    - MSNBC Webparts Not Updating?!? Hello, I've noticed that my MSNBC Webparts (Weather, Business, Stocks, etc...) haven't been updating for a few days now.     - Sharepoint with backup exec I'm a newbie with all of this and I'm hoping that one or two of you have a bit more experience than me and can point me in the right direction. Here goes: I have a backup exec server running 10d. I also have a stand alone Sharepoint 2001 server. An agent currently runs which dumps the contents of the sharepoint database to a backup file for a full backup. However no backups are currently running on the individual workspaces. On my backup server, I recently added the license key for the Sharepoint Portal Server Agent that integrates with backup exec. I want to create a backup job for my sharepoint server that will specifically target the sharepoint installation. This is where my knowledge of backup exec/sharepoint runs dry. I assume, that like everything else, I can drill down in the selections list and simply check the sharepoint installation. I try this, but Sharepoint is not visible when I drill down to the Portal Server. I've also noticed that there's a "Microsoft Sharepoint Server Farms" option under remote selections as well. There is nothing in it. I right click on it and select the "add server farm" option. I type in my web server name, but it won't take it. From the remote server, I've turned on advertizing and specified my backup server. This too has been unsuccessful. I'm not sure what I am doing wrong. I've looked all over for something that tells me how to configure the SPS agent, but there is nothing intuitive in backup exec to do this. All the internet docs that I've searched are either vague or just kind of assume that the basic setup is good to go. Either something is wrong, or I need to do some more configuring to get this to work. Unfortunately, I'm not sure which one is which. Can someone help me? Does anyone have some step by step instructions to configure this, or is there actually a problem here that I need to troubleshoot. If so, can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks.     - User Rights I know this may sound quite simple. I have created a 5-tier site structure that works quite well. Sites are accessed by a Links object containing thier URL. My problem is, although I can see the users I have created as members, those users cannot see any entries the URL lists, only the web-part section. It is only when I add them as administrators or Web designers, that they can see the lists. However, I require them to be at Read and content levels only (so they can see the urls, click on them but cannot change them). Any Pointers as to what I have mis-configured would be appreciated.     - Access request email Hello, I have been looking at an issue a user has raised for a WSS site. When the site was first created the user was one of the owners - she has since changed jobs and the ownership was changed. The issue is that even though she has been fully removed from the site and the owner has been changed, she still recieves these access requests. I have checked the site and there is no reference to the user any more. If a user has been removed from the site and they are not showing as having any alerts in 'Manage User Alerts', is there another location that may hold this old information?     - OWS.JS not transferred into temporary internet files I am having a problem with the OWS.JS file. I made some changes to the file and renamed it CUSTOM_OWS.JS I now have 2 javascript files in the layouts/1033 folder, the original OWS.JS and my CUSTOM_OWS.JS. The problem i keep encountering are errors on load up of the home page. The error messages are 'Object Expected' and 'contextinfo undefined'. Only a selection of end users are actually encountering problems, and the only possibility i can think of is the fact that they do not have the OWS.JS (or CUSTOM_OWS.JS) file within their temporary internet files, while users with WSS functioning correctly having the 2 files within their temp files. I have tried removing the custom_ows file so i was back to the 'original' state and i have performed iisresets quite often. Any ideas of how i can fix this?     - To Move a Site from One Server (Development Server) to Another Server (Production Server) Hi, Scenario: To Move a Site from One Server (Dev Server) to Another Server (Production Server). I want to restore all the information along with the security settings and user details. The Things I have tried: STSADM: I have tried using STSADM. I am able to move the site from one portal to another portal within the server. But when I try to move the site from dev server to prod server I am getting the following error. "Exception from HRESULT: 0x80040E14" SMigrate: I am able to move the site from one server to another server but the security setting, user information and a few documents are lost. Can anyone tell me if I can use STSADM for restoring a site across servers???....If yes, How? (In the Admin Guide microsoft gave..."STSADM is not intended for moving a site to a new server" .....But in a few forums they said it is possible to move a sitre from one server to another.)     - Windows Sharepoint Services v3 extendvs Hi, I just installed wss v3 on windows 2k3 server. I can use "SharePoint Central Administration", the web interface to extend virtual server without a problem. However, when I try to use commandline, it is giving me some problem stsadm.exe -o extendvs -url "http://test.test.com:80" -ownerlogin test-server\Administrator -owneremail wen@test.com -description "test - test.test.com" -apidname MSSharePointAppPool The iis entry is already there with the header value of "test.test.com" port 80 the description of iis entry is "test - test.test.com" stsadm finds the correct entry and extend it, everything looks great besides the iis header value, it adds another wildcard that listens to port 80 I have more than 1 domains on this machine using same IP address, so this kills other domains on IIS. Would someone please let me know if there is a way that you can extend virtual server w/o adding extra host header using commandline?     - Fax routing problem (event 32089) Hello, I installed sharepoint services 2.0 with sp2 on SBS 2003 with sp1. Sharepoint's content and configuration databases are on MS SQL 2000 with SP4 on the same server. Sharepoint is running with an application pool identity of a domain user (both company web and management site). Also fax services are working. There is no problem related to sharepoint's functionality, i.e. I can manage, configure and display companyweb as I demand. There is no problem also on incoming faxes in terms of archival to a disk folder and routing to e-mail clients. However, the problem is incoming faxes are not routed to sharepoint's incoming faxes document library. I have read all the replies regarding this subject. I registered sbssharepoint.dll and checked the permissions on stswrapper.dll file. Everything seems to be OK. However, I'm having SharePoint services 2.0 (event id: 1000) and Microsoft Fax (event id: 32089) errors on my event log, and incoming faxes library is empty. Another clue on the resolution of this problem may be this information: Although there is a fax service up and running on the server, sharepoint services installation did not autotically install Fax Document Library. I have to install fax library through a template export (on which faxes are routed to sharepoint site) and import it to this server. I have uninstalled and reinstalled sharepoint services several times on the server. Unfortunately, it did not install fax library and I manually installed it. Any help greatly appreciated.     - Problem with some images in the layouts Hello all, I changed the upper left images in the layouts pages for a logo image of my company. But now when I try to open the website from another server (just like a normal user will be using the sharepoint) I can not see the images. Can somebody tell me what to do?     - Faulkting Application Error... The astonishing aspect of this issue is that it started overnight after 2 years of using STS flawlessly. This event appears anyone tries to access the site. Please review this log entry to discover what caused this error to occur I have found no information other than this issue has reported as fixed in SP1 and SP2 for STS and I have SP2 loaded with the same results.     - Infopath Relink I installed a new template for change management for my group's WSS. I've followed all the instructions on the download page for relinking the forms, but I'm getting a pop-up after submitting asking for username/pw for quilogy.net. Is there something else that I need to do that is not listed in the instructions below? In FrontPage 2003, all i have to do is to right click on the body of the form and choose "Customize SharePoint List Form". The fields and their labels will be shown in a table. In this new version of FrontPage-- SharePoint Designer-- this option is gone!! Question: How can I "customerize the SharePoint List Form" using the new designer.     - WSS v3 "gradual upgrade" error All, I am testing the gradual upgrade process for WSS v2 to WSS v3. I get the software installed fine. When I go to the Central Admin page, Operations, Upgrade and Migration, Site content upgrade status I get the following error: Updates are currently disallowed on GET reqeust.     - Moving server and Meeting Workspaces Hi, We had a simple installation of SPS on a single SPS server, let's call it SPS1. Users created recurring Meeting Workspaces on this server. A new server farm was configured and SPS1 became the job/index server. 2 new load balanced web servers were commisioned given the name SPS. SPS1 no longer is a webserver as well (as this configuration is not supported) and users had to change bookmarks and shortcuts to access the portal and sites, etc. via http://SPS instead of http://SPS1. This is all sorted and working well, except for the previously created Meeting Workspaces. The meeting workspace still exists (on SPS), but the hyperlinks in Outlook (both in the body and in the panel) still point to SPS1! Without losing the content of the existing Meeting workspaces, how can I get these meetings to point to the new server? I know this error took place on an SharePoint Portal Server, but since Meeting Workspaces are part of WSS, I was hoping for some help on the matter here...Any help would be greatly appreciated.     - Lists after V3 upgrade Our test server has been upgrade to V3 but cosmetically none of the lists have taken on the V3 look they are instead stuck somewhere between V2 and V3.     - dws double hop credentials 401 unauthorized failure I'm stumped by a double-hop problem where Internet Explorer calls a webservice on server-A that calls the dws.CreateFolder webservice in Sharepoint Portal Server (SPS) on server-B. The dws webservice returns a 401: Unauthorized HTTP error when default credentials are used by the Server-A webservice. The problem goes away if the Server-A webservice creates and passes new credentials from an authorized user's login and password strings. I need to use default credentials as SPS has to show the identity of the user responsible for the creation of each folder. According to the security logs from both servers, the user's credentials are properly arriving from the client and validating on Server-A. But, when passed from the webservice on Server-A to the dws webservice on Server-B, the log shows Anomynous User is transmitted instead of the credentials of the user that logged in as a client. I've read alot of posts about double hops, and its not quite clear what needs to be done. I've tried setting delegation as perscribed in MSDN and so far nothing has worked. I don't know if this problem is because of the combination of hardware and O/S or their configuration.     - Login Problem : Login Prompt Doesn't Show up!! Hello all, I have run into a very big login problem with my WSS 2.0 installation. I have set up kerberos authentication and it worked fine for me and others inside the company. However there are some PC's that stopped working, since users cannot login from there. When they try to get to the WSS site they get the error Access denied. You do not have permission to perform this action or access this resource. Access requests are not enabled. NOTICE: This thing shows up without even showing the login prompt!! What is more I found that I can access the site by a)using firefox b)running iexplore as a different user. Searching around I found other people who have the same problem but no answer yet... Is there any way I can get it to work? I'd like our employees to read and agree to a policy regarding appropriate content for posting to the Announcements section .     - no more smigrate :-( Hi all Struggling without the WSS3 administrators guide. Has it been released? We have a relatively large WSS site with many subwebs - around 20gig SQL DB all up. With WSS2, I used to use smigrate is an easy means to restore individual files from a backed up library. I had a script that listed all site collections for a given virtual server, and then recursively run stsadm -enumsubwebs for each site collection. For each subweb, I would then run smigrate with the -e option to then do subwebs individually. I did this so we ended up with lots of smaller, more managable FWP files and not a monster one. This was not for true DR, but more for the common situation of a developer stuffing up a subweb or files in a document library being clobbered. This method allowed for quick restores of common types of data. So now with WSS3 you lose smigrate and have to use STSADM export/import. I also see that we have lost the use of the -e parameter? Can anybody confirm this?     - Authentication on localhost, ports work but not FDQN Hi, Englbert: SP2003 non portal! SQL2005 I have a strange issue when browsing to my "configerable" SP site on local host. If I browse on the SP-Server to the site using http:localhost:port then I can authenticate. I can also browse using FDQN from other PCs and authenticate no problem. But if I browse on the SP-Server using FDQN it refuses to athenticate! Ive tried every permutation to no avail. What on earth can be the problem?     - explorer view - error cutting and pasting files We have a problem that recently started where when users put a document library into Explorer View and then try to cut and paste files from that document library into another document library that is in Explorer view, they receive the following message: "Cannot copy <filename>: Access is denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use." If they try to drag and drop the file from one document library to another, they get "Cannot move <filename>: Cannot read from the source file or disk." They have appropriate security to the document libraries. Additionally, this problem is occuring seemingly for everyone in all the document libraries. The files are not corrupt and we are able to upload files into the document libraries. My first thought was that the content database was full (I don't have access to this information), but I'm able to add files individually, so this doesn't seem likely.     - dot net question Hello, Is it possible to install Dot Net 2.0 on a WSS server that is using Dot Net 1.1 and not break anything? I'm only asking because we have another application on this server that is being upgraded and it needs Dot Net 2.0. I believe I read somewhere that you can't have both Dot Net versions on a server running WSS. Can anyone confirm this?     - Connecting webparts across pages I have a need to connect a webpart to multiple webparts on another page. I thought this was possible. Only the first webpart on the second page is filtering based on what was chosen from the first pages webpart. The other webparts on the second page display all the records in their respective lists.     - Icons in Shared Documents repositories. ***Apologies if this is posted in the wrong forum*** Just a real quick question and hopefully there will be a nice quick answer as I am sure that someone knows all about this one. In my 'shared documents' document repositories I used to see nice little icons next to the PDF files that had been shared. We recently moved our SPP2003/WSS2.0 installation from one server to another and I believe that this little oddity appeared after the move. If anyone can give me a hint or tip as to where I should begin looking to sort out this one it would be greatly appreciated.     - WSSv3 beta2 - Can't login Hi, I can't seem to login to a new install of WSSV3 beta2. Installed on a cloned virtual machine. I know there were issues with this, but I've run sysprep, so I think the issue with the SID is not the problem. I installed on a single server. But I can't seem to login. The logs show that I am trying to authenticate with Kerberos. I have since tried to change this to NTLM.     - Pre-populated custom fields in discussion board I have a sharepoint web site which contains a discussion board. I have added 2 additional columns to the message called assignedTo and Priority. Currently when i reply to any post, only the subject field gets prepopulated with data. I require that both these fields (assignedTo and Priority) should get prepopulated with the data that the message creator has entered. Please advice.     - WSS - slow to display/edit list item I have multiple WSS sites running on a single server, using Sharepoint Portal Server 2003. All sites have similar - if not identical - lists. One particular site is very slow when you click a list item to view it, or to edit it. E.g. When you display a list of issues, then click one particular issue to display the details it can take 20-30 seconds to fully display. The data is displayed almost immediately, however the progress bar at the bottom of the screen takes 20-30 seconds before it completes and then displays the 'back to list' option. It seems to be site specific; other sites on the same server do not have this issue. What processing is Sharepoint doing when it displays a list item on screen? There are three fields which display user information, so I wondered if the larger number of users on the slow site would make the difference. Having reviewed the user list, there are now less users on this site than on another comparable site and it has improved performance slightly, but nowhere near enough. None of the sites are yet approaching 2000 list items per list even including all the previous versions, although several sites are reaching the 1000-1500 mark. Does the number of current records and number of total records have an impact? I.e. if one site's list is more heavily maintained than the other then there will be lot of previous version records.     - Display name not showing and 2 domains Hello, I have a server running Windows sharepoint services, this server is located domainA. When I add a user to a site in domainA the display name shows correctly (first name, last name). Another domain (let's call it DomainB) is also in reach and I can add user from domainB. The only thing is that the display name is NOT showing correctly (it shows only the username, not first name, last name). Users from domainB can logon correctly, only display name is not showing. I know I can change this by hand but that is not an option because we have a lot of users in domainB. Can anyone help me with this?     - WSS v3 Installation Hi All, I have spent the last 3 days trying to install Windows Sharepoint services version 3 but to no avail. The problem occurs during the configuration procedure - once the config db is being created (see exception below). I have also tried using an installation of SQL in order to avoid using MSDE but to no avail. The user I am using to access the DB has the necessary rights (DB Creator / System Administrator and Security Administrator) in fact the following databases are being created: SharePoint_Config and SharePoint_AdminContent_2d45eeff-afdd-4a97-94d8-04ec0c78bed4. Please note that this installation is on a fresh installation of Windows 2003 R2 - and I am not using a VPC installation. We would like to create a new page using the 4 column layout template and
then make this the default/home page for the site. We've created this new
page but can not figure out how to replace the default.aspx page. How can I
do this?

If you want the page to replace out of all sites created or have beencreated
from the standard SharePoint site definition (STS folder in your templates
directory) assuming that you have already started creating site(s) from it
(which modifying the default site definition files is unsupported by
Microsoft), then you could simply replace the default.aspx in STS and your
changes will appear. You could optionally create a new site definition by
making a copy of the STS folder and making some webtemps (in the XML folder)
changes in order to make SharePoint aware of your modifications.

If you want it to appear on just one page, just use frontpage.
