Can I run a standalone Win 2003 server with AD, SQL and
WSS all loaded on the same box - and use AD as the account
creation mode? I hear rumors this can be done. If so - can
anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks.

A search on "domain controller" at http://wss.collutions.com finds several
relevant articles. Have you taken a look at these?

This article, in particular, seems to address your question...

AD, SQL and WSS on same box by Ian

Well the documentation says it is not supported.
I have done it and almost everything seems to be working.
The only proble I have is allowing anonymous create
access to a list where the site only allows anonymous
read (I want anonymous users to fill out a survey) I'm
trying to reproduce this before I call it a bug.

I just followed the instructions in the admin guide.
You must use stsadm.exe to create the content db and top
level sites (WEB UI will fail) as per the instructions.
I have also found that the app pools have to have domain
admin rights to get everything installed, docs say that
Power User group is all that is required but this failed
for me.
After install I drop app pool acount rights and
everything keeps going.

Regards,
Ian
