had a rather unfortunate time with asp.net updates and iis metabase
corrupting. Long story short, I have iis and asp.net working again but
the web sites for sharepoint v3 are all gone. I don't seem to have a
backup of the iis config so i am wondering if I can recreate them
somehow with info from the database? I'd prefer not to remove/reinstall
sharepoint(repairs fail), but if I must I must.

looks like I had some dcom security issues that was preventing the the
timer service from pushing the config into the iis metabase...fun stuff.

Whoa, bummer. Just confirming, did fixing the dcom issues fix your problem?

Yeah, still having a hard time getting search services back, but all the
sites in IIS have returned and are working normally.
