This pass through authentication only works along with Windows XP credential
manager feature.
When you put the domain\username for username, and the user's password in
the prompt - there's a checkbox that allows you to SAVE this info. This
info is stored, BUT only works with the site's URL in your Internet
Explorer's TRUSTED SITES. It's a combination of OS and settings - not just
one thing.
