Hi Fida,

From your description, you're getting a "the server connection timeout "
error when try restore a WSS 2.0 site, correct?

I've performed some research on this, one possible issue is that the web
site (IIS virtual server) has enabled anonymous access. And the problem can
be repro via the following steps:

Use SMIGRATE to backup a site collection that has subsites. Turn on
anonymous access for the virtual server in IIS (NOT WSS). Try to restore
the backup and note that you will get an error when it attempts to restore
the subsites. Though it is due to anonymous access, the resulting error
will become connection timeout.

You can check this . If this is the case, you can disable anonymous access
for the duration of the restore.

here is a web article which mentioned some other info about troubleshooting
restore isue:

Thanks for your reply Fida,

Sorry to hear that the problem remains. I'll help perform some further
research on this to see whether there is any other possible issues related
to this. I'll let you know if I get any update.

Sincerely,

Steven Cheng

Hi Steven,

Thanks for the followup, no luck so far after trying the fix ..its still
the
same. however I am getting an event ID 1000 #50070: unable to connect to
the
database STS_Config_24768 on Server\sharepoint. I don't know if this is
related. Do you have any further suggestion. Your help is appreciated
Thanks,
Fida
