouldnt it? so it would stand out, when its not owner drawn and the selection color is dark blue the focus rectangle draws yellow, in owner drawn it draws black and is impossible to see on a dark background here is my example code..     - Copy/Paste of a Winform in VS 2005 Hi there, I select a Winform (.cs file) on the Solution Explorer and right-click "Copy", then I paste the WinForm on the same project. I rename the new .cs file and then I rename the Winform object itself using the designer's properties side bar. The problem is that VS 2005 also renames the original Winform object in the original .cs file, wreaking havoc the next time I compile. Â¿Any ideas to avoid this? Any help is appreciated.     - Control Width and Height limited to 32,767 pixels Why are controls limited to 32,767 pixels? The width and Height properties are supposed to be 32-bit integers. I am trying to make a timeline control that could be scalled out to a unit increment of 0.01 seconds per grid division (each grid division is 50 pixels) and have a total timeline of 10 minutes. This means my Control must be able to be at least 3,000,000 pixels wide. Whats strange is that the controls were sizing properly earlier today, but all of a sudden, for some reason I can't explain, this limitation has suddenly been introduced. Can somebody please help me understand this!? I have done some browsing around, and I saw that it was a reported bug on some websites ie: Item #20 on these websites http://www.jelovic.com/dotnetbugs/ I'm not sure if this is considered a bug by Microsoft - I can't find any mention about it anywhere else. Is there a way (preprocessor directive, or optimization setting) to force the compiler to use 32-bit integers for these fields? I really don't understand why it WAS working earlier if this is a "built-in" limitation of Control.Width and Control.Height. Just as background, my timeline controls are extending UserControl. When the user scales (zooms) in to the control, I specify the size of the control to be: Timeline.Width = MAXIMUM_TIME * ( GRID_INCREMENT / ( scale * 100.0f ) ) ; where MAXIMUM_TIME is the maximum length of the timeline in centiseconds, GRID_INCREMENT is the distance in pixels between units, and scale is the "zoom level" of the timeline - the lowest zoom level is 0.01.     - Activating another process Hi, I have a windows forms application that is single instance. It checks its existance with a mutex and shows itself with the following lines of code if it is already running (using P/Invoke): AttachThreadInput(_hThread, hThread, 1); BringWindowToTop(hWnd); ShowWindow(hWnd, SW_RESTORE); SetForegroundWindow(hWnd); AttachThreadInput(_hThread, hThread, 0); On XP Systems the ForegroundLockTimeout is set to 0 to achieve this behaviour. Sometimes, when I launch the App from e.g. Windows explorer, the application does not get the focus correctly. It is shown in the taskbar as active, but the calling application (here windows explorer) still has the focus somehow. I need to explicitely klick into the app to activate it. This behaviour is not always. very strange. We also tried this with a Win32 Application and we can reproduce the behaviour there as well.     - Does Registry Key exist, if not go to form.. in C# I need to detect if a key exists like this, HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\MyCompany\MyProgram\UserName If the key does exist, I am opening my main form; Application.Run(new frm_Main()); Else Show.Dialog of my User Setup form. The form launching I can handle without problem, my problem is seeing if the key exists, and if not, then doing the redirect. I just can't seem to get this to function properly, if the key isn't there I get a object error, if the key is there then the app loads the main form properly.     - MDI Menus ChildForm I have a MDI parent form. The form has a Infragistics toolbar as menu tool bar.. I have a child form which contains a User control. That User control holds a third party TE Control The TE Control's Menu Items are not displayed since that is part of user control Now when I open the child form which displays the TE Control I have to show the menu related to the TE Control.. when I try to place the menu of the TE Control to the child form I am not able see it coz this is an MDI.. When I want to merge with the parent I could not as this is not an Infragistics tool bar and at the same time I could not display this in the childform too which is an MDI behaviour. Please let me know any ideas of doing this.. Please note we cannot create a infragistics toolbar for TEControl menu bar the reason being the control is tied up with the menu handling items..     - icons cannot be displayed anylonger Hello, I have bought a collection of professional icons in different sizes and formats like png, bmp, ico, gif. Now I have placed in one form the icons on navigation buttons within my form. I don't know what happens but whatever I do, the icon is not visible so I only see a gray button without any icon. If I enter a text for the button, the text will be displayed (that means the compiler is realy compiling). What else can be the reason that icons will not be visible?     - SplitContainer bug in VS2005 RC The error message occurs when the IDE reformats the designer code for a fully docked SplitContainer: SplitterDistance must be between Panel1MinSize and Width - Panel2MinSize.     - Definition of IconResourceId for Project Wizards I added a new project type to VS.NET 2003 and am editing the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003\VC#\CSharpProjectItems\LocalProjectItems\Data\data.vsdir file I would like to find an appropriate icon for my project.     - Different TreeView on different PCs Hi all, in my WinForm app I use a TreeView as left menu. In the last months I made several modification to the nodes (added, removed, renamed, etc, etc). When I install the app (using a VS.NET 2003 install project) on some PCs the most uptodate treevire is shown while on other there is an older version of the treeview (it displays nodes no more present in the projects!!).     - A report VIEWER control ! How about the report DESIGNER control ? Hi all, our team is really excited about the new ReportViewer control. Heck, it even supports custom data sources, which fits in nicely with our overall application design. The only thing that seems to be missing then is a control that allows our users to design (or at least modify) reports themselves. In our mind, the biggest advantage to working with a report engine and report files is the ability to provide your users with customizable reports. Moreover, we know this functionality exists since we (programmers) use the report designer in VS2005. So it would be up to Microsoft to package it into a control and ship it. I'm sure somebody else has already asked about this by now but repeated google queries have turned up nothing relevant. Thanks for any light anyone can shed on this.     - Size of a WinForm Hello, I have a silly question about sizes of a winform on different screens and resolutions. My Notebookscreen has a resolution of 1400*1050 with 120 dpi on a Desktop the resolution ist 1024*768 with standard 96 pdi. When I set the set the size of a form in my notebook to 1024*768 (property during design time) this will then result to a 936*734 when run on the desktop (Just added the line: this.Text = "Pixel (Start): " + this.Size.Width.ToString() + " : " + this.Size.Height.ToString(); to the form_load event procedure). If I do the same one the desktopPC (set the proprerties to 1024*768 and compile and start the application on the notebook this will result in a form which is much larger then defined (1363*944) Why does this happen?, And how can I develop an application on my notebook, which shown up as expected /defined on the desktop and vice versa. Hi, In my application, on some given actions while debugging in Visual Studio, I suddenly get a "System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception was unhandled" Message="Error creating window handle." exception. The problem is that this exception isn't raised somewhere in a method, so it just shows up, and it causes the application to shut down. Is there anyway how to catch this kinds of exceptions? [Using VB.Net 2003] When filling a DataTable, I'm feeding instances of a custom class into one of its columns, the way you would do with a ListBox for example. My problem is that even though it accepts data of generic type "object", it only seems to store a string representation in the DataTable. "SettingItem" below is a custom class. With a ListBox this works: Dim lstTest As New ListBox Dim x As New SettingItem lstTest.Items.Add(x) Debug.WriteLine(lstTest.Items(0).GetType) It prints "ApplicatiunName.SettingItem". Later, you can access the full selected SettingItem object in the listbox's events. You control what is displayed in the listbox by overriding the ToString method of whatever class you fill it with. The Item property of a DataRow in a DataTable has "object" as type, so I expected it to work the same way. First of all, thanks for your reply.
Unfortunately is not my problem. The controls are not disappearing,
only moving down :-(
I red a post about a hotfix in .net that perhaps can solve the problem,
but i can't find in microsoft web site
