Hi all:

I built a dashboard using the Office Pivot Chart web parts, but when I try
to access the dashboard page from a client I get an error. First I get the
message about "This website uses data from a provider that may be unsafe, if
you trust the site click here" which I can get rid of by putting the
Sharepoint site in the trusted sites zone, but when I do that I don't get
the data and the error message is the oh so helpful "Failed to get data".
The page works fine on the server, and the client is joined to the domain
and can access MSCRM with no issues (i.e the data source is alive and
reachable). The MSCRM server, http://danubecrm, is in the local intranet
zone, and the security is set to "Automatic logon only in intranet zone"

Has anyone seen this before and know how to fix it?

Thanks for any and all help.

John.

John,

Do you only get this error when running the SharePoint page through the CRM
Outlook client?

John,

Try changing the following settings in your IE browser:
Go to Tools --> Internet Options --> Security Tab --> Custom Level
Look for the Miscellaneous section and change the setting for "Access data
sources across domains" to enable.

Then try accessing your pivot chart again.

John,

For what this is worth. I got this same error when creating a SharePoint
dashboard for CRM. It would work as a standalone page accessed via IE but
would randomly give me the same error you got when viewed through the
Outlook CRM client, but not the CRM web client.

I finally figured out how to prevent it. It would happen when my VPC
network was set to Local Only but when I actually had it see a network card
(either my wired or wireless card) it worked. Something funky about
SharePoint needing to see a network card I guess.

Maybe this might help you troubleshoot a bit.
