AD name change in 2.0

I have run into an issue with WSS 2.0 regarding security. An AD group was
applied to the site, and then the named was changed in AD. However WSS
doesnâ??t show that new name under manage users in â??domain groupsâ?? column, but
it is reflected in the â??user nameâ?? column.

Removing the groups and adding them back does not fix it either. Anyone
know why?

From your descritption, you found that after you changin an AD group's name
in the AD database, it doesn't be synchronized correctly into your WSS 2.0
service, correct?

Regarding on this issue, I have performed some research and find some
existing reference on this. Here is a knowledge base article mentioned a
WSS & AD's account synchronize issue, you can have a look to see whether
this matches your case:

also, there is another article discuss on ways to synchronize sharepont
user info with AD:
