    - Changing items in bound ComboBox I have a combo box (dropdown) that is bound to an array of objects with the member specified by a property name. There is one item on the drop-down that when selected I want to be able to change the text displayed. I cast the selected item to my object and set the value that I want to change. The text shows in the debugger just fine but both the selected text and the drop-down text is not correct and the properties are never queried to get the new text. It is like the drop-down is ignoring the fact that the field has been changed. How do I make sure that the drop-down first, knows to requery for the changed item and second, displays the correct updated text? Thank you. Kevin Tag: ClickOnce Deployment Tag: 103965

    - Strange mouse behaviour on form? (VS2003) Hi All, I have a very straighforward form with a number of text and other fields on it, which are bound to fields in a data source. All the fields get populated properly from the database, but there is a strange problem with mouse usage. If I click anywhere in a text field, the flashing cursor will only appear at the beginning of the field - regardless of where I click. I can't highlight any text in a field by dragging with the mouse. I can get a word in the field to highlight by double-clicking on it, and I can move the cursor around with the keyboard. Any clues? I've never seen this before, and it doesn't happen on any other of my forms, as far as I know.     - Combo Box not Repainting when updated out of focus I am using C# on a windows form with three tabs. Each tab holds a user control and there are several combo boxes on each user control. On all three user controls there is a combo box that contains information from the same location in a database. but the information is displayed differently in each instance. In one combo box all values from the table are displayed, on another box only the values that meet a certain criteria are displayed and on the third combo box only the values that meet an additional criteria are displayed so all three display different information from the same source. On one of the controls I can update the information in the DB. When I do so I want the other combo boxes on the other user controls to update their information, essentially requery the database and redisplay the new information. This works fine for the combo box that is on the user control in focus but the user controls on the other two tabs that were not in focus when there combobox data was updated seem to lose the ability to repaint themselves. However they do seem to have the updated information. I can click where the drop down arrow is though I cannot see the drop down arrow. The combo box will drop down and show the values inside though the text box portion will not repaint. I can scroll through the list of values in the dropdown though I cannot see the combo box scrolling and I can select a value, though I cannot see the value I scrolled to. The combo boxes that were out of focus when their data was updated will not repaint until I close and reopen the form. I also tried a different method of throwing an event on the user control in focus that told the parent form that the combo boxes need to be updated. The parent form in turn would notify the other user controls that they needed to update their combo boxes by setting a variable and then on the Enter event on the other user controls I checked the variable to see if it was true when the user control comes into focus and if so would requery the info in the database and refill the combo box but this did not work either. The combo box will not repaint it self even though its info if updated when the combo is in focus it appears. It seems this has something to do with the idea that you should not update the UI directly from a worker thread but should call the UI's Invoke method for updating which I tried doing as well but it does not seem to work either.     - VB 2005 visualstyles problem. My application seems to be ignoring Enable XP visual styles, which is ticked on in the application properties. the Toolbar and Menubar, which appear the nice looking shaded blue appear like that whilst in the IDE, but when I run the app, they both go to boring grey. In the application.designer.vb self generated file, it does have PublicSubNew() MyBase.New(Global.Microsoft.VisualBasic.ApplicationServices.Authent icationMode.Windows) Me.IsSingleInstance = false Me.EnableVisualStyles = true Me.SaveMySettingsOnExit = true Me.ShutDownStyle = Global.Microsoft.VisualBasic.ApplicationServices.Shutdow nMode.AfterMainFormCloses EndSub If i create a brand new application, just as a test and drop the two controls into that, they appear with visual styles.     - how to call asp page from an email Hi All, We are sending an html email from asp page.In the email we appended an image tag and the "src" attribute points an asp page in our server.Here when ever user read the email this image tag will fire our asp page.It is working fine if we open the mail in web browsers.It is failing in outlook express.We modified the code a bit and replaced the <img> tag with <iframe> tag.It is woring fine in outlook express now. but it is not failing in web browsers.Do we have any other alternative method to call an asp page from the email.     - ComboBoxColumn = Slowww I have a DataGridView with about 450 records. There are five columns: three ComboBoxColumns and two TextBoxColumns. When loading the Form, even after all the BindingSources are filled, it still takes a long time before the data shows (and I'm running on a pretty fast machine). Also, if you try to re-sort one of the columns, it sits there for a good long while before it redraws the table. So, I was thinking, if it's possible, maybe I should just use standard columns (TextBoxColumns) and then use event handlers to insert and remove ComboBoxes on the fly on an as-needed basis. This seems like it would speed thinks up a lot but I can't figure out how to change an individual cell's EditingControl from a TextBox to a ComboBox. Please advise.     - How to elegantly handle resizing dialog box in 2005? I have a dialog style application that uses DirectX to play DVD movies. In the center of the form is the main panel where DirectX displays the movie. Around the edges are various list controls, checkboxes and buttons. When the window is resized, I only want the main panel to resize and everything else to stay as stationary as possible. In the case of vertical resizing (expansion), I would like the controls on each side of the main panel to expand proportionately. However, I want the buttons on the bottom to stay the same giving all the new room to the main panel. I could override the OnResize and write the logic to reposition all the controls. Uggghhh... Does .NET 2005 have anything like a java gridbaglayout manager? I know .NET 2003 could resize a dialog box and allowed you to specify how it would resize.     - How can I keep a contextmenustrip from adding Icons in task bar? Hi, I am working on an app that can launch launch other apps. I then setup a hook into the systems menu of these apps that posts a message back to the parent app. This message is used to display a special context menu that runs in the original app's process space, but is displayed on top of the child app that invoked it. This actually works. The problem is that when the contextmenustrip shows up, it is matched by an item in the task bar. This item has an icon but no title.     - Using C# dll as COM in an MFC application Hello, I have written a C# dll in VS2005. One interface and class are exported using Interop Services. I want to use this c# dll in my MFC application, using VS2003. It compiles after I imported the dll to my MFC app. On runtime I get class not registered HR error in my MFC project. I use the code as follow: _NewActivationPtr myActivation = NULL; HRESULT hr = myActivation.CreateInstance(__uuidof(NewSupernaActivation)); I don't what to do. Do I have to use GACUtil to register? If I want to use GACUtil do I have to sign my project? Trying do it had failed, because my third party library I'm using in my C# dll is not signed (so if I choose to sign my project, there is a compilation error, caused because the 3rd party library is not signed, I guess).     - UserControl Docking/Resizing Problems I have a UserControl (size = 800 x 600) that contains a TableLayoutPanel. The TableLayout Panel's Dock property is set to Fill. When I place this UserControl in the left panel of a SplitContainer and set its Dock property to Fill, it takes on the size of the panel (500 x 600), but the TableLayoutPanel remains 800 x 600. If I return to the design tab for the UserControl and change it's size manually to 500 x 600, however, the TableLayoutPanel resizes as expected. Note: I experimented with the AutoSize, AutoSizeMode, and Anchor properties but none of these made any difference. Another Note: If I change the size of the left panel of the SplitContainer to 900 x 600, the TableLayoutPanel *expands* to fill the extra 100 pixels. So, expanding works but shrinking doesn't.     - DataGrid Disable Ctr-A Ctrl-A selects all in the System.Windows.Forms.DataGrid. I am trying to disable this functionality and am having a heck of a time. I have a control that inherits from DataGrid I have tried to catch the Ctrl-A in the OnKeyDown and ProcessKeyMessage and it seems that something is getting to it bore I do. I am able to catch it in the OnKeyUp, but by then its too late.     - Combobox autocomplete I'm working with C# in Visual Studio 2005. I have a combobox with AutoCompleteSource = ListItems and DropDownStyle = DropDown. I want users to be able to type in the combobox and the control to autocomplete (Append AutoCompleteMode), but have their options limited to the control's ListItems. Right now the autocomplete works fine, but they can type anything that isn't in the list.     - WinForms Drop Down List Hi- Hopefully this is a simple one. I need a "Drop down list" - kind of like a Combo Box but without the ability to type arbitrary text.     - adding designtime support for property of usercontrol (InitializeComponents) I have a very simple UserControl (derived from System.Windows.Forms.UserControl) that contains several ListViews. The UserControl exposes a single public property: public ListView.ColumnHeaderCollection Columns { get {...} }; When I use VS2005 designer's proprtygrid for that UserConrol to add new Colums to the Collection everything works fine: The form that contains the UserControl gets new members ( private System.Windows.Forms.ColumnHeader columnHeader1, ...) in the UserControl.Designer.cs also initializes each ColumnHeader inside InitializeComponets(). There is one thing though that the designer fails to do: it does not add the necessary: this.userControl1.Columns.AddRange(new System.Windows.Forms.ColumnHeader[] {this.columnHeader1,this.columnHeader2,...}); into the InitializeComponent() Method in the UserControl.Designer.cs. I find this a pain and I would prefer the default to be "OnPropertyChanged".     - NumericUpDown select contents I am having a hard time trying to select thet contents of a NumericUpDown control when it gets focus. When the control gets focus I want all the contents to be selected so that the user would per default overwrite it when she enters data. Basically I overrode OnEnter and did this.Select(0, this.Value.ToString().Length); (seems a bit cumbersome, but I haven't found a better way of doing it). Nothing happens. MSDN documentation states NumericUpDown should have a Text property, I can't see that it does. It does not have a Selection property either, so if I needed the actual selected numbers I don't see how I would get that. When I set my smtp server as some ip address which is a smtp server and when the smtp runs in my local machine where my exe resides, the mail is sent perfectly. 2. When i specify the ip address of some amtp server in my intranet and when the smtp server is not configured in my local machine whre my exe resides, the send mail fails. My doubts: 1. Eventhough i sent it to the correct ip address of local intranet which is having amtp server , why it is not working? 2. Does it expect to run smtp service in the local machine? 3. Whether smtp has to be configured in local machine. But logically it should not be the case. It should work eventhough the smtp is not configured in the local machine and if it is configured in any other machine which is having amtp server 4. some of the sites specified that the smtp server should be hard coded as "localhost".     - Windows App Freezing I have a muti-threaded windows app that creates child forms in a separate thread which then invoke a delegate on the MDI parent form. I have put all time-consuming tasks on separate background workers like running stored proc, poppulating data grid, etc. I am running VB.Net 2005 on Windows 2000 SP4 and on XP SP2. After a period of inactivity in the app (15-30 minutes), it freezes. The task manager says its running but I cannot switch to it. I tried using the DoEvents method on a timer but that had very strange results - the app was responsive but all the functionailty errored out. I read up on message pumps and STA model. Even though its should be an MTA, when I try and do application.run - it forces me to create the MDIFrm as STA or a Treeview control on it will not register drag-drop events. I am not using application.run but have set the MDIForm as startp form (and not set it to run as single instance so it should be STA). I am not using any COM but am using Infragistics 3rd party grid control and dock manager. Both are .Net components and don't require registering. The MDIForm as a treeview, dockmanger and a tablelayout panel prior to opening child forms. Any ideas why this freezing is occurring?     - Installing Windows XP x64 I bought and built a new couputer a few months ago. Part of it was a copy of Windows XP x64 Professional. Every time I have installed the windows I have run into a problem during the Finalizing Installation phase of the installation. During the Saving Settings the installation locks up and stops with a time of 8 or 9 minutes remaining. I have tried switching the CDRom thinking that maybe it was bad. If I just leave it there and see if it will get past it and is just running slow, eventualy the screen saver and eventualy sleep mode kick in and the installation just stops. This WebBrowser instance stays active and is never closed while the application runs. I need advice on how to delete the cookies used by the WebBrowser control. The plan is for the application to "timeout" after a short time (30 seconds) and return to a clean state -- with all cookies from the prior session deleted or cleared, regardless of the expiration dates set on those cookies. I need to clear the cookies used by the WebBrowser instance. I have tried the following with no success: 1. webBrowser1.Document.Cookie = ""; 1.a. webBrowser1.Document.Cookie = null; For both of these, webBrowser1.Document.Cookie was unaltered, it did not change. 2. Parse webBrowser1.Document.Cookie into a System.Web.HttpCookieCollection, then iterate through the cookie collection, setting cookie.Expires to a date prior to today. Then write these cookies back to webBrowser1.Document.Cookie. This resulted in webBrowser1.Document.Cookie having duplicate cookie items, but without expires.     - ClickOnce App Won't Start I've got a client with a computer on which no ClickOnce app will start when run with a URL command line. The OS is Win 2003 Server. If I try to run an app directly from the user's cache (<user dir>\Local Settings\Apps\2.0) it will work. My first thought was a permissions issue. So I added the URL to the 'Trusted Computers' list and upped the permissions for all apps on that list to Full Trust. Still no luck. No error message, nothing in the event logs, just nothing. I've tried uninstalling the apps as well - and I can't uninstall them. Nothing happens when I try. I've also uninstalled/reinstalled the .NET 2.0 runtime. Until recently, the machine had no problems running these apps.     - MenuStrip not showing when form opens Hi, When I run my app, the MenuStrip at the top of the form does not show (actually it's transparent) until I move the form (drag it by at least 1 pixel). Is it a bug? Is there a solution to this behavior? I looked at the menu's events and the form's events, but nothing suspicious, so it must be from a property or a bug... There's no user pointing on the form except from 2 user controls that draw themselves and nothing else so I don't think they can be the source of the problem. So, a known bug? a solution?     - ClickOnce updates and Data folder Hi, I am settings up my application to work with ClickOnce deployment. However, after instlling installing an update, the database doesn't get copied. I tried everything I could think of. It is a SQL Server Express database created in ClickOnce data folder (ApplicationDeployment.CurrentDeployment.DataDirectory). I use User Instances, that is, I connect directly to the database file. So, I install version 0.7.0.0, run it, it creates a new database, I add data to it. Then, I update to version 0.7.1.0. The database doesn't get copied so I loose my data. I made sure the database is detached before updating but it doesn't help. Any ideas? I'm clueless on this one. This is the database that *should* get copied: C:\Documents and Settings\Etienne\Local Settings\Apps\2.0\Data\W596OLLL.TL5\5YR6XOT1.HHP\form...app_dafda4b6e62d7a1b_0000.0000_422f5ed55aef8e45\Data\FormanaDB.mdf (and log file) Also, I create manifests manually using Mage tool because of Visual Studio limitations. btw, I can't find much on google about ClickOnce issues, anybody know of active ClickOnce forums or something? I have a windows forms, which i have published as ClickOnce. I have a
configuartion file. Its a XML file. How do i include the file as a part of
deployement? So that it downloads into the Client machine along with the
installation.
