However, I do not want everybody to be able to look straight into the content of each list. I need to be able to limit anonymous access to a certain webpages only, and have the rest authenticated for admin purposes.     - Changing the Site Owner Email Address--HELP! When I created my WSS sites I used an administrator account and my email address for the owner information. I am trying to change the original email address (which is mine) to a generic email address that several people can monitor and so I won't receive the emails that WSS generates. I cannot figure out how to do this correctly. I have done the following: 1)Went to the Manage Web Sites Users page in the WSS Administration and added a new administrator account with the generic email address. 2)I then went to the Manage Site Collections Owner screen in the WSS Administration and put in the url in the Web Site URL field. 3)I changed the Site Collection Owner to the new userid and clicked on Check Name. It did verify the account was okay. 4)I then went into my WSS Team Site as a user that did not have security rights to a doc library. I got the error screen that sends an email to request access. The email still goes to me rather than the generic email address! I would appreciate any help in changing this email address. This is driving me crazy that I cannot figure this out!     - Need a better group calendar for WSS Hello, I've been wondering if anyone knows of a professional add-on or template for Sharepoint, that implment a better calnedar than the existing "events" list. Web group calendars like Yahoo, MyEvents and even MSN - all offer basic features like reminders and sharing privacy (I can see the meeting details only if I'm invited. If not I see a "busy" space). These 2 features are quite essential for managing an effective calendar, and I wonder if there's an extension to Sharepoint that answer this need.     - Adding alot of static documents to a WSS site I have a large number (20-50 GB) of reference documents that I need to add to a WSS project site. These documents are for research only and will not be edited, but they will be used in the collaboration process. I have considered hosting these files on a separate website and having the content indexed by the SP portal server (with the crawl for these documents running much less frequently than for the portal and WSS sites), but I would like to use a more integrated approach. I don't want to stick these documents in a document library because their content is indexed much more frequently and this would drasticly increase the size of the content DB.     - Web site not opening Hello, I installed WSS using the download availabel on microsoft site at the following link http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=efdc7227-549c-4de1-a063-783f71a8bb2b&DisplayLang=en After installation I created a Virtual server with the default content database. This site was used by our CIO for storing some documents. We were thinking of moving the site to a more powerful server from a PCC server(PC Convert ). So prior to purchsing the server I wanted to copy the VS to another server on trial basis. I searched the same and came across a document that would help me do this. I was supposed to detach the database and take a back up of the same and then reattach it. Then take a back up of the site using staadm. I did the same. After reattaching the database I tried backing the site I got an error <<Unable to get global configuration data>>. I tried accessing the site the same error. To solve this problem I searched the KB and found the following article Article ID : 900499 Last Review : July 12, 2005 Revision : 1.0 I followed the suggested solution but to no result. I even tried Article ID : 832770 Last Review : September 8, 2004 Revision : 1.1 and changed the application pool identity. No use. Another thing that i noticed was that the content database that has been attached to the virtual server shows 0 web sites in the current web site column when viewed from the central administration -> Manage Virtual Server -> Manage content database. Can someone help me with two things:- Where the documents saved in the document library are stored. Is there any way to find and save these documents to a new location.     - New WSS Templates in ISP Hosted Enviornment I am working with a neighborhood center that is trying to setup a public website based on WSS. They have signed up with an ISP that offers WSS. However, we are running into two problems trying to configure the site to use one of the new templates. The ISP is unsure of how to deploy the template to our top-level site. They have somewhat successfully (see below) made the template available to subsites. The content of the template is displayed (lists, sample items, etc.). However, the design scheme (colors, graphics, etc.) are not applied. It looks just like a standard WSS site. Since my only experience with SharePoint is in a single server scenario (and I assume they have one of the more involved server farm setups), I'm not sure what, if any, direction to give them in making this work correctly.     - Service Unavailable on restart - no logon server... We have 3 servers that we are running Windows Sharepoint Services and/or Portal (2003) on. This scenerio happens on all of them. On restart - we get the "service unavailable" from Sharepoint Portal 2003 website. Log events show a failure to login (see below). IIS's CentralAdminAppPool is running, but MSSharePointPortalAppPool is stopped. Manually starting MSSharePointPortalAppPool starts the website running again. DNS Servers are running Win2K. Anyone know what might be causing the login failure and how we can fix it?     - Copying a discussion group to another discussion group Hi, I have 2 WSS sites they are not connected in a portal in any way one is a test and the other is live. We recently decided to recreate the structure of our site. The new structure was built entirely on the test site. We intend to wipe the live site and upgrade the hard drives etc... once done we are going to backup the new structure and restore on the upgraded server. I can download all the documents stored in the Shared Documents folder as versioning was not turned on, then upload them to the new site. There are however some items that are in a particular discussion group on the old WSS site that I need to keep along with all its threads. Is it possible to backup just the discussion group and then restore to a new rebuilt site? If what I have written does not make any sense, let me know and I will try to elaborate further...     - Accessing External Data from a List Is it at all posible to access external data from a wss list? I have made up a simple issue tracking solution using WSS. The system runs great. But would work better if I was able to import data into the list from another application. Example: A client calls up with an issue. The tech looks up their client information from SQL using a web based front end we made. They then have to input that same information into the issue tracking list in wss.     - Accumulated values in surveys Hi, is it possible to accumulate values on a sharepoint survey column when the field is numeric (integer). The standard reports on surveys do appearently not support this function. My workaround is to export the answers of the survey to an excel spreadsheet and then apply the SUM function on the column containing the numeric value.     - Site works from server but not other machines. Running WSS quite happily and then a while back discovered that users cannot add/delete any content. (The page displays fine, but if you click on a link to DO something it just ends up timing out and giving the page not found error).     - Edit in Datasheet Hi, I get the following error message when trying to switch to Datasheet view in a DL, "The list cannot be displayed in Datasheet view for one or more of the following reasons: A datasheet component compatible with Windows SharePoint Services is not installed, your browser does not support ActiveX controls, or support for ActiveX controls is disabled."     - User rights for Subsite stop working Using latest WSS (SP1): According to the subsite user rights page, the users have at least read rights to the site. They do NOT have rights to the parent site. The problem is, when the user tries to access the subsite, it asks for a password. When they send an access request form, the email indicates they're requesting access to the parent site instead of the child site. I must have changed something because this is a new problem.
