    - WSSv2 restore fail Hi All - STSv2 (installed actually for Project Server) created a sub site called test http://servername/test stsadm.exe -o backup -url http://ilsproject/test -overwrite -filename c: \stsbackup\testsite.dat then try stsadmin -o restore url http://ilsproject/test -filename c: \stsbackup\testsite.dat but just get You cannot create the root Web "http://server/test" unless an explicit inclusion or a proper wildcard inclusion is defined. only docs say to ensure managed paths set up correctly - so - what is correctly ??     - WSS Extensions Deployment Error I have been trying to use the WSS extensions for deploying a web part and I am getting an error everytime. The error is "No SharePoint Site exists at the specified URL". I don't see anywhere where i can change the deployment settings. Can anyone point me in the right direction. also, i have another issue with the extensions. I am unable to run them on my local computer and i had to install VS 2005 on my dev server to get the extensions to allow me to edit the sharepoint solutions tab in the properties window.     - Dataview Filter problem i am running win2003 with the latest updates, wss v3 but not sharepoint portal server. when i create a data view (in sharepoint designer b2tr) in a web site that references a list in another web site (same virtual server) i get and errer that says "the list that is referenced here no longer exists" and the dataview dies. ie. it returns a non specific error. any help would be appreciated.     - Search functionality I need to implement the following functionality on WSS 3.0 (or MOSS 2007 if WSS can not do this thing). I will have a knowledge area which will be used by a number of departments. All items will be readable by anyone, however users would like to be able to filter items either from their own department, or else from any of the departments.     - Send to document library Hello, I'm having trouble with the Send To functionality of WSS V3.0. I'm trying to copy a document from one document library to another and select Send To - Other Location on the files drop down menu. I then specify the other location as follows: http://myserver.mydomain.com/Team Site/Shared Documents When I click okay to proceed I get a Warning Dialog Box with no message, just the okay button.     - Error Installing Sharepoint Services 3.0 on Windows Storage Server 2003 R2 I wonder if anyone can help me. I am trying to install Windows Sharepoint Services version 3.0 on a server running Microaoft Windows Storage Server 2003 R2. I have installed the .NET framwork V3.0 on the server and verified that ASP.NET V2.0 Web Server extension is set to Allow. Everytime I run the setup program I receive the error message: Setup is unable to proceed due to the following error(s) This product requires ASP.NET v2.0 to be set to 'Allow' in the list of Internet Information Services (IIS) Web Server Extensions. If it is not available in the list, re-install ASP.NET v2.0. Correct the issue(s) listed above and re-run setup. Any help would be appreciated.     - service manager for msde The Service Manager for MSDE, which shows up in the system tray, does not show any connections, even when I click on the drop down window. Is this not needed for SharePoint? Is there a problem I need to fix? In the event viewer, I also see an error message saying that SharPoint cannot connect to the database.     - WSS 2.0 to 3.0 excluded path issues and HTTP get handler I upgraded our web server to WSS 3.0 yesterday. The server runs other applications also. Is this the correct method to use here? Secondly I notice the exclude a path option in admin no longer exists I used this before! Finally, we also have microsoft class server installed on the server and for some reason even with the above changes the images dont load and if you try and view them you get a: [HttpException (0x80004005): No http handler was found for request type 'GET'] Any ideas about this?     - WSS 3 SQL Connection Flood Hi, I am having a weird behavior out of WSS 3. When i look in my SQL 2005 log, I can see that the service account used in IIS for SharePoint, is login in SQL every 20 seconds or so. The site is in development phase so no one is accessing the server. Here is a look at my log. Note that MTI\wss is the service account i was talking about. 11/27/2006 00:09:46,Logon,Unknown,Login succeeded for user 'MTI\wss'. Connection: trusted.     - Publishing SQL Reports in WSS 3.0 behind ISA 2004 I installed SQL 2005 SP2, WSS 3.0 and SSRS Add-in for Sharepoint on a clean server (what a chore - the readme doesn't match the experience) and am trying to access the reports over the internet behind ISA 2004. I'm using the same URL of a report server that handled WSS 2.0 and SQL Reporting - I set the port to 8080 as directed in the readme, and set up a web listening rule in ISA for http on port 8080, but I get page can not be found.     - Change Modifiy date to 'Date Picture taken' Since the Picture gallery does not know how to read the MetaData in the JPG, (Date Picture Taken) does anyone know of a way to change the Modified date of a file to be the Date the Picture was taken? The Program I use to Make the 8MP images web friendly changes the Modified date to the date I exported them, so the order the Pictures is pretty random. Any Suggestions?     - WSS 3.0 Getting Incoming Email to Work with Exchange Server Hi, I would like to configure Windows Sharepoint Services 3.0 with my exchange so i can route emails to lists directory etc.... I have searched all over the place but only found referenced made to how it is done but no step by step. Can anyone please guide me to achieve this goal ? I have DC & EX on two different servers and i would not like to configure the basic option which requires installing SMTP Services on the server. I have installed WSS on DC and would like to connect it to EXchange. I am going to "Central Administration > Operations > Incoming E-Mail Settings" and checking Advance option there which provides space to give "Email Drop Folder" sounds simple but how do you get those emails over in the folder which i provided? do i have to make some kind of stmp virtual server ? and if you know about "Use the SharePoint Directory Management Service to create distribution groups and contacts?" can you give me some hints for that as well thanks in advance.     - Problem with one site after WSS2 -> WSS3 upgrade I had 2 sites on WSS2 (WS2003 SP1 standalone) and just did the WSS3 inplace upgrade. I ran into the Network Service unable to login error but solved it according to Technet using psconfig. After the upgrade is complete, I am having problems with one of the sites. When I browse to the site, the page will respond with: An unexpected error has occurred. Web Parts Maintenance Page: If you have permission, you can use this page to temporarily close Web Parts or remove personal settings. For more information, contact your site administrator. Troubleshoot issues with Windows SharePoint Services.     - Sharepoint site error when access after upgrade from wss2 to wss3 I am getting something strange here..... I have 2 sharepoint sites on my WS2003 and just upgraded to wss3. I encountered the Network Service permission error but I solved it according to technet by psconfig command line. Now one of the 2 sites has no problem and everything works. The other gives me an error everytime I access and gave me a choice of doing webparts maintenance.     - Upload document sharepoint gets error Hello, I keep on getting this strange error while uploading a document larger than 1mb to sharepoint. The contentdb is in an sql server 2000 SP 3. In the eventlog I keep on getting an insufficient memory error when I try to upload this document. I already checked if the compatibility level for the sql db is level 80, memory settings for the sqlserver are dynamically. The standard settings for uploading documents on sharepoint are the standard ones (50mb), so nothing is wrong here I assume... The server has 2 gig ram. Now that WSS has been released and we are under pressure to deploy I'll try again! WSS v3 on Server 2003. Deployed as standalone install with embedded SQL server express. Is it possible to move the default content database location either during or after the install to another partition on the server? This was possible under v2 (using MSDE and setupsts.exe with the /datadir option) but despite trawling the web I can't find a similar solution for v3. HI, I have a requirement for a document library where some users should only be able to add to the library, not open the documents that has been added by others. I wanted to create a custom permission level with List Permissions - Add Items as the only permission, but it seems to force List Permissions - View Items as well. Accepting this pair of permissions, I then give certain users this level of permissions, but those users then can't see the document library at all (and therefore don't seem to be able to add to it).     - SPView RenderAsHtml Small Fonts I am attempting to use the RenderAsHtml to render a View of the "Shared Documents" List. I have tried all of the views available and in every case the resulting font size is very small, so as not to be readable. There are multiple issues with this field. 1. Whenever you upload a document, the title field is not available to put information into. By default whatever is in the document's properties Title field will be uploaded. 2. The Title is not a required field. To fix above problems: The title field is defined in the SCHEMA.xml file for the document library type. Open this file from \1033\sts\lists\doclib locate the line(s): <Fields> <Field Type="Text" Name="Title" ShowInNewForm="FALSE" ShowInFileDlg="FALSE" DisplayName="Title" Sealed="TRUE"></Field></Fields> You will want to change the ShowInNewForm to TRUE to get it to display in the web UI, ShowInFileDLG to TRUE for the browse-using-Office UI. To make it required simply add Required="TRUE" Another perk is that this resolves the issue of when a list is linked to a document library lookup and only the Title or ID columns are available for the user to select documents. I ran the .net 3.0 install, ran "prescan /all" (extracted from sharepoint.exe on separate computer). Upon running the Configuration Wizard I get the following (from Update.log). ( I ran the wizard several times as the original error said a connection to the configuration DB was active - this is from the last run of the wizard. Any assistance would be appreciated.     - Installing Sharepoint Service 3.0 Hi, I am trying to install WSS 3.0 on Server 2003 OS. My C drive is compressed except for the SQL server installation folder (C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server) When installing WSS 3.0 the installtion fails while installing database. I traced the error logs and found out that the database is being installed in some folder under C:\Windows which is not compressed and hence failing as the SQL server can not be installed on compressed folders. Can anyone help in letting me know under which folder, the database gets installed by default and is there any option to change this location so that all my database folders are in one place (SQL server installtion folder)?     - Adding Trusted Users Hi, I'm able to add trusted users from another domain thru the "Manager User" window. What I'd like to do is to be able search trusted users in "Select users and groups -- Web Page Dialog" window. Thru this window, Sharepoint can only search the users in the local domain. Is there a setup in Sharepoint to enable selecting users from a trusted domain? Can the "aclinv.aspx", "userPicker.aspx" (and others) be modified to search and select trusted domain users? Another way I'm looking at this is to create a Active Directory webpart to display trusted users, select users and add them to a site. Any help is certainly appreciated. A sample code would be nice.     - Sharepiont Services 3.0 upgrade So I upgraded our Sharepoint server 2.0 running sql 2005 to Sharepoint Services 3.0. It has been a difficult due to the fact documentation is poor. I have mostly everything working except the search function for the site. When I try to search I get the following error: "Your search cannot be completed because this site is not assigned to an indexer. Contact your administrator for more information."     - Lookup (Choice) field for 'People and Groups' in WSS 3.0 I may be missing something- Is there a way to return a choice pull-down list of people (users)via a lookup? The current way to populate the 'Assigned To' field in Tasks is very kludgy even though the 'People and Groups' is implemented much better in WSS 3.0.     - WSS 3.0 - Content Database Migration and Prescan When attempting to migrate a Content Database I received an error that the Prescan tool had not been run. How does it know this? Does prescan record information in the 2.0 database. Do I have to run it in the old WSS 2.0 environment before restoring any content databases to the clean WSS 3.0 farm and attaching it?     - "Allow all authenticated users to access site" is disabled Hi, We have a WSS implementation. For almost all the sites, for 'All Authenticated Users', "Allow all authenticated users to access site" is set to No and the radio button is enabled but for one site, it is set to Yes and the radio button is disabled! Is it some WSS feature that once we set the radio button to Yes, it gets disabled and cannot be set back to No? We desperately need to set it back to No. How can I enable the radio button and set it to No? Even if it involves programming, I am up to it.     - Document version removal I read recently that there is some sort of utility in the resource kit which can be run which will eliminate all document versions over a defined number (i.e. keep last 5 versions). I just installed WSS 3.0 on a Windows 2003 SBS per the whitepaper, but I'm
not having any luck configuring outgoing email for sharepoint notifications
etc. In sharepoint central administration the outgoing email server is
correctly to
SERVERNAME.DomainName.local. I've tried multiple e-mail addresses in the
outgoing box with no success. I've checked the exchange queue and it doesn't
have the message listed. My default SMTP server has anonymous access
enabled, no certificate, and is set to accept all connections. The relay is
set to allow the server's IP address.
