Set initial document version to 0
Hi all,
I would like to know how could i set the initial document version to 0
instead of the default which is 1. Because, it will reflect better in our
environment where, the first uploaded is version 0. Only if there are any
changes, then modification been made to the document, then uploaded it again,
then it's version 1.
Your help is very much appreciate!
Thank you.

Creating Links to Files on Hard Drives
Thanks for reading my post. As a new user I have managed to get Winserver
2003 loaded and WSS up and working .
With that said I have a need to create links to files that reside on an
external hard drive attached to the server that is running WSS. I'm running
the Desktop version of SQL and have roughly 40 gig of data that needs to be
available (doc's, images, spreadsheets...etc).
My vision is simple...something like the "Documents Libary " with the
excpetion that it has a link to the file on the external drive...not uploaded
to the SQL database.

WSS installed without removing FPSE first - fixup options?
It wasn't me! But now I have to clean up the situation. This is highly
annoying because FPSE isn't even being used by anything.
So I uninstalled FPSE after the fact. I noted that FPSE lingered on in the
IIS web server extensions (even after an iisreset). I tried upgrading the
virtual server anyway as per popup instructions (stsadm -o upgrade), but got
the message
"Cannot upgrade virtual server http://myserver/. Windows SharePoint Services
does not support in-place upgrading of SharePoint Team Services v. 1.0 from
Microsoft or FrontPage Server Extensions. You must migrate the content from
this virtual server to a new virtual server extended with Windows SharePoint
Services."
I don't have spare ip addresses for new virtual servers, so hoping for
another workaround. Any suggestions? Would a stsadm forceupgrade succeed
without breaking everything? Ideally I'd like to avoid reinstalling WSS.
Ta in advance

Question about adding .net 2.0 to existing 2003 server with WSS
Hi all
I have a 2003 server with all the latest MS patches Running WSS with SP2
and SQL 2000 enterprise with SP4. I also have a second non WSS site running
on the same server. I am planning on installing .net 2.0 and SQL 2005
Express for the second site. The WSS site will remain as is with .net 1.1. My
quesiton is if I do install the .net 2.0 and sql express 2005 will that cause
any issues to my existing WSS setup? Thanks a bunch for any tips or advice.

Possible to restore WSS site or list to different Virt server?
OK so we're in the "proof of concept" stage deciding how best or if at
all to use WSS or plunging into SPS for our company. This explains why
we haven't hired anyone who knows what their doing. For now I'm "the
guy" even though I'm a network security guy. (funny huh?)
I blew away telecom's WSS site by accident. Its not a huge deal since
no one's been given the official "go" to start using WSS in production
anyways. But they had some calendering and contact lists I'd like to
get back if possible. I restored the file structure originally at
c:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions to
my home drive.
But where the heck is telecom's site? Shouldn't it be in a
default.aspx or .xml file somewhere deeper in the path? Is what I
describe even possible? I want to restore their site or at least their
calendar and contacts to my new telecom WSS site. Tag: import a calendar from outlook Tag: 42630
WSS backup procedures
Hi,
I would like to backup a WSS site running on SBS2003 and have referred to
the WSS administrator's guide but am still confussed as to the best way to
accomplish this.
Is using the stsadm.exe tool the recommended way? If so, can you provide
script or instructions on how to best run this tool. I have tried several
ways from the examples in the admin guide without success.
I would like to backup the complete site daily. The site is using MDBE not
SQL server DB.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Neal... Tag: import a calendar from outlook Tag: 42629

strange sharepoint permission problem
Hi,
On one of our top level site http://host/sites/test , only users in
"Administrators" group can access the site. If they are "Reader",
"Contributor", or "Webdesigner" then they don't have acess. Before
everybody were able to access. Also strangely, sites beneath it, users
can access just fine eg http://host/sites/test/subsite1x.
Has anybody encounter this and know what to do ?

shortcut to website in document library
Hello everyone,
This has been a problem that has perplexed me and now it isn't working at
all. My users want to be able to access a website address from a document
library. The way I did it in the past is to go to the url, and drag and drop
the .url file into the doc library. This latest time I tried, it is pulling
up the website, which is a framed site, with no content in the frames, just
'page cannot be found errors'. I tested the .url file by clicking on it from
my desktop and it works fine. What is the best way to do what I am trying to
do? Besides using a list instead of a doc library, because I have to have a
doc library. Tag: import a calendar from outlook Tag: 42592
Unable to login to WSS
All,
I am using windows 2003 Standard SP1. I installed WSS 2.0. I'm pretty sure
it is SP2, how can I check that? (I used stsv2.exe to install.)
On this server when I access the site (logged onto server as administrator)
I get into the home page without being prompted for username and password. I
then added users via the: site settings/ Manage users/ Add users and was
able to add user, when I go to my laptop and try to logon as newly added
user, (domain\username and password) when I click ok at the prompt it just
acts like it wants me to put in the password again, after the 3rd try it
gives me the "You are not authorized to view this page" error.
In IIS under my Sharepoint website properties, Directory Security, I have it
set for "Integrated Windows authentication".
I have read many of the related articles, but I'm not sure exactly where the
login is failing. Any help is greatly appreciated. Happy Friday!

how can I do this??

Email and Sharepoint services
Hi.
I have started to use SharePoint and it doesn't send any e-mail.
The address of the smtp server is right and the from and to address e-mail
is right too. So, for example, when I allow a new user to use a virtual
SharePoint server, it is not possible to send an e-mail to this user.
I see that when I set an e-mail account in Outlook I have to enter the
username and password, but in SharePoint there is no way to enter a username
and password. Is it necessary for the SharePoint to send e-mails to put the
username and password in somewhere?

WSS :: Sorting in Document Libraries :: Folders then files
Hello,
I want to set up typical sort order for document library on WSS site. First
folders then files. What sort fields and options I need to use? I tried
"Type" (icon) field but this method does not work for some reason. WSS
displays folders at the bottom of list anyway.
So, I can get required view by clicking on the "Type" field-header but I
can't get the same by setting up view. What's the solution for this strange

I am using the "put document" RPC method to programatically save a document.
Everytime I save the document it increases the document version. The SDK shows
2 sets of put_options values, named "overwrite,createdir,migrationsemantics"
and the other "edit". If I try with the edit option, then the document is not
saved.
Can some one help me with the edit option and what it does, It seem that the
sdk do not shows to much about it.
Thanks

Email script or web part? Flash in sharepoint wants to send email.
Hi,
I have a Flash module in a Sharepoint dashboard that I would like to trigger
an email script. Searching Flash newsgroups there are plenty of examples
with using PHP or even Perl scripts that Flash could pass the email
parameters to (to, from, body, and subject).
Is there a readily available web part or builtin email script that I can
access within a sharepoint dashboard that I could send email parameters to
from a Flash module?
Thank you,

Coveo SharePoint Search returns no results
Hi,
We are trying out Coveo to improve the searching capabilities within a
document database within WSS (SharePoint Services). Although the Admin tool
reports around 3000 documents indexed, searches never return any results. We
have SBS 2003 SP1, SQL Server2000 SP4 with text indexing activated.
Any ideas?

IE 'hang' problem with WSS.
WSS as part of Project Server 2003...I have several users who experience an
Internet Explorer 'hang' when they try to open a document that's been
uploaded to the WSS Documents portion of Project WEB Access. The browser
becomes non-functional when it's trying to launch MS Word to open the
document.
Invoking 'Task Manager' reveals 'Project Server 2003' "not responding" and
'end task' is invoked. While in this state a new IE browser can be launched
and/or word itself can be launched. No messages are generated in the
application event log.
To make matters worse this problem is not consistent from user to user.
Often a user can reboot and successful open documents for a short while.
Once the 'hang' condition occurs, it will occur at every attempt until
another reboot is done.
Operating System is Windows2000professional, with Office 2003 Standard
edition which MS says should work just fine except using the 'edit in
datasheet' function which requires Office Professional.
I'm at a loss here. Any help or suggestions or guidance about where to
research will be VERY appreciated.
Has anyone heard of this or had experience with anything similar.
Thanks,

WSS 2.0 SP2, 404 error on x64
Hello,
I am trying to get WSS 2.0 sp2 to work on my x64 computer. I tried setting
up WSS in standard mode and server farm and neither work. When I right
click on 'SharePoint Central Administration' and click browse, I get the
error.
This is what I have done:
--- I made sure IIS was set to run as a 32 bit app using the following
statement: cscript c:\inetpub\AdminScripts\adsutil.vbs set
w3svc/AppPools/Enable32bitAppOnWin64 1
--- Under the 'Web Service Extensions' in IIS, the only allowed extensions
are ASP.NET 2.x (32 bit) and Windows SharePoint Services.
--- I have tried changing the identity of the application pools.
--- I have tried adding 'Everyone' to the local Administratator's group.
--- I have checked the event logs and I didn't see any errors that seemed
to apply.
I would greatly appreciate your help.
Thank you,

Users gaining access to Sharepoint Intranet
We use sharepoint with a small network which includes 5 people within an
office, and three people who access our server via VPN. All members are
shown as users with AD on SBS2003 server
We now have three other users who need to access the Sharepoint Intranet.
These three are not members of our AD, and are external to our companby and
network. Is there a way to set them up as users for the Sharepoint
Intranet, but without having them as users on our network?
Also what url would these three users use, would they need to have VPN
access or can they simply use http://IPaddress/companyweb?
Thanks

Infopath and Sharepoint
Hi,
When I submit an Infopath form to a sharepoint form library it works as
expected. When I go to the form library to open the submitted form, I click
on the link and an internet explorer window opens with nothing in it.
Next I tried uploading a saved form and and when I clicked on the link the
same thing happened - a blank internet explorer window.
I have a document library with many Word documents in it that I uploaded and
when I click on the link they open in Word.
I tried changing the file association in folder options to have xml files
open with infopath and the same results occurred.
My client is running XP sp2 Infopath sp2. Sharepoint services 2.0 is on
Windows Server 2003.
How do I get the form to open in Infopath when I click on the link without
using the drop down on the side and choosing edit in infopath? Tag: import a calendar from outlook Tag: 42504

How to access the meeting date from a list in a meeting workspace
Hi!
I am working with a template for a meeting workspace. In this workspace one
webpart will be an action list where the actions decided at the meetings will
be listed. In one view in this webpart I want to be able to show only the
actions with due date on the actual meeting date.
Example; You create several meetings. In each meeting the action list will
be reviewed so this will be a series list that covers all meetings. On each
item in the list there will be a due date and in one view the users shall be
able to see only the action points which is due for the current meeting date.
In other words it should not be [today] but the actual meeting date so that
you can switch between different meetings and only see the actual meeting
action points.
Is there a way to access the meeting date to be able to set a condition in a
filter, much like you do when using the [me] or [today] parameters.
Best,

Active directory group wise view permission on web parts.
Hi Friends,
How are you all? Hope you all are doing well. Right now I am
implementing share point.
I am trying to add Active Directory user groups in the Share Point.
According to Active directory users groups I want to give view
permission on the web parts.
We can assume a situation as example as follows:
a) Only the users under the "Executive" group of Active Directory
Can view the "Events" web part.
b) Only the users under the "Manager" group of the Active Directory
Can view the "Image Library" web part.
Is there any provision in Share Point 2003 to do this.
Thanks & Regards,

List formula question
Hi there. I am diving headfirst into WSS to set up a company intranet. At the
moment the company has a number of documents that I want to publish the
contents of as lists. I have two lists;
1. A list of buildings (photo, address, purchase price, and investment sheme
(name and code))
2. A list of investment schemes (name, code, tax numbers etc)
I want to set up my columns in list #1 so that the scheme name and code is
done by lookup from list #2. I can do that OK, but what I want to happen when
adding a new item to list #1 is to choose the scheme code, and then the
scheme name is automatically "calculated" or "populated". Can someone explain
to a n00b like me how this is done? At the moment I have it so that both the
scheme name and code is looked up from list #2. But, because the name and
code are linked, I would prefer that users only have to choose the code only.
Does any of this make sense? Cheers. Tag: import a calendar from outlook Tag: 42479
Cancelling Checkout Still Changes Modified Date
Hi,
If we checkout a document from the library, and checkin via 'Discard
Changes, Undo Checkout', the 'Modified' field will still get updated. I'm
told that this is because as we checkout this document, a flag (or sorts) is
set to lock the document from being edited by other users thus the system
will consider it as an update.
Is there a way to workaround this so as to keep the original 'modified' date
after the undo checkout process?
Thanks in advance! Tag: import a calendar from outlook Tag: 42478

users from multiple domains
I have a WSS 2.0 site running on WS2003 SP1. When I add users from the
same domain the server is a member of these users can authenticate
(integrated or basic) without any issue. When I add users from another
separate domain, WSS adds them without any difficulty but they cannot
authenticate to WSS, either by integrated or basic methods.
any ideas?
