    - Custom TabContrl and TabStrip Problem Hi, I have a prolem please see if u can suggest something. I am developing a TabControl derived from Control. It consists of other control called TabStrip which is also derived frm control. My TabControl can be aligned vertically or horizontally. When it is horizontal i am docking TabStrip at the Top of the TabControl. When the alignment is changed am docking it at the Right so that it becomes Vertical. When am setting the Alignment of the TabControl to Vertical, the tabstrip is docked to the right inside the TabControl so that the tabs are shown vertically. Now when i am using my TabControl it is working fine in designer mode, when am toggleing between horizontal and vertical. But when i run the application the tabStrip's ( even though it is docked at the Right) location becomes (0,0) and it is show to the Left. Don't know why it's location becomes (0,0) whe i run the applicatiion.??? And whern i click on the Tab then it goes to the Right.     - NullReferenceException in UnsafeNativeMethods.CreateWindowEx Hi all, I have the following situation. I create AppDomains on demand to host winform based controls from C++ host. I'm using .NET 1.1. I tried to do AppDomain.Unload from background thread to free up the main GUI thread and make it more responsive. When I try this, I get the exception, listed below, always on the 3rd AppDomain and control creation. I tried getting SystemEvents through reflection and calling Shutdown manually. This delays the problem. It almost doesn't happen, but still re-appears sometimes. This doesn't reproduce in .NET 2.0 alpha. Is there any way I can work around this bug/limitation? I also would like to know what is being null inside the UnsafeNativeMethods.CreateWindowEx or under what conditions. Maybe I can work around the problem.     - Button swallows keys. Bug? Workaround? The Setup: ================ I have a cardswiper attached to my keyboard, so that when I swipe a card I get "keyboard input" that looks something like: %748a45a1246fbac9d8fdeaf3572f221b? I would like forms in my application to handle these card swipes. To this end, I've made a base Form that sets KeypPeview=true, and that overrides the ProcessDialogKey method. The Bug: ========== This setup works well, except in a few circumestances. One common circumstance is if I have buttons with shortcuts (e.g. a button whose Text attribute is "&add member". Here "a" is a shortcut. I have noticed that if any button on the form has the focus, then "a" is consumed by the button and does not make it to ProcessDialogKey. If something else (like a listbox) has the focus, then I do receive the key in ProcessDialogKey. Does anyone have a solution, an idea, or a workaround? Thanks in advance!     - Proxy servers and embedded windows control in IE Hi there, I have a windows control embedded in a web page using the <object> tag. The control sometimes needs to access an aspx page using HttpWebRequest/Response (aspx page is located on the same web server that the .dll file is located in). This works perfectly when the client is not connecting through a proxy server. When the client is connected to the web via a proxy server, myHttpWebRequest.GetResponse() would fail with a 407 Authentication Required. I realize that any HttpWebRequest object has a Proxy property, but whenever I tried to access it I got a SecurityException (Request for type WebPermission failed). So to temporarily get past this problem, I gave the dll FullTrust for my computer. Now no exception is thrown when I try to access the Proxy property. New problem. I got the proxy information using GetDefaultProxy(). It is able to grab the address for the proxy server because I was able to do MessageBox.Show(proxyObject.Address.ToString()). So I *assume* I have the proxy information. However, when I try to do a myHttpWebRequest.GetResponse(), I still get a 407 Authorization required error. There does not seem to be any login/password for the proxy server... or if there is, I don't know how to find it. So is the cause of the problem because the proxy server thinks that whatever is running the dll (I assume the JIT compiler or whatever) is trying to access the proxy server?     - adding a control to a form I converted a VB6 control to .NET using aximp. The converted control can be added to the toolbox. However, when I tried to add the control onto a form, VS throws the following error: "The .NET assembly 'Name.Interop.mycontrol' could not be found".     - Form scrolling problem I have a child form that has autoscroll set to true. However, when the mdi parent is maximized and the child form is maximized, no scroll bars appear, even though there is more controls and data below the visible area.     - Forms question (.) I've created a custom control. And now I've done something that prevents me from using the designer to layout controls on my custom control. I tried deleting the .resx file, thinking the VS would just regenerate it, but did not. Here's how I got the problem: I created a new user control. I called it BaseControl. I created another new user control. I called it DerivedControl. After VS generated the .cs file, I changed the base class to BaseControl. EG: public class BaseControl : System.Windows.Forms.Control public class DerivedControl : BaseControl Now I am unable to add controls to DerivedControl using the designer.     - Change Cursor over ActiveX control Hello, I am trying to build a form that can display HTML content in the background and various controls in the foreground. I am able to achieve this using the WebBrowser activex and adding foreground controls to the form. So far everything is ok. My problem is that I want to control the Cursor over the controls and the background. Since the WebBroser (my background) is an activex, I cannot control it's cursor! I had also problems in this configuration with mouse events, but thanks to you guys that one is now solved with IMessageFilter.     - Problem: HowTo update UI from workerThread? Hi! I want to update an userinterface from a background thread. I think that a good way to do this is to use to use methodinvoker in UI-thread and then begininvoke in workerThread to pass parameters back and update the UI. But i have one question.     - Microsoft Application Block pattern Long shot but here goes..... I am developing a vb.net application using the MS application block pattern, available @ http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/dnpag/html/uipab-ch03.asp And I have developed some views that derive of Microsoft.ApplicationBlocks.UIProcess.WindowsFormView BUT I am unable to get any key press events, I want to stop the user pressing the Alt+F4 key to close the application, I can do this in a normal application very easily so don't bother replying with a simple example, what I want to know is why I'm not getting the events when using the application block patterm? the application block is written in C# and I have tried overriding the the KeyDown method in the application block but don't get any event being caught there either.     - TabControl - change the tab shapes and appearances? I have tried without success (using C#) to change the standard rectangular tabs (for the TabPages) to look like the ones in Messenger - funky curved jobs. However whenever I try to overwrite an existing tab, either by superimposing a bitmap over it, or by manually drawing a new shape with the Graphics methods, the standard rectangular tab outline always shows through. I captured both the DrawItem and Paint events. I saw a partial solution in Code Project, which used a wrapper DLL around UxThemes.dll, but this involves installing this extra DLL with my product.     - Disposed forms problem I have a simple problem: In calling form: Private _theForm As MyFormClass() ' in a button click event... If theForm Is Nothing Then theForm = New MyFormClass() End If theForm.Show() The problem is if I close theFrom, then click the button of the calling form again, theForm Is Nothing will evaluate to False (meaning it's a valid reference), yet when theForm.Show() executes, I get an exception "Cannot access disposed object named 'theForm'" Even if I call Dispose on the called form when it's closed, the problem doesn't go away. I thought it was just some garbage collection issue but calling GC.Collect/WaitForPendingFinalizers before theForm.Show() does not make any difference. As a workaround, I could trap the exception in a try block but I was hoping for a more elegant solution, like simply inspecting a property.     - Data Conversion in a grid I have a custom grid control and I'm stuck on an issue in the data binding. Using a method similar to the DataGridColumnStyles class, I have a column style class that allows you to map the bound datasource fields to the grid columns. I've added a Format property which will take a format string such as "{0:C}" which will then convert the underlying data to a currency string. This works very nicely. The problem is when the user goes in and edits data. Let's say that a column has the above currency format string and the data in the cell is $4.45 If the user changes the value, I need to then update the data source. I need to handle the situation where the user puts in either $4.50 or 4.50 and be able to properly convert it back to the underlying type. Is there an easy way to do this without doing a huge case statement for all the different data types? The underlying data can, of course, be of any type. In the grid it's represented as a string. All I have is the format string to know about formatting. I'd rather not have to parse the format string to figure out how to parse the underlying data.     - Convert Access application to .NET? I have a small-medium sized Access application that is poorly written. My choices are to either rewrite large parts of the Access app so that it functions reasonably well, or to convert the whole thing to .NET. Not being an Access developer, the .NET approach seems most natural, but I want to do the right thing for the client (even if I end up giving away the contract). I posted on the Access forum and got the impression that my fears about Access being an unstable piece of junk were unfounded, and that most of the things that need to be done in this type of application could be done quickly and easily in Access and the rest could be coded as one would do in any other environment (just have to give up the "free" things that Access provides).     - Preventing forms from showing up before their layout is completed Hi, When my forms show up (i.e. visible set to true), they show up immediatly while their components (labels etc...) are still being displayed. This gives the application a very unprofessional feeling. I would like to know if there's a command to fix that.     - Complex properties in custom controls I have a control, let's call it MyControl. One of the properties of MyControl is MyControlStyle. MyControlStyle is a class with a number of properties. MyControl always has a valid instance of MyControlStyle (it is instantiated in the field declaration). In the property grid, I want to lay out the items in MyControlStyle when someone selects a MyControl on the form. They are all simple data types and don't require any sort of custom designers or anything in themselves. How do I get the properties of MyControlStyle to show up in the property grid without duplicating the properties in MyControl.     - WinForms, Events, and Subscribers Background -------------------------- I am in the process of creating a WinForms app with many forms. I have a set of forms that all subscribe to events on a custom object. When the forms are created I manually create a subscription in the form to one or more events in the custom object. (BTW, this is the same design pattern used by IssueVision discussed at DevDays). I have a controller form (MDI parent) that determines which child form is currently being viewed. When a new child form is selected, the current child form is manually closed [using Form.Close()] and disposed [using Form.Dispose()] and then the new form is shown. This keeps only one child form open at a time. Question -------------------------- Even after child forms are closed and disposed, when events are raised from the custom object, the events are still triggered in the disposed child forms. Could someone explain why this is happenning? I must be misunderstanding something. Do the child forms need to manually unsubscribe from the events in the Closing event?     - Need advice on making a MessageBox replacement I'm looking to make an enhanced MessageBox. I want to make it work very much like the regular MessageBox as far as developers are concerned, so I'd like to use the Show() method to display it. However, I want it displayed modally, which we normally achieve with ShowDialog(). Is there a way that the called form can force itself to display modally, or can you think of another way I can do this? Another question I have is about icons. I want to pass a standard MessageBoxIcon enum to the Show() method and then display the OS-specific icon that was requested. In other words, it'll look different on XP than on 2000. To this end I can't simply stick a graphic in my assembly. I can probably figure out how to DRAW the icon myself, it's RETRIEVING it from the system that's beyond me right now. Suggestions?     - DataGrid Refresh problem I have a data grid refresh problem. I have a few columns and the first column is data in the form of numbers. And in the form of the data grid if I specify for example something like a code(in a text box) the column of numbers should change colors depending on whether the number was in the specified code(if it belongs to the code, color the cell (first column) in Red and if not in some other color). It all works out fine until I scroll up/down and trigger the paint event. The changed colurs seem to be changed. I want the refreshing to be done for all records for that column, but it seems it only refreshes parts of the datagrid.
