(Rather than posting to both these newsgroups in order to cover both WSS
2.0 and MOSS, post to a single newsgroup that deals with both products
such as .setup_and_administration.)
Unfortunately you've received bad advice as the first replier has
presumably not seen that you want to moving your document libraries from
WSS **2.0** and has given you an answer for WSS *3.0*.
You can not use WSS 2.0 templates in a v3 (WSS 3.0 or MOSS 2007)
SharePoint site.
What you can do is upgrade your WSS 2.0 system to WSS 3.0 following one
of the standard upgrade methods - one of which allows you to create a
new (in your case, temporary) copy of WSS 3.0 in a second server - and
then use Save Library as Template. As this template is then a v3
template, it can be uploaded to the template gallery in MOSS 2007 and
then is available in the list when you create a Document Library there.
If you don't want to do that, it is possible to transfer the contents of
a document library manually.
Create in your WSS 2.0 doc lib a view containing all columns that can be
transfered in this way (not the date / person fields such as
Modified/Modified By and not the complex fields like lookup). Have the
file name in the first column and sort on that column.
Now create an identical document library in MOSS 2007 with an identical
view.
Then:
1. With both sites set to Explorer View, copy across the files from the
WSS 2.0 doc lib to the MOSS 2007 doc lib.
2. With that done; open both files in the Datasheet View version of the
View you have created. The MOSS 2007 view will only have values in the
first column. Copy the other cells of the WSS 2.0 version to the MOSS
2007 version.
Done.
Note that in addition to the complex columns/fields like Lookup; and
Calculated; it is impossible to bulk transfer the values of a multi-line
text field. If you have those you will need to move their contents one
cell at a time.
