After creating a new document Library, it automatically names the library a
name. So I change this and then I go into the library then to modify settings
and change the name in there so that when I go into the library it has the
name in there too. But on every new library there is always a folder under
the name in the doc. library with a #1 next to it. Is there anyway to change
this. I have looked and not found on as of yet.

How are you creating this library?

What automatically names the library a name?

If you're using the New Document Library page, why don't you just enter the
library name you want there?

How do you change this?

If you already changed the library name, where does the old library name
still appear?

Under what name in the doc. library?

This doesn't happen in Windows SharePoint Services.

It *does* happen in the earlier product SharePoint Team Services.

[If you mean that the folder name for the document library is automatically
the same as the (display) name of the document library.]

If you are using that product, please post to the STS newsgroup at
microsoft.public.sharepoint.teamservices.

It works fine if I create a document library by going into add webpart and
then show all lists. But if I go into add webpart and then drag doc library
webpart over to a zone it gives it a name and then behaves like this. I will
just go the other route from now on.

Hi Jay,

Is the site based on the Meeting Workspace template?
If so, this is why you are seeing the 1 folder.
If you add another meeting occurrence to the site, you will also see a 2
folder.
Each numbered folder relates to the meeting instance.
This is how documents are kept separate for each meeting instance in a
meeting series.
Changing the document library to Series Items should either make the folders
go away or cause uploads to stop using them.
