    - Usage analysis processing - WSS 3.0 in the help for Usage Analysis processing, it states : "In the Number of log files to create box, type a value for the number of log files to keep per Web application. When that number of log files are reached, no more files are created until some are deleted." Does this mean I have to manually delete the log files (or automate with a scheduled task) or else logs won't be gathered? I find that hard to believe, but I don't know. I'm also disappointed to read that stats are only kept for 3 months! I guess it's a space issue, but that doesn't sound like that much to me.     - IE6 Crashes When Opening List/Library in WSS3 We have a few users that are seeing this problem where IE crashes when they try to access a list or library in a WSS 3 site. It doesn't seem to happen when navigating from site to site or within a list or library - only when trying to initially access a list or library in a site. To further compound things, it doesn't happen all the time - for example - the user may see the problem at 10am, but then an hour later no problem at all (there doesn't seem to be a discernible pattern - ie only in the afternoon).     - Apply new site definition/template? Hi all, I have just migrated a Share Point 2001 site to WSS 2.0. I have noticed it appears to have adopted a default site definition/template, which isn't in line with the look and feel of the rest of our WSS 2.0 environment. If possible i would like to apply an alternative (existing) site definition/template to this migrated site to bring it inline with our current look and feel. Can i do this? How do i go about it?     - Remove ermission Inheritance (again) This is already documented i n a previous thread, however, uinless you're actually searching for them, no one will see the question. I have a problem using V3. I created 3 sites: Main site - Should be no access [http://servername/default.aspx] Subsite1 - Unique (accidentally kept "inherit permissions from parent") [http://servername/subsite1/default.aspx] Subsite2 - Unique (accidentally kept "inherit permissions from parent") [http://servername/subsite2/default.aspx] I thought that, later, one would be able to change permission inheritance as in V2 but it is not available anywhere, and yes I know where it should be and have seen it and used it many times in V2. There is no "Manage Permission Inheritance"I can see in V3. I remove a person from the main and he has no access to the main or subsites. I remove him completely and no access anywhere. Good. (in fact the option is "Delete Users from site Collection). I add him in a sub site and he has access to subsite, and main site. Not Good. So, I figured out the "Team Site Members" group permissions (for entire collection) vs "Contributor Group" site specific permissions was part of my problem (albeit not the most intuitive thing). The Sharepoint site is in FullTrust mode unfortunately... However, also read another post that mentioned that the error can also be caused by the DLL's (WssDAl's) are compiled in a previous version. Well, this seems more of the issue as the DLL's are compiled for .Net 1.1 and the Sharepoint Site is running on .Net 2.0. I have tried to recompile the source (this comes with the WssDal package) yet, there seems to be some missing config files or other files and the conversion/compile fails. So my questions are: 1) Is there anyway to get the earlier compiled DLL's to be "fully trusted" or 2) Has anyone got a version of WssDal for .NET 2 or 3) Has anyone got an alternative to WssDal (apart from MS's version) or 4) Anyone have any other ideas. I'm trying to modify the Room and Equipment Reservation - Custom template from Microsoft so I can set up a reservation system for our vehicles. (Every warm season we get a bunch of grad students in to help with the research seaason; always a pain allocating vehicles. I'm hoping WSS will help us out.) My problem is I can't quite get everything modified for what I want. Would someone give me some hints? What I want: from the main page, they should see a list of vehicles (all), a list of available vehicle (those not reserved) [this item is not critical, so I can do without it, if need be], and a list of reserved vehicles that tells us who has it, and the start & end times they'll have it.     - [WSS 3] - Searching parent and all children Hi, Is it possilble with just WSS3 to set the search scope to search parent sites and all child sites within. For example Parent 1 | ----------------- | | Child 1 Child 2 Each of the sites are a subsite from Parent 1. When searching (default settings) from Parent 1 you can get results of everything below, when searching Child1 you only get results from Child1 and any subsites below.     - Errors in upgrade.log when upgrading from WSS 2.0 to WSS 3.0 I am doing a test upgrade from WSS 2.0 to WSS 3.0 and have run into a problem. I ran prescan on my WSS 2.0 server, and it finished with the line: 05/03/2007 11:27:52 Scan finished without failure. I have then performed the database migration version of the upgrade. I finally get to the addcontentdb bit of it, and the upgrade log has got 449 errors, all of which seem to be the same and none of which I can make sense of. I can post the whole file if anyone wants it, but the line in question is: [SPWebTemplateSequence] [ERROR] [5/9/2007 9:58:20 AM]: Template STS#0: SPSite Id=205e375a-c478-478f-99fe-e9005f1c1bf6 could not be accessed due to exception.     - ItemAdded and Race Conditions Hi, I'm having a very specific problem that I can't seem to find a legitimate solution for. I created an ItemAdded override for a document list ( MOSS 2007 ). The purpose of this override is to create a discussion list after a document is added, provide the proper permissions, then update the recently added listitem with a link to the new discussion. This works well some of the time. Here's what happens: When the event triggers, my code fires and does what it is supposed to do, sometimes the edit page comes up (after uploading a new document) with my recently added data (discussion list link and title), other times it does not. If my event override completed before the edit page loaded, thus finding that data, then all is well. If, however, the page loaded before my event finished updating the listitem (SPListItem.Update()), then once I save the edit page, I get an error that my Item has been modified by my user. I assume this is because something in the edit page had some integrity check (viewstate or something) that had changed since the new page load. I tried faking it out by creating a workflow that kicks off instead of my list update, but it's essentially doing the same thing. All my other code works fine, if I just comment out the page where I update my listitem with these string values (discussion list url) then it works, but I don't get the data I need in my list. The other tracks the shipping of individual items(List2).     - Upgrade Woes.... How to Edit Sites that are not WSS3 Web Apps? So I've focused on migrating our sharepoint sites from WSS2 to WSS3. Well now that those are all botched up, I though I would work on the other Webs that are on the server. We use a Combo of Front Page 2003 and VisualStudio 2005. We have Sharepoint Designer 2007 for what its worth. So I've moved the Content to the new Web Server with WSS 3 installed and up and running (Well for new WSS Sites) The Sites work great, byt we cant access them with the Tools the way we did before via http://site.host.header I'm sure its because there is no FPSE installed. If I do not want to install FPSE as it forces our nice 64bit machine to run in 32bit mode. What is the best way to Access the Sites to allow editing via Front Page, Sharepoint Designer or Visual Studio? If I use the stsadm -o extendvs to extend one of the Webs that I already have content for. The Extend comes up with Operation Successful. Sharepoint Designer can connect to http://site.host.header , though there is no content. I can connect to the site via \\server\share\web\site What is the preferred method to Edit Sites?     - "Export to Spreadsheet" generates server error I have a new install of SharePoint Services 2.0 SP2 on a Windows Server 2003 SP1 system. On a brand new virtual server, I go to Shared Documents and then click on the 'Export to Spreadsheet' link. The result is an .IQY file that Excell then opens. When doing so, the error "Cannot connect to the server at this time. Changes to your data cannot be saved" occurs. I can see in the web logs that Excell is attmpting to issue an HTML POST to the page /_vti_bin/lists.asmx, which is generating an HTTP 500 error code. Also, if I save the .IQY file and edit it to remove all but the first 6 lines, the query then runs sucessfully and no HTML POST is generated in the IIS log file. I am at a complete loss as to what is causing this issue, or what to do to fix it, and no amount of Internet searching has been of help. Can anyone here offer any advice? Thanks.     - ItemAdded Event does not appear to be hit when list recieves email I have a list set up to receive email, and an ItemAdded Event handler installed. When the email is received it does not appear to be hitting the ItemAdded Event. If I upload a document to the same list the ItemAdded Event is hit. Has anyone seen this or have any ideas? At the root of this URL, we have developed a website in .NET 2.0, and want to have WSS 3.0 run under a subdirectory.     - Aggregate data in STS 2.0 I am trying to calculate some aggregate information in a custom list. Simple Example: I have a field named "value" and want to create another field named "average value" that will show the average of all information in the field. In MS Excel, it would be =AVERAGE(A) where A is the column that contains the data elements of the sample. My Challenge I have a field named "value" and want to create another field named "probability" that shows the probability of a new data element having equal or less value than the current data element. In MS Excel, it would be =NORMDIST(A5,AVERAGE(A:A),STDEV(A:A),1) where A is the column that contains the data elements of the sample and A5 contains the data element of interest.     - Permissions Inherited Despite Being Set Otherwise I have WSS 3.0 installed on Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition. On the whole, it works beautifully. I have two issued related to permissions though. Here are my steps to reproduce. They must all be done on the same client machine. 1. I created a Document Library, and set the permissions to not inherit. I assigned Group1 full control. 2. I uploaded Document1.doc, and used Manage Permissions to remove inheritance and assign specific permissions (Group1 = Full, user1 = read). 3. I uploaded Document2.doc, and used Manage Permissions to remove inheritance. Now it has permissions set for Group1 = full and User1 = read. How did that happen? Surely it should have inherited from the main library if anything, not the last uploaded file. Anyway, I can add permissions for user2 = read, and REMOVE permissions for user1. 4. I uploaded Document3.doc. Now BOTH previous users have read permission to this document! 5. I went into the Document Library settings, and checked the permissions... There are too many people with read rights. I edit the permissions on the library to remove the users, checked the permissions for document1.doc, document2.doc and document3.doc and ALL of them have lost their permission entries for the users, despite not inheriting permissions. So that's really 2 questions. a) Why does each new document inherit permissions from EVERY PREVIOUS user/group that has been assigned permissions in that library, on that computer? b) Why did resetting the permissions on the document library remove the user permissions on each document within it, despite the documents not inheriting permission?     - SIP Address in the Sharepoint database Since we started adding users to sharepoint from AD we've settled on a SIP address format for Live Communications Server, and have updated all of the users in LCS to use the new format. Unfortunately the bulk of the users in Sharepoint were added before we settled on the new scheme, so in the SP database most of them have the old SIP Address format (equivalent to email address). New users we add work fine because they have the correct SIP address and their presense information shows up perfectly. For older users, their presence information shows up when I change their SIP address in SP to match the new schema in their user properties. I'd like to change the sip addresses in a bulk fashion in SQL instead of manually updating each individual one at a time, but I haven't been able to locate the field that holds that data.     - WSS 2.0 and 3.0 on same server? Can I keep my WSS 2.0 site up and running alongside my WSS 3.0 site until I get the data I want moved over and then blow away the 2.0 site?     - Limiting number of rows returned in DataView preview in SharePoint Designer 2007 Is there a way to default the number of rows returned in DataView lists (in design mode - not when page is execuring) in SharePoint Desginer to specific number?     - smigrate issue Hi, We have a WSS 2.0 installation with SQL Server 2005. I am using smigrate to migrate a site. However, I am always getting a â??The server connection timed out â?? error. Is there a limit on the size of a site I can import using smigrate? The site I am trying to migrate is quite huge (about 1.5GB). I have tried to import a smaller site and it did not cause me any issues.     - WSS 3.0 Site Usage Reports Hello all, I finally found out how to get some more detailed reports from my WSS 3.0 sites using SharePoint Designer. Not that it was difficult, just needed to know where to look. Now that I have done that I want to try and take it to the next step. I would like the site owners, maybe some people in management, etc. to be able to see these reports as well. They would not have SharePoint Designer and I am not interested in going to every site once a month to run the report and export it for them. I would like to be able to setup a web page that I could send them to would allow them to maybe pick a site from a list and be dynamic and get the data and display it for them. This page could either be a stand alone site or maybe even a webpart in WSS 3.0. Either way I need a better alternative to what is there. Any thoughts, suggestions, or examples?     - Slow backup Hi, We installed Sharepoint Services 4 weeks ago I run my backups manually from the Central Admin console. My backups were taking between 2 and 3 hours. I try with stsadm still so long. The jobs stick on backup up WSS_Search 50%. The first 10 out of 11 items on the list are done in seconds. The progress for WSS_Search sits in "Preparing Backup" for about 2 hours and then takes 30 to 60 minutes to back up Search. I read that others had luck with changing uninstalling the DST hotfix I try to do it and no luck, it is even worse cause no it is stuck for days (waited 4 days before ending it manually) I try to reinstall the hotfix, and still no luck backup are still stuck for hours. I am trying to extend the Service Request list in the IT Team Workspace
application template. I added a new column to the list definition. It
appears in the list view but it does not appear in the New or Edit form
view. Is there a way to make it appear in these views?
