"Launch blog program to post" opens two documents
Using WSS 3.0: On a blog page if the user selects "Launch blog
program to post" Microsoft Word 2007 launches == great. However there
are two document windows open == not so great. Any way around that?

Displayinjg an entire field from infopath form
Hello,
We have a very simple infopath form used for data entry, which works
fine. One of the fields (report) is limited to 2400 characters. We'd
like to be able to create a view that shows the enteir contents of the
report field rather than the first n characters. Even if we give more
room to each row, the size of the field does not change.
Any ideas?
Thanks,

missing authentication provider
I am missing an Authentication Provider for my WSS3 Web application, and
getting a 403 error when I try to connect.
The website was built on another machine, upgraded to WSS3 from WSS2. I
used the Backup utility in Central Administration to back up the Sharepoint
site. When restoring, I am told that the operation was successful, but I
cannot access the website. That is when I found the Authentication Provider
error. This does not exist for other websites (provider is Windows
(Default)). I checked in IIS, on the ASPNET tab, an the provider is set to
Windows as well. Any ideas?
Thanks,

SharePoint Services 3.0 unable to display content
We were running SharePoint Services 2.0 on Windows Server 2000 and SQL Server
2000. Windows Server was upgraded to 2003 and SQL Server was upgraded to
2003.
At this point, SharePoint Services stopped working. I found that SharePoint
Services 2.0 does not run on Windows 2003 because of a file conflict. Also
that SharePoint Services requires SQL Server 2000.
Therefore, SQL Server was downgraded to 2000.
As for SharePoint Services, this was upgraded to 3.0 after applying the .NET
3.0 upgrade. The upgrade identified that there was a previous installation
and upgraded the databases accordingly.
The configuration and content tables can be viewed using the login/password
identified in the SharePoint Central Administration WEB Site.
When connecting to the SharePoint Services site the error message provided
indicates that I do not have permissions to view the page. I can not alter
the permissions in the Central Administration.
I also can not create a new Virtual Server to display the content from.
How do I get the content back? Tag: move a list item to another list folder Tag: 56438
Event 1000 Windows Sharepoint Error
I recently started getting the error below in my event Application log.
=====================================================
Event Type: Error
Event Source: Windows SharePoint Services 2.0
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1000
Date: 2/9/2007
Time: 9:10:33 PM
User: N/A
Computer: SERVER
Description:
#50070: Unable to connect to the database STS_SERVER_425103895 on
SERVER\SharePoint.
Check the database connection information and make sure that the database
server is running.
For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
=====================================================
The DB number that is showing the error (STS_SERVER_425103895) does not
exist in the SharePoint SQL instance and none of my SharePoint webs have
that DB number configured as their content DB. All of the SharePoint webs
are working normally. The error occurs every hour to the minuet. Is it
possible
that something is left over from a former web that had STS_SERVER_425103895
as a content DB?
This is on Small Business Server 2003 SP1 that has all of the current
updates except
for IE7.
Thanks for any suggestions

"File Not Found" trying to view list settings after STSADM Restore in WSS 3.0
The environment is a WSS 3.0 Single Server Farm on Server 2K3 SP1 Std.
Edition. The DB is the Runtime Engine bundled with WSS.
The goal of my backup and restore was to create a new top level site
collection on my server and to recreate the existing top level site
collection underneath.
To achieve this I did the following:
Backup the existing Site collection with STSADM.exe :
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions
\12\BIN>stsadm -o backup -url http://myserver -filename main.bak -
overwrite
In Sharepoint Central Administration Delete the site collection '/'
Create new site collection '/'
Create new site collection '/sites/srveng'
Restore the site to the new location with STSADM.exe:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions
\12\BIN>stsadm -o restore -url http://myserver/sites/srveng -filename
main.bak -overwrite
At first glance, everything worked just fine. However, after some
poking around, I discovered that I could not get to the "Settings"
page for any list or Document Library on the restored site.
If I open the List, for example: http://myserver/sites/srveng/Lists/
Announcements/AllItems.aspx
Then go to the Settings Menu and click "List Settings",
I see the following:
Go back to site
Error
File Not Found.
Troubleshoot issues with Windows SharePoint Services.
I also see the same error if I click "View all site content" on the
Quick Launch bar.
These functions worked before the site move. The commanilty between
the pages not working seems to be that they are in the path: http://
myserver/srveng/_layouts/
On the new "/" site collection, these functions are working as they
should.
Any assistance you can provide would be appreciated. Tag: move a list item to another list folder Tag: 56426
WSS 3.0: Current date in calculated fields
It doesn't look like it, but is there a way to reference "today's
date" in a calculated column? I want to determine the number of days
between today's date, and the date in another column, and all signs
point to that not being possible.
If not, are there any possible workarounds? Tag: move a list item to another list folder Tag: 56425

Consolidate Blogs
Playing around with STS ver 3, and like the new blog feature. Is there a
way to display consolidated the multiple blogs that may be on my site into
on view. I was thinking displaying the last 10 blog entries from any one of
the 10 blogs that will be listed.
At first I thought there would be a web part but could not find a obvious
one. Then I tried to add the Blog's RSS feed to the default page.
Any suggestions? I like the RSS way, because in theory I could add external
RSS feeds also. (Baby steps, got to remember baby steps)
Thanks in Advanced!

Dataview webpart DVWP to find Username of current user
I would like to use the frontpage dataview web part on a WSS page to pick up
the username (not the domain\username) bit of the current user and query the
Sql profile database to pull up extra infomation (name, Date of birth etc)
and show that in the Dataview webpart. I have created the database connection
and the queryand I have created the filter 'Username equals [Current user]'
.Username is a field name that contain username (without the domain name
attached) in the database. The dataview webpart returns no records found even
though the users have information in the database. Change the filter to a
known username, the DVWP returns the user's record ok It does not seem to
pick up and compare the logged on user's username and that in the database
well. Any help. Tag: move a list item to another list folder Tag: 56415

I'm not able to do any testing yet on the incoming e-mail settings but I was

Site Search Pro Gold 2.0
We have come across a typical problem with Site Search Pro Gold 2.0 -
Any text/word/searchkey having apostrophe mark are not getting indexed
by the system as the search result is not displaying any of them. For
example:
If we have a paragraph in a page A as
"I have a big brother named Apurba. Apurba's attitude towards work is
very nice. Apurba is also fond of Music."
and another page B having a paragraph as
"Apurba's achievements are numerous and scores are high."
Now when we search for Apurba, only page A is appearing in the search
result with the following highlighted.
"I have a big brother named Apurba. Apurba's attitude towards work is
very nice. Apurba is also fond of Music."
but the word Apurba's is NOT at all considered and also PAGE B is not
listed in the search result.
Further, if we search for Apurba's, no search result is displayed.
Please note in both the cases, we have NOT done exact word search. We
feel there is a problem with the engine doing the indexing of the
pages.
If anybody has solution using Site Search Pro Gold 2.0 itself, please
let us know. It is quite URGENT. Tag: move a list item to another list folder Tag: 56405

Folder Name Length for Explorer View
Hi,
This is my update from my previous post for upload file not being shown in
explorer view and I have a couple of questions for the below:
I have found that I need to close the IE browser, open a new
browser and access the document library list with Explorer View,
it will then show my new uploaded file.
1.So is there any way not to reopen the browser in order to see
get both views updated? Is there any cache for the Explorer View?
And may I know is there any folder name length limit in the SharePoint
Document Library? Because I noticed that when I have a folder name
with a length of around 50 characters, it gives me a page cannot be
display when I change the view to Explorer View...However, I can
navigate to this folder from its' top folder in Explorer View...So from
my inverstigation, I found out that if the folder name length is
more than 40, I cannot change the view to Explorer View from the
All Documents view of the current folder(the one with long name)..
But when I navigate to the folder with the name length of 50, from
the top folder in Explorer View, it does not gives me the page
cannot be displayed error page..It just works fine through this channel.
2. So is there any restriction on the folder naming length for changing
to Explorer View from All Documents View?

Upload File not shown Explorer View
Hi,
I am using WSS v3 and when I was trying to upload a .dwg file to my document
library list from the normal single file upload form ie. All Documents View,
I noticed that when i changed the view to Explorer View, the uploaded .dwg
file is not being shown..but it does shown in the All Documents View.
I actually did some testings..Here is it:
1. Create a new document library
2. Upload a .dwg file from normal single file upload form
3. Change the view to Explorer View, the uploaded .dwg file being shown.
4. Upload any file again to the document library using single file
upload form, change the view to Explorer View, it only shown the first .dwg
file uploaded in steps 2. All subsequent uploaded files doesn't shown in
Explorer View.
Is this a bug in the Explorer View when uploading a .dwg file to the
document list?

Site Actions Problem
I recently used smigrate to move some content as a template over to a
new server etc etc. Running WSS 3.0. I have created a site eg /site
and if I go to Site Actions--->Create I get the usual list of
Libraries, Communications, Tracking, Custom Lists and Web Pages.
However, if i goto /site/migratedweb, and then to Site Actions---
>Create,
I only get Tracking and Custom Lists where tracking only
contains Agenda. (This web is a team meeting one). All the others such
as the ability to create a document library or discussion board are
missing.
If I create a new web (team meeting one) under /site/newweb and then
go to Site Actions--->Create, I get all of this. Therefore it seems
the migration process missed the templates or ignored the default
ones.
Any ideas appreciated!

SharePoint Designer/Frontpage/WSS question
I was never a big user of Frontpage but Designer plays a huge role in
MOSS/WSS 3. So, I have the following question:
If you use SPD to create a folder arbitrarily in the structure of a WSS site
and then start stuffing files, e.g. images, aspx pages, etc., how are they
treated by WSS? Are the files content? Is everything handled by the safe
mode parser? Since the files have to be in the contentdb, I expect they're
backed up with the site. Are they accessible through the object model? Tag: move a list item to another list folder Tag: 56382

Windows authentication after session expiry

For this, i want that at the time of initial login it sohuld not ask

Now, i have set up a timeout of 1minute for my site.
If 1minue of inactivity is there then i want to show the Login Screen
again (Windows Authentication) and then redirect to the same page
where user was originally working
e.g. if user is at Mypage.aspx and login session expires, then on
session_start, it should ask for Login Credentials and then go to
Mypage.aspx again.
I have been able tosetup the timeout period and on Session_Start, i am
trying to redirect it to Authenticate.aspx. Now the problem is that, i
have not been able to distinguish between the initial login and login
after session expiry.
Also when i use authenticate.aspx, it tries to authenticate user for
3times i.e. asks the credentials for 3times.
Please help me in solving this problem.
Here is the code that i am using for this:
void Session_Start(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
Response.Write(HttpContext.Current.Request.Url.Host
+ HttpContext.Current.Request.ApplicationPath +
"Session is Starting...<br>");
// Redirect here to Authenticate.aspx which is used by default by
IIS.
Session.Timeout = 1;
}
void Session_End(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
Response.Write("Session is Ending...<br>");
Response.End();

Receive "Cannot connect to the configuration database" when attempting to install a new web part
I've create a new web part. I'm trying to install this web part on a
Sharepoint Portal Server 2003 instance. In my development
environment, Sharepoint is set up on a single server with SQL Server
2000 on the same box. I can install the web part just fine there.
On the production instance, Sharepoint is set up different. SQL
Server 2000 is on a separate box. Using the same steps (as I do on
the development instance), I get a "cannot connect to the
configuration database" error message. As far as I know, everything
else on the production Sharepoint instance is working just fine.
I've seen the troubleshooting steps at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/
823287/en-us.
On the web server, the app pool identity is set to "NETWORK SERVICE".
On the SQL Server 2000 instance, the "NETWORK SERVICE" account is not
a member of any of the roles listed in the knowledge base article. If
I add the SQL Server 2000 instance's 'NETWORK SERVICE" account to the
proper roles, would that fix my problem?
Do I need to create another account that is the same for both servers?
I'm not sure why I get this error on the production server. Any help

If I try to run stsadm.exe -o deletesite or -o backup with the CorprorateIT2

I have several members on my team with an issue when trying to access
our sharepoint site. IE will show one bar on the progress bar, but
lock up and I have to end program to get out. It doesn't even get to
the login popup. They can get to other internal and external
websites. They can login in to the sharepoint site from other PCs.
Here's what I've tried:
1. Delete all temp files
2. I can ping the server from a command prompt
3. I can get the the sharepoint site through firefox (although we
have no functionality)
4. I removed all the webparts on the opening page - still nothing
5. I added the website to their trusted sites.
6. I've matched all the security settings to my PC.
Nothing changed on their machines to cause this. I even get it on my
machine from time to time, but once I end program and restart IE, I
can get in.
Any suggestions?

Create reports using SQL reporting services
Hi all
I want to create reports in SQL 2000 Reporting services on a WSS site &
subsites (ie report on all tasks across all subsites).
Is it possible to expose sharepoint as a datasource in order to query it in
Reporting Services??
THanks in advance

How to enable auditing on WSS v3
Hello.
Can anyone point me in the direction for instructions on how you
enable and view auditing in WSS v3?
I am aware you it's not a GUI option in WSS v3
The admin section of the MS technet library is still down as "TBD", so
no help there.
I've tried Mike Walsh's excellent WSS FAQ, however it states that it
must be performed by the object model. "Note: In WSS v3 Audit Logging
needs to be turned on (and accessed) via the Object Model (OM)"
The following link, seems to relate to MOSS 2007 and not WSS v3
http://markharrison.co.uk/blog/archive%5C2006_07_01_archive.htm
Any pointers will be great (I'm guessing you need to use SP designer
2007?)
Thanks in advance. Tag: move a list item to another list folder Tag: 56331
Toolpart postback problem
Hi,
I'm currently having a problem getting my toolpart to retain its
viewstate on postback.
I have several list that need to be populated depending on what was
selected above them. At the moment i'm trying to get the lists to load
on the click event of a button.
My problem is when this click event is called, the page does a
postback and all the current values of the lists are lost and the
toolpart is reloaded with its original values.
I'm sure i'm missing some awfully simple but I can't think what.
thanks
Adam

Smigrate and Original Site
I have a WSS 2.0 sp2 (6.0.28117) server. It's a single server with the
config and content DBs on another server running SQL 2000 sp4.
We're looking at upgrading to WSS 3.0 and to do so wanted to setup a test
environment. Smart aye? :)
So I created a backup using the smigrate tool. Setup a new server,
installed WSS 2.0 and patched it to the same version. Re-created all the
sites without templates. Setup all the databases like on the original server
but pointing at a different SQL server (2005 in this instance).
I copied the smigrate backup files over to the new server and ran the tool
to restore to the new web. as in http://site2 instead of http://site1
It all seemed to work just fine except that after running the tool, my
ORIGINAL sharepoint site gives a 404 Bad Request error.
For the life of me, I see no reason why the 2 would be connected but that is
the only change done to that server recently.
Help would be appreciated.

Alternate url synchronizer job error
I'm recieving this error every 60 seconds in the Windows Application log the
specifics of which are below. This is on a server hosting a MOSS
installation of an upgraded v2 SPS portal. These WSS errors are new and I'm
getting MOSS errors of the same type as well. I've had this MOSS portal up
since before the RTM release and I believe they're related to the re-direct
mechanism deployed when upgrading from SPS to MOSS associated with Areas
being converted to sub sites within the site collection. I'm unaware of any
changes that I've made that could possibly be related but clearly something
has changed.
Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Larry

Migrate wss 2.0 and sql 2000 to new hardware
All,
Maybe someone can help me out with this. I've been reading and
reading for days and I see a lot of different posts and doc's but none
that seem to address my particular situation. I have a server 2003
box with wss v 2.0 and sql 2000 on it and it seems to be dying. I
would like to move my exsisting installations to a new server. The
server will be a completely different machine, with different hard
drive set-up and with a different box name and domain. Does anyone
have any suggestions as to what steps I should take to make this
change? What about my AD users, will they have to be migrated as well
or will stsadmin do all of that? What about my sql 2000 databases and
form libraries? I'm scared!!! Tag: move a list item to another list folder Tag: 56321
drop-down for top navigation bar
I noticed in MOSS 2007 they've added the functionality of showing a drop
downlist of subsites.
for instance I have a IT site and underneath it is a wiki and a blog that I
can just click on from MOSS 2007 from the top navigation drop-down list.
Is it possible to do this in Sharepoint services 3.0?
TIA,

Hi all,
can I move a list item to another folder inside the list, using the
