Hi all,
I have installed WSS 2 on my virtual server with SQL Server 2005 as
default database. Every thing went fine and I chose the windows
authentication while selecting the database and application pool etc.
For the application pool, I chose an existing application pool which is
StsAdminAppPool(NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE).

I have successfully made the configuration and one default content
database.
But when I wanted to see my first default web site it asks me for the
username and password which I never set for anything. I do have a
username for my virtual machine but I never set a password for that. It
asks for a username and password to connect to virtual server so that I
can view the default site. I do have the administrator rights for every
thing. I don't know which password and username it is asking for?

Can anyone suggests me what should I do now?

As far as I think the problem is that I should have chosen
CentralAdminAppPool instead of StsAdminAppPool. Does anyone know how I
change that now if that's the problem?

Thanks

I tried to chnage the application pool but still no luck. so it's not
related to application pool on which the service is running (I guess)

I havn't set any password even for my virtual machine administrator
login, I don't know which password is it asking to open the web sites
that are on my virtual server.

Any ideas will be appreciated.

Thanks

When you install WSS the only Name / Password you have available is the
Administrator (and it's password) of the Server on which you have installed
WSS.

In this case of the Server that you are running within your VM system.

So use that (and one of your first actions should be to assign some more
users rights to the WSS site(s) including one with Admin rights.

But when I installed WSS on windows server 2003, I didn't set any
password, I just kept the field empty. I login to my virtual machine
just with the username Administrator and no password is attached with
that.

and Administrator and a blank password doesn't work for accessing the WSS
site on the same server ?

Apparently, it's not possible for WSS sites to appear without logging
in with a password (if u have chosen windows authentication). The
username Administer SHOULD have a password and if u chose not to set
any password for administrator, it won't work for WSS sites.
I set a password and tried again, I solved the problem.
