    - Accessing internal site remotely? I have SBS2003 installed and running. I have an internal website setup and running SPS. Internaly it all works great. But how do you or is there a way to set it up to acess the site remotely with https? I can go in through the SSL connection and use the remote desktop or server connections links and logon to one of the local machines and access the page but I am unable to pull off the website directly from the default page after you logon. It says site cannot be found. I would normaly think that the link had the wrong information listed but it is listed like it would be if you were logged on locally. I want to be able to access the local SharePoint services company site remotely without making it a public site....like updating the calendar and documents when your not on the local lan.     - Powerpoint documents hang on download We have recently installed WSS and some, but not all, Powerpoint documents cause IE and Powerpoint to hang when downloading.     - Any idea when we'll see WSS V3? Hi all, I've looked all over and the most accurate(?) info I can see on V3 is that the second beta is now out. I guess it's a closed beta programme cos there's no hint that I can download the code, even with my MSDN Enterprise subscription. A bit of info that worries me is that Microsoft have some (incredibly basic) info on "Office Sharepoint Server 2007" so I hope this doesn't mean that WSS V3 will not be available till next year.     - Avoid double entry in event calendar Hi, I have a bunch of meeting rooms that can be booked via a SharePoint event calendar. Each meeting room has its own calendar and requires approval by a content manager. I want to avoid users from adding an event on a date/time that is already booked.     - Email enable doc lib SBS/SP Ive followed all the instructions on enabling public folder mailbox and SP but the mail/attach dont arrive in the SP doc lib. The mail items are in the public/folder in exchange!! Somewhere I read that the client permissions on the public/folder need to have added the SP profile. But my snapin only shows users! and not profiles. I tried giving "anonymous" full access to the client permissions in exchange for the public/folder but still SP doesnt collect the items. I did configure the virtual server and the SP site itself, which all seemed straightforward. Any ideas on any Gotcha's or a way of testing, fault finding.     - Recover SPS to SQL Server from Desktop Engine data Greetings, I have a bit of a mess and before starting anew I thought I'd give the experts a go. I had a nicely functioning SPS site until I tried to upgrade my SBS server to SP1. The upgrade failed, as did the backout. Apparently my backup did not include system state so I could not recover. Since then I've rebuilt the SBS and installed SP1 as well as SQL Server. I have the following data files available: ----.STS_config.mdf ----.STS_config.log.ldf ----.sts_server2_1.mdf ----.sts_server2_1.log.ldf I've created a new SharePoint site on SQL Server with a name of httP://companyweb/default.asp which is different from the old one. My question is .. can i import these files into the new site and get back to where I was? FYI, I'm running SBS2003, SQL Server Thanks, in advance for the help.     - Meeting workspace error Hi, I have a meeting workspace associated with a regular weekly meeting. I added dates to my weekly meeting and tried to link them to my existing meeting workspace, but I get the message that there are no meeting workspaces to link to. If I enter the URL of the meeting workspace used by the previous two meetings, it tries to create a new one and give an error message. Can anyone help? This is urgent.     - Advanced Site Group Rights I would like to customize a site group but not in the normal way. I know I can create a new group etc and change as I'd like but I would like to have a group with certain permissions. Example : Instead of Manage List Permissions - Grant, deny, or change user permissions to a list. I would like Manage List Permissions - Grant or deny user permissions to a list.     - Office Web Parts and Outlook -- Weird Error Hi, I have created a SharePoint page that has a document library in it and 3 office web parts (pivot charts) that are hitting a sql database. When I view the page stand-alone (via URL) or clicking the link in SharePoint the web page works fine. However, I also want this page to show up in Outlook 2003. I have taken my folder and chosen "Properties" and pasted the URL into the space provided. However, when I access the page via Outlook, the document library works but I am getting errors that are related to the Office Web Parts. It is saying: ******** Web page outlook://PathToFile is unavailable offline. To make this page available offline, connect to the Internet, click the Favorites menu, click Add to Favorites, and then select the Make available offline check box. ******** Problem is that I am not offline and even if I do what it says, it does nothing.     - linking outlook to meeting workspace Some weeks ago, I created a recurring meeting in Outlook and (from Outlook) was able to create a linked meeting workspace. Then the meeting was cancelled so I deleted it from Outlook. Of course the data in the meeting workspace was still there, just no longer linked to any Outlook meeting. Now I have a need to re-establish this recurring meeting. I created the new Outlook meeting and then attempted to "link to an existing workspace" but the drop-down box of workspaces shows "None found". I tried each choice in "Select a location" (even "Other" then typed in the base URL to my pre-existing meeting workspace) but have had no luck. How could I link to this existing meeting workspace?     - Disk Space Hi, I have windows 2003 small business server and we are using team services for 15 people. The PC has 80 Gigs of space partiant (20 Gigs C: and 60 Gigs D:).     - We are experiencing several issues involving STS, SQL, and IIS 1. We cannot run maintenance plans and therefore we can not use SQL automated backups and maintenance tasks. 2. We can not use SQL Enterprise Manager over the network to connect to the database. If we install anything under the network parameters the site then refuses connections. 3. The search function in SharePoint is not working. The full text function is installed in SQL and the searh function button is checked. The database is installed as a single instance in IIS and is not installed as a farm. Should it be installed as a farm? If so, is there a way to either migrate this installation, or do we need to do a new install with a restore from a sharepoint backup? Are these issues related to the IIS database being installed as a single install instead of as a farm, or is this a characteristic that is inherent to setting up this type of configuration of WSS and SQL?     - slow authentication time I have Sharepoint Services and have setup anonymous access. If you go to the site it is really fast. If you try and authenticate it is really slow. 10-15 seconds each request of anything. Any ideas? Also what would be the best way to set this up for people to connect?     - Restoring WSS from Content database backup only..... Hey guys, I have recently received the task of restoring a WSS website. The original server which contained the WSS top-level site has been moved to a new server (better hardware) and the only backup of the WSS site is a content Database STS_SERVER_1 and config database which I suspect we won't need. I know that you can add content DB's to an already extended WSS site but how do you then retrieve the old site content (documents, images etc..). The old URL was http://companyName.... my best guess would be to extend a new website with the exact same URL (host header)? When I create a new website how would I exactly go about pointing that website to my old content database..(extend and map??) I am not sure how or where to access the old site content... My question is with only the WMSDE content Database (no stsadm.exe backup) how do I restore that and retrieve the content. Any help would be greatly appreciated!     - Home Link missing on navbar One of our senior mangers has some how managed to "remove" the Home link one navbar on the "_layouts/1033/viewlsts.aspx" page. However...it is only on one site. sSnce this page is located in the layouts catalogue I find it kind of strange cause he shouldnt have access to change anything there, which of course also would affect other sites. Since I cant just fix up the site with FP I'm wondering how and where to fix this, and I'm also wondering how this can have happend??? It also seems that every new doclib or list created under this site inherits this behaviour in the AllItems.aspx for the given list or doclib...     - asks for login for viewing web sites Hi all, I have installed WSS 2 on my virtual server with SQL Server 2005 as default database. Every thing went fine and I chose the windows authentication while selecting the database and application pool etc. For the application pool, I chose an existing application pool which is StsAdminAppPool(NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE). I have successfully made the configuration and one default content database. But when I wanted to see my first default web site it asks me for the username and password which I never set for anything. I do have a username for my virtual machine but I never set a password for that. It asks for a username and password to connect to virtual server so that I can view the default site. I do have the administrator rights for every thing. I don't know which password and username it is asking for? Can anyone suggests me what should I do now? As far as I think the problem is that I should have chosen CentralAdminAppPool instead of StsAdminAppPool. Does anyone know how I change that now if that's the problem? My customer has a small office (5 PCS 8 users) and needs all users to note down Telephone calls with owners (Timeshare Complex) and generally have an online database of owners details, which then could be printed out say when a page of A4 the notes fill an an A4 page.     - can't add groups Whenever I try to add groups from AD into site permissions, the group is always auto-expanded into the individuals names in the box. WSS won't let me add groups, just users.     - Sharepoint User authentication.. Hi, I have Microsoft SharePoint question that someone might have answer for. I have Windows Server 2003, SharePoint portal, Business Intelligence (BI) portal, and Analysis Service installed on same PC. I have one admin login (administrator) and other non-admin logins (user1, user2) created. In Analysis Service cube, I have two roles (role and role2) that have access to only certain dimensions in cube. Added user1 to role1 and user2 to role2. When I browse cube using Analysis service, this role based security is working fine and data is viewed as per security permissions for user1 and user2. On SharePoint, I have created a Business Intelligence (BI) Portal that accesses the same cube as outlined above. I am logging into machine as Administrator and logging onto IIS/SharePoint as User1. However, when I browse the cube through SharePoint/BI Portal, my role based security defined in analysis service for user1 is not working and I get to see all data. Instead, I should be able to see only that data that user1 has access to because I am connecting to IIS/SharePoint as user1 (logged onto machine as administrator though). If I login machine as user1 (and not administrator), login to IIS/SharePoint as user1 and then view cube through SharePoint-BI Portal, I see only that data that user1 has access to. So, the security is not working when login to machine as administrator but login to IIS/SharePoint as user1/user2.     - Join two lists in SharePoint for one view of data I have two lists each containing a Project ID key. List A contains project data that only the PMO may update. The project ID key is established in this list. List B contains project status information that the PM's update. The project ID field in this list is populated via a look-up from List A. Where can I find step-by-step, very easy instructions on how to "join" these two lists, based on the common Project ID field, to create a view that contains data from both lists? There is a one-to-one relationship between the entries in these lists. It seems that creating one view with data from both lists should be very easy to do; but I have been unable to find any easy instructions that I could follow. I am not a programmer.     - Database restore, both from same and different server Here's the problem. Production WSS is working, but a web part has a memory leak. In order to try and debug, I am trying to restore content database from production to a development server. Development server is fairly new and only had a few test sites created by hand, not the 3-4 hundred in production. I've had all kinds of problems trying to restore this data. Here is the setup. PRODUCTION WSS SP1 with security fix on Server 2003 Standard with 1 virt server running site (2GB memory 3.4 Xeon HP server) SQL server 2000 exclusively for SharePoint DEVELOPMENT WSS SP2 on Server 2003, Pentium M laptop with 1GB memory and SQL Server 2000 Production is fine except for a poorly written web part. My problem is restoring db from production to development. Here is what I have done so far: (SQL Server 2000 SP4 already installed) 1) Backed up both Config and Content database from production 2 Restored back up content db over top of a default content db created when first virtual server extended (that virtual server was removed, so just reused db) I'm not really familiar with SQL Server, so this might have been a mistake 3) Installed WSS SP2 4) This automatically extended a default virtual server (fine) 5) I kept default config db (was this smart?) and just tried to add the new content db that I just restored 5) Received the following error message The account being used by Windows SharePoint Services to connect to database 'STS_standard-zzwskt_1_25040' on server 'STANDARD-ZZWSKT\SharePoint' is not the database owner (DBO). For more information, please refer to Knowledge Base article 841216 at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=45207. Looked over KB article. Searched group here and read about every discussion about restoring databases. I am using an AppPool with Windows Authentication and Network Service as the account. Since this is the only thing running, I didn't see this as a big issue. The KB article states as long as you give Network Service rights in SQL server (which I did) this should work. Then I remember (I was not in on initial production deployment so this didn't cross my mind at first) that Production is SP1 and dev is SP2. I attempt to use the stadmin to force the upgrade, but wait, the database I want to upgrade is not attached to SharePoint so nothing happens. So, I start over and uninstall WSS SP2 and reinstall WSS SP1. When I try and install security fix for SP1 (to get to same version as production), it states that the fix is already installed. I look, and somehow WSS is still SP2, not SP1 even though that is what I downloaded and installed. During installation there were some files that were being copied for which newer versions already existed, but I told it to overwrite anyway. So, I'm still stuck with SP2 on dev and need to restore my SP1 database. Ok, now I decide to make sure that I can at least restore the backup I made of the dev WSS content db before all this started. When I try and restore this, I get the exact same error as above, even though this db was created on this machine, is same version, and has dbo as administrator. I did all this work while as local administrator to the server. I'm at a loss and banging my head against the wall since I can't even add the content db that was made on this machine. I have a feeling it has to do with the AppPool settings/ using Network Services for the restore of db from same machine. However, the restore from prod server could be something else. I've only been working with SharePoint for about 3-1/2 months so I'm still trying to understand all its little intricacies. If more information is needed (I thought I would stop here since it's long enough already), let me know and I'll provide. Thanks for all the help.     - Creating an ASP.NET V2 web application using WSS Hello everyone i'm new to the sharepoint world but have good experience in .Net application. I'm studying a development of a web application which will be host on a SBS server with sql server 2005 and I would like to take advantage of WSS for file sharing, web parts, site templates, etc. As i understood WSS is also possible on SQL2005. I allready have a database like let say AdventureWork which is the main store of my application. My first question is how does the merging or relation between those two databases possible ? Can i merge the two easily? how are user rights and goups related? Is it possible to create web part using ASP.NET V2 using my custom tables and integrate easily in a WSS site. What is support for multi-language, how is it handled. And finally can i use some AJAX async controls (like the telerik suite) web parts (using WSS tables and my custom tables) If someone experienced could help me a bit in understanding all the bits and pieces it will be very appreciated.     - Anyway to blow away Sharepoint on SBS and not have other issues? Sharepoint is trashed on my new SBS box and I'd like to just start over since I am still in deployment.     - Missing Banner Navigation Alright. I did it. I screwed up. I was thrown into managing our SharePoint server well before the decision was made to hire a Microsoft consultant to guide our efforts. So here I am being overwhelmed with requests for site additions and upgrades and I am left to fuddle my way through being a SharePoint administrator... One of the first and loudest requests was to rebrand with the corporate logo and colors. I realize now (after research) what my error was. But I do not know how to fix it. And the same people that were clamoring for upgrades are now screaming for a fix. And our hired gun is still 4 weeks from coming in to save my arse. My version of my mistake: I went into the \60\TEMPLATE\LAYOUTS\1033 folder and edit a few documents (in FP2003). The only change I made was to point to a different image file for the small sharepoint people logo in the upper left corner and the logo to the left of the page title. I made the changes in FP2003 and saved the files. My version of the recurring error: Ever since that change was made in about 5 of the aspx files in the above referenced location, about half of the sites in SharePoint completely lost the banner navigation. (The other half didn't but they have been heavily customized in FP2003 and I suspect they are not ghosted so they did not inherit the error.) Also, any new sites created from a ghosted site is also created lacking the banner navigation. Weird part: If I open the site in FP2003, the banner navigation appears as a part of the page. So I don't understand why it would not appear when the site is opened in a browser. My version of a desparate plea for help: So, now I know that I should never have edited those files, especially not in FP2003. But moving forward, I am unsure of the approach to take to restore the banner navigation not only to the sites that it no longer appears on, but also to the sites that get created. HELP!!!!     - Renamed WSS Now unable to connect We had to rename our sharepoint server and now nothing is working. I understand that Microsoft has a script or an exe that can be run to correct the connections but is not widely available due to regression testings, etc? Anyone no of a way to get the Sharepoint connections working again??     - Filtering a Date Range for Events I am trying to create a view for a calendar similar to the "Current View" but I want to limit it to only showing 30 days in advance. I created the following calculated field: [month]=[begin]-31. I then set the filter so that [month] is less than or equal to [today] AND [begin] is greater than or equal to [today]. It works accept for one thing. The filtering only applies to the event entry, but NOT to the recurring events. So I have an event set for 4/17 that repeats on 4/24, but only the 4/17 event shows in my view. How can I modify the view so that all events, including recurring events, show in the view?     - Word Merge Hi, I'm fairly new to Sharepoint and I'm not sure of the best way to do the following. Using a WebPart that I will create I need to be able to retrieve contact details from Exchange base upon input that the user will give, create a new Word document from a template, fill fields within that document with the data retrieved from Exchange and finally save the document in Sharepoint with some metadata based on the data retrieved. Hey, Can anyone help, I've been trying to sort out permissions, and access
levels for all of the users for our site. I now find that I receive an error
"The ID 'spnUniqueWeb' is already used by another control. " when accessing
the Manage site groups page.

Is anyone able to give me a heads up on what might be causing this error.
