I encountered the precise issue described below by another user who posted to
the net in August of 2005, and apparently never got an answer. I searched
this forum and didn't come up with anything either, so I'm appealing for
help! I'm stuck with records in an "issues" list where the built-in (and
uneditable) field "Current" is not in the "yes" state, and I can neither
modify nor delete the records. When one clicks on "Resolve errors", one sees
the underlying message "An unexpected error has occurred. Changes to your
data could not be saved". Uniformly, the affected records are duplicates of
other records with the exception of the status field (and the "Current"
field, of course). Any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated.

======
I'm trying to use SharePoint for bug tracking. I created a new list and
picked "Issues" as the type of list. I customized the list through
"Modify Settings and Colums" so that we have a "Status" field with 4
possible values that may be chosen.

Next, I created 4 views. Each view filters the list according to
one of the statuses.

While using one of these views, I edited an item and changed the
status. When I saved it, the status was not updated? Worse, when I go
to the default view of "All Items", there are now 2 duplicate items
with the same issue ID.

Finally, when I try to delete the old issue (the one that was not
updated), I get the error listed in the subject of this post.

I have reproduced this problem several times.

Anyone else seen this?

Hi

I encountered the same problem and I think I found the solution at
least it worked in my case.

The problem is that you are trying to modify/delete older version of
the issue. The issue list trackes changes and comments for each issue
so if you skip defining the filter "show only items where Current is
equal to Yes" you will see all versions of the same issue (multiple
instances of issues with same ID) and when you try to older versions
you will get this error.

The solution is to always have this filter defined also when you create
new views and then put your custom filter as second filter with AND
between them.

Hope this help.

This seems like a cosmetic fix rather than an actual solution to a problem.
Hard to believe that this is default behavior....

Hi,

I can confirm that this resolves the display issue when filtering lists
I have created a similar help desk and added the field invoice which
can be set to yes or no. When viewing a list of 'To be invoiced" I
would see an entry for each time a job had been edited.

Sharepoint keeps each update individually with only one instance per
job ID set to current.

Therefore, you must set your filter so that it matches your criteria
and also has a filter when column is equal to yes. This forces
Sharepoint to apply the filter only to the most current version of each
item in your lists and stops it from showing "duplicates"
