Multi-selects in a Lookup function
Is there a way to enable multi-select(s) using the "Lookup" function in WSS
2003? Out of the box, Lookups only allow you to select one item in the Lookup
display. Has anyone come up with a solution for this or a work around?

unable to upload multiple files into document library from pocket
hello,
I am facing a problem whereby the user cannot see the option to upload
multiple files to the document library throught a POCKET PC running on
Windows Mobile 2003. I have tried pocket pc web browsers like PIE, thunder
hawk, minimo, opera and jazilla. Since Engelbert suggested that Office 2003
is required,
how do i overcome this problem since pocket pc does not support office 2003?

Shared Workspace & VBA
Hi,
Our requirement is to work on the local copy of a Shared Workspace
document and update the original when required. the local copy needs to
be created dynamically on a certain user interaction.
Can we use Save Updateable Copy feature using VBA or VB from client
side.
We tried using the CheckOut and CheckIn method from Word using
VBA...but while saving the server copy gets saved.

Moving server and Meeting Workspaces
Hi,
We had a simple installation of SPS on a single SPS server, let's call
it SPS1. Users created recurring Meeting Workspaces on this server.
A new server farm was configured and SPS1 became the job/index server.
2 new load balanced web servers were commisioned given the name SPS.
SPS1 no longer is a webserver as well (as this configuration is not
supported) and users had to change bookmarks and shortcuts to access
the portal and sites, etc. via http://SPS instead of http://SPS1.
This is all sorted and working well, except for the previously created
Meeting Workspaces. The meeting workspace still exists (on SPS), but
the hyperlinks in Outlook (both in the body and in the panel) still
point to SPS1!
Without losing the content of the existing Meeting workspaces, how can
I get these meetings to point to the new server?
I know this error took place on an SharePoint Portal Server, but since
Meeting Workspaces are part of WSS, I was hoping for some help on the
matter here...Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Lists after V3 upgrade
Our test server has been upgrade to V3 but cosmetically none of the lists
have taken on the V3 look they are instead stuck somewhere between V2 and V3.
Did this happen to anyone else, is it fixable or did the MS "design team"
(and I'm using that term loosly) not worry about having this done since we're
only in beta ATM?

dws double hop credentials 401 unauthorized failure
I'm stumped by a double-hop problem where Internet Explorer calls a
webservice on server-A that calls the dws.CreateFolder webservice in
Sharepoint Portal Server (SPS) on server-B. The dws webservice returns
a 401: Unauthorized HTTP error when default credentials are used by the
Server-A webservice. The problem goes away if the Server-A webservice
creates and passes new credentials from an authorized user's login and
password strings.
I need to use default credentials as SPS has to show the identity of
the user responsible for the creation of each folder.
According to the security logs from both servers, the user's
credentials are properly arriving from the client and validating on
Server-A. But, when passed from the webservice on Server-A to the dws
webservice on Server-B, the log shows Anomynous User is transmitted
instead of the credentials of the user that logged in as a client.
I've read alot of posts about double hops, and its not quite clear what
needs to be done. I've tried setting delegation as perscribed in MSDN
and so far nothing has worked. I don't know if this problem is because
of the combination of hardware and O/S or their configuration. I'ld
appreciate hearing from you if you've had similar experiences or any
remedies - thanks

Login Problem : Login Prompt Doesn't Show up!!
Hello all,
I have run into a very big login problem with my WSS 2.0 installation. I
have set up kerberos authentication and it worked fine for me and others
inside the company. However there are some PC's that stopped working, since
users cannot login from there.
When they try to get to the WSS site they get the error
Access denied. You do not have permission to perform this action or access
this resource.
Access requests are not enabled.
NOTICE: This thing shows up without even showing the login prompt!!
What is more I found that I can access the site by a)using firefox b)running
iexplore as a different user.
Searching around I found other people who have the same problem but no
answer yet...
Is there any way I can get it to work? I don't want to use NTLM authentication

SQL Error 10054
Hi,
About 2-3 times a week we are getting a SQL 10054 error...
Our environment is SQL 2005 as the backend on its own server with WSS
as the Frontend on its own server...
The SQL 2005 install has multiple databases in it...

script to add user to group?
Hi, for our intranet, I'm running WSSv2 on W2003R2 with SQL2005, single
server. I'd like our employees to read and agree to a policy regarding
appropriate content for posting to the Announcements section . Anyone know or
have suggestions for a script or other methods to enable users read a policy
online, check a box indicating that they agree with the policy, and
automatically add the user to the contributors group for that web part (or

Explorer view and Web Folders
Hello!
I've got two SPS installations. One small and one large farm.
If I go to explorer view of a doc lib in one of the WSS sites, a web
folder is created immediately in My Network Places.
On the other one I have to open a doc in Office and go to SaveAs until
it's created.
Any ideas?

Hi all
Struggling without the WSS3 administrators guide. Has it been released?
We have a relatively large WSS site with many subwebs - around 20gig SQL DB
all up. With WSS2, I used to use smigrate is an easy means to restore
individual files from a backed up library. I had a script that listed all
site collections for a given virtual server, and then recursively run stsadm
-enumsubwebs for each site collection. For each subweb, I would then run
smigrate with the -e option to then do subwebs individually.
I did this so we ended up with lots of smaller, more managable FWP files and
not a monster one. This was not for true DR, but more for the common
situation of a developer stuffing up a subweb or files in a document library
being clobbered. This method allowed for quick restores of common types of
data.
So now with WSS3 you lose smigrate and have to use STSADM export/import. I
also see that we have lost the use of the -e parameter? Can anybody confirm
this?
Now as another question - as I'm struggling to find out an answer, does
stsadm -o backup allow a restore to a completely separate sharepoint box or

We have a task list that contains about 300 entries. We want to change the
list to a Picture Library. Does anyone know of a way we can move the

Excel Synchronize more than one lists
Hi all,
I have a single excel containing several worksheets,
in which each worksheet shows a custom list in Sharepoint.
Are there any idea to synchronize all the worksheets / custom lists
by a single button or options? Any existing VBA can do that?
It may be time wasting to sychronize each one by one. :P

Authentication on localhost, ports work but not FDQN
Hi,
Englbert: SP2003 non portal! SQL2005
I have a strange issue when browsing to my "configerable" SP site on local
host.
If I browse on the SP-Server to the site using http:localhost:port then I
can authenticate.
I can also browse using FDQN from other PCs and authenticate no problem.
But if I browse on the SP-Server using FDQN it refuses to athenticate! Ive
tried every permutation to no avail.
What on earth can be the problem? Thanks

explorer view - error cutting and pasting files
We have a problem that recently started where when users put a document
library into Explorer View and then try to cut and paste files from that
document library into another document library that is in Explorer view, they
receive the following message: "Cannot copy <filename>: Access is denied.
Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not
currently in use."
If they try to drag and drop the file from one document library to another,
they get "Cannot move <filename>: Cannot read from the source file or disk."
They have appropriate security to the document libraries. Additionally, this
problem is occuring seemingly for everyone in all the document libraries. The
files are not corrupt and we are able to upload files into the document
libraries. My first thought was that the content database was full (I don't
have access to this information), but I'm able to add files individually, so
this doesn't seem likely.
Any suggestions are appreciated.

dot net question
Hello,
Is it possible to install Dot Net 2.0 on a WSS server that is using Dot Net
1.1 and not break anything? I'm only asking because we have another
application on this server that is being upgraded and it needs Dot Net 2.0. I
believe I read somewhere that you can't have both Dot Net versions on a
server running WSS. Can anyone confirm this?
On another note, if for some reason I needed to uninstall and reinstall Dot
Net 1.1, would this break my WSS site?

Connecting webparts across pages
I have a need to connect a webpart to multiple webparts on another page. I
thought this was possible. Only the first webpart on the second page is
filtering based on what was chosen from the first pages webpart. The other
webparts on the second page display all the records in their respective

Icons in Shared Documents repositories.

Just a real quick question and hopefully there will be a nice quick answer
as I am sure that someone knows all about this one.
In my 'shared documents' document repositories I used to see nice little
icons next to the PDF files that had been shared. We recently moved our
SPP2003/WSS2.0 installation from one server to another and I believe that
this little oddity appeared after the move.
If anyone can give me a hint or tip as to where I should begin looking to
sort out this one it would be greatly appreciated. I know that my boss is
going to notice soon and ask me about it. :)

Extranet Questions
What is the best way to set up an Extranet? We are going to use it for
our customers and would like to use account creation mode for
simplicity.
Here are a few questions:
1) How should the computer be set up... child domain, seperate domain?
We plan on putting the server on a DMZ.
2) Can I use MSSQL Express 2005 for the database?
3) Do I need 2 seperate servers, one for DC and the second for WSS?
4) Is there any good documentation out there on how to do this... I
have the Microsoft Resource Kit book.

WSSv3 beta2 - Can't login
Hi,
I can't seem to login to a new install of WSSV3 beta2. Installed on a
cloned virtual machine. I know there were issues with this, but I've run
sysprep, so I think the issue with the SID is not the problem. I installed
on a single server. But I can't seem to login. The logs show that I am
trying to authenticate with Kerberos. I have since tried to change this to
NTLM. Changing to NTLM seemed successful, but I still can't login and the
logs still show that I am using kerberos.

Pre-populated custom fields in discussion board
I have a sharepoint web site which contains a discussion board. I have added
2 additional columns to the message called assignedTo and Priority.
Currently when i reply to any post, only the subject field gets prepopulated
with data.
I require that both these fields (assignedTo and Priority) should get
prepopulated with the data that the message creator has entered.

WSS - slow to display/edit list item
I have multiple WSS sites running on a single server, using Sharepoint Portal
Server 2003. All sites have similar - if not identical - lists. One
particular site is very slow when you click a list item to view it, or to
edit it. E.g. When you display a list of issues, then click one particular
issue to display the details it can take
20-30 seconds to fully display. The data is displayed almost immediately,
however the progress bar at the bottom of the screen takes 20-30 seconds
before it completes and then displays the 'back to list' option.
It seems to be site specific; other sites on the same server do not have
this issue.
What processing is Sharepoint doing when it displays a list item on screen?
There are three fields which display user information, so I wondered if the
larger number of users on the slow site would make the difference. Having
reviewed the user list, there are now less users on this site than on another
comparable site and it has improved performance slightly, but nowhere near
enough.
None of the sites are yet approaching 2000 list items per list even
including all the previous versions, although several sites are reaching the
1000-1500 mark.
Does the number of current records and number of total records have an
impact? I.e. if one site's list is more heavily maintained than the other
then there will be lot of previous version records. Perhaps this would slow
it down?
Any help on how the display item works, or things to check for would be
appreciated!

I need to create an site template. In this template's header section,
I want to insert some navigation links to external web sites. I want
to put these links into a User Controls and include that in all the
pages in my WSS site.

Display name not showing and 2 domains
Hello,
I have a server running Windows sharepoint services, this server is
located domainA. When I add a user to a site in domainA the display
name shows correctly (first name, last name). Another domain (let's
call it DomainB) is also in reach and I can add user from domainB. The
only thing is that the display name is NOT showing correctly (it shows
only the username, not first name, last name). Users from domainB can
logon correctly, only display name is not showing. I know I can change
this by hand but that is not an option because we have a lot of users
in domainB. Can anyone help me with this?

WSS v3 Installation
Hi All,
I have spent the last 3 days trying to install Windows Sharepoint services
version 3 but to no avail.
The problem occurs during the configuration procedure - once the config db
is being created (see exception below). I have also tried using an
installation of SQL in order to avoid using MSDE but to no avail.
The user I am using to access the DB has the necessary rights (DB Creator /
System Administrator and Security Administrator) in fact the following
databases are being created: SharePoint_Config and
SharePoint_AdminContent_2d45eeff-afdd-4a97-94d8-04ec0c78bed4.
Please note that this installation is on a fresh installation of Windows
2003 R2 - and I am not using a VPC installation.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

How do I backup users?
Hi,
I know how to backup the actual sites but since the users are machine
accounts how do you back them up? Or even move them to another machine. AD
for me isn't an option.

Is there a way or a web part that will allow people to log into Sharepoint,
and access and update their Active Directory account (phone number,
extension, etc)
Can someone point me in the right direction, i've done several searches here
and haven't found the solution I am looking for.

Admin/Installer left, now email to newly added users no longer wor
Greetings,
Recently we had our SharePoint admin leave who also installed it. User
alert emails are working, but when I add a new user to a site, the email
alert fails.
I went into SharePoint Administration and changed his email address to mine
hoping that would solve the issue, but it hasn't.
The error that returns is:
"The user or users have been added successfully, but there was an error in
sending the e-mail message. The server may not be set up correctly to send
e-mail. To verify that e-mail is configured correctly, contact your server
administrator. "

Password prompt tied to changing network password?
One user here on this WSS v2 installation get constant password prompts
within a library on a subsite everytime she changes her network password.
Sometimes the prompts go away; sometimes they don't.

Invalid messages were generated
Another member, Radhika, has posted this similar issue dated 5/15/2006.
Everynight, as the Sharepoint Administrator, I get several emails from the
SPS.
The subject / body of the message always read the same:

Subject: Invalid messages were generated
The SharePoint Portal Alert service did not send an e-mail message. The
service will try to resend the message

In terms of SPS Configuration, we haven't changed it since the initial
installation.
The only dynamic in this whole configuration is our staff. We have people
coming and going.
I was wondering if these scenario might be an issue.
Person creates an alert
AND Person leaves organization
AND Account is DELETED
Does this leave a ghost image of this person in the SPS Realm?

Is there anyway to put a search box on every page?
I don't have any access to the server side, so I tried to copy the html
from the search box on the home page, and then add a Form Web Part to a
web part page and use the code copied from the home page. The search
page comes up with no results when you do this though. Is there

WSS v3 Searches not working
Okay, searches are returning nothing.
The Time Job Definitions area shows "SharePoint Services Search Refresh" and
web application as "N/A". The job is running fine, but obviously not
indexing anything. The site works fine otherwise.
I get this event log error however:

Discussion Threaded view problems
Hi there,
I am struggling with setting up a discussion under Sharepoint Services.
I want to create a Web Parts Page, with two parts;
1) at the top, some information from a filtered list related to the
discussion topic
2) a set of Threaded discussions (filtered by ThreadID)
The problem I am having is that whenever I open the page in FrontPage
(Actually Share Point Designer Beta), the view changes from Threaded to
Flat. The strange thing is that I have done this sort of thing before
without the view changing.
Here are the steps I am taking;
1) In Internet Explorer, Create a new Web Parts Page
2) Add a list Web Part
3) Add the discussion as a web part (Whatever my default, it now
always comes up as Flat view)
4) Modify the Discussion Web Part to use the Threaded View
5) Open the page in FrontPage (wanting to add filters etc)
and here... it shows the Discussion in Flat view, and I can't seem
to change it.
I have also tried simplifying it, and doing the same without the extra
list.
Even if I make a copy of the AllItems list view, open it in FrontPage,
and save it without making any changes, it defaults to the Flat View.
Discussions aren't very useful without some form of Threaded View.

How to add NEW icon in XSLT view
I created an XSLT table (from the Insert-->Database-->Data View
process), using Frontpage 2003 for my WSS site. However I want to add
the NEW icon that automatically appears for recently added items to the
list.
As you know, the NEW icon is automatically part of a list/document view
but when creating a table from data view I do not know how to add this.
If someone know how to do this and can provide direction, it would be
greatly appreciated!

repeated login prompt when uploading document to sharepoint library
When attempting to upload a document to a Sharepoint library, I am able
to choose the file, but at the point of actual upload, I receive a
prompt to login. I enter valid IDs and passwords, but the login does
not happen. Instead, after three failed attempts, I receive the
message "Access denied" and "You do not have permission to perform this
action or access this resource".
I had Integrated Windows Authentication setup, but even using Basic
Authentication gives me the same problem. I have searched thoroughly
for a fix to this, but there is nothing out there. Any suggestions on
how to correct this?

I have a Forms Library and the form has a file attachment and we need
to be able to copy the file to a separate Document library so that the
document is searchable.

Filter recurring items
I want to create filtered list view that shows events occurring today.
Those events can be: a one time event or a recurring event. If I use the
"begin" field to filter the view it will work fine for the one time event,
but it will not with the recurring items, for example if the begin date for
the recurring event is 6\1\2006 and the end date 9\1\2006, and this event
occurs every Thursday. Then my view should display this event if todayâ??s date
is Thursday 6\29\2006.
Any advice how I can accomplish this will be really appreciated.
