Hi,
We have SBS2003 standard edition. Both the "Microsoft SharepPoint

companyweb running. Other sites such as OWA work OK. I am trying to access

How to change existing calendar's field properties?
Hi there,
In my sharepoint portal, we created calendar for entering activities.
1. By default "begin" & "end" are date/time field,
how can I change both to date field?
i.e. I don't want to see the time info at all.
2. By default "begin" is a mandatory field but "end" is not,
how can I change "end" to a mandatory field?

Document structures for forms and other libraries
Hi,
I have an awkward problem. We have broad catagories of documents eg Health
and safety policies, standard procedures etc and within these broad
categories are forms
The problem is that a form library is generated for each form so I have
loads of these seemingly unconnected libraries that do not relate at all to
the category that they belong to. How can I include these libraries so that
they appear within a list view for the related category? Is there a way that
I can move these forms into a folder (called forms say) and get a list view
of the forms within the forms folder? Or perhaps I can somehow move the
folder into the document library that the form relates to
Way beyond my league. Can anyone help with these two issues

Undelete
Just recently Microsoft went and introduced the fabulous Shadow Copy feature
to its Windows Server 2003 shared folders. A late feature (absent in NT 4.0
and 2000 networks), I must say. At last people can easily undelete their
files from the shares. Phew... Much less work and fear to administrators...
I still have that fear, that I get a call, and have to go to the serverroom
and spend there an hour winding that tape.
However... The business drives focus away from files on shares towards doc
management systems like Sharepoint Services. Now again Microsoft is late --
it's the 2nd iteration of Sharepoint services and Microsoft does not have a
tool for undeleting files from a database. Is there any planned? What do you
use for undeleting from Sharepoint? Expenses go to third party tools?

custom web service deployment
All examples on creating custom web services for WSS deploy the web service
to the folder pointed to by the _vti_bin virtual directory. through
experimention i found that i could create a virtual directory under _vti_bin
that pointed to a non "c:\program files\...." folder. everything is working
fine. i can get the web service documentation correctly, and my web service
functions as expected.
the only problem is that it will not generate the service description in
this deployment scenario. when i navigate to
http://myserver/_vti_bin/_myvirtualdir/myservice.asmx?wsdl i get redirected
to a "file not found" page. the url is
http://myserver/_layouts/1033/error.aspx?ErrorText=File%20Not%20Found%2E.
i thought it may have something to do with the myservicewsdl.aspx and
myservicedisco.aspx file. i also thought it may have to do something with
the entry in the spdisco.aspx file, which is mentioned in the sdk example on
creating a custom web service. i've tried modifing the code in these files,
but nothing seems to change the behavior.

I'm wondering if there is a way to get a WSS list to scroll horizontally. I
have a list with some large text fields, and would like to limit how many

Web Folders
I've noticed that some web folders to document libraries on my WSS sites are
"automatically" created in my Network Places. (I'm running Win XP SP1,
Office XP SP2, Infopath 2003 and IE 6.0) I assumed they were created when I
uploaded files into the document library and/or when I created a "New
Document" and saved it to the document library. However, I tested that
"theory" and have found it to be inconsisent, thus inconclusive. So, my
question is, how are web folders created? Any insight to clarify would be
most appreciated!

Need help with "User does not exist" error
Alan Cox asked this question on 12/7/03 and Andrew Couch asked it
again on 1/8/04 but I haven't found any useful responses so here's to
hoping the third time's a charm...
On the add user screen I add a user in the format domain\login, set
the access level (e.g. reader) and click OK. On the next page
(step3-confirm users and step4-send email) the full details of the
user are displayed, i.e. the email address and display name is
displayed
so it would seem that the LDAP query to Active Directory was
successful. However, clicking on Finish yields the error "the user
does not exist".
It seems that several people have run into this error in the past. If
you are one of them, PLEASE email me (and post here) the resolution.

Meta-lists accessible from different sites?
Is there any way of creating lists that could be accessed throughout
different sites at different levels? Similar way 'User Information' is
accessible as a 'Lookup' column
Here's the deal. We have product 'functional areas' and we want to be

reference to them.
Functional areas have associated contact persons for Product
Management, QA, Dev, etc. and architectural components.
We'd like these functional areas (and their meta-data) to be managed
in a centralized place.
I wound't mind having to maintain these 'meta-lists' elsewhere (Active

WSS Backup / Restore Options
This question may be too advanced for most, but I thought I would give it a
shot:
We have an existing site on a Windows 2003 Server running the latest WSS. It
is not running in Active Directory Account Creation Mode.
We would like to run our server in Active Directory Account Creation Mode.
Also, our disk array is quickly running out of room, so we must create a new

What is the easiest or suggested method of backing up our WSS enviornment so
that we may run AD Account creation mode and restore it on a new server?

Bypass Login, Revisited
WSS on Win2K3 Server. I just converted to WSS from a simple FrontPage Server
Extensions 2 setup and am having a difficult time with my public web site.
Users visiting the web site are prompted with the "Enter Network Password"
with Username, Password and Domain boxes. I think it is down to an anonymous
authentication issue. I have ensured that IIS has Anonymous authentication
enabled and the IUSR_computername account is set up for read access,
however, in the MS instructions for SP I also need to complete the steps
below. The only
problem is that I don't know the EXACT steps to complete steps 1 & 2 below.
Can someone help me find the way?
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
From Microsoft SS Support:
Enabling Anonymous Access
"If you want to allow anonymous access (such as for an Internet site), you
must enable anonymous access by assigning rights to the anonymous user
(DONE!). To enable anonymous access, you must first be sure that IIS is
configured to allow anonymous access (also DONE), and then on the Site
Administration pages for your Web site, you can enable anonymous access (THIS
is my problem!)
Enable anonymous access for a top-level Web site
1. On your site, click Site Settings. (What do they mean by "On your site" -
using what tool do I do this? I can't find the "Site Settings" to click on)
2. Under Administration, click Go to Site Administration. (Again, I think if
I knew what "tool" to use and HOW to access it in step 1, I could complete
this task!!)
3. On the Site Administration page, under Users and Permissions, click
Manage anonymous access.
4. In the Anonymous Access section, select a level of access to allow:
â?¢ Entire Web site
â?¢ Lists and libraries
â?¢ Nothing
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
I have been all over the Virtual Server administration and Central
SharePoint Administration and have not seen any place to perform the above
steps. I have never seen these 3 choices listed in step 4 anywhere! ANY help
would be appreciated so that I may get on with my life ;-}

Categorizing events - need system to group by
I am very pleased with what I can do with the standard WSS events list. I
have added some additional fields and I can then create views that group by
the data in these additional fields.
Now what I want to be able to do is indicate a number of categories for a
single event and find a way to group by them in a view. For example, an
event listing for a city commission meeting might have agenda items that
affect several neighborhoods. I'd like to be able to indicate which
neighborhoods it affects and then create a view that lists event by
neighborhoods with agenda items, which would be very useful to neighborhood
residents.
I can indicate a single neighborhood with a field and a drop down menu and
then group by this field, but it doesn't give me what I need.
If I add a field call neighborhood with checkboxes, allowing multiple items
to be checked, then this field with multiple possible values is not listed
in the column names that I can search by.
I'd like to know if there is a way to do what I'd like to do.

directory of this site. I have also added the ascx control to the web
part library, however when I import the webpart into the Web Part

in:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server

System.IO.FileNotFoundException: C:\<websitename>\Program Files\Common
Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server
Extensions\60\Template\1033\TISSL\doctemp\smartpgs\AppMonitor.ascx
How do I get sharepoint to load the ascx file from the right location?
I have tried adding virtual directories but this hasn't helped.
Perhaps, I am doing this wrong if this is where the problem lies.
Has anyone any ideas?

Beta Users and advanced features Sign-up here... http://www.eigensearch.com/inc/constructs/betasignup.htm
Central to eigenSearch Advanced is the freedom to construct complex search explorations, save the forms for later use; and apply weight factor to each phrase and term. EigenSearch processing will apply eigenvector math and Jacobian matrices to construct search terms that are tailored to your exploration. Cross-pollination is also applied as described below. The eigenvector approach is clearly highly advanced and would normally be useful for very sophisticated applications. Nevertheless, anyone may utilize the method. An advanced form is simply a matrix in which the user types words and phrases randomly in a multi-cell form (please click thumbnail to view).
Advanced features
EigenOperator (cross pollination) and eigenvector constructs
Cross document content pollination within every web site directory tree (unlike conventional search engines and tools eigenSearch checks for your terms and phrases and drills down though multiple directory documents)
EigenSearch cross-pollination is applied to documents within the same (tree) level in a URL (peer documents). Thereby limiting the amount of contamination of results
Illustration:
"Blood Hounds" + "English Breed" will present documents that contain either of these phrases within the same peer level in a document storage structure; for example, within the directory: www.smartdogs/hounds.
eigenSearch limits pollinating occurrences outside a peer level. For example; "blood hounds" + "English breed" found in two different directories would not report an eigenSearch result: i.e. "Blood hounds" found in www.smartdogs/hounds and "English Breed" found in. www.smartdogs/hounds/Europe would not be found. EigenSearch therefore searches one tree (peer) level in a site and looks for multiple occurrences of multiple phrases across all documents within this peer level.
Corporate products can be tailored to drill down infinite levels for eigenOperator (cross-pollinating operator) matching.
eigenSearch single phrase results will find all documents and show the results as independent findings. This way the user can find results across many documents and the combined highly constrained results are reserved for a single level cross pollination.
Extremely high (cross-pollinating) eigenValues will correspond to finely granular and refined search explorations.
Beta users receive the following features:
Login and password
Save search constructs for later use in your own personal construct tables
EigenOperator (cross Pollinating Operator) advanced features as described above (eigenvector to follow)
Database (Table) upload and eigenvector computations
EigenSearch seeks 300,000 beta testers for its advanced eigenOperator based cognitive engine. This engine will allow for a multiplicity of search parameters for users to select so as to mathematically narrow results. The system will employ eigenVectors, eigenValues and eigenMatrices to determine relevance to user searches; thereby rendering high fidelity confirmed search results.
Naturally the computational power for doing such math is why beta testers are required. Each tester is welcome to comment on user friendliness, speed, change and ergonomic elegance. It is an eigenSearch goal to continue advancing the user interface so as to remain intuitively simple to use while at the same time providing hi-fidelity explorations.
All beta testers will receive a login and password, which provides entry into features for saving search constructs and parameters according to their own classification approach. Saved results and parameters can be used at any time and modified to alter search results. Beta users will be able to import their own data sets (2-dimentional) and perform an eigenValue analysis.

http://weblogs.asp.net/dburke/archive/2004/06/09/151660.aspx
When use the code below using the string URL to the site, I actually get the
error "could not find global configuration data..." I switched this code to
use the site's guid from the database and I get the "cannot complete this
action..." error.
SPSite siteCollection = new SPSite("http://Server_Name");
SPWebCollection sites = siteCollection.AllWebs;
foreach (SPWeb site in sites)
{
SPListCollection lists = site.Lists;
Console.WriteLine("Site: " + site.Name + " Lists: " +
lists.Count.ToString());
}
Console.WriteLine("Press ENTER to continue");
Console.ReadLine(); Tag: smigrate error Tag: 20611
Subsites in Companyweb
My remote users are unable to access the remote sites in http://companyweb
I am using SBS 2003 Standard.
Any help would be appreciated. Tag: smigrate error Tag: 20609
beginners question re: documents offline
Have SBS2003 and using sharepoint on there all of which works great. Have
gotten users set up so that documents all held safely but they can
synchronise or go offline which also works great. Question is, if I get
users moving towards using documents workspaces and storing their documents
on the sharepoint site - can they stil take them off-line when going out of
the office & if so how do they do this.
Thanks

Merging WSS Data Sources
I need a list that displays its own data plus data from a Project
Server, and it should look like a single WSS list. It would look
something like this:
Project Name | Phase | Owner | Comments
------------------------------------------
Proj 1 | Test | Fred | Some text
Proj 2 | Code | Ted | Text
...
The "Project Name" and "Phase" data will come from Project Server,
while the "Owner" and "Comments" data will come from a WSS list.
Has anyone done anything like this? Any suggestions?
My thought is to create a web service that will query Project Server
and WSS, and return the merged data as XML. Then I'd have a Data View
consume the web service. Before I start down this path, I want to make
sure WSS and FrontPage don't already provide some way to merge data
sources.

Justifying the more complex use of WSS to store shared documents
I originally posted this in .sharepoint.teamservices group, it really
belongs here:
I find myself in the position of justifying the use of WSS and storing
documents through our WSS intranet rather than simply as files on
shared directories.
Now, I love WSS and the whole integration with .net and SQL server
thing, but I am hard pressed to explain how this is the better
solution, especially when a simple intranet can be developed with
notepad and files in shared folders w/NTFS permissions for *much* less
cost.
I'm not trolling here, I really need to generate some info for a
report to justify the expense and time to upgrade our intranet.
Other than being "really cool" for us technoids, what are the solid,
substantial benefits?
I am likely to post counter-arguments matching those I will have to
entertain as I justify the project.
I invite responses to my email below, also.

Data View listing sub sites using webs.asmx?
Hi everyone: --- I'm reposting this because someone named Ian gave me a weak
answer and I'm convinced someone else might be able to make a suggestion...
We've got a WSS server configured with the top level web site having a URL
like this:
http://sharepointserver
When our users create team sites, they go below
http://sharepointserver/SITES/
We wanted to use the top level web site to display a Data View web part that
is querying the webs.asmx web service, but FrontPage can't seem to connect
to the web service at http://sharepointserver/SITES/ ... So, obviously,
when I connect to http://sharepointserver/_vti_bin/webs.asmx , I only see
the top level site in my DataView.
Can someone clue me in on what I might be doing wrong?--- I would really
like to build a web part that lists all the team sites below
http://sharepointserver/SITES ?
Thanks,
