    - Searching pages in the WIKI We have a WSS 3.0 install and have created a WIKI site. I added a number of WIKI pages. The search always comes up as No results found.     - Replacing default website on SPS 3.0 I want to replace the default website for an SPS 3.0 installation with a custom site defined template. If I go into Create a site the only option is to create one under the http://default/sites/enternewnamehere. I have done so once before, but for some reason can't seem to do so now. I am clearly going to the wrong options to perform this function. my http://default site is not in existence at the moment because yesterday i deleted it, and replaced it, then deleted again to tweak the custom definitiion, but for some reason i guess i forgot overnight... or something is really squirrley here... how can i do this?     - MOSS 2007 Workflow copy error Hi, I have a form document library which contains an Infopath 2007 web form template that a user fills out and submits to the library. There is a workflow in place that once the forms have had content approval they are to be copied to another form document library. The issue I am having is that the workflow is stopped once a document has been approved due to the following error and the form does not get copied: User ID: System Account Description: Error copying a list item Outcome: Unknown Error The System Account has been given Full Control on both the start and destination document libraries. I was wondering if there is something I am over looking here as I have used workflows to copy documents before on another site and did not come across this issue. I checked the settings on both the sites where it has worked before and the site I am encountering the error on and there are no differences. Thanks in advance!     - Can WSS3 with WID coexists on the same web server with SSEE used for other web applications? My apologies if this question has been asked before. Our installation of WSS3 is using the default Windows Internal Database. WSS3 is located on our dedicated web server for IntRAnet/Extranet purposes. This dedicated web server also hosts our corporate .com web site and FTP site. I would like to develop some ASP.net 2.0 applications and also host them on this same web server. We don't have a full blown DB like SQL, I would like to install SSEE on this same web server. Can WSS3 with WID coexists on the same web server with SSEE used for other ASP.NET 2.0 web applications?     - Unable to export a WSS 3.0 list to an Excel XP spreadsheet I'm having trouble exporting a list of any kind from WSS 3.0 into Excel XP. When I attempt to click Actions > Export to Spreadsheet within the list it gives me the error "You must have supported spreadsheet software to export a list." Are there Active X controls that are required to be able to perform this function? I believed that to be the case but the IE 6 browser isn't prompting me to download any Active X controls.     - Need to remove broken link from quick launch wss v2 I have a WSS v2 team site that has a broken link to a document library on the quick launch bar that has been deleted. Does anyone know of a way to fix this without using Frontpage 2003? We don't want the site to become unghosted from the template which as I understand is what happens when the site is modified in Frontpage. Normally when you delete a document library it will also remove it from the quick launch bar but it did not do so in this case. Any help is much appreciated.     - updating SharePoint Hello I'm working in company where I should create web form login system to SharePoint services. There should be loxin.aspx and other files that manage login in Local_Drive:\\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\12\TEMPLATE\LAYOUTS but I can't find that folder on my computer. I suspect that it is because our version of SharePoint is 2.0 (came with Windows server 2003 R2) and the files belongs to SpaePoint 3.0. So if I update to SharePoint 3.0 do I get these files? I'd like to be able to use Roles. It does not seem to work for me, or I'm not understanding what Roles are. I've created my Users and Added them to Roles. I go into the WSS site and I can see the User Names in search, though I cannot see any of the roles that I entered.     - WSS v3 stsadm lock/unlock sites WSS v3 not MOSS. The SQL DBs are being backed up using Symantec BE SQL Agent, but I have also been backing up all sites individually using stsadm (we don't have many sites and the sites are not large). I just read sites should first be locked before backing up using stsadm and then unlocked after, and about the new getsitelock and setsitelock command parameters for WSS v3. Which of course I have not been doing, oops. So, is this what batch file should look like?: stsadm.exe -o setsitelock -url <url of site> -lock noaccess stsadm.exe -o backup -url <url of site> -filename <file> -overwrite stsadm.exe -o setsitelock -url <url of site> -lock none for each site backed up? And when/why would I use getsitelock in batch file? Is that for returning the current lock condition of site? e.g. If getsitelock = none then setsitelock to noaccess ?     - Restore a Full Backup with Differentials Hello, Does anyone know how to restore a backup that has differentials that were backup up during the week? We are using WSS 3.0 & SQL 2005. We are trying to determine our plans for backups. We know you can use the STSADM tool to backup the whole farm and also backup using the differential switch.     - unable to upload files larger than 30 mb Hi, We are using WSS 3.0 and are unable to upload files larger than 30 mb. We get a non descriptive error message or a time out message when we upload a file 30 mb or greater both in upload file window or using the explorer mode. When we use the upload multiple documents window we get an error prompting that the error has occurred while stsupld.dll was running. We can upload smaller files using all the three upload methods but cannot upload large files. I have seen a couple blogs that talk about this issue but did not see a resolution for this.     - custom web service for sharepoint HELP! I'm using the microsoft "Walkthrough: Creating a Custom Web Service" white paper to test out this scenario and I have come across a snag. When I try and run disco.exe to create the .disco and .wsdl files I get the error: Could not load the file or assembly 'SharepointCustomLibrary, Version 1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=986c3ed4d8aaa298 or one of its dependencies. the system cannot find the file specified. I run disco.exe locally and the site is hosted on the sharepoint server. The server displays the Microsoft .net framework 1.1 configuration admin tool but not the 2.0 config tool. When I try to add my assembly to the GAC through the 1.1 admin tool it says it can't because it does not have a strong name (even though it really does). I can add it however if I just drop it into the %windows%\assembly directory. Does anyone know what the problem might be here? Thanks.     - Usage analysis processing - WSS 3.0 in the help for Usage Analysis processing, it states : "In the Number of log files to create box, type a value for the number of log files to keep per Web application. When that number of log files are reached, no more files are created until some are deleted." Does this mean I have to manually delete the log files (or automate with a scheduled task) or else logs won't be gathered? I find that hard to believe, but I don't know. I'm also disappointed to read that stats are only kept for 3 months! I guess it's a space issue, but that doesn't sound like that much to me.     - IE6 Crashes When Opening List/Library in WSS3 We have a few users that are seeing this problem where IE crashes when they try to access a list or library in a WSS 3 site. It doesn't seem to happen when navigating from site to site or within a list or library - only when trying to initially access a list or library in a site. To further compound things, it doesn't happen all the time - for example - the user may see the problem at 10am, but then an hour later no problem at all (there doesn't seem to be a discernible pattern - ie only in the afternoon).     - Apply new site definition/template? Hi all, I have just migrated a Share Point 2001 site to WSS 2.0. I have noticed it appears to have adopted a default site definition/template, which isn't in line with the look and feel of the rest of our WSS 2.0 environment.     - Remove ermission Inheritance (again) This is already documented i n a previous thread, however, uinless you're actually searching for them, no one will see the question. I have a problem using V3. I created 3 sites: Main site - Should be no access [http://servername/default.aspx] Subsite1 - Unique (accidentally kept "inherit permissions from parent") [http://servername/subsite1/default.aspx] Subsite2 - Unique (accidentally kept "inherit permissions from parent") [http://servername/subsite2/default.aspx] I thought that, later, one would be able to change permission inheritance as in V2 but it is not available anywhere, and yes I know where it should be and have seen it and used it many times in V2. There is no "Manage Permission Inheritance"I can see in V3. I remove a person from the main and he has no access to the main or subsites. I remove him completely and no access anywhere. Good. (in fact the option is "Delete Users from site Collection). I add him in a sub site and he has access to subsite, and main site. Not Good. So, I figured out the "Team Site Members" group permissions (for entire collection) vs "Contributor Group" site specific permissions was part of my problem (albeit not the most intuitive thing). The Sharepoint site is in FullTrust mode unfortunately... However, also read another post that mentioned that the error can also be caused by the DLL's (WssDAl's) are compiled in a previous version. Well, this seems more of the issue as the DLL's are compiled for .Net 1.1 and the Sharepoint Site is running on .Net 2.0. I have tried to recompile the source (this comes with the WssDal package) yet, there seems to be some missing config files or other files and the conversion/compile fails. So my questions are: 1) Is there anyway to get the earlier compiled DLL's to be "fully trusted" or 2) Has anyone got a version of WssDal for .NET 2 or 3) Has anyone got an alternative to WssDal (apart from MS's version) or 4) Anyone have any other ideas. For example Parent 1 | ----------------- | | Child 1 Child 2 Each of the sites are a subsite from Parent 1. When searching (default settings) from Parent 1 you can get results of everything below, when searching Child1 you only get results from Child1 and any subsites below.     - Errors in upgrade.log when upgrading from WSS 2.0 to WSS 3.0 I am doing a test upgrade from WSS 2.0 to WSS 3.0 and have run into a problem. I ran prescan on my WSS 2.0 server, and it finished with the line: 05/03/2007 11:27:52 Scan finished without failure. I have then performed the database migration version of the upgrade. I finally get to the addcontentdb bit of it, and the upgrade log has got 449 errors, all of which seem to be the same and none of which I can make sense of.     - ItemAdded and Race Conditions Hi, I'm having a very specific problem that I can't seem to find a legitimate solution for. I created an ItemAdded override for a document list ( MOSS 2007 ). The purpose of this override is to create a discussion list after a document is added, provide the proper permissions, then update the recently added listitem with a link to the new discussion. This works well some of the time. Here's what happens: When the event triggers, my code fires and does what it is supposed to do, sometimes the edit page comes up (after uploading a new document) with my recently added data (discussion list link and title), other times it does not. If my event override completed before the edit page loaded, thus finding that data, then all is well. If, however, the page loaded before my event finished updating the listitem (SPListItem.Update()), then once I save the edit page, I get an error that my Item has been modified by my user. I assume this is because something in the edit page had some integrity check (viewstate or something) that had changed since the new page load. I tried faking it out by creating a workflow that kicks off instead of my list update, but it's essentially doing the same thing. All my other code works fine, if I just comment out the page where I update my listitem with these string values (discussion list url) then it works, but I don't get the data I need in my list.     - Upgrade Woes.... How to Edit Sites that are not WSS3 Web Apps? So I've focused on migrating our sharepoint sites from WSS2 to WSS3. Well now that those are all botched up, I though I would work on the other Webs that are on the server. We use a Combo of Front Page 2003 and VisualStudio 2005. We have Sharepoint Designer 2007 for what its worth. So I've moved the Content to the new Web Server with WSS 3 installed and up and running (Well for new WSS Sites) The Sites work great, byt we cant access them with the Tools the way we did before via http://site.host.header I'm sure its because there is no FPSE installed. If I do not want to install FPSE as it forces our nice 64bit machine to run in 32bit mode. What is the best way to Access the Sites to allow editing via Front Page, Sharepoint Designer or Visual Studio? If I use the stsadm -o extendvs to extend one of the Webs that I already have content for. The Extend comes up with Operation Successful. Sharepoint Designer can connect to http://site.host.header , though there is no content. I can connect to the site via \\server\share\web\site What is the preferred method to Edit Sites?     - "Export to Spreadsheet" generates server error I have a new install of SharePoint Services 2.0 SP2 on a Windows Server 2003 SP1 system. On a brand new virtual server, I go to Shared Documents and then click on the 'Export to Spreadsheet' link. The result is an .IQY file that Excell then opens. When doing so, the error "Cannot connect to the server at this time. Changes to your data cannot be saved" occurs. I can see in the web logs that Excell is attmpting to issue an HTML POST to the page /_vti_bin/lists.asmx, which is generating an HTTP 500 error code. Also, if I save the .IQY file and edit it to remove all but the first 6 lines, the query then runs sucessfully and no HTML POST is generated in the IIS log file. I am at a complete loss as to what is causing this issue, or what to do to fix it, and no amount of Internet searching has been of help. Can anyone here offer any advice? Thanks. I have a question, the gradual installation method for wss 3.0 will require a sql db account with Database Creator and Security Administrator roles to install, is this a "one time use" installation account or will it be one that is continually used from now on?     - ItemAdded Event does not appear to be hit when list recieves email I have a list set up to receive email, and an ItemAdded Event handler installed. When the email is received it does not appear to be hitting the ItemAdded Event. If I upload a document to the same list the ItemAdded Event is hit. Has anyone seen this or have any ideas? My scenario.

Using WSS 3.0, I adjusted the toolbar type and border of list web
parts on the homepage. I also defined some custom views as the
default views for list web parts on the homepage. I saved the site as
an .stp. I created a new site based off of my .stp. The homepage of
my newly created site reverts back to the the full toolbar for my web
parts and it doesn't display my default views for the web parts that I
specified in originally configured site.

I know that in WSS 2.0, I never had any issues configuring and keeping
the configuations when creating sites based off of a backed up .stp
files. Does this not work in 3.0?

I also tried to define a toolbar type and view for the list web parts
on the homepage using my custom List Features but could not find a way
to do this using Features, onet, or default.aspx either.

Any suggestions?

This is unfortunately known behaviour for .stps in WSS 3.0. Certainly losing
the Views you have specified has already been reported a couple of times
here.
