    - Move WSS 3.0 databases to another SQL server How do you move WSS 3.0 database to another SQL server? I know how to detach databases and move them, but where do I update the server name? Also, is it possible to change the name of the databases after the move? Anyone have detailed instructions on how to do this?     - ProjectServer2007 - Active Directory Synchronization Issue Hi folks, First of all, I apologize for spamming this post on several newsgroup. I didn't know which one is the most appropriate one to get the answer to my question since there isn't one specifically for ProjectServer2007. Background: I'm instructed to install and administer ProjectServer2007 so that the company can use it to share and manage Project Pro 2007 files and resources. Everything went smoothly; everything except one that is. We encountered no issue when manually adding user to the Project Web Access workspace. However the scheduled synchronization always generates an error. What's worse, this error actually checks-out resources and the checked-out resources would be 'stuck' in checked-out status. Getting the checked-out status resolved is not a problem as the database record/values can be easily updated back to check-in status (i.e. NULL). /* update target set target.res_checkoutby = null from msp_resources target where target.res_checkoutby is not null -- and target.res_checkoutby = cast(0 as uniqueidentifier) */ And it all would be fine, except we are trying to schedule a daily AD resync. I suppose I will be fine if I have to keep manually synchronizing it everyday or as needed. But since the scheduler /is/ there and is supposed to work but doesn't... well what gives? Question #1: Am I doing anything wrong during the installations? (I followed the instructions to the letter, then some trial and errors to make it right, but I think all is well). Question #2: Has anyone experienced the same thing? Question #3: If yes to Q2, how did you resolve it? Hints appreciated. Workable answer better.     - Restore problem with stsadm and WSS 3.0 I did a backup of our WSS 3.0 site. While I was trying to restore it, I kept getting an error on the content database. The error is below.     - In-place upgrade of WSS2 to WSS3 and non-WSS web sites I would like to try an in-place upgrade of WSS2 with MSDE to WSS3 on my current web server. I have non-WSS web site that currently coexist with WSS2. My current WSS2 sites are modest. My dedicated Web Server consists of W2k3 SP1 Standard Edition. It does not yet support ASP.NET 2.0, but I would like it to. Can I be reasonably confident of a successful in-place upgrade? I have read alot of bad press here and elsewhere.     - Document Libraries / Storage Limitation / Offline Availability Good morning -- I would like to replace using standard file systems on a small business server implementation with WSS document libraries, though I have a couple concerns. What kind of storage limitations are there? I am running a Small Business Server R2: Standard edition, and I am wondering if I will hit any storage limits with that. I know exchange has a 16GB limit per container and I wonder if something similar applies. That being said, if there is a limit, in what ways can I get around it? Secondly, I really like the offline file availability with the stand file system. I also like the ability to do a "mapped network drive" to the store.     - WSS 3.0 Workflow and InfoPath 2003 Hi, I'm working on automating a Purchase Order business process using InfoPath 2003 and Windows Sharepoint Services 3.0. I want to set up a Purchase Order workflow on the form library and need it to be routed to the Line Manager of the person who created the InfoPath form. I've written a Web Service that queries Active Directory and retrieves the logged in user's Manager when the InfoPath form is loaded which I then set on the InfoPath form. However, I need a "User" type field on the Sharepoint library to route the workflow to but when the InfoPath form gets saved it stores the Manager field as a text string. Is there any possible way that I can automatically route the workflow to the User's manager without requiring the user to select who the Manager is via a Sharepoint Designer workflow form?     - Changes to Usersprofile in ADS - delayed effect in wss 2.0 Hello when I change membership of a user to different groups, it takes several minutes before our wss 2.0 server accepts the changes (even if the user is logging in again). Is there some replication between the WSS 2.0 and the ADS or should these changes take effect right away? SQL Server housing the database for our SharePoint site Test Server What I would like to do is test doing an upgrade with our current production data. Also, since our SharePoint server currently resides on a server that houses numerous apps I would like to move it off of this machine and place it on a machine dedicated to running SharePoint only. I have tried creating a backup of the content dbase and putting it in a new instance (Called TEST) on our SQL server and pointing our test server to this instance. My question is, how do I easily move our current version 2 data to this new server so I can do some testing on the upgrade process to v3?     - Problem with SharePoint 2007 Backup and Document Library I am having a major problem with WSS v3. Every few days random office documents uploaded to document libraries will not open. The browser reports the document could not be opened and that the path or filename is invalid. At the same time the SharePoint backup stops working. If a backup is run from Central Admin, the process hangs when it gets to the first content database. Both issues can be resolved by rebooting the server. These problems are related and I'm assuming the content database is the cause. There are no errors in the SQL server or event logs. I have run SQL profile traces on some counters to get some indication of what is going but haven't turned up anything. The only thing unusual about the farm is that it was migrated from Beta 2 TR and moved to a new server with MOSS RTM. Has anyone experienced anything like this? Any help is appreciated.     - Change Redirect URL during Gradual Upgrade I know I can uninstall v3 and start over with the upgrade, but I would, of course, prefer not to. Is there any way to change the URL that v3 redirect un-upgraded sites to? I screwed up the host header during set up and there seems to be no way to go back.     - Override item-level permissions for a list I have a SharePoint list with several custom site groups needing different permissions. One group is able to read, write, and delete their own entries (via item-level permissions), and the other group should be able to read, write, and delete any entry on the list. I realize the second group can do this if I give them the manage lists right, but I don't want them to be able to change column names, field calculations, etc..     - WSSv3 Migration Hello, I have Sharepoint V2 running on one server and we have been looking at moving to V3. However, we want to place v3 on a box of it's own. The way it is setup is i have Sharepoint v2 on a server currently being used for many other things. I also have another server where i have installed v3. We have a third server running SQL 2000 where the databases for both versions are being housed. Little to no customizations have been done on V2 and V3 has very little content in it currently. Since i have v3 already installed i believe it is possible to move the database only from v2 over to v3 without much hassel is that correct? I have seen some articles but all have been a little confusing to me. A Sharepoint deployment/migration article and word doc i have been reading has been saying to use an addcontentdb operation part of the stsadm tool but i don't see that operation as an option when i runn stsadm.exe -help and it constantly errors out saying the operation is invalid. Are there any step by step articles on how to do migrate the dbase? In my setup, what is the best method for moving to v3 in your opinion? Thanks in advance.     - WSUS 2 SP1 and WSS 3.0 problems running both on same server Hi, Can anyone point me to any information regarding the subject. I've attempted to install WSUS 2 sp1 on a server that is already running Sharepoint services 3.0. When I installed it to a custom website I kept getting an error in the management console about the SelfUpdate service couldn't be detected. So I found an kBase article (don't remember the number) and ran through it's workarounds. Still get the same message on the admin console. So I thought maybe uninstalling it, and renistalling it to the default web site would help it along. Nope! Because of the WSS 3.0 installation the Default web site won't start (both sites use the same port (port 80)). Okay so I try move the two services (ClientWebService and SelfUpdate) service to the WSS 3.0 site, since they must run on port 80, instead of the customized port of 8530. Still doesn't work. The old configure is like this: ServerOld SiteOld (WSSv2) ListOld Alerts is working fine. If i add(or edited) a item to ListNew i get an alert saying a new item was added. If i add(or edited) a item to ListOld i don=B4t get an alert. To summarize: After upgrading to WSSv3 the old list don=B4t generate any alerts, but all the new lists do. Do i make any sense? Is any information missing? Server software: Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard x64 plus critical hotfixes from Microsoft Update, SQL Server 2005 Standard SP1, WSS3.0 x64 (from download site). All accounts used are domain accounts. I'm not aware of any oddities in the domain setup - it's worked fine for several years and hasn't given us any errors. However, this is the first R2 server in the domain. A successful resolution would allow the code above to open and use the SPSite, or would give alternative code that allowed us to open and use the SPSite. Download the solution EXE file to my computer. 2. Run the EXE file to unpack the template file to a location on your computer. 3.     - Cannot run Reporting Services 2000 and WSS3 onsame server I have a single Win2k3 server that was running SQL2000, SQL Reporting Services 2000, and Windows SharePoint Services 2. Now when I navigate to http://myserver/Reports the reports I can see the reports listed properly. But, when I try to execute a report I get the following Reporting Services Error... Failed to load expression host assembly. Details: StrongName cannot have an empty string for the assembly name. (rsProcessingError) >From looking at other postings it appears that this error is due to me setting the Reports and ReportServer applications to ASP.Net v2. So, I am stuck. If I set the applications to v2 I can see the site but cannot run the reports. If I set te applications to v1.1 then I cannot see the site at all.     - New Folder command in Project List Toolbar I have a project list that I have already created a sub folder on, but the option to create new sub folders is no longer an option on the "new" menu - any ideas? I have check and toggled the "Display "New Folder" command on the New menu" option under the lists advanced settings, but the option never appears. Good afternoon all, While attempting to enable Usage Analysis Processing from SharePoint Central Administration, I receive the error noted above after enabling logging and enabling usage analysis processing. There doesn't appear to be a method of selecting a virtual server to apply this to, although there is only one virtual server in this SharePoint installation. After returning to the administration page for setting up this option, however, the previously checked settings are still enabled. Does the virtual server error described tell me that usage analysis is still not enabled although the options are still checked? Did I miss a step in the setup? We have a custom site definition that we use for our WSS sites that includes
certain document libraries that automatically get created with specific
documents already in them. I'd like to remove some of these document
libraries from the site definition and in some cases I'd like to just remove
the default documents that are getting created. I've tried looking in the
onet.xml file under the custom site definition but it is not apparent to me
how this was set up. Has anyone else experienced this?
