    - sharepoint: file locked issue Hi all, I had a weird case, once a while a checked out spreadsheet, during editing, Excel frozen up, then the file gets locked up. Is it share point problem or because Excel corrupt, then it locks the file. Any Excel always corrupt when using with sharepoint, and it never corrupt for local spreadsheet editing. please advise.     - Site Actions Problem I recently used smigrate to move some content as a template over to a new server etc etc. Running WSS 3.0. I have created a site eg /site and if I go to Site Actions--->Create I get the usual list of Libraries, Communications, Tracking, Custom Lists and Web Pages. However, if i goto /site/migratedweb, and then to Site Actions--- >Create, I only get Tracking and Custom Lists where tracking only contains Agenda. (This web is a team meeting one). All the others such as the ability to create a document library or discussion board are missing. If I create a new web (team meeting one) under /site/newweb and then go to Site Actions--->Create, I get all of this.     - listbox databind problem web part. Hi, I have rather a simple webpart that has a listbox with two buttons - one to add users and other to remove users. I am calling Usergroup.asmx webservice for getting the info in the listbox. When i select an item in listbox and click delete, the list box is not refreshing with new data(deleted data)... I am kind of surprised at this rather strange behavior..     - SharePoint Designer/Frontpage/WSS question I was never a big user of Frontpage but Designer plays a huge role in MOSS/WSS 3. So, I have the following question: If you use SPD to create a folder arbitrarily in the structure of a WSS site and then start stuffing files, e.g. images, aspx pages, etc., how are they treated by WSS? Are the files content? Is everything handled by the safe mode parser? Since the files have to be in the contentdb, I expect they're backed up with the site.     - Windows authentication after session expiry Hi, I am using WSS 3.0 for my site development. For this, i want that at the time of initial login it sohuld not ask for Windows Authentication (Should use looged in user's credentials). Now, i have set up a timeout of 1minute for my site. If 1minue of inactivity is there then i want to show the Login Screen again (Windows Authentication) and then redirect to the same page where user was originally working e.g. if user is at Mypage.aspx and login session expires, then on session_start, it should ask for Login Credentials and then go to Mypage.aspx again. I have been able tosetup the timeout period and on Session_Start, i am trying to redirect it to Authenticate.aspx. Now the problem is that, i have not been able to distinguish between the initial login and login after session expiry. Also when i use authenticate.aspx, it tries to authenticate user for 3times i.e. asks the credentials for 3times. Please help me in solving this problem.     - Daylight saving modificatio and testing Hi We are trying to patch the new daylight saving definition to our us sharepoint server. We go for the method by modifying the xml file. Due to insufficient experience dealing with timezone problems, we are required to create some test case to make sure the new definition work. Can anyone help to provide some idea how should I test if the patch work?     - Receive "Cannot connect to the configuration database" when attempting to install a new web part I've create a new web part. I'm trying to install this web part on a Sharepoint Portal Server 2003 instance. In my development environment, Sharepoint is set up on a single server with SQL Server 2000 on the same box. I can install the web part just fine there. On the production instance, Sharepoint is set up different. SQL Server 2000 is on a separate box. Using the same steps (as I do on the development instance), I get a "cannot connect to the configuration database" error message. As far as I know, everything else on the production Sharepoint instance is working just fine. I've seen the troubleshooting steps at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/ 823287/en-us. On the web server, the app pool identity is set to "NETWORK SERVICE". On the SQL Server 2000 instance, the "NETWORK SERVICE" account is not a member of any of the roles listed in the knowledge base article. If I add the SQL Server 2000 instance's 'NETWORK SERVICE" account to the proper roles, would that fix my problem? Do I need to create another account that is the same for both servers?     - WSS - Error using stsadm "-o deletesite", (corrupted site?) I am having an issue with a site collection on my sharepoint server. I used stsadm.exe with the -o createsite parameter to create a blank corporate IT test site on our intranet (http://intranet/sites/corporateIT2). Before the command was finished running however, the command window was closed by accident. Now when I go to enumsites for http://intranet, I get the following entry among the others: <Site Url="http://intranet/sites/corporateIT2" Error="There is no Web named "/sites/corporateIT2"."> If I try to run stsadm.exe -o deletesite or -o backup with the CorprorateIT2 url, I get: "The system cannot find the path specified" If I try to run: stsadm.exe -o deletepath with the CorporateIT2 url, I get: "The managed path you specified does not exist" If I try to run: stsadm.exe -o restore -url http://intranet/sites/corporateIT2 -filename -overwrite from a backup I have of the production corporate IT site I get: "The Web site address "http://intranet/sites/corporateIT2" is already in use" If I try to access the site through a browser, I get: 400 error, "Bad Request" At this point, I'm just trying to clean up/delete the http://intranet/sites/corporateIT2 path/site that I've created. It's not hurting much right now as the intranet is still a development platform, and no one needs the corporateIT2 url, but I want to get a better picture of what's going on and how to fix it moving forward.     - Issue upgrading Sharepoint 2003 sp2 to MOSS 2007 trial version I downloaded the trial version of MOSS 2007 until my CD and license comes in. I have a test environment with 1 server which is the front end webserver, the 2nd server is the job server and indexer and the 3rd server is running SQL 200 sp4. In my actual environment its a 3 server farm as opposed to the 2 server farm I have in my test environment. I ran all windows updates on all 3 boxes including grabbing the DST update for Sharepoint 2003. I ran the prescan.exe and cleared all errors. I installed .NET 3.0 on both the front end and job/indexer. I also enabled .NET 2.0 in IIS.I upgraded the frontend first without running the config wizard. I then upgraded the job/index server second and stopped at running the config wizard.     - IE Locks when trying to access Sharepoint I posted this on the portal server group and thought I'd try over here too. I have several members on my team with an issue when trying to access our sharepoint site. IE will show one bar on the progress bar, but lock up and I have to end program to get out. It doesn't even get to the login popup. They can get to other internal and external websites. They can login in to the sharepoint site from other PCs. Here's what I've tried: 1. Delete all temp files 2. I can ping the server from a command prompt 3. I can get the the sharepoint site through firefox (although we have no functionality) 4. I removed all the webparts on the opening page - still nothing 5. I added the website to their trusted sites. 6. I've matched all the security settings to my PC. Nothing changed on their machines to cause this. I even get it on my machine from time to time, but once I end program and restart IE, I can get in. Any suggestions?     - Smigrate and Original Site I have a WSS 2.0 sp2 (6.0.28117) server. It's a single server with the config and content DBs on another server running SQL 2000 sp4. We're looking at upgrading to WSS 3.0 and to do so wanted to setup a test environment. Smart aye? :) So I created a backup using the smigrate tool. Setup a new server, installed WSS 2.0 and patched it to the same version. Re-created all the sites without templates. Setup all the databases like on the original server but pointing at a different SQL server (2005 in this instance). I copied the smigrate backup files over to the new server and ran the tool to restore to the new web. as in http://site2 instead of http://site1 It all seemed to work just fine except that after running the tool, my ORIGINAL sharepoint site gives a 404 Bad Request error. For the life of me, I see no reason why the 2 would be connected but that is the only change done to that server recently. Help would be appreciated.     - Alternate url synchronizer job error I'm recieving this error every 60 seconds in the Windows Application log the specifics of which are below. This is on a server hosting a MOSS installation of an upgraded v2 SPS portal. These WSS errors are new and I'm getting MOSS errors of the same type as well. I've had this MOSS portal up since before the RTM release and I believe they're related to the re-direct mechanism deployed when upgrading from SPS to MOSS associated with Areas being converted to sub sites within the site collection. I'm unaware of any changes that I've made that could possibly be related but clearly something has changed. Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated. I've been reading and reading for days and I see a lot of different posts and doc's but none that seem to address my particular situation. I have a server 2003 box with wss v 2.0 and sql 2000 on it and it seems to be dying. I would like to move my exsisting installations to a new server. The server will be a completely different machine, with different hard drive set-up and with a different box name and domain. I would like to create a customer survey response from our CRM tool, passing it the event reference number. So, for example, we'd automatically send an email to the user inviting them to complete the survey at the following URL; http://edn-web-02/sites/ServiceCentre/Lists/InternalIncidentSurvey/NewForm.aspx?THE-INCIDENT-IS=12345 And the last bit (I know the syntax is wrong!) would update one of the columns in the survey response.     - Using Sharepoint's Windows explorer funtion not working with Vista Hi I have been using sharepoint 3.0 with my clinet PC running XP pro and office 2007 beta2 for some time now and have been using the document folder browsing trough windows explorer feature on a daily basis as it have been working great for me! But when I upgraded to Vista and Office 2007 this does not work anymore! I can syncronize a document folder trough Outlook but when I click on "open in windows explorer" trough the WSS 3.0 web page nothing happens! Its really frustrating that this does not work anymore!     - Sharepoint supported in AD 2000 and Exchange 2000 - incoming email Hi, Are WSS3 and also MOSS2007 supported in an Active Directory 2000 domain with Exchange Server 2000?? I've tried to enable incoming email in both WSS3 and MOSS2007, but both seems to have the same issue. I've setup incoming email as described (also followed the guidelines from other people like the Whitepaper on Combined Knowledge), but without any luck. When I create a distribution group with email address (without creating new list) and want to approve the creation of Distribution group, I get an error.     - SPImport Problems Hi All, I'm trying to programmatically move a site from one SiteCollection to another using the SPExport and SPImport APIs. I'm able to successfully do it through stsadm.exe -o export (and import) commands, but I'm not able to import the exported file using the API. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong and I thought there might be someone that could help. Here're the stsadm commands I'm using that work successfully: stsadm.exe -o export -url http://vpc-joelmoss/sites/myfirstsitecollection -filename c:\test\test.crm -includeusersecurity -versions 4 stsadm.exe -o import -url http://vpc-joelmoss/newrootsite -filename c:\test\test.crm -includeusersecurity These work without any issues.     - Change time interval in custom list We have a custom list in Sharepoint. In a column we use the type Date and Time. The time field seems to be limited to 5 minutes interval (0.5,10,15,20,25,30,35,40,45,50,55) We would change this to 1 minute instead. Is there a way to change this?     - WSS Dispaly issue This is a rather weir issue I've had before. I have three sections on our welcome page created as list. A Message of the day list, alert list, and company news list. For some reason for one user only the company news section is missing. I've seen this in the past and I had to basically delete the user and recreat etthe account and this solved the problem.     - Save site as template "Include content" missing Hi, I'm fairly new to sharepoint but have managed to set up a main site which contains a meeting workspace. I've added several users to the antendees list and defind a few agenda points. I'd now like to save this site as a template, including the list content. After, import and setting up some choice fields I tried the export to excel function and it worked properly. Then, i set some required field validations. Note some rows did not have data in some of these required fields.     - Can't edit document or create new document I have a user who just changed to a new workstation with Vista and Office 2003. Prior to changing to the new workstation, the user could create new documents and edit old documents from the Sharepoint site. Now the only way the user can edit a document is to open it from within Word.     - Login dialog comes again and again for reader The problem is seems to be with priviledge issue. We used WSS 2.0. I'm the administrator of a share point site, and when I am trying to use the Reader priviledge to allow users to view, but they are requested to login, which fails.     - Removing membership of sites I create Hey Usually when I create a team site on sharepoint, I do so by logging into the admin user and making it that way. WHen logged in as admin I then see all the team sites available, as usual. A couple of times recently I've created some sites using my own account - to my horror they are now displayed on my 'My Teams' list. Even after removing myself as a user for those sites, they still show and I still have membership of them as I created them. How can I stop this so that only designated users can go in and I can't?     - move WSS v3 to 'Default' website? I'm a total newbie when it comes to WSS and am stumbling along at light speed! Anyways I did have WSS v2 and FP Extensions running together - kinda ok - and decided to upgrade to WSS v3. Rather than spend days trying to figger' why the last part of the WSS v3 upgrade kept failing I uninstalled FP Extensions, uninstalled WSS v2, rebooted and did the v3 install after the reboot. It worked - or, at least installed - just fine. However the new v3 Site is subfoldered way down below the original Default Web site and I had to manually change the 'Default Website' port to anything other than 80 to prevent conflict. Is there any way I can make the WSS v3 relocate to be the real 'Default Website' or, should I just totally uninstall IIS and start from scratch - it's a good time to do it.. I also appear to seem to have to log on with \default.aspx at the end of the URL rather than just the URL. I get the authentication box when I log on from the internet but, after I put in username and password I get the 'page not found'. If I put in default.aspx at the end of the URL it works just fine. I'm a newbie here and somehow this just doesn't seem - the best - install? and I don't want to right click and delete the Default Website because of the WSS v3 site default install beneath...     - Sharepoint server not seeing contentdb? When I enumerate users on a Sharepoint site (stsadm.exe -o enumusers) I get a different list from what's in the contentdb. Now this all started when restoring a contentdb from a backup. It was a restore of a site but for long complicated reasons the site, which lives on a different server, had to be created from scratch, and the old contentdb used. To get it all to work we had to change various IDs in the contentdb using queries in Enterprise Manager. The Sharepoint administrator gui had been told to use the contentdb, but something, somewhere, isn't marrying them up. The portal uses AD Creation mode. Somewhere the users on the WSS 2.0 server aren't married up with the contentdb and/or their AD objects, because deleting them and changing passwords via the portal itself doesn't affect the contentdb properly. Does anyone know what the relationship between the 3 elements are and where to change it. Also, best practice for restoring the DB using Enterprise manager .baks or backup exec sql backups? Is it vital that the original site be restored? Or is creating the IIS instance from scratch with an old contentdb possible, and if so how?     - WSS 3.0 accessing via anonymous and mobile browser I've setup a WSS 3.0 site and granted anonymous access to the entire site. I've also added a Task list and granted it special rights to allow anonymous users to add, edit and delete that list. It works fine in IE and Firefox when using the primary web interface (http:// website), but if I use the mobile web interface (http://website/m) it asks for credentials when I try and access that list. in this moment we have SharePoint 2.0 with companywebs migrated into SQL
2005. I want to install WSS v 3.0 on our SBS 2003 R2 SP1 Premium PL server as
a side-be-side installation according to Microsofts whitepaper. I have
problem on Step 2 point 4b â??On the Server type tab, ensure that Stand-alone
is selectedâ?? because Stand-alone option is not allowed. The â??web front endâ??
is only one active option. What is reason? Anyone know what can I do?

This looks as if it could be a problem specific to SBS 2003.

Post it to the SBS newsgroup at microsoft.public.windows.server.sbs

We deal with standard WSS 2.0 to 3.0 upgrades here (that is runnning on
Windows 2003 Server and not involving companyweb). We also don't know about
the process of installing WSS 3.0 alongside WSS 2.0 *in a SBS 2003
environment* which is the subject of one MS paper (perhaps the one you
mean?).
