Sure, but you need to do it with SharePoint Designer... Here are the steps:
1) Open the parent site in SPD
2) On the 'Site' menu, select 'Navigation' (this should open a treeview
showing your top link bar and quick launch for the site)
3) Locate the quick launch, and the heading you want to create the link
under (Sites maybe?)
4) Right-click on the heading entry, select New->Page (this will create
a new child node under the heading you selected)
5) Double click on the new node to open the page (you need to do this in
order to edit the node, you won't actually modify the new page, you can
delete it after you are done)
6) Click on the 'Web Site' tab to go back to the navigation view
7) Right-click on the new node, click 'Properties'
8) In the dialog box, find the site you want to create the link to,
select it and click OK
9) The link is created and is now security aware. You can change the
name of the link in SPD (right-click the node and select 'Rename' or in IE)
